OULU KV - Iloisen koiran näyttely 13.8.2016

Viime viikonloppuna kävimme pitkästä aikaa näyttelyssä. Suunnittelin jo kesän alussa, että kävisimme ainakin yhdessä näyttelyssä koko porukalla. Tarkoituksena hakea harraste-H:t Arwenille ja Galalle ja tietysti kokeilla Monan ja Lexien kanssa, josko ERI-polku aukeaisi. Viime kerroilla oli aika haastavaa. / Last weekend it was a show time. I planned in the beginning of this summer that we will attend in one show with the whole group. Arwen and Gala needs those hobby-H's for agility, and of course I have to try to get ERI with Mona and Lexie, if our ERI path could open up. Recently it has been quite challenging.

Oulu KV eli Iloisen koiran näyttely järjestettiin Oulun Äimäraution raviradalla. Olin edellisenä iltana ollut pystyttämässä kehiä ja purkamassa palkintoja. Näyttelyn tekivät paikalliset koirayhdistykset yhdessä, joten senkin takia oli tärkeää mennä maksamaan kannatusmaksu. / Oulu INT aka Joyful Dog's show was held in Oulu Äimärautio racetrack. The previous night I had been there putting it together and dismantling prize boxes. The show is made with local dog associations together, so it was important to go and attend to it.

Lauantaiaamu aukesi kauniisti vesisateisena ja synkkänä. Tiesin, että tästä ei tule kyllä kesää, mutta sinne me suuntasimme Petrin kanssa ja mietimme, onko tässä järkeä. Uutiset Shetlanninlammaskoirien erikoisnäyttelystä Helsingistä olivat samanmoiset. Vesisade oli molemmissa läsnä ja vahvasti. Saavuimme näyttelypaikalle melko hyvissä ajoin ja haimme teltallemme sopivan paikan läheltä kehäämme. Petri laittoi teltan pystyyn sateen piiskatessa meitä ja tavaroitamme. The atmosphere was really moist ...

Tuomarina toimi Igoris Zizevskis. Harmitti hieman, että viikolla tapahtui tuomarivaihdos juuri kehässämme, mutta tällä mentiin. Se on pelin henki. Mona oli hieman luimuna vesisateesta ja ei todellakaan tehnyt parastaan. Tuloksena oli EH. Koska ERI-tuloksia ei tästä kehästä tullut neljää, kaikki ERI:t ja EH:t pääsivät vielä kerran pyörähtämään kilpaluokassa. Oli hirveä odottaa vesisateessa kilpakehää. Tuuli piiskasi vettä melkein vaakasuorana päällemme, ja kastuimme hiljalleen ihoa myöten. Tulosta ei kilpakehästä tullut, joten juoksin Monan kauhealla vauhdilla takaisin telttaan. / Our judge was Igoris Zizevskis. I was a little bit annoyed that there was a change of judge in our ring. Tässä täytyy sanoa, että onneksi Petri oli pyytänyt Maiju Mertalan ketyksemme tuuraamaan, jos en ehdi nakata Monaa telttaan ajoissa. Petri ja Maiju menivät etukäteen hakemaan trikkityttömme kehään ja lennosta annoin Maijulle näyttelytaluttimeni. Petri ja Arwen menivät yksilöimään ekana. Petri pääsi kokeilemaan oikeaa näyttelyä ensimmäistä kertaa, ja täytyy sanoa, että mätsärit kutsuvat enemmän tätä paria eli harjoittelua tarvitaan. Petri ja Arwen olivat molemmat sateesta ns. ahdistuneita ja tulos oli sen mukainen - EH. Pian pääsimme Lexien kanssa lentämään kehään. Vettä satoi yhä enemmän ja enemmän. Kilpaluokka alkoi ja siellä seisoimme taas vesisateen piiskaamana. Lexie seisoi nätisti paikallaan asennossa. Tuomari kävi usein luonamme ja katseli meitä tarkasti. Pian hän aloitti sijoittamisen. Juoksin tässä välissä Hennan ja Maijun telttaan kuivaamaan Lexien ja hieman harjailemaan neitoa. Olin iloinen, vaikka olin luihin ja ytimiin asti märkä. Jotenkin en vain välittänyt vesisateesta. Pian PN-kehä alkoi ja siellä seisoimme jälleen rivissä. Tuomari kävi usein luonamme, juoksutti meitä kehässä tiuhasti ympäri. Hän kävi usein luonamme ja tutkimassa meitä. Kun tuomari huusi 3. kohdallemme, olin ihmeissäni! Mitä!?! Kolmas? Sinne kävelimme kolmenneksi ja saimme vara-SERTin kouraamme. Kiitin tuomaria tästä, ja siellä seisoimme. Oli hilkulla serti, mutta ehkä jo ensi kerralla! Lexie oli loistava ja kulki hienosti! / I ran to Henna's and Maiju's tent to get a little bit dry and to brush Lexie. There walked on our place 3 rd and we got res-CC to my hand. I thanked the judge of this, and there we stood. The certificate was close, but perhaps on the next time! Lexie was great and did well!

Mistä meidät löytää? / Where to find us?

On taas tullut aika päivittää asioita tänne meidän blogiimme. Elämä on joskus hiljaista ja mitään ei tapahdu - tai tapahtuu, mutta kauhealla vauhdilla. Työkiireiden ja kaiken muun sekamelskan takia aika kuluu siivillä. Kesä on ollut hyvin rauhallista aikaa näyttelyineen ja agilitykilpailuineen. Lisäksi olemme ehtineet hieman nautiskellakin ja ottaa rennosti. Syksykin on hurahtanut ihmetellessä asioita. Kasvattajan näkökulmasta on ollut ihana seurata Monan kasvua, toisaalta oppia uutta edellisen pentueemme tyttösistä. Sheltti on upea koira - sen on huomannut tänä vuonna niin monella tapaa.

It is again time to update things from our world here to our blog. Life is sometimes quiet and nothing will happen - or happens, but with a terrible pace. Due to the pressures of work and everything else the time flies. Summer has been very restful time with some dog shows and agility competitions. In addition, we have been able to enjoy a little bit and take it easy. Autumn has been the time for wondering about things. From breeder's point of view, this time has been wonderful. I have had lots of time to follow Mona's growth, on the other hand to learn new things out of our girls from previous litter. Sheltie is gorgeous and wonderous dog - I have noticed this in so many ways.

