Erkkarireissu Paimioon 26.–28.3.2011

Viime viikonloppuna järjestettiin Paimiossa shetlanninlammaskoirien pääerikoisnäyttely. Pääpäivä oli sunnuntai, mutta pitkän ajomatkan takia, lähdimme liikkeelle jo lauantai-iltana klo 21 ja palasimme takaisin Ouluun vasta maanantaiaamuna klo 6. Ajettavana oli vaivaiset 700 km yhteen suuntaan, koska teimme pienen kierroksen Raahen kautta mennessä ja palatessa.

Valmistautuminen

Reissua varten neidit piti tietysti pestä puhtaiksi ja harjata kiiltäviksi. Kynsien leikkuun ja ylimääräisten karvojen lyhentelyn tein samalla. Tärkeintä oli saada korvat esiin ja turkki tuuheaksi. Lexien kohdalla homma onnistui hyvin, mutta Viivi-rassu ei turkkia saanutkaan paksunnettua, vaikka aluksi pesun jälkeen siltä tuntuikin. Nutrolin oli purrut tosin molemmilla takalistoon eli takapään karvoitus oli tuuhentunut huomattavasti viime kerrasta.

Hieman on vielä hakusessa tuo leikkely, että miten niitä pitääkään trimmailla noita koiria, mutta toivottavasti pian tuo opaskirja alkaa opettaa, että pääsen ns. rutiinista kiinni. Harjoittelu tekee mestarin...

Lauantai 26.3.2011

Lauantaipäivä sujui talkoillessa ensin Haukiputaalla agikisoissa ja loppuilta piti pakkailla tavaroita. Meinasi välissä virta loppua, mutta tiesin, että bussissa voisi sitten nukuskella. Toisaalta talkoopisteitä piti hankkia kesän kursseja varten. Agilityä on aina kiva katsella, mutta etenkin silloin, kun tuttuja on kisailemassa. Heitä saa jännittää kovasti. Saaralla ja Rukalla meni hienosti kisat.

Kun pääsin kotiin, aloitin pakkailun ja tavaroiden koonnin. Hetki piti miettiä, mitä mukaan pitää ottaa. Lopulta saimme itsemme sitten lähtökuntoon ja suuntasimme kohti Oulua ja linjuriasemaa. Hieman naureskelimme toisillemme, että miten pääsimmekään lähtemään niin ajoissa liikkeelle. Yleensä me ollaan aina myöhässä, mutta nyt etuajassa. Kauheaa!

Linjuriasemalla meitä odottelikin jo bussi ja iso lauma toisia koiranomistajia. Petri nakkasi automme autohallipaikalle Etu-Lyöttyyn sekä kävi linjurimatkaa varten tarvikeostoksilla. Minä rakentelin muiden koiranomistajien kanssa häkkejä linja-autoon ja samalla pissatin tytöt. Pääsimme lähtemään hyvissä ajoin Oulusta kohti päämääräämme.

Yö meni nukkuessa bussin ahtaissa tiloissa. Sen huomasin jo valitettavasti alkumatkasta, että istuinvälejä ei ollut tarkoitettu minun jaloilleni. Yritä laittaa kirahvi linja-autoon. Täten kärsin koko matkan ahtaista tiloista. Yritin löytää koko ajan paikkaa, mutta valitettavasti sitä ei löytynyt. Lopulta käänsin itseni Petriä päin ja sain jalkani koukistettua nätisti ilman ahdistusta. Petri-rassu joutui kärsimään pahemmin ko. ahdistuksesta. Lopulta Pete hakikin tyttöjen häkistä itselleen kunnollisen niskatyynyn. (Tämä tosin nähtiin pyhäinhäväistyksenä ja kauheana kidutuksena...) Tytoillä oli siellä myös muuta pehmustetta, joten he eivät tätä tyynyä kaipaisi.

Bussimatkailu on sinänsä helppoa, koska itse ei tarvitse ajaa sitä väliä. Sanoinkin useaan kertaan, että onneksi Petrin ei tarvinnut ajaa, koska silloin hän olisi ollut huomattavasti väsyneempi. Lisäväsymystä aiheutti myös tietysti kellojen siirtäminen tunnilla eteenpäin matkan aikana, joten yöstä nipsaistiin yksi tunti pois.

Koirat eivät hirveästi välittäneet bussimatkailusta: Lexie oli alkumatkan itkeskellyt ja Viivi vinkunut, mutta olivat sen kuitenkin lopettaneet. Menomatkalla Lexie oli jopa oksentanut kerran. Onneksi pissatustauot ja muut katkaisivat heidän rasitustaan. Ihmeen hyvin tytöt muuten viihtyivät häkissä.

Matka meni muuten ns. bussikuskin ehdoilla: 4 tunnin välein oli 45 minuutin tauko ja päästyämme perille, bussikuski otti 9 tunnin nukkumistauon. Tämähän sopi kuin valettu, koska näyttelyissä meni oma aikansa eli koko pitkä päivä. Pääpysähdyspaikkoja olivat Hirvaskankaan ABC ja Turun lähellä oleva toinen ABC, jonka nimeä en nyt muista.


Sunnuntai 27.3.2011

Saavuimme sunnuntaina kohteeseen klo 8. Näyttelypaikkana toimi Paimiossa Kilosportin tilat. Ulkoa paikka ei näyttänyt juuri kummoiselta, mutta sisältä paikka oli saatu koiranäyttelyiden näköiseksi. Keskellä hallia oli kolme kehää, joiden ympärille oli järjestetty tilaa koirien häkeille ja ihmisille. Aluksi paikat näyttivät ahtailta, mutta lopulta näin ei ollut, vaan kaikki sopivat tiloihin mainiosta. Osin oli hieman väljääkin.

