Kim Kurkisen agilitykoulutuksessa / Agility with Kim Kurkinen

Jokainen suomalainen agilityharrastaja tuntee varmasti Kim Kurkisen nimen. Viime viikonloppuna Oulun Koirakerho järjesti agilitykoulutusviikonlopun Haukkukeitaalla Evidensia Areenalla. Pääsimme Galan kanssa matkaan juuri ja juuri, koska koulutus oli ihan myyty loppuun. Onneksi ehdin varata paikan meille, koska Petri ja Arwen eivät enää matkaan mahtuneet. Lisäksi agilitykouluttajana sain hieman alennustakin, joten koulutussessiossa oli siten kannattavaa käydä.

Every Finnish agility enthusiast knows for sure name Kim Kurkinen. Last weekend Oulun Koirakerho organized a training weekend at Haukkukeidas at Evidensia Areena. I was lucky with Galan to get on that course, because it was booked solid. Unfortunately Petri and Arwen were not able to get on that course. In addition, because I am an agility trainer I got a little off the price, so the training session was worth to visit.

Teimme Galan kanssa radasta siniset pallot, koska vielä puhtimme ei riittänyt valkoiseen rataan. Sininen antoi meille sen, mitä kaipasimmekin. / Gala and I did the blue track, because there are still not enough speed for the white track. Blue gave us what we needed.

1. Alussa esteillä 3 - 5 meillä oli hieman ongelmia. Gala tulee kovalla vauhdilla putkesta ja saa minut kiinni ennen estettä neljä ja ehtii juosta esteestä ohitse. Otimme lähdön Kimin ohjeiden mukaisesti siten, että olin lähdössä noin puolessa välillä ensimmäistä putkea (2). Kun lähdin siitä, ehdin mukavasti ottamaan Galan kiinni ja ohjattua hypylle 4 ja putkeen 5. / At the beginning of the track from obstacles 3 - 5, there was a bit of problems. Gala came with high speed from the tube and catched me up before jump 4 and had time to run past the jump because she didn't got the right commend fast enough. Then Kim guided me to go and start from half way of the first tube (2). When I started there, I had time to comfortably take Gala with me and guide her to jump 4 and in to the tube 5. 

2. Toinen ongelma samassa paikassa oli, että Gala tarvitsee laskeutumistilaa eli Gala haluaa, että hypyssä on tilaa laskeutua, jos näin ei ole, hyppyäkään ei tehdä. Monta kertaa hyppy neljä tuli mentyä ohitse ja kurvattua suoraan putkeen 5. Tuon huomattuamme, korjasimme tilanteen saimme tehtyä onnistuneesti hypyn useita kertoja. / Another problem at the same place was that Gala needs a landing area after the jump. 3. Kepeille kaartamisessa hypyltä 10 täytyi ottaa todella tiukka linja. Tein siinä valssin hypyn 10 jälkeen. Sain tehtyä siten kaarroksen todella mukavasti. Galalla on pieni imu aina kepeille, joten se helpotti hommaa. Kepeillä huomasimme sen, että jos kuljen liian hitaasi, Gala hukkaa rytmin suorittaa kepit. Kun ylläpidin vauhtia, rytmi säilyi. Lisäksi meillä oli kolme ohjuria paikallaan - yksi alussa ja kaksi lopussa. Pääsin näin harjoittelemaan parhaiten irtautumista esteelle 12. / From jump 10 to sticks needed very harsh turn so I did waltz there. That way Gala found sticks very easily. She has a bit of a hunger to do them. With sticks, we found that if I walk too slow, Gala looses the rhythm and sticks fail. When I keep up the pace, the rhythm was maintained. In addition, we had three guides in position - one at the beginning and two at the end. That way I was able to train exiting towards jump 12.

4. Esteet 12 ja 13 tuottivat meille ongelmia. Gala on putkiherkkä eli putket ovat hänestä kivoja. Kuitenkin kääntö hypyltä 12 hypylle 13 ja siitä eteenpäin renkaalle 14 olivat vaikeita. Tässä Galalla oli hukassa, mitä minä haluan ja minne haluan mennä. Aluksi opettelimme hitaasti kaarroksen oikealle hypyltä 13 namikupin kanssa. When I corrected my course, so that I ran first towards obstacle 12 and from there to jump 13, Gala flew like a dream. No problems whatsoever. 

Opimme jälleen siis paljon uusia asioita yhteistyöstämme. Suosittelen jokaiselle näitä kursseja, kun ulkopuolinen kouluttaja saapuu vieraaksemme. Omassa koulukunnassamme näämme asiat usein samalla tavalla, ja ulkopuolinen voi antaa siihen tapaan parannuksia. Kiitos siis Kimille koulutuksesta! Oli antoisaa ja mukavaa! / We learn so many new things of our cooperation. I recommend each of these courses, when an external trainer will arrive as our guest. In our own training sessions with familiar coaches we see things often in the same way, but an outsider can provide us lot of improvements. So thank you for Kim of the training! It was a productive and enjoyable!

Olemme muuttaneet! / We have moved!

Aikansa kutakin paikkaa - sanotaan. Kennel Elentarion on muuttanut uusiin maisemiin - Ouluun. Elämä rivitalossa alkoi käydä hieman hankalaksi viiden koiraneidin kanssa, joten tuli aika hankkia isompi asunto. Etsinnän jälkeen oikea löytyi Pohjois-Oulusta. Nyt totuttelemme uusiin maisemiin, uuteen lenkkimaastoon ja ympäristöön. / Different time, different place - it is said. Kennel Elentarion has now moved to a new location - to Oulu. Life in a row house started to feel a bit too difficult with five all grown up shelties, so it came time to buy a bigger apartment. After a long search we finally found the correct one from Northern Oulu. Now we are getting used to our new surroundings, a new terrain for jogs and the whole enviroment.

Pihaa tuli moninkertaisesti enemmän ja aidattuna. Voisi sanoa, että oikein ideaali tälle perheelle. Lisää kuulumisia myöhemmin. OULU KV - Iloisen koiran näyttely 13.8.2016

Viime viikonloppuna kävimme pitkästä aikaa näyttelyssä. Suunnittelin jo kesän alussa, että kävisimme ainakin yhdessä näyttelyssä koko porukalla. Tarkoituksena hakea harraste-H:t Arwenille ja Galalle ja tietysti kokeilla Monan ja Lexien kanssa, josko ERI-polku aukeaisi. Viime kerroilla oli aika haastavaa. / Last weekend it was a show time. I planned in the beginning of this summer that we will attend in one show with the whole group. Arwen and Gala needs those hobby-H's for agility, and of course I have to try to get ERI with Mona and Lexie, if our ERI path could open up. Recently it has been quite challenging.

Oulu KV eli Iloisen koiran näyttely järjestettiin Oulun Äimäraution raviradalla. Olin edellisenä iltana ollut pystyttämässä kehiä ja purkamassa palkintoja. Näyttelyn tekivät paikalliset koirayhdistykset yhdessä, joten senkin takia oli tärkeää mennä maksamaan kannatusmaksu. / Oulu INT aka Joyful Dog's show was held in Oulu Äimärautio racetrack. The previous night I had been there putting it together and dismantling prize boxes. The show is made with local dog associations together, so it was important to go and attend to it.

Lauantaiaamu aukesi kauniisti vesisateisena ja synkkänä. Tiesin, että tästä ei tule kyllä kesää, mutta sinne me suuntasimme Petrin kanssa ja mietimme, onko tässä järkeä. Uutiset Shetlanninlammaskoirien erikoisnäyttelystä Helsingistä olivat samanmoiset. Vesisade oli molemmissa läsnä ja vahvasti. Saavuimme näyttelypaikalle melko hyvissä ajoin ja haimme teltallemme sopivan paikan läheltä kehäämme. Petri laittoi teltan pystyyn sateen piiskatessa meitä ja tavaroitamme. Tunnelma oli todella kostea... / Saturday morning opened up beautifully rainy and gloomy. The atmosphere was really moist ...

Tuomarina toimi Igoris Zizevskis. Harmitti hieman, että viikolla tapahtui tuomarivaihdos juuri kehässämme, mutta tällä mentiin. Se on pelin henki. Mona oli hieman luimuna vesisateesta ja ei todellakaan tehnyt parastaan. Tuloksena oli EH. Koska ERI-tuloksia ei tästä kehästä tullut neljää, kaikki ERI:t ja EH:t pääsivät vielä kerran pyörähtämään kilpaluokassa. Oli hirveä odottaa vesisateessa kilpakehää. Tuuli piiskasi vettä melkein vaakasuorana päällemme, ja kastuimme hiljalleen ihoa myöten. Tulosta ei kilpakehästä tullut, joten juoksin Monan kauhealla vauhdilla takaisin telttaan. / Our judge was Igoris Zizevskis. I was a little bit annoyed that there was a change of judge in our ring. But it is the spirit of the game. Mona was a little annoyed of the rain and do not really do her best. The result was very good aka EH. Because there were not enough ERI results, all the ERI's and EH's were called in the competing ring. It was terrible to wait for it in the rain. The wind whipped the water from almost horizontal upon us, and slowly we got wet all the way down. We just went for a spin in there and after that I ran with terrible pace back to the tent with Mona.