Puheenjohtajana Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:ssä

Tänä vuonna olen toiminut puheenjohtaja Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:ssä. Mukanani toiminnassa ovat olleet upeat hallituslaiseni. Heidän kanssaan on ollut ihana tehdä töitä ja saan kiittää heitä paljosta. Tänä vuonna tehokkaimmaksi ajaksi voisi katsoa nimenomaan kesän ja syksyn. Keväällä teimme ns. kurssitoimintaa, ja harjoittelimme yhteistyötä hallituslaisten kanssa. Kesä meni suunnitellessa syksyä ja syksyllä toteutimme paljon. Teimme yhdessä Shetlanninlammaskoirat ry:n kanssa sivuerikoisnäyttelyn Nallikarissa, järjestimme agilityviikonlopun yhdessä kouluttajamme Iina Asunnan kanssa, järjestimme luonnetestin Haukiputaalla sekä vielä suuren suuren match show'n Oulunsalossa Kalakaverin kanssa. Mukana oli ihania ihmisiä, joiden panosta edelleen arvostan niin suuresti. Siten olenkin tässä vuoden aikana kypsytellyt mielessäni ajatusta, että voisin jatkaa ensi vuoden puheenjohtajana, jos yhdistysläiseni näin haluavat. Toimintaa olisi mukava kehittää nyt entisestään. Saada siihen pysyvyyttä ja selkeän rungon.

This year I have served as Chairman of the Northern Finland Shelties Association. With me in action there has been a spectacular board of members. With them I have had the pleasure to work with and I truly like to thank them for that. This year, the most effective period of time has been the summer and the autumn. In the spring, we made the so-called course activities and practiced the new job at hand together. Summer went into designing the autumn and in the autumn we carried out a lot. We worked together with The Finnish Shetland Sheepdog Association and did a side special exhibition at Nallikari, we organized an agility weekend, together with the trainer Iina Asunta, we organized a nature test for dogs in Haukipudas, and yet we did a great great match show in Oulunsalo with Kalakaveri. There were wonderful people, whose input I still appreciate so much. Thus, I have been thinking about it a lot, and I think that I would like to continue as chairman next year, if other members wish so. It would be nice to develop our association further - make the organization stabile and build a clear frame to it.

Mona - Susadan Freya

Mona täytti syyskuussa 1 vuotta. Niin tämä meidän neitokainen kasvaa. Täytyy sanoa, että tytöstä on kasvanut varsinainen kaunotar niin mieleltään kuin ulkonäöltään. Harmillisinta tytössä on koko, mutta se olkoot hyve, kun ajattelemme jalostuksellisia tavoitteitamme.

Mona celebrated her first birthday in September. So this is how fast our young lady grows. I must say that the girl has grown to be an actual beauty queen - in mind as in appearance. One fault which I hate is the size, but I will let it be a virtue, when we think of the breeding goals.

Kesällä kävimme Monan kanssa muutamassa näyttelyssä (Ylivieska, Oulu, Muhos), mutta meitä rankaistiin aina koosta. Se hieman jäi harmittamaan, ja siksi emme käyneetkaan kovin monessa näyttelyssä. Annamme neidin kehittyä - tosin tuskin se tuomareiden ajatus koosta muuttuu edes iän mukana. Seuraavana mielessä jalostuksellisesti tietysti silmä-, lonkka-, polvi- ja kyynärkuvaus. Jos niistä saamme vihreää valoa, alkaa todellinen metsästys poikakaverille.

In the summer we went to few shows with Mona (at Ylivieska, Oulu, Finland and Muhos), but we were always punished for our size. It was a little bit disappointed, and that why we did not do so very many shows. We let our little lady to evolve - although hardly the ​​judges will not change their opinion about the size, even with age. The next obstacle before breeding are of course the eye, hip, knee and elbow x-rays. If we get the green light, we will begin the actual hunt for groom.

Mona aloitti syksyllä myös agilityn alkeet Petrin kanssa. Heillä tuntuu toimivan tuo yhteistyö hyvin ja Mona näyttää nauttivan siitä tekemisestä. Hieman korkeat paikat pelottavat, mutta se on ihan normaalia pienelle pennulle. Kaikkeen tottuu treenin myötä.

Mona began the agility with Petri this autumn. They seem to hit it off well and cooperation works well with Mona. Our little girl seems to enjoy it. High places seems to be frightening, but it is quite normal for a small puppy. She will get used to it after time and training.


Viivi - Dash'ing Glamourous Geisha

Viivi nousi kuin nousikin 2. luokkaan kesän lopulla. Petri on yrittänyt pitkään nollaa, mutta aina se on jäänyt pienen virheen taakse (kerran jopa virheettömästä suorituksesta ei saatu nollaa). Petri on treenannut neitiä todella paljon koko kesän ja yhteistyö alkoi lopulta toimia. Harmillisesti Petri loukkasi jalkansa, ja jalka jouduttiin kipsaamaan. Tämä tarkoitti pientä taukoa kisaamisesta. Henna sitten otti ohjat käsiin ja viimeisteli kesken jääneen työnsä eli nosti neidin kakkosiin, että Petri pääsee puhtaalta pöydältä tekemään tulosta. Upeasti neiti liitelikin, vaikka hieman hakemista olikin. Ohjaajalla ei vain vauhti meinannut pysyä päällä.

Viivi rose to 2nd class at the end of the summer. Petri has been trying for a long time to get the last zero, but always there has been a little mistake on the track (once even a flawless performance was not a zero). Petri has been working out a lot with Viivi this summer, and their co-operation has developed a lot during the summer. Unfortunately Petri hurt his leg, and the leg had to be plastered for two weeks. This meant a small break from racing. Henna then took the lead and finished her unfinished work with Viivi and lifted her to 2nd class so that Petri can start from clear table. On track Viivi exquisitely flew, although there were a bit more searching that with Petri. The pilot had a hard time to keep up with the dog.

Lexie - Kråkeslottets Miss Lexus

Lexien kanssa on ollut hieman hankalaa ja taistelua, vaikkakin agilityhommat ovat hiljalleen alkaneet rullata eteenpäin. Neidistä on vaikka mihin, mutta ohjaajasta ei. Ohjaaja tuntee olonsa todella huonokuntoiseksi ja ylipainoiseksi. Haaveena olisi talvikaudella saada pois painoa. Sitten olisimme terveempi tiimi. Nyt tuntuu jotenkin, että molempien jaksaminen hidastaa meidän hommaa. Yritämme keksiä keinoja saada asia kuntoon.