Me valtasimme oman paikkamme nopeasti katsomon ja vessan lähimaastosta. Oululaiset muutenkin valitsivat paikkansa samalta alueelta. Meidän naapureita olivat Susadanin ja Smartteamin väet, joten olimme mukavasti keskellä ammattilaisia. Heiltä saikin sitten kysyä vinkkejä.

Itse näyttelyn järjesti Lännen Shelttiyhdistys ry. Rokotusten tarkistus aloitettiin klo 8 ja toimintaa jatkui klo 18 asti. Paikalla oli n. 230 koiraa, joten haukkujaa riitti. Meidän kilpailumme oli narttujen nuorten luokka klo 10 ja narttujen pentuluokka 5-7 kk klo 12. Narttujen nuorten luokka olisi kehässä 3 ja tuomari toimi Irene Beaden, Iso-Britanniasta. Narttujen pentuluokka oli kehässä 1 ja tuomarina toimi Pirjo Aaltonen.

Ilmoittautumisen ja rokotusten tarkistusten yhteydessä huomasin, että Lexie oli sijoitettu väärään pentuluokkaan eli vanhempien joukkoon. Tämä oli selkeä virhe ja korjasimme sen sitten näyttelytoimikunnalle ilmoittautumispisteessä. Onneksi vaihto kävi helposti.

Kun asettelimme tavaroitamme, huomasin muutaman ilkeän puutoksen. Olin jättänyt pumppupulloni kotiin pakkauksen tiimellyksessä ja herkkunakit olivat jääneet linja-auton jääkaappiin. Siinä meinasi itku tulla, kun huomasin tämän. Onneksi Seija antoi minun lainata omaa pumppupulloaan ja - - - antoi meille nakkeja omistaan. Kaunis kiitos siis heille avusta!

Ensimmäinen hommani olikin heti aloittaa puunata Viiviä eli leikkelin vielä ylimääräisiä tupsuja pois korvista, tassuista ja muualta kehosta. Tämän jälkeen tietysti pörrötin neidin niin hyvin kuin vain osasin. Olin ottanut mukaani trimmausohjekirjankin, mutta siinä tärrätessä en hirveästi sitä selaillut. Pitää kirjoittaa omaan käyttöön sellainen näyttelyihin valmistautumisen opas, mitä pitää tehdä milloinkin ja miten. Pieni aikataulukaan ei olisi pahitteeksi. Se helpottaisi kovasti tällaista aloittelevaa koiraharrastajaa.

Petri häipyi aika äkkiä kameransa ja Juhan kanssa kuvailemaan paikkaa. Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry järjestäisi pääerkkarin seuraavana vuonna, joten pojat oli määrätty kuvailemaan paikkaa ja sisustuksia. Niissä tosin ei kuvaamista juuri ollut, koska sisustuskin oli aika pelkistetty: katosta roikkui verkkoja, pöydille oli laitettu kukkia ja kehiin koristeita, mutta siinäpä se oli. Paikka oli sen näköinen, että se oli kasattu kokooon aika nopeasti.

Viivin kehä - Narttujen nuorten luokka

Klo 10 oli aika siirtyä kehän laidalle. Narttuja ko. luokassa oli 28, joista poissa oli muutama. Kauhea määrä, mutta sellaista se on. Kehä alkoi n. vartin myöhässä aikataulusta. Oli ilkeä seisoskella ja odotella tuomaria. Lopulta hän saapui paikalle ja pääsimme aloittamaan.

Tuomari jakoi porukat kymmenellä. Täten aina kymmenen meni kehään liukuhihnatyylillä. Ensin ensimmäiset kiersivät, sitten toinen aalto ja lopulta kolmas aalto. Petri kuvasi kävelymme videolle ja nyt pääsin katsomaan itseäni tämän jälkeen katsojan perspektiivistä. En ollut tyytyväinen kulkuuni ollenkaan. Viivi tosin oli taas nätisti pöydällä ja seisoa pönötti myös kivasti. Kulussa on se, mitä pitää korjata. Viivi osaa olla nätisti, kun se näin haluaa.

Videon katsottuani ensimmäisenä tuomiona on, että ei enää hulmuavaa hametta, vaan housut ja pitkä paita. Toisaalta kengiksikään en ota enää saappaita, vaan mahdollisimman pehmytpohjaiset kengät, joilla on helppo säännellä nopeutta. Tällä kertaa Viivin liikkeiden hitaus johtui kyllä osin myös ohjaajastakin. Harjoittelu tekee mestarin. Seuraavat kisat olisivat Vaasassa, jossa näytän, miten liikumme oikein - tasaisesti ja nopeasti askeltaen eteenpäin katsoen. Se on tavoitteeni. Jos sen jälkeen ei eriä irtoa, lopetamme Viivin kanssa yrittämisen.

Tästä erkkarista tuloksena oli siis EH eli erittäin hyvä ja sininen nauha. Puutoksena oli kulku edessä - Viivi katsoo minua, kun kävelee ja se sotkee askeleita. Toisena tuomari ei tykännyt Viivin ilmeestä - oli kuulemma liian poikamainen. Taas tuomari sanoi, että Viivi esittää itsensä hyvin. Ohjaaja siis kouluun.

Lexien kehä - Narttujen pentuluokka 5-7 kk

Koska meidät oli aluksi laitettu väärään pentuluokkaan, pääsimme kilpailemaan viimeisenä. Saimme siis tulla ja mennä omaa vauhtiamme. Se oli oikeastaan mukavaa, koska edessämme meni Seija Sirin kanssa, joten tuttuja oli likellä. Lexien kanssa en syyllistynyt hitaaseen kävelyyn, koska kävimme viikolla Lexien kanssa nätötreeneissä Ostyn tiloissa ja siellä liike tuli varmimmin esiin pienellä juoksulla. Lexie on rento ja rauhallinen, joten hän ei lähde hötkyämään ja juoksemaan kuten Viivi.

