Lexien lonkka- ja kyynärlausunto saapuivat / Kävimme silmätarkissa

Niin siinä kävi, että lonkka- ja kyynärtulokset tulivat viimein. Uskomatonta, mutta totta lonkat olivat A/A ja kyynärpäät 0/0. Joten täydellistä!!!

Finally we got our results from hip and elbow rays from Kennelclub. Amazing but true - hips were A/A as excellent and elbows 0/0 as superb! Something so amazing!!!

Menimme eilen käymään silmätarkastuksessa. Lääkärinä toimi Sari Jalomäki - hyvin asiantunteva nainen ja selosti mukavasti kaiken, mitä teki. Ei jäänyt epäselväksi itseasiassa mikään. Tuloksena oli hyvät silmät, mutta oikeassa silmässä oli kaksi hyvin hentoa lisäripseä. Ei siis CEA:ta eikä vastaavaa, mutta lievä distichiasis eli ylimääräisiä ripsiä. Lääkäri totesi lopuksi, että jopa 95 & shelteistä sellaisia on tai on ollut jossain vaiheessa elämäänsä.

Yesterday we went to an eye examination. Our doctor was Sari Jalomäki - a very knowledgeable woman and explained all what she did while she examined Lexies eyes. Nothing remained unclear. The result was that Lexie got good eyes, but in the right eye there were two very delicate eyelashes. We did not have CEA or anything like it, but we had that mild distichiasis - extra eyelashes. In the end she said that almost 95 % of all shelties has those or has had those some point of their life.

Sattuu ja tapahtuu sanotaan...

Niin se vain on, että juoksuisen nartun tuoksu on huumaava. Tällä viikolla on tapahtunut ihan ihmeellisiä juttuja, jotka pitää tietysti tänne päivittää. Osa tapahtui jo ennen edellistä päivitystä, mutta yöllä yhden aikaan ne eivät tulleet kummasti mieleen. Nyt sitten tarinoin siitä edestä.

When bitch is in heat, the scent is intoxicating. On this week has happened pretty amazing stuff, of course, that need to be told here as an upgrade. All of these has already occurred before the previous update, but at night at one o'clock, they did not come to mind - strange. But now I will tell those to you.

Jos metsään haluat mennä nyt... - If you want to go to forest now...

Viime maanantaina olin tyttöjen kanssa päivälenkillä. Maanantait ja tiistait ovat minulla opetuksettomia päiviä (työharjoittelujen kulta-aikaa amispuolella keskitalvi). Tytöt kulkivat hihnassa suurimman osan ajasta, mutta sitten ajattelin, että koska olimme päässeet Haapamaan metsään soiden luo, että siellähän ei ketään olisi nyt varsinkaan. Kuuntelin kovasti koko ajan, että liikkuuko ketään. Lunta satoi hiljalleen taivaalta maahan ja kaikkialla oli hiljaista. Päästin sitten tytöt leikkimään siihen kentälle hetkeksi, että saavat purkaa tarmoaan. (VIRHE!)

Last Monday I was on a day jog with the girls. Monday and Tuesday are my free days (In mid-winter our students do their Internship's). The girls walked on a leash most of the time, but then I thought that since we had reached to those Haapamaa's forest swamps, that there would not be anyone at this time. I listened very hard all the time, so that there wouldn't be no one there. Snow fell gently from the sky and everywhere was quiet. Then I let the girls play on that little opening for a moment that they can extract all the energy. (BIG MISTAKE!)

Ei mene kauaakaan, kun kauhea töminä kuuluu selkäni takaa ja kaksi karhukoiraa juoksee ohitseni. Minä kauhealla juoksulla menen Lexien luo ja tempaan Lexien koirien keskeltä syliin. Viivi vaistomaisesti lähti kauemmas karkuun irtokoiria, mutta sitten ne karhukoirat hoksasivat hänet. Ne lähtevät Viivin päälle. Huudan Viiville, että tänne nyt ja Viivi tulee turvaan. Tempaan Viivinkin kainaloon.

It does not take long at all, when I hear a terrible pounding behind my back, and two bear dogs run past me. I run after them and straight toward to Lexie and sweep her up to my lap away from the dogs. Viivi instinctively went farther away from those loose hounds, but then they spotted her. They went after Viivi. I shout at Viivi to come here and she came to me to be safe. I sweep Viivi to my arms too.