With Lexie we have had a little bit difficulties and struggle, although agility has slowly begun to roll forward. Our little lady has it in her, even though the pilot does not. Pilot feels really unfit and overweight. Our dream would be during the winter season to lose the extra weight. Then we would have a healthier team. Now I feel somehow that our both endurance slows our development. We are trying to come up with a plan how we are able to win this fight.

Näyttelyissä Lexie selvisi kesällä keskinkertaisesti. ERI-linjalle pääsimme takaisin kesän viimeisissä näyttelyissä, mutta jokin Lexiessä on, mikä ei tuomareiden silmää miellytä. Sitä pyrimme nyt hakemaan. Ehkä laihduttaminen antaisi neitiin uutta eloa.

In shows Lexie survived the summer averagely. We got back to EXC-line in the last summer's exhibitions, but there seems to be something in Lexie, which doesn't meet the eye with judges. We now try to find it out, what that may be - weight, movement? 

Gala ja Arwen - Elentarion Galadriel ja Arwen Undomiel

Gala ja Arwen ovat koko kesän juosseet mukanamme agilitytreeneissä. Kehitystä on tapahtunut, vaikkakin takapakkiakin on tullut. Saimme molemmille talvitreenipaikankin, joten olemme nyt kehittyneet huomattavasti. Arwen ja Petri ovat loistavia, samoin Hennalla ja Galallakin on alkanut luistaa homma. Tytöt kehittyvät valtavasti koko ajan. Heidän luontaisia vaistojaan moneen asiaan on ihana seurata. Toisaalta molemmilla heistä on todella kylmä pää moneen asiaan eli mikään ei kauheasti pelota kumpaakaan. Galan bravuureita on irtoaminen. Kun Lexie on kiinni aina ohjaajassaan, Gala on ihan päinvastoin. Voin sanoa kentän toiselta laidalta puomin ja neiti juoksee sinne. Aika hienoa?

Gala and Arwen have run throughout the summer with us in agility training. We have made a lot of progress, although there have been few setbacks. We got groups for both in winter training, so we have now evolved considerably. Arwen and Petri are great, as well Henna and Gala have found the same language. Girls develop tremendously all the time. Their natural instincts to many things is wonderful to follow. On the other hand both of them are very cool-headed. There are not so many things they are afraid of. Gala is good at independent work. When Lexie is close or near the pilot, Gala is just the opposite. I can say from the other side of the track "a bridge" and Gala runs and does it. Sounds great, does it?

Arwen osoitti liitotaitoja tuossa aikaisemmin syksyllä. Petri ja Arwen harjoittelivat A-kontaktia. Arwen juoksi A:n muutaman kerran ylitse normaalisti, mutta sitten alkoi neiti hieman kuumentua. Seuraavaksi A juostiin vauhdilla, ponkaistiin korkeimmalta kohdalta ilmaan niin, että liito jatkui n. 2,5 metrissä kauas A:sta. Alas tultiin tietysti vetovoiman mukaisesti, ja säikähdimme Petrin kanssa molemmat, että neiti hajottaa itsensä. Niin ei käynyt, vaan A:lle piti päästä uudelleen. Arwen showed off her flying skills in the autumn. Petri and Arwen practiced the A-contact. Arwen did the A over a couple of times normally, but then she started run a bit hot. Next time she speeded up the A, and then at the highest point of the A, she jumped in the air, so that she continued to fly in the air - about in 2.5 meters - away from the A. Then she dropped down from there, and we were both startled with Petri that she must have broken something when she hit the floor. This did not happen, but she went towards A like nothing happened. We christened her "reikäpää" - our little flying black girl.

Elämänviisauksia / Facts About Happy Life

Pentueemme täytti viimein 6 kk 2.5. Jotenkin sitä ei koskaan uskonut näiden saavuttavan ko. ikää, mutta ihme tapahtui. Kiitos edelleen suuresti Tuijalle, joka auttoi meitä silloin, kun hätä oli suurin. Nämä 6 kk ovat olleet todellakin ihmettelyn aikaa. On ollut upeaa seurata näiden pienokaisten kasvua, tutustumista maailmaan, erilaisiin ihmisiin ja kaikkeen ympärillään. Toisaalta tämä on ollut myös hyvin raskasta aikaa eli tulevaisuudessa ei ole kuin aina yksi pentu kotona kasvamassa. Ei koskaan enää kahta samaan aikaan. Syynä on esimerkiksi sisäsiisteyskasvatus, käytöstavat, ruokailut ja kaikki muu mukava - niihin on käytettävä tuplasti enemmän aikaa. Jos yksi pentu oppii sisäsiistiksi 3 kk ikään mennessä, toivottavasti nämä olisivat sisäsiistejä 7 kk ikään mennessä...

On 2nd of May our Alfa litter had its 6 month birthday. Somehow, I never believed back then that this lot will reach this age, but a miracle happened. I truly thank Tuija again, who helped us when we needed the help most. These six months have been really amazing time. It has been wonderful to watch these little ones growth, exploring the world and all kinds of things and people around them. On the other hand, it has also been a very difficult time. In the future we will not take two puppies at home at the same time. Never again two at the same time. The reasons are, for example, indoor toilet training, manners, meals, and all the other nice things related - they use twice as much time in all of those. If one puppy can learn house-traided in 3 months, hopefully these two would be house-trained by the age of 7 months...

Pentusemme - Arwen Undomiel ja Galadriel

Tyttösemme, Arwen ja Gala, ovat nyt n. 33 cm korkeita ja painavat 6 kiloa kappale. Eli jäämme hieman alamittaisiksi. Kaikki tosin sanovat, että eipä sitä tiedä, mutta semmoista se on. Alkutaipaleen kamppailu verotti kuitenkin kasvua, vaikka aluksi ei näyttänytkään siltä.

The girls, Arwen and Gala, are now about 33 cm high and weigh 6 kg each. So, they will be a little undersized. Everyone says that we do not know it yet, but this is the reality liked we it or not. Because we had those struggles at start, it must have taken a toll on growth, even if at first it did not seem that way.

Millainen pentu Gala on? - What kind of puppy is the Gala?