Lexiellä on mahtava taito mennä nätisti eteenpäin ja pojottaa, kun se on tarpeen. Kiitos siis Lindalle opetuksesta jo pennusta asti ja kiitos itselleni, että olen jaksanut jatkaa ko. harjoitusta. Olisinpa ollut yhtä fiksu Viivin kanssa. Kunpa kunpa - joo joo. Me katsomme tulevaisuuteen.

Lexie seisoi nätisti pöydällä ja antoi tuomarin tutkia hänet hyvin. Kävely sujui hyvin, kun kiersimme yksilönä kehää. Tuomari tosin juoksutti meitä enemmän kuin muita. Saimme kiertää kehää useasti. Ilmeisesti jokin liikkeessä ei miellyttänyt tuomaria tai hän halusi varmistua jostakin. Me kiersimme sitten käskystä kehää.

Tuomari valitsi jatkoon kuusi koiraa ja me pääsimme myös! JEE! Voi sitä iloa, mikä minulle tuli, kun näin kävi. Siellä kiersimme sitten kehää ja yksi tiputettiin pois. Valitettavasti viidestä me tipuimme sitten seuraavana vähän ajan päästä pois, mutta saimme kuitenkin KP:n eli kunniapalkinnon - liilan ruusukkeen. Olin tyytyväinen! Ajatella, kuinka pienestä. Olisihan se ollut kiva sijoittua, mutta aina ei voi saada kaikkea. Ensi kerralla menemme paremmin.

Loppuiltapäivä

Loppupäivä menikin sitten seuraillessa toisten koirien onnistumisia. Petri kuvaili porukkaa ja minä kasailin tavaroitamme siten, että olisi sitten helppo lähteä pois, kun sen aika tulisi. Ostimme myös muutamia tuliaisia itsellemme, kuten shelttipinnin ja arvoista saamamme voitot: kaksi hiirimattoa, paita, rannerengas, panda-jääkaappimagneetti ja näyttelylapun pidikkeen. Toisaalta olisi ollut kiva ostella jotain vielä shelttipajasta, mutta olo oli niin kauhea, että se ei tullut mieleen. Pian meninkin nukkumaan paikkamme viereen tuolille. Pienet 1,5 tunnin päiväunet olivat ihan paikallaan.

Oululaiset pärjäsivät hienosti Paimiossa. Pitää pyytää tarkemmat luvut vielä Maaritilta.

Bussi saapui ja menoksi

Bussi saapui seitsemän aikaan kohteeseen ja aloimme pakata autoa. Jokaisella oli kauhea nälkä, joten pysähtyisimme samassa paikassa, missä viimeksikin viimeisen kerran ennen tänne Paimioon tulemista.

Syönnin jälkeen bussiin laskeutui hiljaisuus, kun kaikki väsähtivät maha täynnä. Minä en muista tulomatkasta muuta kuin Hirvaskankaan, lumituiskun Raahen seudulla sekä moottoritien alun Limingassa. Petri sai bussikuskin taivuteltua kiertämään firman kautta, että hän voisi hypätä siinä pois. Ei hirveästi hotsittanut ajaa ensin linjuriasemalle ja sitten sieltä kävellä hakemaan auto. Näin se onnistui ilman suurempaa vaivaa.

Oulussa olimme siis hieman ennen kuutta maanantaiaamuna. Matka oli ollut pitkä ja vaati veronsa väsymyksenä. Onneksi saimme nukahtaa muutaman tunnin vielä aamulla ennen töihin menoa, mutta väsymys jäi kyllä koko päiväksi elämään. Olo oli kuin koomassa ja paha olo seurasi koko päivän. Opetus tapahtui vasemmalla kädellä ja opiskelijat sen kyllä huomasivat.

Trip to Paimio on 26th and 28th of March

On last weekend at Paimio was held Shetland Sheepdog Specialty Show. Main event day was Sunday, but because of a long drive, we started the trip on Saturday night at 21 and came back to Oulu on Monday morning at 6. We had to drive a mere 700 km in one direction, because we did a small tour through Raahe.


Preparation

For the trip I had to wash clean and brush shiny our girls. Nail cutting and the extra hair shortening I did the same. The most important thing was to get the ears visible and coat all thick. In Lexie case I was successful, but poor Viivi did not got fluffy coat even after washing it initially seemed so. Nutrolin oil has bitten them both in the ass ie butt hair has gotten all thick and fluffy considerably more since the last time.

I ain't so good in cutting, so I have to think very hard, how much they need to be trimmed those dogs, but hopefully soon I will start learning from the teaching guide. Practice makes perfect ...


Saturday 26th of March

On Saturday I was in agility competition in Haukipudas as an assistant. I left packing on the evening. I almost got exhausted between, but I knew that on the bus I could get some sleep. On the other hand I had to gather some points for the summer training. Agility is always nice to watch, but especially when you have someone familiar person doing it. You can get excited for them. The games went great with Saara and Ruka.

When I got home, I started packing and gathering the goods. I had to think for a moment, what I should take with. Eventually we got ourselves ready and then off we headed towards the city of Oulu and bus station. We had a little laugh at each other about how we got to leave on time to the station. Generally, we're always late, but now ahead of schedule. Horrors!

On bus station there were a large flock of other dog owners. Petri left me and the dogs at station and took our car to garage spot in Etu-Lyötty. He also did some shopping for the trip: candy and some lemonade. I reconstructed the cages on the bus with other dog owners. At the same time the girls needed to pee before bus drive. We were able to leave well in advance towards the show in Paimio.