Tässä täytyy sanoa, että onneksi Petri oli pyytänyt Maiju Mertalan ketyksemme tuuraamaan, jos en ehdi nakata Monaa telttaan ajoissa. Petri ja Maiju menivät etukäteen hakemaan trikkityttömme kehään ja lennosta annoin Maijulle näyttelytaluttimeni. Tässä vaiheessa sattui jokin ihmeellinen sekaannus, koska ajattelin, että minulla olisi enemmän aikaa ennen kehää, mutta näin ei ollut. Maiju and Petri rotated the dogs in the ring in the first showing. Fortunately, it went very well, and this didn't backfire for me.

Petri ja Arwen menivät yksilöimään ekana. Petri pääsi kokeilemaan oikeaa näyttelyä ensimmäistä kertaa, ja täytyy sanoa, että mätsärit kutsuvat enemmän tätä paria eli harjoittelua tarvitaan. Petri ja Arwen olivat molemmat sateesta ns. ahdistuneita ja tulos oli sen mukainen - EH. Pian pääsimme Lexien kanssa lentämään kehään. Vettä satoi yhä enemmän ja enemmän. Onneksi Lexie on viilipytty kaikessa tällaisessa ja pyörähdyksemme meni loistavasti. Tuloksena ERI. Tässä välissä juoksin Lexien sylissäni takaisin telttaan. Neiti piti saada lämpimäksi ja kuivaksi, joten pyyhin tassut ja harjasin turkin ilmavammaksi. Odottelimme teltassamme sateensuojassa kilpaluokkaa. / Petri and Arwen went to their invidual showing first. Petri got to test the showing for the first time, and I must say that we need lots of match show's ie. training is needed. I had to get her warm and dry, so wiped her paws dry and brushed her coat airy. We waited for the competing class in our tent.

Kilpaluokka alkoi ja siellä seisoimme taas vesisateen piiskaamana. Lexie seisoi nätisti paikallaan asennossa. Tuomari kävi usein luonamme ja katseli meitä tarkasti. Pian hän aloitti sijoittamisen. Kun lopussa hän huusi, että toinen kohdallamme, olin ihmeissäni. Mitä! Mekö sijoituimme toisiksi! Pian kuulin kehäsihteerin huutavan, että AVK 2. ja SA. Olin innoissani! Juoksin tässä välissä Hennan ja Maijun telttaan kuivaamaan Lexien ja hieman harjailemaan neitoa. Olin iloinen, vaikka olin luihin ja ytimiin asti märkä. Jotenkin en vain välittänyt vesisateesta. Pian PN-kehä alkoi ja siellä seisoimme jälleen rivissä. Tuomari kävi usein luonamme, juoksutti meitä kehässä tiuhasti ympäri. Hän kävi usein luonamme ja tutkimassa meitä. Kun tuomari huusi 3. kohdallemme, olin ihmeissäni! Mitä!?! Kolmas? Sinne kävelimme kolmenneksi ja saimme vara-SERTin kouraamme. Kiitin tuomaria tästä, ja siellä seisoimme. Oli hilkulla serti, mutta ehkä jo ensi kerralla! Lexie oli loistava ja kulki hienosti! / I ran to Henna's and Maiju's tent to get a little bit dry and to brush Lexie. There walked on our place 3 rd and we got res-CC to my hand. I thanked the judge of this, and there we stood. The certificate was close, but perhaps on the next time! Lexie was great and did well!

Pitkästä aikaa, Velho! / Long time no see, Velho!

Kävimme mutkan Raumalla Agipitsissä 22. - 24.7.2016. Samalla meille aukeni mahdollisuus nähdä kasvattimme Elentarion Legolas eli Velho ja hänen omistajansa Piia. Olin odottanut kauan tätä näkemistä, koska viime kerrasta oli kauan aikaa. / We went to Rauma for Agipitsi agility competition at 22nd - 24th of July. At the same time we had the opportunity to see a puppy from our Alfa litter - Elentarion Legolas aka Velho and his owner Piia. I had waited a long time to see him.


Piia ja Velho - Mitä heille kuuluu? - How are they doing?

Velho muutti tosiaan aikoinaan Raumalle Petrin serkun Piian luokse. Pia on ottanut Velhon omaksi mussukakseen, ja huolehtii hänestä erinomaisesti. Velho on kokenut myös elämänsä alkumatkalla paljon, ja kuten toinen kasvattimme Himppu, saa myös Velho kiittää, että hänellä on näin huolehtivainen ja tarkka omistaja. / Indeed, Velho moved to Rauma to live with Petris cousin Piia. Pia took Velho her own, and has taken very good care of him. Velhosta oli kasvanut komea poika - ei turhan iso eikä turhan pienikään. Karva on pitkää ja tuuheaa. Velho liikkuu kauniisti joustavin ja sulavin askelin. Sitä täydentävät upeasti ne kirkkaansiniset silmät, jotka tällä pojalla on. / Velho has grown out to be a handsome boy - not too big and not too small either. The coat is long and dense. Velho moves beautifully with the most flexible and smoothest steps. All in all, he has a reasonably well-proportioned appearance. The head has beautiful lines and is graceful, so there is a lot of beauty and splendor found. All this is complemented wonderfully with those bright blue eyes this boy has.

    

Kun Velho kuuli äänemme pihalta, se juosta sinkaisi luoksemme ja hyppäsi melkein autoon sisälle ja syliini. Ilmeisesti minut tunnettiin vielä hyvin. Siten Velhosta voisi sanoa, että se on todella ystävällinen, valpas ja aktiivinen kaveri. Piia on tärkeä osa Velhon elämää, joten häntä poika totteli ja kuunteli aina. Agilitykilpailuissa Velho meni mielellään silitettäväksi ja rapsutettavaksi, mutta kuten Gala, piti etäisyyden aina halutessaan. Apparently, he knew my voice well. Thus, you might say that Velho is really friendly, alert and active guy. Piia is an important part of the Velhos life, so he obeyed and listened to her at all times. At the agility competition Velho went willingly to people and let them brush him, but like Gala, held a distance whenever he wanted. Velho has a silvery blue coat, splashed with black here and there harmoniously. Perhaps one slightly too large blackish splash on one side, but the general tone blue.

Velhoa oli ihana seurata tyttöjemme kanssa tolskaamassa. Koska neitimme ovat ns. tyttökerhoilijoita, poikaa ei aina oikein mielellään päästetty viereen, mutta kyllä aina ajoittain leikkiä syntyi, kun yhdessä pihalla tolskattiin. Hieman tosin hammaskaluston vertailuksi se meinasi ajoittain mennä. Toivottavasti Velho ei tytöistä kovasti pahoittanut mieltään. Muistan, kuinka Velho oli niin paita ja peppu Galan kanssa aikoinaan. / It was wonderful to follow Velhos behavior around our girls playing. Since our girls are known to team up, boys are not always permitted around them, but there were some playing in the yard occasionally. However, there were some comparison of dental equipment time to time. Hopefully, Velho didn't get too sad. I remember how Velho was so thick as thieves with Gala once.

Tuire Kaimion luennolla 20.5.2016 / Beginner's Guide to Have an Active and Positive Dog by Tuire Kaimio

Kävin viime perjantaina Oulun yliopistolla istumassa Tuire Kaimion luennolla. Aiheena oli koirien leikkikäyttäytyminen. Minua kiinnosti kovasti aihe, koska olen usein miettinyt koiriemme maailmaa, leikkikäyttytymistä eli miksi Viivi tykkää juosta pallon perässä, miksi Mona, Gala ja Arwen rakastavat saalistusleikkiä eli toistensa takaa-ajoa. Tuiren luennolta sain niihin vastaukset, mutta vielä pientä lisätutkimusta pitää tehdä. Tiivistän alle seuraavaksi muutamia huomioita luennolta.

Last Friday I went to sit on Tuire Kaimio's lecture at the University of Oulu. The subject was the behavior of the dogs when they play. I am very interested of that, because I have often wondered, why Viivi likes to run after a ball, why Mona, Gala and Arwen love to chase or pursuit each other. At the lecture I got the answers I was seeking, but still there remain some small questions, so further research needs to be done. Below I summarize few things from the lecture.