Jos Galaa pitäisi kuvata jollakin tavalla, olisi Gala sellainen ilopilleri. Gala on aina iloinen, aina lähdössä mukaan kaikkeen ja hyvin hyvin aktiivinen. Gala kiusailee koko sakkia siten, että mustat ovat varmasti kimpussa viimeistään metsässä ja antavat neidille kunnolla köniin. If I had to describe Gala in some way, I would say that she is a happy pill. Gala is always happy, she is always ready for everything and she is very very active dog. Gala teases the whole gang all the time. So our blacks gang up and give Gala a proper fight back when we go to forest to run free. Gala however with her long legs can accelerate in such a pace, that the catchers must seriously run. Only Viivi is able to get alongside her, but others catch her only by biting her tail. Gala is my own little pumpkin, with whom I will go and try to do agility when the time is right. The speed is Gala's middle name, so we'll see how we can use it. The speed of the wind Gala has apparently inherited from her father Vind.

Keholtaan Gala on todella upea ja sopusuhtainen. Kaula on upean pitkä, jota korostaa valkoinen kaulus. Kulmaukset ovat hyvät, jotka antavat Galan keholle sen ryhdin ja vauhdin, jota koira tarvitsee. Galas body is a truly stunning and well proportioned. The neck has a great length of which a white collar supports. She has good angulations, which provide the great posture and the speed what a dog needs. When these parts are in right place, pace and endurance can be found. Her face is a beautiful with those tan signs and spots. Merle color could be bluer, but the coat has a great color, it is smoothly mottled, like a good merle should be. I am thinking of taking her to a few shows that we know what kind of girl she really is.

Jos Gala oli vauhtityttö, Arwen on haaveilija. Arwen on ottanut paljon emostaan eli on hyvin omapäinen, omistava ja nousemassa hiljalleen tämän lauman valtiaksi Lexien jälkeen. Arwenilla on sitä rohkeutta haastaa isommat, joten aina, kun on mahdollisuus, sen se neiti tekee. Arwen on myös hyppijä ja loikkija, jonka ei välttämättä tarvitse koskea maahan, kun hän vaihtaa paikkaa olohuoneessa. Sama hyppiä sohvalta nojatuoliin ja takaisin. Eli jos Gala on juoksukuningatar, Arwen on hyppykuningatar. Tämäkin on varmaan peritty isäktä Vindiltä.

If Gala is a girl with a speed, Arwen is a dreamer. Arwen has taken a lot from her mother - she is a very headstrong, owning and rising slowly higher and higher in this flock, but not over Lexie. Arwen has the courage to challenge the bigger ones, so every time she has a chance to do so, she will not miss it. Arwen is also a leaper and a jumper, she does not have to necessarily touch the ground when she changes her place in the living room. She can jump on the couch and to the chair and back. So, if Gala is the Queen of running, Arwen is the Queen of jumping. Again, this is probably inherited from her dad Vind.

Keholtaan Arwen jenkkimäisen tanakka eli turkki on todella tuuhea ja runsas. Naamassa näkyy jenkkimäinen ilme eli ei niin kaunis ja siro kuin Galan pää. Tan-merkit antavat ilmeelle paljon ja neiti on todella kaunis. Kaula saisi olla pidempi, mutta muuten keho on kiva kokonaisuus - sopusuhtainen. Kulmaukset voisivat olla myös hieman paremmat, koska niiden takia kävely on hieman sellaista tepsuttelua. Kaunis neiti on kuitenkin ja hänetkin olisi tarkoitus viedä näyttelyyn tutkittavaksi, että tiedämme, mitä neidistä sanotaan.

Arwen's body is a more american than european. Her coat is really thick and rich. On her face there is a bit of an american look, so the face ain't as beautiful and graceful as the Gala's head. Tan markings give a lot to the expression and she is really pretty. The neck could be longer, but otherwise the body is a nice package - a well-proportioned. Angles could also be slightly better, because they reflect in walking. She is a beautiful lady however, and she too I will take to a few shows, that we know what they say of her really.

Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:llä hommissa

Koska Petristä tuli nyt Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n puheenjohtaja, tarkoittaa se erilaisia vastuita tuoda yhdistys esille ja olla mukana toiminnassa.

Since Petri became the chairman of the Northern Finland Sheltie's Association, it means a different kind of responsibilities to bring the association known and be a part of the action.

Oulun Koiramessuilla 3. - 4.5. - Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n hallitus oli päättänyt osallistua Oulun Koiramessuille, jotka järjetettiin Haukiputaalla. Petri ja minä olimme Smartteamsin porukan kanssa sitä pistämässä pystyyn. Siellä seisoskelimmekin viikonlopun ja teimme ihmisille tutuksi shelttiä. Mukanamme olivat meidän kaksi pientä palleroamme ja Lexie. Moni ajatteli sheltin nähdessään, että ne ovat sellaisia haukkukoneita. Nähdessään Galan ja Arwenin moni ihmetteli, miten nämä koirat voivat olla näin rauhallisesti täällä kaiken hälyn keskellä. Meiltä kysyttiin mm. seuraavia asioita rodustamme: ”Haukkuuko sheltti paljon?” ”Miten sheltti tulee toimeen lasten kanssa?” ”Ai, eikö sheltti kasvakaan tuota isommaksi?” ”Pitääkö sheltin kanssa harrastaa koko ajan jotakin?” ”Paljonko sheltti maksaa?” ”Ovatko nuo myytävänä?” Oli ihana rikkoa myyttejä, ja toisaalta oli antoisaa nähdä ihmisten reaktiot, kun he näkivät kasvattimme ständillämme. Koiramessut olivat antoisa kokemus. Oli ihana tutustua erilaisiin ihmisiin, vastailla heidän kysymyksiinsä ja tiedusteluihinsa. Lisäksi pääsimme Rantapohjaan, koska paikalle sattui eräs tuttu reportteri juuri oikeaan aikaan.

Oulu Dog Fair 3. - 4.5. - Northern Finland Shelties Association's Board decided to participate in Oulu Dog Fair, which was held at Haukipudas. Petri and I were there with Smartteams people to arrange it. We stood there the whole weekend and we made shelties familiar to the people. With us were our two little ones and Lexie. Many thought when seeing a sheltie that they are some kind of barking machines. After seeing Gala and Arwen many wondered how these dogs can be so calm here in the middle of all the noise. We were asked a lot of questions, and here are few of them: "Does sheltie bark much?" "How sheltie gets along with the kids?" "Oh, sheltie doesn't grow any bigger than that?" "Do you have to do things with sheltie all the time?" "How much does a sheltie cost?" "Are those for sale?" It was wonderful to break the myths, and on the other hand it was rewarding to see people's reactions when they saw our dogs in our stand. Dogs fair was a rewarding experience. It was wonderful to get to know different kind of people, to answer their questions and requests for information. In addition, we were able to get in a local paper, because we had a visit from a well-known reporter at the right time.