Siinä seison sitten molemmat koirat kainalossani keskellä metsää. Karhukoirat kiertävät minua kuin kissat kuumaa puuroa. Huusin koirille, että tulkaakin lähelle ja potkasen. Olivat nimittäin koko ajan kuono kiinni jommassa kummassa koirassa. Potkaisin toiseen päin ja se koira meni kauemmaksi, mutta toinen oli koko ajan siinä lähellä. Se koirista ei ilmeisesti tykännyt, että katsoin sitä silmiin ja se alkoi murisemaan ja haukkumaan minulle. Tässä vaiheessa pelko alkoi hiljalleen hiipimään minuun, koska koirien omistajaa ei vieläkään näkynyt mailla halmeilla. Koirat kiertävät ja haukkuvat minulle keskellä pimenevää metsää. Huudan isoon ääneen: "Nyt p*** se omistaja saisi tulla v*** s*** paikalle ja vähän äkkiä." Kohta metsästä kuuluu miehen kova älinä ja käskytys koirille. Huudan ja kiroan omistajan siitä, että ei osaa pitää silmällä koiriaan. Lähden toiseen suuntaan tyttöjen kanssa onnellisena, että mitään ei sattunut. Sydän tykytti melkein kotiovelle asti.

So there I stand both dogs under my arm in the middle of the forest. Bear Dogs are orbiting me like cats of a hot oatmeal. I shouted to those dogs that come closer and I will kick. They both were on my skin with their muzzle at all the time. I kicked towards the other one and it went further away from me, but the other one was closer. He did not apparently liked that, I looked into his eyes, so it began to bark and growl at me. At this point, the fear began to slowly sneak up on me, because the dogs owner was still nowhere to be seen. Dogs were barking and orbiting me in the middle of darkening forest. I then shouted with a big voice: "Now the son of a * owner of these f*** s*** dogs should come here and with a hurry." Soon I'll hear a angry voice of a man and he starts to command his dogs. I shout and curse the owner of that he does not know how to keep an eye on his dogs. I left the other way with the girls as happy as hell that nothing happened. My heart pounded almost up to our front door.

Ihmeellinen lätäkkö pihalla - Strange puddle on the yard

Samana päivänä aamusta olin työhuoneessa lukemassa päivän lehtiä netistä ja juomassa aamukahviani. Olin juuri syöttänyt koirat ja pian ne halusivat pihalle. Menin päästämään neidit tosiaan pihalle tarpeilleen. Katsoin pihalle ja keskelle pihaa oli ilmestynyt iso keltainen läikkä. Koska lunta satoi koko ajan lisää ja lisää, ajattelin, että se on tyttöjen vanha lätäkkö. Maa on ollut jäässä, eikä se ime mitään. Viivi ja Lexie menevät ulos.

On the same day in the morning to I was in our study and I was reading the daily newspapers on the internet and drinking morning coffee. I had just given food to girls and soon they wanted to go to the yard. I went to let them out. I looked at the middle of our yard and noticed a large pool of something yellow. As the snow fell from the sky more and more, I thought, that it is our girls old puddle. The ground is so frozen so it won't absorb anything. Viivi and Lexie go out.

Sitten alkaakin se näytös. Viivi aloittaa kauhea murisemisen lätäkölle. Viivin niskakarvat nousevat pystyyn ja se kyyristyy kuin hyökkäysasentoon mennyt koira. Hampaitakin näytellään. Viivi kiertää koko ajan sitä lätäkköä ja rähisee sille. En ole koskaan nähnyt Viiviä sellaisena. Ilmeisesti meidän pihalle oli päässyt joku uroskoira merkkaamaan reviirin ohilenkillään.

Then starts the show. Viivi starts a terrible growling at the puddle. Viivi hackles rise up and she took an attack position. She even showed her teethes. Viivi went around the puddle growling and barking. Apparently some male dog had gotten in the yard and done his marking there.

 

Joulu on taas, joulu on taas... :D

Niin se vain syksy vilahti ohitse. Jotenkin koko syksy on tullut talsittua muissa maisemissa kuin tässä koiramaailmassa. Joskus elämässä tulee eteen yllättäen asioita, jotka vievät kaiken huomion muusta. Onneksi on kuitenkin koirat olemassa, joiden kanssa pahatkin asiat saa helposti pois mielestä pienillä metsäpatikoinneilla. Siihen liittyen laitankin seuraavan tekstin alle:

Autumn went by with speed. Somehow, the whole autumn I have been living in other world than in this world. Sometimes in life there comes situations so suddenly out of nowhere in front of you, that you don't have enough energy to anything else. Fortunately, there are dogs with me, with whom all the bad things can easily be taken out of view by a small forest hike. Because of them, I put the following text below:

"Aina silloin tällöin minulle sanotaan: "Piristyisit, sehän on vain koira" tai "Tuo on aika paljon rahaa vain koiraan." He eivät ymmärrä kuljettua matkaa, kulutettua aikaa, eivätkä kuluja, jotka liittyvät "vain koiraan". Jotkut ylpeimmistä hetkistäni liittyvät "vain koiraan". Jotkin surullisimmista hetkistäni ovat johtuneet "vain koirasta", ja noina pimeyden päivinä "vain koiran" lempeä kosketus antoi minulle lohtua ja syyn voittaa tuo päivä. Some of the saddest moments have been caused by "just a dog", and during those dark days, "just a dogs" gentle touch has given me comfort and reason to win that day. If you think that it's "just a dog", surely you'll understand the phrases such as "just a friend", "just a sunrise" or "just a promise."