Tuire Kaimio: Koirien leikkikäyttäytyminen / Tuire Kaimio: Dogs Play Behavior
Ensimmäinen tunteroinen luennosta meni pohtiessa sitä, mitä leikkisyys on ja mitä sillä tarkoitetaan. Koirien leikkisyys on synnynnäistä ja se ei koirilla katso ikää eli niin pentu kuin aikuinenkin leikkivät. Tuire korostikin, että "kaikenikäisille koirille leikkiminen on tärkeää, mutta nimenomaan pennuille ja nuorille koirille leikkiminen on korvaamatonta.

The first point at the lecture was to ponder what playfulness is and what it means. Dogs playfulness is natural and it is not dependent on age. Tuire pointed out that "playing is important for all dogs, but specifically for puppies and young dogs playing is invaluable."

Toiseksi pohdimme, miksi koirat leikkivät ja mitä koirat saavat siitä. Leikkiminen kehittää koiralla koko kehoa - motoriikkaa, liikemalleja, tasapainoa ja monipuolistaa liikuntaa. Lisäksi koiran psyyke saa siitä paljon hyvää eli kehittää mieltä ja pitää mielen virkeänä. Tuiren sanoin leikkiminen on eri tilanteiden kokemista ja niissä toimimisen harjoittelua. Leikissä koira ajautuu tilanteisiin, joihin se ei välttämättä normaalisti ajaudu. Lisäksi leikkiminen kehittää koiran älykkyyttä ja ongelmanratkaisukykyä. Aikuisille koirille leikkiminen taas antaa stressinpurkua, hermoratojen vahvistusta sekä tietysti kehittää luovuutta, ongelmanratkaisukykyä. Tuire kehottaakin siis, että koirien pitäisi olla toistensa kanssa tekemisissä, sosiaalisissa suhteissa, mahdollisimman paljon. Näin ne oppivat uusia asioita sekä pääsevät harjoittelemaan sosiaalisia taitojaan.

Second, we pondered why the dogs are playing and what the dogs get out of it. Playing dogs get developed throughout the body - motor skills, mobility, balance and diversify their workouts. In addition, the dog's psyche receives a lot of good out of it, improving their mind and keep their mind fit and active. Tuire said that during the play dogs can experience different situations and learn ways to handle those in real life. While playing the dog runs into a situations in which it might not normally drift. In addition, playing develops intelligence and problem-solving skills. For adult dogs playing gives relieve to stress, strenghten nerves, as well as, of course, develops creativity and problem-solving skills. Tuire therefore challenged us to take our dogs to dealings with each other to build up social relationships, as much as possible. This allows them to learn new things and get to practice social skills.

Tämän jälkeen menimme käymään lävitse taitoja, joita koira saa leikin kautta. Näitä ovat esim. metsästyskäyttäytyminen, pakeneminen ja puolustautuminen, sosiaalisuus, pureminen ja seksuaalisuus. Kaikkia näitä harjoitellaan leikin kautta. Mikä on oikea määrä, mikä on oikein ja mikä väärin. Leikin kautta koirat kokevat tilanteet, ja vastapuoli aina opettaa samalla, miten kuuluisi toimia missäkin tilanteessa.

After this we went through all the skills that the dog gets through play. These include for example hunting behavior, escape and defensive behavior, sociability, biting and sexuality. All of these are practiced through play. What is the right amount, what is right and what is wrong. Through play dogs get to experience situations, and the other part always teach, how should they act in that given situation.

Kävimme lävitse myös hieman ikäkausia, milloin leikkiminen on oleellista ja tärkeää, miten sitä tulisi ylläpitää ja mistä huomaa, että koira leikkii.

Tuire oli huomioinut, että:

• N. kolmeviikkoisena pennut aloittavat leikkikokeilut ns. "suulla hamuiluna".
• N. neliviikkoisena puremiseen tulee voimaan, kun hampaiden kärjet ovat puhjenneet. 
• N. viisiviikkoisena nipistely muuttuu leikkitaisteluksi ja vetoleikitkin alkavat, leikkihyökkäyksiä ja tarttumisia on paljon + harjoitellaan alistumista tai liennyttelyä eli omaksutaan aikuisten käyttäymismalleja. Kaiken tämän treenin kautta eleet kehittyvät myöhemmin hienovaraisemmaksi ja toista kunnioittavammaksi.
• N. kuusiviikkoisena ilmaantuvat ensimmäiset merkit seksuaalisesta leikistä. Tämä on yleensä uroksilla yleisempää kuin nartuilla.

We went through all the ages, when the play is essential and important, how it should be maintained and how to notice, when the dog is playing. Tuire had made these notes:

• About 3 week old puppies begin playing. It is more experimenting - ie. searching with the mouth. 
• About 4 week old puppies start biting more and with more force, when the tips of the teeth have erupted.
• About 5 week old puppies move from pinching to a struggle and pulling of the toy starts, they do play attacks and there a lot of adhesions + they practice resignation so they are adopting an adult behavioral models. Overall, through this workout gestures develop later in more sophisticated, and they start to respect each others.
• About 6 week old puppies appear to make the first steps in sexual play. This is generally more common in males than in females.

Kaikki nämä leikit valmistavat koiraa tosielämän tilanteisiin, kun ollaan yhdessä toisten koirien kanssa. Jos koira on saanut olla leikkimässä nuoresta asti, on se sosiaalisestikin lahjakkaampi ja selviytyy monista tosielämän tilanteista ilman vammoja ja ystävystyy myös helposti. Tuiren mukaan jo n. kuusiviikkoinen pentu osaa viestittää leikkisyyttä ja todellista aggressiivisuutta. Vasta reilusti yli puolivuotias voi olla viikon ilman lajitovereittensa seuraa sosiaalisen käyttäytymisen kärsimättä. 

All of these games prepare the dog in real life situations, while being together with other dogs. If the dog gets to play very young, it is more socially gifted and copes better with the many real-life situations without injury - it befriends also easily. Tuire told that a six weeks old puppy is able to communicate and show playfulness and real aggression. Only well over six months old can be a week without play with other dogs without any loss of social behavior.

Tuiren sanoin koiran kanssa tulisi leikkiä 3 - 7-viikkoisena n. 5 - 15 min kerrallaan. Koiranpennut leikkivät aina enemmän - etenkin terveet, lämpimät ja sopivasti ruokitut. 10-viikkoisesta alkaen kaikki sosiaalinen leikki vähenee. Leikin puuttuminen 3 - 9-viikkoisella pennulla on kuulemma vakava merkki. Aktiivisuus ja rohkeus pentuna leikeissä ja muuallakin kertoo paljon koiran käyttäytymisestä aikuisiällä.

Tuire said that you should play with a dog about 5 - 15 minutes at a time when it is 3 to 7 weeks old. Puppies play always more - notably the healthy, warm and properly fed puppies. Starting from 10-week old all social play is reduced. The lack of play in age of 3 to 9-week old puppy is reportedly a serious sign. Activity and courage in play as a puppy and elsewhere tells a lot about a dogs behaviour in adulthood.

Kaikki sheltti-ihmiset siis uusien pentustensa kanssa ehdottomasti ainakin kerran viikossa shelttilenkille! Siellä saa kaltaistaan seuraa, aikuisten seuraa ja oppia leikin kautta. / All Sheltie-people, therefore, when you have a new puppy - definitely at least once a week come to the sheltie run! There may be other puppies, but definedly adults and they can learn a lot through play with them.

Mistä sitten huomaa, että koira leikkii? Kaikki leikkiminen lähtee liikkeelle ns. leikkiin kutsusta eli "leikkikumarruksesta" tai tuijottamiskisasta. Kun seurailin omaa laumaani Tuiren luennon jälkeen, huomasin tätä jokaisella neideistämme. Viivi ei niinkään ollut leikkiin kutsuja useinkaan sisällä, mutta ulkona metsässä se korostui. Lisäksi tiivistä tuijottamista esiintyi myös meidän laumassamme eli varsinkin Mona ja Lexie haastavat aina tosiaan leikkiin metsässä sillä tavalla. 

When you know that a dog is playing? All playing starts from the so-called invitation to play - "play bowing" or active inviting stare. When I viewed my own flock after Tuire's lecture, I noticed that every one of our pack did this when they wanted to start playing. Our oldest one - Viivi - did not do so much those play invitations inside, but she did those more outside when we were at the woods. In addition, close staring appeared in our our pack too - especially Mona and Lexie always were challenging each other to play in the woods.

Kun koira yrittää saada ihmisen leikkimään, se yrittää ensin Tuiren mukaan kiinnittää huomion liioitellulla lähestymisellä. Tällaista käytöstä on mm. töniminen, hyppääminen vasten, lelun tuominen tykö. Tätä tekevät meidän tytöt paljon, jos heitä ei huomata. Lelua kannetaan, tullaan tuijottamaan ja käskemään, käydään tökkimässä. Leikkiä voisimme vaikka koko ajan. Me ihmiset olemme Tuiren sanoin koirien näkökulmasta sosiaalisesti hyvin alkeellisia, siksi tällaisia korostettuja eleitä käytetään. 