Äitienpäivän match show 11.5. - Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry järjesti perinteisesti mätsärit äitienpäivänä. Tänä vuonna ne järjestettiin Muskettikoiran pihassa Maikkulassa. Vaikka päivä oli hieman kolea, tuli paikalle kuitenkin ihan mukavasti ihmisiä ja saimme pidettyä leikkinäyttelyn mukavissa merkeissä. Meillä oli niin arpamyyntiä, makkaroita ja lettuja, joten sivutoimintaa oli myös näyttelykehien lisäksi. Päivä oli mukavan rento ja leppoisa, koska sitä tekemässä olivat mukavat tyypit. Tästä oli kiva kerätä kokemusta, koska olisimme Peten kanssa kesäkuun alussa menossa mätsäreihin tuomareiksi.

Mother's Day match show 11.5. - Northern Finland Shelties Association organized the traditional match show on Mother's Day. This year it was held in the yard of Muskettikoira at Maikkula. Although the day was a bit chilly, a lot of people came there and we were able to arrange a nice unofficial exhibition. We had a great group doing it there, so it was really fun to do everything. It was nice to get this experience, because Pete and I are going to be judges in a match show in the beginning of June.

Agilityä

Teimme nyt keväällä raskaita päätöksiä perheessämme. Petri päätti aloittaa agilityn ja mietimme koiraa, jonka kanssa Petri sitä harrastaisi. Aluksi ajattelin antaa Petrille Lexien, mutta Viivin reaktion nähtyäni teimme kuitenkin niin, että Lexie olisi minulla ja Viivi menisi Petrille. Kävimme nimittäin talvella treenaamassa kerran, ja Viivi oli niin Petrin perään radalla, että päätin luovuttaa. Lexiellä ja minulla on haasteita voitettavana, joten me jatkaisimme treenaamista yhdessä, kun taas edistynyt ja kisavalmis Viivi antaisi paljon Petrille helpotusta, kun mies harjoittelee tekniikoita ohjaamisessa.

We made some difficult decisions in the spring. Petri decided to begin agility and we thought about which dog should he take. At first, I thought of giving Lexie to Petri, but after seeing Viivi's reaction when she saw what he did with Lexie, I decided to give Viivi to Petri and I will train with Lexie. We went training once in the winter and Viivi was so after Petri on the track, so I decided to give her up. Lexie and I have challenges to overcome, so we should continue our training, while Viivi (advanced and ready to race) would give a lot of help to Petri, when he is practicing the techniques in controlling a dog on a track.

Haimme kesätreenipaikat OKK:lta koirillemme ja saimmekin ne samasta ryhmästä. JEE! Petri treenaa siis Viivin kanssa ja minä Lexien kanssa. Treenipäivämme on keskiviikkoiltaisin. Olemme myös suunnittelemassa muutamaa omatoimitreenikertaa viikkoon lisää, että saamme tuon Petrin oppimaan tekniikan ja ohjaamaan Viiviä paremmin. Minä pääsen samalla harjoittelemaan agilityohjaajan pestiä, kun koulutan Petriä. HIH! Tavoitteeksi otamme, että pääsisimme molemmat kisaamaan kesän loppuun mennessä eli viimeistään elokuussa.

We both applied for a summer training place's from OKK and we got them from the same group. JEE! Petri, therefore, is training with Viivi and I with Lexie. Our training is on Wednesday evenings. We are also planning to go and train on our own, so that we can train Petri to guide Viivi better. I get a chance to be a agility instructor for Petri. HIH! We are going to train so, that we could both be competing in the end of summer at the latest or by the end of August.

Petri kävikin Viivin kanssa harjoittelemassa kisaamista muutaman radan epävirallisissa agilitykilpailuissa Oulunsalossa 13.5. Kävimme myös Lexien kanssa tekemässä supermölliradan, missä oli vain hyppyjä ja putkia. Opin taas sen, että Viivihän irtosi todella hyvin, mutta Lexie kaipaa taas tarkempaa ohjausta. Ohjausvirheitä siis tuli sillä radalla. Se ei kuitenkaan haitannut, koska kävimme Lexien kanssa kisaamassa saman tapahtuman mätsäreissä ja olimme punaisten neljäs omassa luokassamme. Saimme hieman leluja ja herkkuja lahjaksi - molemmat. Agilitypuolella Petri ja Viivi onnistuivat kisoissaan todella hienosti: supermölliradalla pari oli 2. ja aloittelijoiden radalla 3. Tässä pitääkin vielä mainostaa, että koirat, jotka olivat heidän edellä molemmilla radoilla, kilpailevat oikeasti 3. luokassa, joten aika hyvin meidän parivaljakolta. Petri olikin kisailujen jälkeen todella innoissaan ja haluaa lisää kilpailla. Tähän annamme todellakin mahdollisuuden. Katsotaan, kisaavatko he jo kesän lopulla 2. luokassa tai jopa 3. luokassa. Olisihan se mahtavaa!

Petri wanted to try agility with Viivi, so they went to an unofficial agility competition at Oulunsalo on 13th of May. I wanted to try it too, so I did super easy track with Lexie, which had just jumps and pipes. I learned once again that Viivi is race-ready and Lexie needs a lot more guidance. I did some errors on the track. It didn't matter, because our main target was to train showing with Lexie in the same event. There was a match show and we got the red and we were fourth in our class. We got some toys and snacks - both. On agility track Petri and Viivi did really well: On super easy track they were 2nd and on a beginner's course they were 3rd. I shouldn't advertise, but the other dogs who were ahead of Petri and Viivi are competing for real in 3rd class, so Petri and Viivi did pretty well. After the race Petri was really excited about it and wants to compete more and more. To it, we will give him a real possibility. Let's see, will they compete near the end of summer in 2nd class or even in 3rd class. It would be soooooo great!