"Vain koira" tuo elämääni sen aidoimman ystävyyden, luottamuksen ja puhtaan pidättelemättömän riemun. "Vain koira" tuo esiin myötäelämisen ja kärsivällisyyden, jotka tekevät minusta paremman ihmisen. "Vain koiran" vuoksi nousen aikaisin aamulla, teen pitkiä kävelylenkkejä ja katson odotuksella tulevaisuuteen. "Just a dog" brings into my life the most authentic friendship, trust and pure incontinent joy. "Just a dog" brings out compassion and patience, that make me a better human. For "just a dog" I get up early in the morning, do long walks and look to my future with anticipation. So for me, and people alike, it's not "just a dog", but the embodiment of the hopes and dreams for the future, the dearest memories of the past, and the pure joy of this moment.

"Vain koira" tuo minusta esiin sen, mikä on hyvää ja ohjaa ajatukseni pois itsestäni ja päivän huolista. Toivon, että jonakin päivänä he voivat ymmärtää, ettei se ole "vain koira", vaan se asia, joka antaa minulle inhimmillisyyden ja erottaa minut "vain miehestä tai naisesta". "Just a dog" brings out of me that, what is good and directs my thoughts away from myself and the concerns of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that it is not "just a dog", but the thing that gives me humanity and differs me from "just a man or a woman." The next time you'll hear the phrase "just a dog", smile - because they "just do not understand."

Viivi ja Lexie ovat antaneet paljon voimia tänä syksynä. Harva näkee kuoren alle, mutta nämä tytöt sen tekevät tietämättään ja ovat silloin läsnä, kun on paha olla. / Viivi and Lexie has given me a lot of strength this fall. Few people can see beneath the surface, but these girls are doing it unknowingly, and are present when I feel bad.

Lexie alias "Minä-Tykkään-Jytystää-Kaikkea" - Lexie aka I-Like-To-Eat-Everything

Valitettavasti kaikki aika ei ole aina juhlaa ja sen olemme Petrin kanssa huomanneet tänä syksynä. Koska ajatukset ovat olleet muualla, eivät koiratkaan mielestään ole saaneet tarpeeksi huomiota. Tästä syystä Lexie aloittikin syksyn aikana eroahdituksen purkamisen huonekaluihin ts. kaikkeen syötävään. Meidän sohva on nakerrettu yhdestä nurkasta puhki, sängyn reunoja on järsitty, sukkia on syöty, eteisen kaappia on järsitty nurkasta ja alalevystä, lehtikorin jalat on purtu sekä minun ihanat nahkasaappaat ja niiden vetoketju joutui kerran jyrsinnän kohteeksi. Onneksi olemme saaneet homman kuntoon sillä, että emme enää kotiintullessa tervehtineet tyttöjä niin innokkaasti kuin aina, vaan vähensimme sitä, joten eroahdistuskin on vähentynyt ja lähes poissa. JEEE!!!

Unfortunately, not all the time in life ain't a nice vacation and we have noticed that with Petri this autumn. Because our thoughts have been elsewhere, dogs have been thinking that they don't receive enough attention. Because of this, Lexie started reacting to this by initiating a separation anxiety to all furniture, ie, everything edible. Our sofa has been eaten from one corner, the edges of our bed has been chewed, socks have been eaten, the hall lockers have been bitten from corner and bottom plate, our newspaper stand legs have been chewed, and my lovely leather boots and its zipper were one day raped by little doggies teeths. Fortunately, we have taken the situation under control with one little move - we no longer come home and overeagerly greet the girls, so the separation anxiety has been reduced and it's almost gone. JEEE!

Kävimme Lexien kanssa marraskuun lopulla viimein lonkka-polvi-kyynärpääkuvissa Oulun Eläinklinikalla, Kaakkurissa. Tuloksena oli hyvä kokonaisuus, mutta oikeassa lonkassa oli pieni muutos. Odottelemme Kennelliiton vastausta asiaan. Lääkärimme Ilkka Lakovaara ei osannut tarkalleen sanoa, mikä lonkassa oli. Uskomme kuitenkin hänen kanssaan, että Kennelliitossa on sen verran ammattitaitoa, että he osaavat varmasti jotain suuntaa kuvasta antaa.