When a dog is trying to get a human to play with her or he, they first try to draw attention to them. Tuire said that is happens usually throug an exaggerated approach. Such behavior include tilting, against jumping, toy introductions. Our pack does this a lot, if they are not noticed. They bring a toy around, they stare and bark instructively and do a lot of poking. They could play the whole time. According to Tuire we humans are from the perspective of dogs socially very elementary, therefore they highlight these gestures which they use to contact us or challenge us to play.

Koirat leikkivät myös yksinkin eli esineitä kannellaan tai ympäriinsä sinkoillaan. Tätä on kai ns. "iltavilli" monella perheen ainoalla koiralla. Mona tekee tätä joskus meillä, kun muut eivät ala leikkimään. Neiti voi esim. nakella tikkua tai jotain lelua ilmaan ja napata sen sitten suuhunsa. 

Dogs play alone too - then they usually use toys or just run around aimlessly. This could someone call "evening runs or crazy session" which occurs in many single dog. Our Mona is doing this sometimes, when other dogs in our pack does not play with her. Our little Miss Monster then, for example, throws a stick or a toy around into the air and then catch it with her mouth.

Miten toimii sitten leikkiminen ihmisten kanssa? Tuire kannusti meitä ihmisiä toimimaan kuin toinenkin koira voisi toimia siinä tilanteessa. Kaikki leluleikit, etsimiset, jahtaamiset ovat sallittuja. Pääasia, että sitä tehdään mahdollisimman monipuolisesti eli ei aina oikealla, vaan myös vasentakin puolta tulisi harjoittaa. Joskus koiran tulee antaa voittaa vetoleikki, joskus voitat sinä. Jos leikki menee rajuksi, pitää se ilmaista jotenkin - älähdys, leikin lopettaminen jne. 

How do you play with a dog? Tuire encouraged us people to act as another dog could act in that situation. All the fun toy games, searching, chase are allowed. The main thing is that it is made as versatile as possible, ie not always on the right side, but also on the left side too. Sometimes you should let the dog win the pull or play and sometimes you shouldn't. If the play gets rough, express it some ways - yelp, stop playing or something other what an other dog could do.

Tuire painotti nimenomaan sitä, että oikean elämän käyttäytymissäännöt eivät ole käytössä leikittäessä, toisten huomioiminen, sosiaalisuuden oppiminen on silloin pääasia. Leikki opettaa koiralle paljon. Leikin kautta opitaan myös vieraat ympäristöt helposti. 

Tuire specifically underlined the fact that the behavioral rules of real life are not in use when playing with the others. They are learning sociality, which is the main thing. A play teaches a lot to your dog. Through play you easily get over every fear of different enviroments.

Luento oli todella antoisa ja nautin suunnattomasti Tuiren tarinamaisesta kerronnasta sekä esimerkkivideoista. Kuten luennolla ollut vierustoverinikin sanoin: "Kerro lisää lisää lisää." Mietiskelin aikoinaan, että olinko Alfa-pentueeni kanssa turhankin lepsu, kun annoin heidän telmiä ja tehdä niin isolla alueella vapaasti ja toisaalta myös aikuisten kanssa leikkiä vapaasti. Tämän luennon jälkeen en enää ole sitä mieltä. Alfa-pentue on upea sosiaalinen pentue, jolle leikki ei ole vierasta, sosiaalisuus ei ole vierasta ja asioista innostutaan helposti. Kiitos siis Tuire varmuuteni palauttamisesta!

The lecture was really rewarding and I enjoyed immensely of the story-narrative style of Tuire, as well as all the example videos. As my neighbors in the hall said, "Tell me more more more." I was thinking earlier that I was too loose with my Alfa litter, when I let them run and play in so large area freely and at the same time with adults freely. After this lecture, I do not longer believe so. My Alfa litter is a fantastic social litter to whom playing is a basic skill, sociability is a common language and they get excited easily from everything. So thank you Tuire for giving back my confidence!

 

Muutama vinkki pysyä kiireisenä / Few Tips for Busy Life with Dogs

Kennel Elentarionissa on muutama kuukausi vain oltu ja tehty töitä. Kevät on kiireisintä aikaa niin opiskelijalle kuin opettajallekin, ja se on näkynyt. Keikkatyö Kemissä ja päätyö Oulussa eivät ole helpottaneet arkea. Petrikin on tehnyt niin opintojaan kuin sitten Valmennuskeskuksen opetuksiaan. Onneksi kesä tuli viimein!

Our kennel has live a very quiet life these past few months. All what we have done has been our daily work. Spring is the busiest time as a student and as a teacher, and we really have felt it. Working in two places - in Kemi and in Oulu - has not eased up our daily life. Petri has had his studies and teaching job too. Fortunately, the summer is here - now - enjoy!

Viivi 6 vuotta - Our little Geisha turned 6 years old

Viivi täytti 16.5. 6 vuotta. Nyt esikoisshelttineitimme alkaisi olemaan aikuisen naisen iässä. Turhat pentumaisuudet on karistettu pois (ainakin luulemme niin), ja harrastuksissa keskittymiskykyä voisi olla enemmän. Aika kuluu nopeasti. / Our Geisha - Viivi - turned 6 years old on 16th of May. Now our first sheltie starts to be a full grown sheltie woman. There is no puppy like behavior anymore (or we think so), and when doing things, the concentration is high. Time really flyes...

Agility

Kesäkauden treenit on aloitettu ja pääsimme viimein viime viikolla ensimmäisen kerran kokeilemaan treenaamista. Taukoa pidimme ihan tarkoituksella, että josko kaikki typerä käyttäytyminen unohtuisi. Lisäksi Gala aloitti nyt viimein oikean aksaamisen eli ohjatun treenaamisen. Ensimmäinen kertamme ei ollut helppo, koska samassa ryhmässä on myös Himppu. Alussa tytöt laukkasivat toistensa luokse aina, kun siihen avautui mahdollisuus. Ei ohjaajaa kannata kuunnella.

Summer training season has started and we were able to start them too finally last week for the first time. We took a little break deliberately that if all the silly behavior of ours could be forgotten. In addition, Gala is now finally starting  her road to stardom in agility. Our first time was not easy, because in the same training group we also have our "little" sister Himppu. In the beginning the girls raced over to each other whenever there opened up an opportunity to do so. They didn't listen at all. "Thou shall not listen thou master".

Gala oli kuitenkin aika nopea tyttö oppimaan ja saimmekin tehtyä putki- ja hyppytreeniä hieman. Kovasti pitää tehdä töitä, että saamme neidin edes lähellekään Himpun tasoa. Himppu oli treeneissä kyllä ihan primustavaraa. Oli ihana katsoa neidin menoa kentällä. Vauhtia piisaa, vaikka pieni neitokainen onkin. Samalla mieleeni hiipivät ajatukset Velhosta, ja siitä, kuinka Velhon agilityura etenee. Silmä tai ei, jos koira nauttii hommastaan, sen pitäisi sitä tehdä. Toivottavasti Pialla on ollut aikaa harrastaa. Pia lähettikin muutaman kuvan Velhostamme. Iso poika siitä on kasvanut, vaikkakin pystykorva.

However, the Gala was pretty fast learner and we got the girl in pipe and do couple of jumps after a little workout. There is lot of hard work ahead, so that we can be anywhere near the level of the little lady Himppu. Himppu is so good at it - so good. It was amazing to look at that little girl to do the track. Lots of speed in those little legs. At the same time my mind started to think about Velho, and how Velho's agility is proceeding. Two eyes or one, if your dog enjoys it, then you should do it. Hopefully, Pia has had time to practice agility with Velho. Pia sent some pictures of Velho. Big boy already, although pointy ears...

Lexien kanssa menimme myös treenaamaan samana päivänä. Teemu kävi edellisellä viikolla hieromassa neitiä, ja olimmekin sitten treenivalmiita tämän viikon koitoksiin. Olin yllättynyt, kuinka kivasti meillä meni yksiin. Kun ohjaaja muistaa pitää selkänsä suorana, Lexie ohjautuu nätisti esteille. Puomi ja A menivät todella hienosti, kun askellus menee oikeisiin kohtiin. Lopussa myös keinullekin mentiin omaehtoisesti, eikä enää pelätty. Autoin tosin alaslaskussa kädelläni niin, että tömähdys oli pehmeä, ei kova. Meillä menee yksiin mukavasti. Vauhtiakin tuli lisää, kun nostin tosiaan itseni pystyyn.

With Lexie we had our own training group on the same day. Teemu had massaged our lady in shape the week before, so we were ready to do our workout. I was surprised how nicely we did all. When I remember to keep my backs straight, Lexie goes nicely to the obstacles. Bridge and the A went really well, as long as the contact surfaces are touched correctly. At the end of session the swing was done on her own, and no longer with fear. I helped a bit though when the swing went down, so that the thump was soft, not hard. We have paired up nicely. We have bit more speed, when I lift myself up.