The night in the bus went like sleeping in a tight place can go. I noticed it in the beginning already, unfortunately, that the seat spacing was not meant to my feet. Try to put a giraffe on the bus. Thus, I suffered tight spaces all the way to Paimio. I tried to find the place all the time, but unfortunately it was not found. Eventually, I turned myself around towards Petri and my leg bent very nicely without any anxiety. Poor Petri suffered more of that anxiety. Eventually, Pete went and took a pillow from girls cage. (Of course, this was seen as sacrilege and terrible torture ...) Girls had more padding there too, so they did not miss this little pillow.

Traveling by bus in itself is easy, since you do not have to drive. I said several times that, fortunately, Petri did not have to drive, because then he would have been much more tired. Fatigue got an additional course, when it was time to move clocks forward an hour during the trip, so night was shorter by a one hour. Nice...

Dogs did not bother that much of bus travelling: Lexie had cried a little in the beginning of the journey and Viivi had vined, but after a while, however, it stopped. On the way Lexie had even vomited once. Fortunately we had pee breaks and others, which cut off their burden. Our girl got to Paimio in one peace after all.

Our trip was scheduled by our driver: every 4 hours we had to take 45 minute long break and when we got there the bus driver took 9 hours sleep break. This was fine for us, because the shows lasted the whole day. Main stopping places were ABC Hirvaskangas and ABC Valo near Paimio.


Sunday 27th of March

We arrived to Paimio at 8 pm. The exhibition venue was Paimio Kilo Sport facilities. From the outside the place just did not seem so nice, but inside the place looked more like a dog show place. In the middle of the hall there were three circles. Around them there were arranged some space for the cages, dogs and owners. At first it seemed, that there were not enough place, but ultimately that was not the case. After everyone had taken their places, it seemed that there were even open spots.

We took our place under the auditorium and near the toilet. All the people from Oulu came to that area too. Our neighbors were Susadan's Kennel and SmartTeam Kennel. We were comfortably in the middle of professionals. They got handy, when you had to ask some tips.

Dog Show was organized by the West Finland Sheltie Association. They started checking vaccination at 8 am and continued the show until at 18 o'clock. There were about 230 dogs, so there was barking in the air. Our competitions were young bitch class at 10 am and females puppy class for 5-7 months at 12 am. Bitches junior class was in the ring 3 and the judge was Irene Beaden from Great Britain. Bitch puppy class was in the ring 1 and judge Pirjo Aaltonen from Finland.

During the vaccination check, I noticed that Lexie was misplaced in the older puppy class. She was at first showing among the oldest puppies. This was a clear mistake and I fixed it to the exhibition committee. Fortunately, the replacement was easy.

When I was taking out the equipment, I noticed a few nasty deficiency. I had left home my water spray gun and little sausages I forgot in the bus. It almost got me crying when I noticed this. Fortunately, Seija let me borrow her own water spray and - - - gave us sausages from her own stash. So thank you to them for help!

First it was my job to start as soon as possible to groom Viivi. I did the cuts and extra edging to the ears, paws and other parts of the body. Subsequently, of course, I tried to puff the lady as best as I could. I had taken with me the grooming guide, but I didn't have the time to look at it. I must write my own copy of it, so I can use it in exhibitions - a preparation guide, what to do at any given time, and how. Small schedule would not be a bad idea. It would help a lot for such a novice dog owner.

Petri suddenly vanished with Juha and his camera. Northern Finland Shelties Association will organize the next FSSC:s Main Specialty Show, so the boys were told to took pictures of the seats and interiors. However, they did not have to do it lot, because the inside decoration were a little plain: from the roof there were nets hanging, tables and the show ring had been covered with flowers, but that was it. The place looked like it had been assembled together pretty quickly.


Viivi's ring - young bitches class

At 10 it was time to move to the edge of the ring. In this class there were 28 bitches, from which a few had cancelled. A terrible amount, but that's what it is. The ring begun about fifteen minutes behind schedule. It was not nice to stand around and wait for the judge. Eventually she arrived at the scene and we were able to start.

Because of the big group, the judge divided us with ten - so there were 3 groups. We wouldn't have to run around the ring in groud. We showed ourselves in waves: when first 10 had ran around the ring, then came the second wave and after that the last. Petri took our walk to video, so I got to watch myself after the show on viewer's perspective. I wasn't happy at all to my walk. Viivi though stood very neatly on the table and on the floor. The running is what we need to study. Viivi can be nicely when she desires it.

When I watched the video after the ring I have to take note to myself that 1) No more flowing skirts, only pants and long shirt. 2) No more high heels. I need some very soft shoes, which are easy to walk and steady my pace. This time, Viivi's slowness of movement was also my fault. Practice makes perfect. The next show is in Vaasa, where I'll show how we are moving right - a steady and rapidly , but head up and forward looking. It is my goal. If we don't master it, we'll stop Viivi's shows for a while. We'll have to practice. In one month time we are in open class, so there we need to be good.

From this special show we got VG - very good and the blue ribbon. Our deficiency was steps in front - When Viivi looks at me she'll walk incorrectly. Another thing the judge did not like was Viivi's appearance - She said that Viivi was too boyish. All though I thought that Viivi didn't do well, the judge said that Viivi presented herself well. Result - Henna has to start a show school for herself.


Lexie's ring - puppy bitches class (5-7 months)

Since we were first placed in the wrong puppy class, we were able to change us to correct one. Our place was the last - so we were able to come and go with our own momentum. It was really nice because in front of us went Seija with Siri, so familiar puppy was in front of us. I didn't move slow with Lexie, because on this week we had been on show training with Lexie in Osty's premises. There I noticed that best movement comes out with little run. Lexie is a relaxed and calm puppy in a ring, so she does not run and play like Viivi.

Lexie has a great skill to walk sweetly forward and stand still when needed. So, thank you Linda for teaching our puppy from the beginning and thank you for myself that I have continued the exercises. I wish I'd been as smart with Viivi. I wish I wish - yeah, yeah. We'll look to the future.