Näyttelyitä - Shows

Aloitimme tälle vuodelle näyttelykiertueemme Oulun KV:sta. Tuomarina näyttelyissä oli Monica Blaha Itävallasta. Näyttelyyn oli ilmoittautunut 77 shelttiä, joten iso kasa koiria oli paikalla. Ilma oli aivan upea ja aurinkoinen. Lexie oli myös todella hyvässä turkissa ja tuulella, joten olin oikeastaan innoissani näyttelystä. Valitettavasti emme saaneet sitä, mitä tulimme hakemaan eli ERInomaista, vaan ainoastaan Erittäin Hyvän. Siitä on kuitenkin hyvä lähteä liikkeelle mammaloman jälkeen. We started this year exhibition's from Oulu International dog show on 18th of May. The judge was Monica Blaha from Austria. There were 77 shelties, so there were a big pile of dogs on the spot again. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and sunny. Lexie had also a very good coat and mood, so I was really excited about the show. Unfortunately, we did not get what we came for (excellent), just only very good. It is, however, a good place to begin after the maternity leave. You can read the show review from Lexie's page.

Olimme myös järkkäilemässä näyttelyä perjantaina ja lauantaina, koska Äimärautio oli ko. viikonlopun koiratapahtuman mekka. Perjantaina olimme OKK:n porukoiden kanssa tekemässä OKK:n ryhmänäyttelyä, ja lauantaina olimme mukana parkkipirkkoina opastamassa autoilijoita parkkipaikalla. Koska ilma oli mitä loistavin, porukka mitä hauskin, oli mukava työskennellä ne päivät ja hankkia niitä arvokkaita talkoopisteitä ensi talvea varten, koska ensi talvena OKK:lla olisi se himoittu halli viimeinkin - ei enää kupolia, vaan oikea halli. Lisäksi Petri haluaa nyt tehdä kaikkensa, että hän saa mahdollisimman paljon pisteitä tienattua, että treenaamaan pääsee kunnolla + ilmaiset lähdöt ovat kohteena myös. Ihana nähdä Petri niin innostuneena!

We were also putting up the show arena on Friday and on Saturday, because Äimärautio at Oulu was the dog event mecca on that weekend. On Friday, we were there as a stuff from OKK with others to build up OKK's group show for Saturday, and on Saturday we attended as parking assistants to guide all those visitors to the right parking lots. Because the air was sunny and warm and people with us were fun, it was nice to work on those days and get those valuable point for next winter, because next winter OKK would have that covered training hall for real - no longer the ugly dome, but a real hall. In addition, Petri now wants to do everything that he wants to get as many points he can have so he can train with Viivi + get those free starts to races. Lovely to see Petri so excited!

Shetlanninlammaskoirien pääerikoisnäyttely 14.4.2012

Shetlanninlammaskoirien pääerikoisnäyttely järjestettiin tänä vuonna Haukiputaan Martinniemessä Martinniemen työväentalolla 14.4.2012 klo 10 - 17. Järjestänä toimi Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry. Tuomareina toimivat Dave Weller Iso-Britanniasta ja Irina Poletaeva Suomesta. Paikalle heidän arvioitavaksi oli saapunut 133 shelttiä omistajineen.

Shetland Sheepdogs Speciality Show was held this year at Martinniemi in Haukipudas at Martinniemi Labor Hall. Organize work was done by Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry. The judges were Dave Weller from the UK and Irina Poletaeva from Finland. At the show there were 133 shelties and their owners.

Saavuimme paikalle hyvissä ajoin eli jo klo 7.30. Lähdimme mukaan molempien koiriemme kanssa: Lexie (18 kk eli 1 v 6 kk) pääsi kilpailemaan nuorten luokkaan ja Viivi (2 v 10 kk) avoimeen luokkaan. Luokkamme alkoivat vasta ruokailun jälkeen eli n. klo 13, joten aamupäivän sain rauhassa toimia ns. järjestäjäväessä. Olin kääntäjäpalvelussa + olin koonnut näyttelyluettelon järjestäjien antamien tietojen pohjalta. Petri taas toimi kuvaajana koko hommassa, joten olimme taas aktiivisesti mukana tapahtumassa. Koska olin aamun kääntäjäpalvelussa, sain tutustua myös tuomareiden tekemiin arviointeihin. Näin, millaista linjaa molemmat tuomarit käyttivät. Linja oli tiukka ja tarkka eli luvassa olisi perusteellinen arvio koirasta, mikä on aina hieno asia erikoisnäyttelyissä.

We arrived in good time - already at 7.30. We competed with Lexie (18 months - 1 year 6 months) at the Intermediate Class and with Viivi (2 years 10 months) at the Open Class. Our classes started after the lunch break about at 1 o'clock, so before that I could do my duties at the organizer group. I was in the translation service + I did the show catalogue based on the information the organizers provided. Petri was working as a photographer in this entire show, so we were again actively involved in sheltie business. Since I was working as a translator, I got to read evaluations that the judges gave in the ring. I could see what kind of line in evaluation was used by the two judges. Line was tight and precise, so you could have a thorough assessment of the dog, which is always a great thing in these speciality shows.

Koska halusin kantaa vielä korteni kekoon järjestelyssä, toin paikalle kaksi pellillistä kasvispiirakkaa, jonka ohjeen lupasin jakaa. Tässäpä se sitten on. - I wanted to do my share for the organization of this show, so I did two large vegetable pies to serve and I promised to share that recipe. Here you go:

Kasvispiirakka - Vegetable pie

Raaka-aineet - Materials:

250 g voita (butter)

6 dl vehnäjauhoja (wheat flour)

3 - 4 rlk kylmää vettä (spoons of cold water)

1 - 2 prk fetajuustoa (öljyssä tai ilman) (cans of feta cheese (with oil or without)

2 rasiaa kirsikkatomaatteja (packets of cherry tomatoes)

1 prk ranskankermaa (can of sour cream)

3 munaa (eggs)

n. 3.5 dl maito-kermaseosta (50/50) (approximately 3,5 dl of milk and cream mixture - 50/50)

2 tl mustapippuria rouhittuna (teaspoons of black pepper)

1 ruukku tuoretta basilikaa / tai maustepurkista ruokalusikallinen

(1 pot of fresh basil / or a tablespoon of spice jar)

3 dl emmental-raastetta (emmental cheese grated)

Ohjeet:

1. Tee ensin taikina. Lämmitä ja pehmennä voi. Muovaa käsin voista ja jauhoista tasainen massa ja lisää vettä tarpeen mukaan, ei kuitenkaan niin, että taikina pehmenee liikaa. Tulee olla kimmoisaa. Kääri kelmuun ja laita jääkaappiin vetäytymään. - First make the dough. Warm and soften the butter. Form from butter and flour a smooth paste and add water as required, but not too much so that the dough softens too much. It has to be resilient. Wrap it in a foil and place it in the refrigerator to retreat.
2. Puolita kirsikkatomaatit tai pilko halutessasi neljään osaan. Kaada öljy pois fetajuustosta, hienonna basilika. Yhdistä maitokermaseos, munat ja ranskankerma, vatkaa kevyesti kunnes munat ovat sekoittuneet tasaisesti, lisää pippuri ja ripaus suolaa jos tarvetta. Lisää puolet juustoraasteesta. - Halve the cherry tomatoes or chop them in four parts. You choose. Pour water or oil from the feta cheese. Chop fresh basil, if you put it. Combine milk-cream mixture, eggs and sour cream. Whisk gently until eggs are evenly mixed, add pepper and pinch of salt if needed. Add half the grated cheese.
3. Kaulitse taikina leivinpaperin päällä leivinpellin kokoiseksi ja siirrä pellille. Esipaista n. 10 minuuttia, 200 asteessa. Ota pois uunista ja ripottele pinnalle tomaatit, fetakuutiot, basilika ja kaada lopuksi päälle munamaitoseos ja viimeistele vielä juustoraasteella (josta käytit puolet aiemmin). - Roll the dough on baking paper to size the baking tin. Then move it on  the baking tin on the baking paper. Bake it for about 10 minutes in 200 degrees. Remove it from oven and sprinkle with tomatoes, feta cheese, basil, and finally pour the milk over the egg mixture and finish with more grated cheese (the other half of which you were using previously).
4. Paista uunissa, 200 asteessa n. 30 minuuttia tai kunnes täyte on hyytynyt. Laske lämpötilaa 175 - 150 asteeseen lopussa jos pinta tummuu liikaa. Anna piirakan vetäytyä n. puolisen tuntia ennen tarjoilua. - Bake it in the oven in 200 degrees about 30 minutes until the fill has coagulated. Lower the temperature to 175 or 150 degrees in the end if the surface darkens too much. Let the pie settle about 30 minutes before serving.

Lexie - Kråkeslottets Miss Lexus

Lexien kanssa lähdimme tavoittelemaan ERIä perinteisesti. Vähempään emme tyytyisi, mutta kieltämättä aina mielessämme pyörii mahdollisuus huonompaan arvosanaan. Aina se pieni pelko on takaraivossa, mutta tavoitteet on tavoitteita.

With Lexie we went to pursue the Excellent (ERI) grade.  We do not settle for anything less, but certainly there is always thoughts of the possibility of a worse grade. Always that little fear in the back of your head, but the goals are goals.

Paikalle oli saapunut Lexien kasvattaja Linda Andorsen (Lexien veljen) Mr. Cadillacin, Lady Di:n ja Heran  kanssa. Hän asettautui meidän lähistöllemme, joten saimme nopeasti aina neuvoja ja apua, jos sitä tarvitsimme. Hän oli tuonut avukseen myös miehensä Jon-Rogerin, koska hän osallistui kasvattajaluokkaan. Lexien trimmauksessa näyttelykuntoon Linda oli enemmänkin kuin avulias - hän harjasi ja laittoi Lexien minulle. Olin kyllä otettu, koska itselläni on taidot vielä hieman hukassa, mutta nyt ostettavien varusteiden listalle tulee muutama Lindan antama vinkki. Ymmärsin nyt paremmin taas, mikä oli tärkeää ja mikä ei.

Lexie's breeder Linda Andorsen had arrived at he show too with her dogs (Lexie's brother) Mr. Cadillac, Lady Di's and Hera. She build her place near us, so we were always able to have a quick advice and assistance if needed. She had also brought her husband, Jon-Roger, with her to help because she participated in the breeder class. With trimming Lexie to exhibition condition Linda was more than helpful - she brushed and trimmed Lexie for me. Yet I don't have all the skills for the trimming, so it was good that Linda helped. I have put some very essential items at my list of equipment purchased. I understand better now again, what is important and what is not.

Kauhea jännitys alkoi iskeä kellon lähetessä yhtä. Onneksi kehät olivat hieman myöhässä, joten saatoin rauhoitella itseäni hieman vielä. Lindan kanssa porisimme, mitä pitää tehdä ja mitä ei. Lisäksi vanhempani olivat tulleet seuraamaan näyttelyä. Kävin aina heille purkamassa tuntojani välillä.

Terrible tension began to strike when the clock started to get nearer the showtime. Fortunately, the rings were a little late, so I was able to calm myself a little further while. With Linda I talked all the things, what to do and what not. In addition, my parents had come to follow the show. So I was unloading my feeling to them between rings.

Nuorten kehässä tuomarina toimi Dave Weller ja koirakoita oli 7. Numeromme oli 97 ja olimme järjestyksessä 5. esittelyyn menevä. Tuomari jakoi kehän kahtia, joten aluksi kiersivät neljä ensimmäistä ja sitten meidän porukkamme. Sain juosta ensimmäisenä omassamme, joten olin onnellinen. Se oli sitä, mitä halusimmekin. Lexie tarvitsee tilaa mennä, joten jos edessämme vetelee jokin hyvin hidas, olisimme silloin edellä menevän niskassa. Nyt saimme onneksi päättää vauhdin.

Judge at the Intermediate class was Dave Weller and there were 7 dogs competing. Our number was 97 and we were fifth in line. The judge divided us in half, so at first went round the first four and then we last three. I got to run in lead, so I was happy. This was what we wanted. Lexie needs room to go ahead, so if we have a very slow dog ahead of us, we would be running on their heels all the time. Now, fortunately, we got to decide the speed.

Yksilöarvostelussa tietysti nostimme ensin koiran pöydälle arvioitavaksi ja sitten tuomari pyysi aina kävelemään edestakaisin kaksi kertaa eli tuomarista poispäin ja sitten takaisin. Tämän jälkeen seisoisimme arvioinnin ajan tuomarin edessä sivuttain. Pöydällä neiti toimi oikein ja antoi tuomarin tutkia rauhassa. Kävelymme meni paremmin kuin odotin eli hyvin hyvin rauhallisesti. Lopuksi seisoimme rauhassa edessä. Välillä korjailin asentoamme, mutta muuten olin todella tyytyväinen. Tulokseksi saimme sitten tuomarilta ERIn!

On individual review we first put the dog on the table for review and then judge asked us to walk back and forth twice - away from the judges and then back again. After that we were standing in front of the judge during the evaluation. On the table she was good and allowed the judge to study her. A walk went better than I expected and very, very calmly. Finally, we stood in front of the judge in peace sometimes correcting our pose. I was really pleased. Finally we got the result and it was Excellent!