Näyttelyt - Dog Show's

Ilmoitin viimein kesälle tyttösemme ensimmäisiin näyttelyihin. Tyttösillä tarkoitan Monaa ja Lexietä. Lähdemme nyt takaisin näyttelymaailmaan pienen tauon jälkeen. Katsotaan, mitä tulokset tuovat tullessaan. Lexie olisi kiva saada ainakin kahden sertin tytöksi. Monalle taas olisi mukava saada näyttelymaailma auki. Ensimmäinen näyttelymme on siis Muhos kesäkuun alussa. Pidetään peukkuja. Koitamme saada isomman neidin kiinteytymään lihaksistoltaan, joten se tarkoittaa kovaa treeniä vielä kuukauden ajan. Toivottavasti ponnistelumme tuottavat tulosta.

I announced our girls - Lexie and Mona - in the first dog show's for this summer. We're going to back there after a little break. Let's see what the results will bring on our way. It would be nice to hunt down the second certificate for Lexie. To Mona it would be nice to show the dog show world. Our first show is at the beginning of June at Muhos. All of you - keep your fingers crossed. We try to train and enhance Lexies muscles, so it means hard training sessions for her. Hopefully, our efforts are giving results in the summer.

Monan kanssa kävimme harjoittelemassa näyttelyä Kaakkurin mätsärissä Vappuna. Olimme aiemmin harjoitelleet pöydällä olemista, mutta emme sitten sitä juoksentelua niinkään. Siellä pääsimme oikeassa paikassa harjoittelemaan liikkumista kehässä. Monan kanssa hilputtelimme sitten pienten sinisten ykköseksi ja lopulta BIS-kehässä olimme 8. Ihan mukavaa, koska tämä oli ensimmäinen show'mme. Oli ihana saada kisan jälkeen muutamalta tuomarilta kehuja kypsästä pennusta, rohkeasta pennusta ja hyvin rauhallisesta pennusta. Päänuppi on siis kohdallaan neitokaisella, mikä on taas yksi ihana sulka jalostustulevaisuutta ajatellen. (Mukavaa merlepoikaa tai trikkipoikaa siis metsästämään...)

We went to practice show behavior with Mona to Kaakkuri match show on Vappu. We had previously been practicing being on the table, but not the running around so much. There we were in the right place to practice the movement in the ring. With Mona we showed ourselves to number one in small blue ring and finally in Best In Show ring we were 8th. It was really nice, because this was the first time in a show for us. After the show It was wonderful to get praises from some of the judges: what a mature puppy, what a brave girl and what a peaceful puppy. Her head is in a right place, which is another lovely feather to our hat of breeding plans. (We are hunting a nice merle boy or tricolor boy...)

Muuta elämää - The other side

Pohjois-Suomen Shelttien puheenjohtajana toimiminen on alkanut hiljalleen luonnistua. Hallituksemme on ihanan ahkeria tyyppejä täynnä, joten uskon, että syksyllä meillä saadaan monta sulkaa hattuumme tapahtumien myötä. Lisäksi nuorkauppakamaritoiminnassa olemme myös hieman kehittyneet ja huomanneet, mitä haluamme saavuttaa. Petri mm. lähti tavoittelemaan henkilökohtaista kunniaa ja saavutti sen - Sanan Säilä 2015 -voitto ei ole pieni juttu. Edessä kesäkuussa reissu Istanbuliin ja EM-voitto on melkein taskussa. Petrin valmistautumista voit seurata Petri Eklundin tie JCI:n puhekilpailussa -blogissa.

Working as a chairman in Northern Finland Sheltie Club has begun to slowly work out. Our board is full of wonderfully hard-working people, so I think that in the fall we have obtained many feathers in our cap with all those events we are going to have. In addition, working in the Junior Chamber activities, has also given a bit of things and we have found out what we want to achieve. Petri wanted to pursue personal glory and reached it - He is the winner of national speech competition Sanan Säilä 2015. The win was not an easy job, but my man nailed it! In the beginning of June he has a trip to Istanbul to compete in European Championship - I can smell the victory already. You can follow Petri by reading his blog about it. It is in Finnish, but hopefully he will translate it in English too.

Kävimme koko poppoolla taas perinteeksi jo muodostuneella Posion reissulla huhtikuussa. Oli ihana lähteä viettämään muutama päivä hiljaisuudessa. Kiitos taas Eerolle, että hän jaksaa meidän kanssa lähteä sinne. Reissu toi taas mielenrauhaa ja ajatukset saivat levätä. Koirat saivat juosta rauhassa maailmassa, missä ei ollut rajoja. Lisäksi järvi oli jäässä, joten jäällä oli ihana laukata sydämensä kyllyydestä. Varsinkin Mona ja Gala nauttivat ravaamisesta. Oli ihana seurata tyttöjen menoa.

We had our traditional weekend at Posio in April. It was wonderful to go to spend a few days in silence. Thank you again to Eero that he wants to take us with him there always. The trip brought back the peace in our minds and all the stress was taken away. The dogs were allowed to run free in a world where there was no boundaries. In addition, the lake was covered with ice, so ice was wonderful place to gallop with their heart's content. Especially Mona and Gala enjoyed running a round and chase each other. It was wonderful to follow the girls.

Kirjoitin muutama vuosi sitten seuraavat sanat: "Ihminen kokee harvoin irtautumisen tunteita nyky-yhteiskunnassa. Jotenkin kiire ja arjen vauhti tempaisevat mukaansa oravanpyörään, jota voi jarruttaa vain työntämällä jalkansa tai kätensä pyörästä ulos ja toivoa, että mitään ei mene rikki siinä jarrutuksessa. Ympäristö kohahtaa moista tekoa, mutta sinä olet lopulta ainoa, joka nousee pyörästä pois, vaikka selkääntaputtelijoita oli jonoksi asti. Kun katsot taakse, näet, että pyörä lähtee pian samaan vauhtiin ja kukaan ei astunut kanssasi siitä pois. Oma kohtaloni ei ole sama, koska oravanpyörästä hyppäsi ulos myös sydämeni, rauhani ja turvani - Petri." Mitä tulevaisuus tuo tullessaan, sen saamme päättää ja kokea yhdessä. Sanat eivät ole vanhenneet, vaikka aika on kulunut.

I wrote a few years ago the following words: "One rarely experiences the feelings of breaking free in the modern society. Somehow all the hurry and everyday pace snatch you with in to the mouse wheel, which you can only slow down and stop by pushing your feet or hands out and hope that nothing breaks in the process. People around you will look at you with horrified faces, but you are ultimately the only one who will take the step out of the wheel, even though you had around you lots of back patters. When you look back, you will see that wheel soon speeds up and no one came out but you. My destiny was not the same when I stepped out of the mouse wheel, because with me stepped out my heart, my peace and my refuge - Petri". What the future holds, we get to decide and experience it together. Words have not gotten older, even though time has elapsed.

Kun osaa, tulosta syntyy! / When You Have The Skills, It Is Easy

Tervehdys taas kennel Elentarionin maailmasta. Niin se kevät tulee kovaa vauhtia - lumet sulavat ja aurinko lämmittää yhä enemmän ja enemmän. Kesä! Oi! Sitä on odotettu. Tämä ikuinen loskatalvi saisi jo loppua.

Alkuvuoden kennelissämme on kuhissut omalla tavallaan niin positiivisessa kuin negatiivisessakin mielessä. Siitä enemmän kohta. Petri ja minä olemme palanneet agilityn pariin ja kisoissa olemme olleet ahkerasti. Lisäksi yhdistysmielessä olemme toiminnassa ahkerasti mukana eli Hennasta tehtiin Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n puheenjohtaja vuodelle 2015 ja Petri on mukana hallituksessa sihteerin ja taloudenhoitajan hommissa. Lisäksi toivomme, että saisimme yhdessä edustaa Shetlanninlammaskoirat ry:n hallituksessa. Uusi perheenjäsenemme Mona on kasvanut ja kasvanut sekä hampaatkin ovat onnistuneesti poistuneet huolien listoilta. Pian edessä on 6 kk maaginen raja. Toivottavasti juoksut alkavat pian...

At the beginning of this year, our kennel has had both positive and negative news and tales. More about that soon. Petri and I have returned to the agility ring and we have done couple of races. In addition, we have been very actively involved in activities with the local association, because in February Henna was named as a Chairman of the Northern Finland Shelties Association for the year 2015, and Petri is involved in the board as a secretary and financial manager. In addition, we hope that we can be involved in Main Shetland Sheepdog Association's Board of Directors. A new member of our family Mona has grown and grown up, and her teeth have successfully changed. Soon is time for 6 month celebrations. I hope the heat will start soon...