Lexie stood neatly on the table and allowed the judge to examine her well. Our walk went well, when we walked around the circle on our own. However, the judge runned us more than others. We had to run around the ring several times. Apparently the judge wasn't so sure of the motion or she wanted to confirm something.

Judges chose six dogs to final and we got in! Yay! Oh, the joy, which came to me when I realized what happened. There we runned around the circle and judge dropped one dog out. Unfortunately, the fifth one to drop was us, but we were able to get POI's - a merit award and a lilac rosette. I was pleased! Imagine, from how small thing. It would have been nice to be one of the top four, but we can not always get everything. Next time we will do better.


Final Afternoon

Rest of the day went by fast. We followed other dogs successes. Petri took pictures of the place, dogs etc. I myself went to a pile up our goods so that it would be easy to gather it, when it was time to go away. We also bought some souvenirs for ourselves. I bought myself a sheltie pin and two raffle tickets: We got two mouse pads, a t-shirt, a bracelet, a panda fridge magnet and show clip. On the other hand it would have been nice to buy something from Sheltie Shop, but I felt so terrible tired that it did not come to mind. Soon after this I went to sleep on a chair next to our things. Small 1.5-hour nap was quite nice way to spend some time.

Shelties from Oulu area did well in Paimio. I have to ask about more detailed figures from Maarit.


The bus arrived and trip home started

The bus arrived in time around seven and we started to pack our stuff back to bus. Everyone had a terrible hunger, so we desided to stop at the same place where we stopped before coming here to Paimio.

After the meal, when everyone settled in the bus there landed the silence. Everyone were so tired and they had their stommach full. I do not remember anything from the journey of back home. Just that we stopped at Hirvaskangas, there was snow blizzard in Raahe region. I woke up in the beginning of the motorway in Liminka. Petri was to persuade the bus driver to drive next to Pete's firm so that he could jump off there. That way he would not have to walk from the bus station there to get the car. This way it would be much easier.

We were at Oulu a little before six o'clock on Monday morning. The trip was a long and fatigue took its toll. Fortunately, we were able to fall asleep for a few hours before going to work, but fatigue stayed us the whole day. I felt like a coma patient and I had a bad feeling all day. I teached the kids with my left hand and the students saw it quite well.

Hiihtoloma meni ja näyttelykausi alkaa

Hiihtoloma meni ohitse, että vilahti. Oli ihanaa viettää sitä pitkästä aikaa miehen kanssa yhdessä. Aamuisin ei tarvinnut kiirehtiä töihin tai murehtia, että toinen ehtii töihin aikanaan. Sai loikoilla haluamaansa kloaikaan (tosin neidit pitivät huolen siitä, että herätys oli aina klo 9).

Koiratkin tuntuivat nauttivan, kun olimme molemmat kotona. Intoa ja riemua riitti, kun leikimme ja teimme kaikkea yhdessä. Ilmat olivat loistavat lenkkeilyä ja muuta ulkoilua silmällä pitäen. Kävimme hiihtolomalla Varjakassa kiertelemässä sekä tietysti perinteisillä lenkkipoluillamme vaeltelemassa. Viikkoon mahtui myös näyttelyharjoitukset ja perinteinen shelttilenkki. Harmillista on vain se, että viikko on hirveän lyhyt aika.

Hiihtoloma tosin alkoi inhottavasti eli ripuliepidemialla, mutta onneksi se loppui sitten alkuviikosta ja neidit pystyivät olemaan ihan rauhassa.

Lexien eli Lellun tempauksia

Lexie on tiputellut hampaitaan mukavalla tahdilla. Olemme antaneet hänelle päivittäin melkein luita pureskeltavaksi, että hampaat varisisivat lattialle. Tyttö tykkää järsiä kaikkea, joten hyvä käyttää se hyödyksi.

Viikon aikana Lexie on osannut ottaa kivat uudet "lelut" käyttöönsä aina, kun siihen on tullut tilaisuus. Leluina ovat toimineet esim. lattialle jääneet villasukat tai tavalliset sukat tai sohvan nojalle jäänyt silmälasikotelo ja varsinkin puhdistusliinat ovat suosikkeja. Eräänä päivänä neiti raahasi myös puhelintani pitkin lattiaa. Silmät siis tarvitaan myös selkään meillä täällä.

Pissailu ja kakkailu sisälle ovat jääneet nyt viimein pois päivittäisistä rutiineista. Neidille kävi kuten Viivillekin, että hän tajusi tulleensa isoksi tytöksi ja isot tytöt eivät pissaile tai kaki sisälle. Toisaalta Lexie varmaankin huomasi myös, että jos inahtaa takaovella, päästetään ulos. Tässä hommassa tekee paljon se, että talossa on paikalla kaksi silmäparia samaan aikaan, joten sisäsiisteyskasvatus toimi hyvin.

Kynsisakset ja Lexie eivät sovi yhteen. Olen nyt yrittänyt kovasti harjoitella tätä Lexien kanssa, mutta nakitkaan eivätkä muutkaan herkut auta tässä. Lexie huutaa kuin tapettu, kun siltä leikataan kynsiä. Huuto ei tosin enää ole niin pahaa kuin alussa. Jos menet koskemaan tassuja saksilla, kuuluu huuto ja tassu lähtee salamana kädestä. Onneksi olen kuitenkin saanut leikattua kynnet ilman pahempia verenvalutuksia, joten traumoja sen suhteen ei ole tullut.

Viivi sydän Lexie

Lexie on alkanut kiintyä Viiviin. Sen on huomannut siitä, että kun Viivi menee nukkumaan johonkin, esim. sohvalle tai nojatuolille, Lexie kipuaa pian viereen nukkumaan. Lexie ei enää aja Viiviä pois, vaan menee nätisti viereen ja lähelle. On ollut ihana huomata tuo, että vihdoinkin sopu alkaa syntyä talossa. Vielä tosin pitää nahistella polulla ja sisälläkin tietyistä leluista.