Finally I went with Lexie to take her hip-knee-elbow examination at Oulun Eläinklinikka. Result was a fine combination, but there were some changes on right hip. We are waiting for Kennelliitto to respond to those pictures soon. Our doctor Ilkka Lakovaara didn't know what to say about the hip. With him we think that Kennelliitto might have some professionals, who know about those things and can give us some information about them.

Kasvattajia - meistä? - Breeders - Of us?

Niinhän siinä kävi - meistä Petrin kanssa tulee kasvattajia. Kävimme Raahessa kasvattajakurssilla ja pääsimme kurssikokeen lävitse. Nyt saamme siis perustaa kennelin. Siinä huumassa mietimme sitten nimeäkin ja lopulta saimme lähetettyä Shetlanninlammaskoirat ry:n kokoukseen puoltoanuspyynnön nimellemme ja kenneltoiveellemme. Kokouksessa hakemustamme puollettiin yksimielisesti, joten nyt odottelemme Kennelliiton vastausta hakemukseemme. Pian olemme siis shelttikasvattajia.

You read it right - Me and Petri are going to be breeders. We went to the breeders course in Raahe and we passed the final test. Now we can set up a kennel. In those thoughts we started wondering the name and then finally we got sent our application to the Shetland Sheepdog Club's meeting. At the meeting they unanimously were in favor to our application, so now we are waiting Kennel Club's response to the application. Soon we are sheltie breeders.

Agilityä - Agility

Talvitreenit on aloitettu vihdoin. Saipa aloitusta odotellakin, koska hallin pystyttämisessä meni oma aikansa. Pääsimme kuitenkin alkupeloista huolimatta Oulun Koirakerhon kursseille mukaan. Pääsin jopa Viivin ja Lexien kanssa samana päivänä harjoituksiin. Lexie on ensin ja sitten Viivi. Lexien kurssia vetävät Terhi Luiro ja Maarit Tervonen (Viivin kasvattaja). Viivin kurssia vetävät Annika Haikonen ja Senja Ylinen. Ehdimme Lexien kanssa käydä kaksissa treeneissä, kun neidin juoksut alkoivat. Olemmekin siis loppuvuoden tauolla. Viivi aloittaa juoksut varmasti kohta myös, joten hänenkin kanssaan jäämme tauolle.

Winter training has begun at last. We had to wait the start longer than expected because of the delay in putting up the training hall. We were able, however, despite early fears, to get in one of Oulu Dog Club courses. I even got with Viivi and Lexie to train on the same day. Lexie is a first and then Viivi. Lexie's course is run by Luiro Terhi and Maarit Tervonen (Viivi's breeder). Viivi's course is run by Annika Haikonen and Senja Ylinen. With Lexie we only got to be in two rehearsals, when the lady began her runs. We are, therefore, on break the end of the year. Viivi's runs will start soon also, so with her we shall take a break from practices soon.

Itsenäisyyspäivänä KAS järjesti epäviralliset agilitykilpailut Kuivasjärvellä. Lähdimme Viivin kanssa sinne taas kokeilemaan, miten osaamme. No - tulos oli taas, että Viivillä oli enemmän virtaa kuin koko kylällä. Saimmepa leikkiä.

Shelttiläisten pikkujoulut

26.11.2011 vietettiin Pohjois-Suomen Shelttien pikkujouluja Halosenniemessä. Paikalle saapui kasa nelijalkaisia kaksijalkaisine ystävineen. Vilskettä riitti ja hauskaakin oli. Tarjolla oli perinteisesti paljon erilaista purtavaa ja jouluista ruokaa. Me veimme paikalle pizzaa suolaisten eväiden tarpeen tyydyttämiseksi. Ohjelmaa oli järjestetty pihalla esimerkiksi nopeuskisan ja agilityradan merkeissä. Rieha ei ollut siis vain ihmisille, vaan myös koirillekin oli ohjelmaa. Lopuksi kaikki saivat joululahjan Joulupukin kontista. Kuvia laitan niin pian kuin mies ehtii ne muokata.

On 26th of November we celebrated Northern Finland Sheltie Christmas party at Halosenniemi. There had arrived a big group of two-legged with their four-legged friends. Bustle was enough, and boy we had fun. There was traditionally a lot of different snacks and Christmas food. We took there some pizza to satisfy salty snacks requirements. There were some program organized in the yard such as a speed race and agility race track. Happening was not just for only human, but also for dogs. At the end of the day all received a Christmas present from Santa's bag. I'll put some pictures here as soon as Petri can edit them.