Alfa-pentue - Velho - Elentarion Legolas

Kuten sanoin johdannossa, meille on sattunut niin positiivisia kuin negatiivisiakin asioita kennelissämme. Negatiiviset vievät valitettavasti voiton tässä jaksossa. Alfa-pentueemme ainoa uros Velho on kokenut kovia. Ensinnäkin Velholla oli peitsari, kuten jo aiemmin sanoinkin. Nyt Velho aloitti eräänä päivänä ihmeellisen siristelyn vasemmalla silmällään. Omistaja Pia vei Velhon lääkäriin ja lääkäri totesi Velhon vasemman silmän olevan melkein sokea ja paineet silmässä olivat vaarallisen koholla. Velho sai lähetteen Turkuun Koira-kissaklinikalle. Velho kävi Turussa tutkimuksissa, mutta diagnoosi ei muuttunut - diagnoosina silmäpainetauti eli glaukooma, jonka käynnisti silmätulehdus. Voitte kuvitella oloni, kun kuulin asiasta. Velho on nyt sitten puolisokea. Kaiken lisäksi pieni poikaseni joutuu mahdollisesti loppuelämäksi tippakuurille, että silmissä paineet pysyvät sopivissa mittasuhteissa. Itkin kurjaa tuuriamme.

As I said in the introduction, we have had both positive and negative news in our kennel. Negative news unfortunately take the upper hand of them all. From our Alfa litter, the only male Velho has taken an another physical blow. First of all, Velho had lance tooth, as we have already told. Now on one day Velho began squinting his left eye. Owner Pia took Velho to the doctor and the doctor said that Velho's left eye was almost blind, and the pressure of the eye was dangerously elevated. Velho got remittance to Turku to Koira-kissaklinikalle. Velho went to the studies at Turku, but the diagnosis did not change - diagnosis was eye pressure disease ie glaucoma, which was initiated by the inflammation of the eye. You can imagine how I felt, when I heard of the matter. Velho is now then half blind for the rest of his life. Moreover, my little boy has will be on a lifelong drip regimen, that the eye pressures will remain in suitable proportions. I cried our miserable luck.

Toinen kenneliämme kohdannut huonohko uutinen oli, että Lexiemme on voinut hieman huonosti. Aina rasituksen jälkeen neidistä on tullut todella vaisu ja apaattinen sekä hieman äreäkin. Kävimme tutkimuksissa ja lääkärimme Kamila Bernasiewicz kuvautti sitten Lexien koko selän. Tuloksena oli, että selästä paljastui lieviä muutoksia selkärangassa eli spondyloosimuutoksia Th3-Th4-rintarangoissa. Kokeilimme lääkärin määräyksestä kipulääkekuurin Lexielle. Oman näkemämme mukaan Lexien olo ei muuttunut suuntaan eikä toiseen. Tämän takia päätimme, että emme lääkkeellä jatka hoitamista turhaan. Laitoimme Lexien laihdutuskuurille. Vuoden alussa paino oli 8 kg. Nyt viimeisimmässä mittauksessa paino oli 7,4 kg, joten alas olemme tulleet ja koirasta on tullut energisempi ja tekevämpi. Jopa leikkiminen nuorempien kanssa on alkanut kiinnostamaan. Toivomme siis parasta, että saisimme viettää vielä muutaman vuoden kipuvapaana. 

Another bad news in our kennel encountered with Lexie. We saw that she has been a bit down and ill. Each time after hard exercise our lady had become really pale and apathetic, as well a little cranky too. We took her to examinations and doctor Kamila Bernasiewicz x-rayed Lexie's whole back. The result was that the back of the shoulder revealed slight changes in the spine, ie spondylosis in 3rd and 4th thoracic spine. We tried out prescription pain medicine at first as a course of treatment. After the treatment we saw that Lexie was feeling same - no change in direction or the other. For this reason, we decided that we do not continue the drug treatment. We decided to put Lexie on a diet. At the of the year weight was 8 kg. Now, the latest survey weight was 7.4 kg, so we have come down a lot and the dog has become more energetic and lively. She is even playing with the young ones. We hope, therefore, that we could spend a few more years pain-free.

Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry

Kennelimme omistajista ovat nyt molemmat toimineet Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n puheenjohtajina - Petri viime vuoden ja minut valittiin vuosikokouksessa tälle vuodelle pj:ksi. Edessä on siis paljon uutta omaksuttavaa ja opittavaa. Mielenkiintoista ja otin haasteen mielelläni vastaan. On ihana päästä tutustumaan tällaiseen yhdistystoimintaan paremmin.

Our kennel owners have now both worked as Chairman of the Northern Finland Shelties Associationr - Petri last year and I was elected at the annual meeting this year. We are therefore facing a lot of new information and studies. It is interesting and I will gladly accept the challenge. It is wonderful to obtain access to such association activities.

Tämän vuoden suunnittelut ovatkin päällä suurella tohinalla. Toivottavasti kaikki seurailevat meidän www-sivujamme, mitä on luvassa tänä vuonna. Etenkin pääsiäismätsärit ovat sellaiset, joihin kannattaa saapua paikalle.

This year we are planning a lot of activities. I hope you all are reading our web pages, so you will know what we are doing this year. Especially our Easter Match Show is a one happening that where you should come and attend.

Agility

Olemme tosiaan Petrin kanssa ahkeroineet agilityn parissa. Omilla treenivuoroillamme torstaisin saamme opastusta suoraan ohjaajalta, mutta sitten olemme nyt maaliskuun alusta sijoittaneet omaan vuoroomme ja pyrimme käymään treenaamassa vielä n. 1 - 2 kertaa viikossa lisäksi. Riippuu paljolti ajasta ja voinnista, miten paljon jaksamme treenata.

We have really been busy with Petri in agility. We have our own guided training sessions on Thursdays, where we have a trainer, but then we have rented our own privat time for us to train from OKK and we are trying to go and train on ourselves 1 to 2 times per week in addition. Much depends of the time and how much we have strength to work out.

Viime viikonloppuna kävimme taas kokeilemassa, miltä tuntuisi kisata. Me molemmat, Petri ja minä, teimme kolme rataa. Vielä hieman on hiomista heillä menossaan, että se viimeinen nolla sieltä tulisi ja oikeuttaisi nousun 2. luokkaan. Me Lexien kanssa teimme kuitenkin tulosta taloutemme puolesta eli teimme valitettavat kaksi hylättyä suoritusta perusradoilta, mutta hyppyradalta otimme ensimmäisen 0-tuloksen ja LUVA:n eli luokanvaihtoon oikeuttavan tuloksen. Lisäksi sijoituimme ensimmäisiksi mini-luokassamme. Aikamme oli hurja -10,02 s alle ihanneajan.

Last weekend we went to try out again, how would it be like to race in a real competition. We both, Petri and I, did three tracks - 2 basic and 1 jump. Petri and Viivi have to do little bit more fine-tuning to their co-operation, so they will get that last zero and rise to the 2nd class. We, Lexie and I, however were able to succeed - after two fails on the basic tracks, we took the first 0-result and LUVA ie 1st result which would qualify us to rise to 2nd class. We need 2 more 0-results from basic tracks. In addition, we ranked first in the mini-class ie we won! Our time was rattling -10.02 seconds under the ideal time.

Kun juoksin aiemmin radalla, tuntui, että en pysy Lexien perässä, mutta hyppyradalle kokosin itseni ja päätin rataa läpikäydessäni, miten toimisin tässä ja tuossa kohdassa. Kun kävelimme Lexien kanssa lähtöviivalle, jännitys tuntui kurkussani. Eniten minua pelotti se, pysyisikö Lexie paikallaan. Pylly neidillä irtosi ja jouduimme lähtemään liikkeelle pienellä varastuksella. Ohjasin Lexien putkeen ja lähdin pinkomaan eteenpäin. Lexie suoritti hienosti renkaan ja hypyn. Seuraavaksi oli kaarre kepeille. Varmistin menomme menemällä helpommalle puolelle eli oikealle, koska siitä olisi helppo ohjata koira putkeen. Kun Lexie meni putkeen, lähdin juoksemaan jo seuraavalle. Vedin Lexien perässäni toiseenkin putkeen. Putken jälkeen oli vuorossa vaikein este - PUSSI. Lexie oli aikaisemmin tehnyt sen, että se oli kieltäytynyt suulla muutaman kerran. Vedin Lexien kuitenkin vauhdilla lävitse pussista ja ihmeeni oli suuri - Lexie teki sen! Siitä innostuin ja huusin: "Mahtavaa!" Seuraavaksi kaarsimme hypyille ja hyppyjen jälkeen tei turhankin varmistelevan valssin ennen putkea. Putkesta Lexie kävi suorittamassa oikeassa tahdissa muurin ja hypyt. Hypyltä kaarsimme taas viimeiselle putkelle ja loppusuoralle. Kun Lexie meni putkeen, lähdin kiitämään kohti loppusuoraa. Tuntemus oli, että nyt on tulossa upea tulos. Huusin Lexielle: "Nyt mennään!" Siinä kiidimme sitten yhtä matkaa kohti maaliviivaa ja tuloksena oli 0 - virheetön rata! Huusin onnesta! Otin loppusuoralla irti itsestäni kaikki mehut ja lysähdin maahan maaliviivan ylitettyäni. Jalat lopettivat kantamisen. Tunne oli upea! Usko meidän kahden yhteispeliin palautui. Koppasin Lexien lopulta syliin ja kävelimme kohti häkkiämme. Matkalla ihmiset onnittelivat upeasta radasta. Kun seisoimme palkintosijalla yksi, toiseksi tai kolmanneksi tullut kilpailija sanoi vielä hienot sanatkin, jotka jäivät mieleeni: "Helppoa se on, kun se osaa." En tosin allekirjoita sitä ihan juuri nyt, mutta oikealla asenteella, oikeana päivänä, kaikki on mahdollista.