Viivi on mustasukkainen

Viivi on ollut meidän vaavi kauan ja välillä mustasukkaisuus nostaa päätään. Lexie osaa käyttää tätä hyväkseen ja joskus ilkeyttään (ei koirat sitä tajua) tekee Viivin mustasukkaiseksi. Jos Lexie on sylissäni ja Viivi tulee lähelle, Lexie alkaa kiehnätä minua vasten kuin kissat. Tällöin Viivi alkaa murahdella ja haukkua Lexielle sekä tietysti tuo leluja minulle, että saisi huomion pois Lexieltä. Olen silloin nakannut molemmat alas ja ollut huomioimatta molempia.

Joskus, kun Lexie on sylissäni, Viivi hyppää minun syliini kanssa. Lexie yrittää tällöin tietysti taas iholle, mutta samoin Viivikin pusuttelee. Tämänkin jälkeen nakkaan yleensä molemmat lattialle ja olen huomioimatta.

Viivi ja Lexie leikkivät joskus siten, että Viivi on lattialla kyljellään tai selällään ja taistelee tassuille Lexien kanssa. Tämä ei ole alistumista, vaan hassuttelua ja leikkiä, mikä tapahtuu ilman murinoita ja ärinöitä tai ilman, että Viivi jähmettyy ja alistuu. Sitä voi jatkua vaikka kuinka kauan. Kun Lexie sitten tekee sen, mitä Viivi eli menee lattialle kiemurtelemaan selälleen ja ärisemään samalla tavalla kuin Lexie, Viivi ei pidäkään siitä, vaan alkaa haukkua hieman äreänä ja murista Lexielle. Tätä en tajua, mikä valtapeli tässä on kyseessä. Kunpa olisi koirapsykologi...

Näyttelyharjoituksia

Näyttelykausi alkaa taas pian. Ensimmäisinä olisivat puolentoista viikon päästä. Silloin kyseessä on shetlanninlammaskoirien pääerikoisnäyttely Paimiossa. Järjestäjänä on Lännen Shelttiyhdistys. Lähdemme sinne molempien koirien kanssa ja pääsemme paikanpäälle yhteisbussilla. Kiitos Kirsille, että jaksoi järjestää asian. Nyt on mukava sitten reissata yhdessä ja vaihtaa erilaisia niksejä kaikkien kanssa ennen näyttelyä, mihin kannattaa kiinnittää huomiota. Jännää! Odotan innolla matkaa!

Viivillä näyttelykäyttäytyminen on edelleen hieman harjoituksessa. Viivi näkee edelleen ko. homman ns. leikkinä, joten hän pomppii ja hyppii, kun kävelemme. Seisoa neiti osaa nätisti ja pöydällä saa häntä tutkia hyvin. Kävely vain tökkii, mutta siihen me kiinnitämme huomiota intensiivitreenillä. Katsotaan, miten käy sitten näyttelyissä.

Lexie myös hakee ns. kävelyssä vielä oikeaa tahtia. Petri esittelee meidän neidin siellä, joten katsotaan, kuinka käy. Harjoituksissa neiti seisoi nätisti, mutta kävelyssä oli hieman hakemista. Sitäkin pitää treenata intensiivisesti vielä.

Shelttilenkillä oli kivaa

Kävimme viime sunnuntaina shelttilenkkeilemässä taas viikon tauon jälkeen. Neidit osaavat jo molemmat hoksata sen, että kun käännytään Haukkukeitaalle päin. Takapenkiltä alkaa innokas vikinä silloin ja se vain yltyy, mitä lähemmäs pääsemme. Suloista.

Ilma oli ihana ja oli kiva kävellä porukassa menemään. Lexie nautti hyvinkin huomiosta ja otti sen arvolleen sopivasti. Neiti vain hieman on vilkuri, koska vapaana on kiva juoksennella. Luoksetulo ei ole vielä parhain, mutta opimme hiljalleen. Pakkaskausi hieman jarrutti sitä kehitystä, koska kotona sisällä ei hirveästi tilaa ole sellaiseen kunnolliseen harjoitteluun. Harjoitus tekee mestarin ja sitä jatkamme joka metsälenkillä. Jos Viivi osaa, osaa se Lexiekin. Jukan "ravista ennen käyttöä" -metodi voisi tehota tässäkin tapauksessa.

Ski vacation went by with speed. It was wonderful to spend it together with my husband after a long time. In the mornings, there was no need to rush to work or worry about that other got to work in time. We could lay in the bed as long as we wanted (although ladies made sure that the alarm was set always at 9 o'clock).

The dogs seemed to enjoy that we were both home. There was enthusiasm and joy in the air, when we played and did everything together. The weather was excellent for jogging and other outdoor activities. We went to Varjakka to wander around, and of course to the traditional paths. Week also included an exhibition training and a traditional exercises in terms of sheltie group jog. The annoying thing about this holiday was just that a week is awfully short period of time.

Although skiing holiday began with a nasty case of diarrea, fortunately it ended earlier this week and ladies were able to be at peace from it.


Lexien ie Lellu's doings

Lexie has dropped her teeths off in a nice pace. We have given her almost daily chewing bones so that the teeth would drop. Girl likes to nibble everything, so it is good to benefit of that habit.

During the week, Lexie has been eager to take nice new "toys" in use every time it has been possible. As new toys have acted such as wolly socks left on the floor or the ordinary socks left somewhere or spectacle case left on sofas arm and spectacles cleaning cloths are especially popular. One day our little lady was dragging my phone along the floor. Because of that we have needed eyes on the back too.

Peeing and pooping inside have now finally been away from daily routines. Lexie finally did like Viivi, when she realized that she is now a big girl and big girls do not pee or poop inside. On the other hand Lexie probably also noticed that if she whines at the back door, someone will come and let her out. In this business is usefull that there is two pairs of eyes at the house at the same time, so the pottytraining worked well.

Nail clippers and Lexie do not match. I am now trying hard to practice this with Lexie, but no sausages and other goodies can't help at all in here. Lexie is crying like we're killing her when it is time to cut nails. Clipping is certainly no longer as bad as it was at the beginning. If you go to near the paws with scissor she will cry out and a take of paws of your hands with lightning speed. Fortunately, I've still got a cut nails without blood shead or worse, so there has not been any traumatized moments.


Viivi heart Lexie

Lexie has started to become very attached to Viivi. I have noticed that when Viivi goes to sleep somewhere, for example, a chair or sofa, Lexie climbs soon there to be near her. Viivi no longer run away from Lexie, but will let her come nicely next to her. It's been wonderful to note that the this is finally started to happen. Even though on the paths and inside there is still fighting with certain toys.


Viivi is jealous

Viivi has been our baby for a long time so jealousy is rearing its head. Lexie knows how to use it in advantage and sometimes out of spite (though dogs do not get it) makes Viivi jealous. If Lexie is on my lap and Viivi comes too close, Lexie begins cuddling against me like cats. In this case, Viivi begins to grunt and bark at Lexie, and of course brings toys to me that I would notice her better. I have then put both of them down and has ignored them both.

Sometimes, when Lexie is in my arms, Viivi jumps into my arms too. Lexie tries then, of course, be at my the skin, but also Viivi kisses me. After this I have also put them both down on the floor and I have ignored them.

Viivi and Lexie play sometimes, so that Viivi is on the floor on its side or back and fights with her paws with Lexie. This is not as she would be downsizing to Lexie, but a play, which takes place without fighting. It's more like a play. It may continue endlessly. When Lexie does what Viivi and goes on the floor in the supine position and whirls and grunts the same way as Viivi, Viivi does not like it and begins to bark and growl at Lexie. This is something I do not get why this game is a huge issue to Viivi. I wish I was a dog psychologist ...


Exhibition Exercises

The exhibition season starts again soon. First show is on one and a half week. Then it is the Shetland Sheepdog's Special Show at Paimio . It's organized by the West Shetland Sheepdog organisation. We're going there with both of our dogs and we get there on a bus. Thank you to Kirsi that arranged this. Now it is nice to get onboad and together with everyone and exchange a variety of tricks before the show, in what you should pay attention. So exciting! I look forward to the trip!

Viivi's exhibition behavior is still a little tricky. Viivi seems to see it as a play, so she bounces and hops when we walk. She can stand nicely on the table and let everyone to study her well. She has problems with walk, but we'll keep training her. Let us see how it then shows.

Lexie is also searching for the so-called right walking pace. Petri presents our lady there, so it is ecxiting what happens. Miss Lexie stoods nicely, but the walk was a little a miss. We have to train that.

Sheltie jog was nice

We went last Sunday on shelti jog again after a weeks break. Both ladies knows when we turn to Haukkukeidas. From the back seat starts to hear squeaks when they are both anxious, and it will increase, the closer we get. Sweet.

The weather was lovely and it was nice crowd to walk with. Lexie enjoyed wide attention. Lexie is such a player, when she is free. It is nice to run around. Recall is not yet on it's the best, but we learn slowly. Frost, slightly slowed down the development because inside the home does not really have room for a decent workout. Practice makes perfect, and it will continue on the walks in the forest. If Viivi learned it, will Lexie learn it too. Jukka's "Shake before use" method could bite in this case.

5 kk kohta täynnä

Terveisiä meidän maailmastamme!

Olen ollut nyt tammikuun puolesta välistä helmikuun loppuun asti lomalla opetuksesta. Aikaa on ollut kasvattaa pientä ja isoa yhteiselämään. Aika on täten tietysti kulunut nopeasti ja siivillä. Harmi vain, että kaikki kiva loppuu aikanaan.

Lomailun aikana olemme valitettavasti tosin kärsineet pahimmasta pakkaskaudesta ikinä, joten ulkona emme ole kauheasti olleet, vaikka siellä olisi mielellään ollut. Ulkona on ollut nimittäin niin kaunista, kun pakkanen on kuurannut maat. Ulkoilumme ovat yleensä rajoittuneet postin hakuun ja tietysti leikkimiseen hetkittäin pihalla. Mitään erikoista emme ole voineetkaan tehdä. Kaikki vähänkään lauhemmat kelit käytimme heti lenkkeilyyn.


Viisi kuukautta tulee pienellä täyteen lauantaina ja Viivillä 2 v. lähenee koko ajan uhkaavasti. IIK!

Mitä on tapahtunut taas?

Olemme Viivin kanssa harrastaneet edelleen agilityä. Sen tekeminen on kivaa meistä molemmista, joten maanantait ovat olleet aina emo-tyttö-aikaa. Ihanaa! Viivi on jotenkin muuttunut niin miellyttämishaluiseksi tuon Lexien tulon jälkeen, että häntä on ihana ohjailla. Mukana tosin edelleen pitäisi pysyä, koska Viivin askellus radalla on todella nopeaa. Miten nostaisin kuntoani ja nopeuttani? Ehdotuksia otetaan vastaan.

Parilla edellisellä kerralla olemme saaneet Viivin kanssa harjoitella hieman pidempiäkin ratoja. Ratojen pituus kasvaa joka harjoituskerran jälkeen. Viimeksi, kun harjoittelimme pitkää rataa, se meni kuin unelma. Hieman oli valssissa taas ohjastajalla hakemista, mutta lopulta se meni kuin "tanssi".