When I ran on previous tracks, I felt that I did not stay ahead of Lexie, but at the jump track I compiled myself and I decided when I went through the track with others, what steps are appropriate here and there. When we walked with Lexie to the starting line, I felt the tension in my throat. I only thought that Lexie would steal the start. Bum occurred and she stole the start, so we had to move and start the track. I helped Lexie to pipe and went forward to wait her. Lexie carried out well the tire and the jump. Next we had to do a curve to the sticks. I made sure that I would be on the easy side ie on the right side, because from there it would be easy to guide your dog into the next pipe. When Lexie went into the pipe, I ran for the next one. I pulled Lexie to the other pipe. The pipe was followed by the most difficult obstacle for us - THE BAG. Lexie had refused  to go in it in the earlier tracks. I pulled Lexie in to it and however, she went rapidly through the bag - Lexie did it! I was inspired, and I yelled to her: "Awesome!" Next we curved the two jumps and after those I did an unnecessarily waltz before the pipe. Lexie performed it correctly and made to the wall and jumps. After the jumps we had to curve to the last pipe and to the finnish line. When Lexie went into the pipe, I started to run towards the finish line. I acknowledged that we are going to have an amazing result. I shouted to Lexie: "Now let's go!" So we ran together towards the finish line and the result was 0 - flawless track! I cried out of happiness! On the last obstacles I took out of myself all the juices and collapsed to the ground after finish line. My legs literally stopped working. The feeling was amazing! Faith in to our team resumed. After a while I took Lexie finally into my arms and walked towards our cage and seats. On the way, people congratulated us of our magnificent race. As we stood in the pole one of the other competitors said something that remained in my mind: "When you have the skills, it is easy." I do not sign it right now, but when you have the right attitude and the right day, everything is possible.

Perheenlisäystä yllättäen - One dog more, who counts them anyway?

Vuosi 2015 on alkanut. Meidän kennelissämme se alkoi hieman toisella tavalla kuin ajattelimme.
The year 2015 has begun. In our kennel it started a little bit differently than we thought.

Ennen joulua kirjoittelin itselleni uuden vuoden lupauksia seuraavasti:

1. Lähdemme Lexien kanssa agilityssä tavoittelemaan 0-tuloksia ja luokkavaihtoja. Petri Viivin kanssa tekee samaa. Omatoimitreeniaika ostosuunnitelmissa.
2. Gala ja Arwen kasvavat tuossa samalla mukaan agilityharrastukseen eli Gala minun kanssa ja Arwen Peten.
3. Lexien kanssa lähdemme tavoittelemaan näyttelykehistä menestystä kesällä, kun saamme viimein neidin painon oikeaan paikkaan. Dieettikin on sovittuna eläinlääkärin kanssa. MVA kiinnostaa edelleen, ja mahkut siihen on helposti.

Before Christmas I wrote down few New Year resolutions:

1. In agility I will start chasing those 0 results and class exchanges with Lexie. Petri will do the same with Viivi. We are thinking of buying own practice time from OKK.
2. Gala and Arwen will be introduced to agility - Gala with me and Arwen with Pete.
3.  From show rings we start to strive for success in the summer with Lexie, when we finally have our lady on right weight. The vet will help us with our diet plans. MVA still interests me and it is easily possible, when you choose correct place and time.

Ajattelimme Petrin kanssa, että jättäisimme vielä hautomoon nuo kennelhommat, koska vuosi sitten koimme omanlaisemme takaiskun kaikessa. Nauttisimme vain koiristamme ja harrastuksista - keräisimme voimia. Miettisimme, mitä haluamme. Kävikin kuitenkin niin, että Mona Lisan hymy vei eli perheeseemme muutti vuoden alusta uusi jäsen eli Susadan Freya - Mona - kaunis merletyttö.

Petri and I thought, that we put on hold that breeder business for a while, because a year ago we experienced that huge setback with everything. We just put our energy in to our dogs and hobbies - gather up energy together. We think through what we want. However, it turned out, that Mona Lisa's smile took hold of our family and in the beginning of a new year we got a new family member out of Susadan Freya - Mona - a beautiful merle girl.

Mona on tosiaan Pepsin tyttö. Laskimmekin, että olemme pepsiläinen kennel: Viivi on Pepsin tyttö, Lexie on Pepsin tyttö ja Gala sekä Arwen ovat Pepsin tyttöjä toisessa sukupolvessa. Hassua ajatella näin, mutta Pepsi on vain ihana poika. Äitinä Monalla on Lexien entinen kilpasisko Ylva. Taustalla on siis mielenkiintoinen yhdistelmä. Odotukset ovat omanlaisensa - toiveita ja haaveita on monenlaisia. Odottelemme siis rauhassa nyt, miten neiti kehittyy.

Mona is Pepsi's girl. We really have our own Pepsi's kennel: Both Viivi and Lexie are Pepsi's daughters, and Gala and Arwen are Pepsi's girls in the second generation. It's funny to think that way, but Pepsi is just a wonderful guy. Mona's mother is Ylva, Lexie's former "enemy" form the show rings. So Mona's background is therefore an interesting combination. There are of course expectations - hopes and dreams of many kind. So now we just wait in peace, how our little Miss Sunshine develops.

Gala Galadriel

Galalta poistatimme kieroon kasvaneen kulmurin viimein tammikuun alussa. Peitsihammas se virallisesti on. Galan yläkulmuri aloitti kasvunsa loppusyksystä uudelleen kääntäen kieroon alakulmurin. Tuloksena oli aika ankea purenta. Maanantaina konsultoimme eläinlääkärin kanssa asiasta, ja päädyimme poistamaan yläkulmurin. Sieltähän se lekuri sitten ison hampaan poisti ja neiti oli ihan muissa maailmoissa lopun illan. Onneksi poisto onnistui helposti ja mitään kauheita kuonon turpoamisia ei syntynyt. Hieman meinasi pullottaa aluksi, mutta onneksi se meni lääkkeillä päivässä ohitse.

We removed finally Gala's crooked canine tooth in the beginning of this month. It is lance tooth officially. It started growing again in late autumn making the lower canine tooth more crooked. The result was pretty grim bite. On Monday, we consult a veterinarian with the matter, and then we decided to remove the upper canine tooth. Doc took away that big tooth and after it our little miss was unconscious the whole evening. Fortunately, removal was easy, and there were almost none swelling in the nose. That little swelling went away luckily with drugs in a day.

Muu lauma

Muuten kennelissämme menee ihan mukavasti. Elämä hymyilee ja tytöt sen kuin kasvavat. Joulun alla kävi koko sakki peruskuvauksissakin. Kaikilla tytöillä oli priimaa kyynärät ja lonkat - Arwenilla ja Himpulla B/B, Galalla A/A. Velho kävi kuvauksissa uuden vuoden alla, josta kuvat sain eilen. Katsotaanpa ja odotellaan, mitä Kennelliitto niistä sanoo. Tässä alla kuitenkin koko sakin kuvat.

Otherwise all the things in our kennel are quite ok. Life is good and the girls are growing. Just before Christmas, the whole litter was X-rayed. All of the girls had prime elbows and hips - Arwen and Himppu got B/B, Gala got A/A. Velho was X-rayed before new year and those images I got yesterday. Let's see and wait what the Kennel Club says. Here below, however, are X-rayes from the whole litter. 

Päivityksen tarve sivustolle...

Olen tässä mietiskelly, että josko tätä blogia pitäisi päivitellä kohta taas, mutta... Eipä sittenkään. Jätetään suurin homma sitten sinne, kun saamme tuon kennel-asian hoidettua loppuun eli tuleville kotisivuille. Yhdistelin tosin nyt noita alasivuja keskenään eli nyt on Viiville oma alasivunsa ja Lexielle oma alasivunsa. Kauhea jännäri on vielä päällä, milloin saamme virallistaa kennelnimiasian. FCI:n sivuille nimemme oli jo tupsahtanut, mutta uusimmassa Koiramme-lehdessä ei ollut vielä mitään.