Toisella harjoituskerralla harjoittelimme kahta lyhempää estekokonaisuutta. Ensimmäisen osion yksinkertainen valssi hyppyohjeistuksessa onnistui hyvin, mutta sitten toinen valssi monimutkaisemmalla hyppyestekokonaisuudella meni läskiksi ihan tosissaan. Lopulta ohjaaja tanssitti minut kädestä pitäen esteeltä toiselle. HUOKAUS! Hieman nolotti ja HÄVETTI! Kiitos tosin kuitenkin Jukalle kärsivällisyydestä. Kaikkia ei ole luotu tanssimaan. LOL!

Lexien maailmaan?

Lexie on voinut hieman huonosti. Noin kuukausi sitten meinasi maha olla hieman ripulilla, mutta saimme selvitettyä sen ongelman viikon kokeilun jälkeen. Sitten kaikki menikin hyvin, kunnes taas toissapäivänä sama vaiva nosti päätään. Syy-yhteys pakkasen laskuun ja lenkeillä käyntiin löytyy heti eli pitääkö niitä kakkakasoja haistella ja välillä maistella kielloista huolimatta? Nyt olemme siis taas paastolla ja riisikuurilla. TAAS!

Ilmoitin pienen neitimme myös pentuagilitykurssille Tupokselle Minnan koirakouluun. Aloitamme sen maaliskuun lopussa. Olemme myös lähdössä näyttelyyn pienen ja isomman neidin kanssa, koska Turun kupeessa järjestetään shetlanninlammaskoirien erikoisnäyttely maaliskuun loppupuolella. Petri lupasi näyttää pienen tytön kehässä, joten hän lähteekin sitten nätötreeneihin maaliskuun puolessa välissä. Katsotaan, mitä siitä tulee. Kiitos Virvelle, että ottaa meidät nätöilemään.

Muita kommelluksia?

Olemme pentutreffeilleet muiden samanaikäisten shelttien omistajien kanssa. Varsin Tynin Seijalla ja Sipolan Juhalla olemme vierailleet melko ahkerasti. Siellä Lexie tykkää leikkiä toisten samanikäisten kanssa. Toisaalta Lexie on myös se ns. muiden terrorisoija. Lexiellä on tapana ajattaa toisia sekä tietysti läpytellä tassuilla heidän naamojaan.

Kävimme viime viikonloppuna pitkästä aikaa shelttilenkillä. Emme ole siellä käyneet sen jälkeen, kun saimme Lexien, joten jo oli aikakin siis. Lexie oli aluksi hieman ihmeissään, mutta pian neiti tottui ja otti johtoaseman laumassa Viivin kanssa. Jos joku yrittikään tulla sinne viemään paikan, neidit ottivat yhdessä sen pyrkyrin kiinni ja ajattivat takaisin omalle paikalleen. Lexieltä ei todellakaan itseluottamusta puuttunut. Lexie oli todella rohkea ja reipas tyttö lenkillä.

Greetings from our world!

I've now been on leave from teaching. My leave lastet from mid-january to end of February. Time has gone to training the small one and big one to communal life. Time is, therefore, of course, passed quickly and on the wings. Too bad that all the fun come to an end.

Unfortunately, when we were at vacationing we suffered the worst frost season ever, so going out was not a good option every day although girls would have been happy there. Outside it was in fact so beautiful when the frost had frosted trees and land. Outdoor activities were generally limited to get the mail and of course to play occasionally in the courtyard. We have not been unable to do anything special. All the times, when the weather was a bit milder, we used to jogging.

Little one gains 5 months on Saturday and Viivi is gaining her two year birthday. IIK!

What has happened again?

Me and Viivi are still practicing agility. Doing it is fun for both of us, so Mondays were always mom-girl-time. Wonderful! Viivi is somehow changed after Lexien came, so it has been a wonderful to guide her on the track. Although I am still too slow to keep up with Viivi, because Viivis stride on the track is really fast. How to increase my fit and speed? Proposals will be received.

Every time we have had practices, we have been practicing with slightly longer tracks every time. Track length increases every workout session. The last time we practiced a long track, it went like a dream. Little waltz was again a little lost, but eventually it went as a "dance".

The second training session we practiced two shorter obstacle tracks. On the first section of the track a simple waltz went well, but then another different waltz jump thing and more complex one went to bits and peaces. I didn't know what I was doing. Eventually, the director danced me around by the hand. Sigh! Slightly embarrassed and ashamed! Thank you for Jukka of his patience though, however, not all of us was created to dance. LOL!

Lexie's world?

Lexie has been feeling a little bit poorly. About a month ago she got a diarrea, but we solved the problem a week after the start of it. Then it all went well until the day before yesterday, while the same ailment raised his head. Causal link between the decline in frost and walks straight from the start, or whether they sniff and tasting the poo ain't that good idea? Now here we are again with fasting and rice. AGAIN!

I informed our little girl to a small puppy agility course at Tupos in Minna's dog school . We start it in the end of March. We are also going to show our little ones, because there will be a Shetland Sheepdog Specialty show in late March. Petri promised to show her in the ring, so he goes to show school in mid-March. Let's see what become of it. Thank you for Virve that take us to that course.

Other mishaps?

We have been doing puppy gatherings with the other same age owners. At Tyni Seija and Sipola Juha we have visited quite often. There Lexie likes to play with others of similar ages. Lexie the other hand, it is also called the terrorist of that pack. Lexie tends to cause things to others and of course slap their noses with her paws.

Last weekend for a long time we went to sheltie jog. . We have not been there after we got Lexie, so it's about time, that is. Lexie was at first a little puzzled, but soon she got used to it and took the lead in the herd with Viivi. If someone tried to not come there to take place in the lead, ladies got rid of him, because that spot belonged to her. Lexie certainly was not lacking in self confidence. Lexie was very courageous and brave girl jogging.