 I have thought about updating this blog, but ... no I won't do that yet. Let's leave it to the future after we get that kennel up and running and I'll focus on our new web page. I combined those other pages together so now Viivi and Lexie have their own pages. I am so excited of the kennel thing and when we are able to make it official. FCI's pages had the name already, but Koiramme magazine didn't have it in their list as approved.

Uusi vuosi, uudet kujeet

Niin se vuosi 2012 tuli. Tämä vuosi onkin sitten kaikkea mukavaa täynnä: astutusta, näyttelyitä ja tietysti henkilökohtaisia juhlia. Alkuvuosi on ollut perinteisesti taas aika kylmä ja luntakin on sadellut, joten lumessa olemme päässet myörimään.

So it's year 2012. This year is full of nice things: mating, exhibitions, and of course, personal celebrations. Beginning of the year has been very cold and we got some snow where to play.

Näyttelyt 2012

Tänä vuonna olisi tarkoitus näyttelyttää vielä molempia koiria. Viivi tosin taidetaan laittaa tauolle kokonaan tämän vuoden jälkeen. Meidän pääkeskittymisalue on agility. Siinä haluamme kehittyä todella hyviksi. Lexietä käytämme molemmissa eli näyttelyissä sekä tietysti agitreenaamassa. Tosin viime vuoden loppu ei näyttänyt hyvälle siinä harrastuksessa, koska kiinnostus taitaa olla jotain muuta.

This year we are going to show our both dogs at shows. Viivi though will retire from these things after this year. We concentrate on agility. There we want to become really good. Lexie concentrates on both: shows and agility. However, the end of last year did not went as good as we hoped, because her interest on track seemed to be somewhere else.

Viivin kuulumiset

Viivi aloitti juoksunsa joulukuussa ja neiti astutettiin vuodenvaihteessa Päivi Lillebergin Onnilla (Mystica Linen Mystery Man). Astutus onnistui hyvin, mutta kävimme nyt helmikuun 2. päivä ultrassa ja kohtu näytti tyhjälle. Harmillista, koska tuloksena olisi ollut varsin hyvä ja nopeita agikoiria!

Viivi became in heat on December and our girl mated with Päivi Lilleberg's Onni (Mystica Line Mystery Man) . The mating was successful, but we were at ultrasound now on February 2th and it showed an empty uterus. What a shame, because we could have had a agility litter!

Hieman tämä ko. raskaus jäi mietityttämään, koska päästessään takaisin kotiin Viivi oli niin ahmatti ja kauhean hellyydenkipeä. Neiti lihoikin puoli kiloa. Lisäksi oireina oli kirkas vuoto myöhemmin, joten ajattelimme asian olevan varma nakki. Valitettavasti ultra ei valehtele ja nyt ei käynyt flaksi. Elämä kuitenkin jatkuu.

This thing raised a little question in my head, because when Viivi came back home she was eating heavily and lots and was a very keen to cuddle. Our girl gained even weight about half a kilo. In addition there were some clear bleeding after a while, so we thought it to be sure of thing that she had something in her belly. Unfortunately, ultrasound does not lie, and now we didn't have luck enough. However, life goes on.

Olimme astutuksen takia agi- ja näyttelykiellossa, mutta nyt pääsemme palaamaan normielämään. Viikonloppuna olisi taas epikset, joten ajattelin, että lähtisin Viivin kanssa sitä kokeilemaan. Se olisi varmasti mukavaa tauon jälkeen. Neidiltä saattaisi riittää mielenkiintoa asiaan. Harmi, että on tuota pakkasta, koska muuten harjoittelisimme pihalla muutaman esteen kanssa hyppyjä, kiertoja ja keppejä.

Because of the probably pragnancy, Viivi was on pause from agility and shows, but now we return to the normal to life. Next weekend there is going to be unofficial agility race, so I thought that I would go there with Viivi and give it ​​a try. It would certainly be a nice thing after this brake. Our girl could be interested on that thing. It's a shame that it is so cold outside now, otherwise we would be there doing some practices with few jumps, twists, and sticks.

Lexien kuulumiset

Lexie jatkoi agilityä juoksujen jälkeen. Koska harjoittelu siirtyi taas talveksi halliin, olimme aluksi hieman hukassa. Lexie pelkäsi hallin pimeitä nurkkia + haukkujen kaikumista siellä. Muutama kerta meni ihan pipariksi sen takia alussa.

Lexie continued her agility practices after the heat. Since the training was transferred to the hall again for the winter, we were initially a little lost out there. Lexie feared the dark corners of the hall + all the barking there. A few times went pretty badly, because of those things.

Kolme viime kertaa olemme kuitenkin loistaneet. Koska muutama kerta oli mennyt pipariksi, menin harjoituksiin hieman häntä jalkojen välissä. Ratana oli sellainen hyppyjä ja putkia sisältävä rata. Aluksi ajattelin, että ei tule mitään, mutta yritetään. Agikirjoista viisastuneena jaoin radan neljään osaan, että tekisimme sen aina pätkittäin. Kun lähdimme suorittamaan esteitä, Lexie hyppäsikin ensimmäisen esteen ylitse, sitten toisen ja ohjautui kuin automaatti putkeen vasemmalle. Olin ihan ihmeissäni - ohjaaja sanoikin, että olin kuin halolla lyöty ensimmäisen hypyn jälkeen, että mitä tapahtui. Se kerta onnistuikin sitten mainiosti ja samoin toinenkin. Pakkanen vai sotki viime kerran keskittymistä ja Lexie oli hieman muissa ajatuksissa sen kerran ajan. No, ei voi vaatia. Edelliset kaksi kertaa meni niin hienosti.

Three recent times, however, we have been excellent on the track. Since a few times were so bad, I went to the exercises with my tail between my legs. This time our track had jumps and tubes. At first I thought that we are not going to do well, but let's try. I divided the track into four parts so we could do it in patches. It would be easier that way. They said that I should do it like that, when I read those agility books. When we started to do those obstacles, Lexie jumped over the first hurdle, then another, and directed herself automatically in pipe to the left. I was amazed - the director said that I was like a brick hit me in the head, when Lexie went over the first jump. I couldn't believe it, what was happening. That time we did all perfectly, and then another practices as well. The cold weather messed the last time, Lexie had her thoughts on other things then. Well, we can't have everything. The two previous times went so well.

Kajaani KV 15.1.2012

Kävimme tammikuun puolessa välissä 15.1.2012 Kajaanissa kansainvälisissä koiranäyttelyissä. Tuomarina siellä toimi Mette Tufte, Norjasta. Viivi jätettiin kotiin, mutta Lexie lähti kokeilemaan. Otimme tämän vuoden tavoitteeksi saada se ykkösruusuke: kolme erinomainen-arvosanaa virallisista näyttelyistä.

We went in Kajaani international dog show on mid-january - 15th of January. The judge was Mette Tufte from Norway. We left Viivi at home, but we took Lexie there to try. We took this year's target to get that "Ykkösruusuke": We have to get three excellent grades from official dog shows.

Lexien kasvattaja Lindakin oli Kajaanissa Lexien veljen Mr. Cadillacin kanssa. Hän laittoikin painetta kehään, koska hän oli urosten junioriluokan paras ERI-arvosanalla ja sai vara-sertinkin. Lexiellä ei mennyt yhtä hyvin, mutta tuloksena oli ERI eli erinomainen ja olimme junioriluokan toinen. Arvostelun voi lukea Lexien näyttelytuloksista.

Lexie's breeder Linda was there with Lexie's brother Mr. Cadillac. He gave us some pressure in the ring, because he was the first of males junior class with excellent grade and got reserve-sertificate. Lexiellä did not do as well, but the result was ERI as excellent, and we were on second place in bitches junior class. Judges praise can be read from Lexie's show results .

Henkilökohtaiset uutiset

Henkilökohtaisella rintamalla tämä vuosi on mielenkiintoinen. Vietämme tänä vuonna ensimmäistä hääpäiväämme Petrin kanssa. Lisäksi olemme hakeneet kennel-nimeä Kennelliitolta ja edellisessä Koiramme-lehdessä olikin siitä ilmoitus. Vielä menee siis aikaa, että saamme oman kennelimme pystyy, mutta kaikki ajallaan. Kauhea hinku on jo perustaa sivusto, mutta vielä ei voi.

On a personal front, this year is interesting. We will have our the first anniversary with Petri. We have applied the kennel name from Finnish Kennel Club and last issuo of Koiramme our name application was declared. Yet it will take time before we can own kennel, but all happens on time. I have already a terrible urge to set up a website.