Tämän jälkeen jäimme odottamaan nuorten luokan kilpailuluokkaa. Kaikki ERIn saaneet tulisivat silloin takaisin kehään ja meidät aseteltaisiin sitten järjestykseen. Kävin Lexien kanssa taas pyörähtämässä vanhempieni luona mutkan tunteita purkamassa.

Because of the Excellent grade, we now waited for the competition class of the intermediate class. There all the dogs who got Excellent have come back into the ring. Then the judge will assemble us in winning order. I went with Lexie to visit my parents while we waited the call back.

Kilpailukehässä koirakoita oli viisi eli koska ERI-arvosanan sai vain kolme koirakkoa, mukaan otettiin myös EH-arvosanan eli Erittäin Hyvän saaneet koirat. Seisoimme taas järjestyksessä rivissä. Jokaisen koirakon piti lisäksi kävellä edestakaisin tuomarista poispäin ja takaisin. Taas paikallaan seisominen ja kävely menivät hyvin. Olin niin tyytyväinen. Ilmeisesti liikkumisemme ja esiintymisemme oli hienoa, koska voitimme luokkamme eli olimme NUK 1 ja saimme SA:n! Tästä seuraisi se, että menisimme sitten PN-kehään eli Paras Narttu -kehään. Ennen PN-kehää esittelin Viivin välissä avoimessa luokassa.

In competition ring the were five dogs because of there were only three dogs who got the Excellent grade, so there were those dogs too who got Very Good (EH) grade. We all stood in a row again. Judge put us everyone to walk back and forth away from and back from judge. Our standing still and walking went well again. I was so happy. Apparently we did move and presented us fine, because we won our class so we were NUK 1 and we got SA! That meant that next we would go to the Best Bitch ring. Before BB ring I presented Viivi at the Open Class.

PN-kehään eli Paras Narttu -kehään pääsivät kaikki SA:n eli Sertifikaatin Arvoinen -arvosanan saaneet koirat kaikista luokista. Yleensä näitä ovat 1. ja 2. luokassaan. PN-kehään pääsi 6 koirakkoa. Me olimme ainoa trikki kehässä eli kehässä oli soopelivalta.

In Best Bitch ring got all the dogs who got SA as Worth of Certificate grade at their class. Generally, these were those who were positioned 1st and 2nd in their class. There were six dogs at BB ring.We were the only tricolor in the ring - all the others were sable.

Tuomarina tässäkin kehässä toimi Dave Weller ja hän pyysi meitä tekemään samoin kuin muissakin kilpailukehissä eli ensin seisoimme paikallamme, kun hän kiersi koirat kaikki lävitse. Tämän jälkeen kävelimme tuomarista poispäin ja takaisin kerran. Tämäkin kertamme meni mainosti ja tuomari sijoitti meidät PN:n kehän neljänneksi eli olimme PN 4!

The judge in the ring again was Dave Weller, and he asked us to do the same as in the other competition rings - first we stood still, when judge went around all the dogs. After that we walked away from and back to the judge. This too went well and finally judge placed us fourth! We were fourth best bitch in this show!

Viivi - Dash'ing Glamourous Geisha

Viivin kehä oli suoraan Lexien kehän jälkeen. Koska voitimme kehän, menin kauhealla juoksulla hakemaan Viivin. Onneksi olin harjannut ja laittanut Viivin hyvin aikaisemmin, joten hirveä huoli minulla ei ollut siitä. Kauhea kiire vain oli, kun juoksin Lexien häkkiin ja Viivin takaisin kehään. Lisäksi olin vahingossa jättänyt toisen esittelyremmin kotiin, joten siinä kiireessä revin punaiset nauhat hihnasta pois ja vaihdoin nauhan Lexien kaulasta Viivin kaulaan.

Viivi's ring was directly after Lexie's ring. Since we won the ring, I was bit at a hurry and ran to get Viivi. Fortunately, I had brushed and trimmed Viivi well in the past, so I did not have worry about it. I only had a terrible hurry, when I ran to the cage and switched Lexie to Viivi and ran back to the ring. In addition, I had left the other show leach at home, so in haste I tore the red tape out of the leach, and I changed the leach from Lexie's neck to Viivi's neck.

Koska tuomari oli sama kuin Lexien kehässä, tuomari ja kehäsihteeri naureskelivat, kun saavuin kehään hieman myöhässä. Miksiköhän?

As the judge was the same as in Lexie's ring, the judge and the secretary of the ring were laughing, when I arrived a little late into the ring. I wonder why?

Narttujen avoimessa kehässä oli koirakoita monta - 27 koirakkoa, joista kaksi oli vielä poiskin. Onneksi olimme aakkosissa alkupäässä, joten meidän ei tarvinnut odotella kauhean kauaa arviointiamme. Toisaalta olisihan se ollut kiva, että olisin voinut hieman rauhoittua edellisen kehän jälkeen. Tavoitteenamme oli myös Viivin kanssa saada mahdollisimman hyvä arvosana eli ERI tai EH. Neiti oli tosin turhan iloisella tuulella eli pomputti ja nauratti koko ajan.

In bitches Open Ring lots of dogs - 27 and two had dropped out. Fortunately, we were at the beginning of the alphabet, so we did not have to wait terribly long for our evaluation. On the other hand It would have been nice to have some free time before the evaluation, because I could have used that time to calm down a little after the previous ring. Our goal was to get as Viivi with a good grade - ERI or EH. Our Miss Viivi though was admittedly too merry - she was bouncing and laughing all the time.

Pöydällä seisoimme taas hienosti. Häntä oli alhaalla ja olemus hieno. Tuomari sai tutkia neidin hyvin, vaikka aluksi luulinkin, että Viivi pelkäisi tätä harmaata miestä. Onneksi otteeni rauhoitti neitiä, joten hän oli ihan rennosti ja antoi tuomarin tutkia rauhassa. Kävelyssämme oli hieman parantamisen varaa, koska häntä nousi ylös hieman. Onneksi seisoimme arvosteltavana hyvin nätisti ja saimme arvosanaksi EH:n eli Erittäin Hyvän. Nyt jäisimme odottelemaan muita arviointeja eli jos tuomari ei anna neljää ERIä, menisimme kehään uudelleen. Näin ei käynyt, joten Viivi sai olla rauhassa lopun iltapäivän. On the table we stood great. She had her tail down and appearance was fine. The judge examined her nicely even though at first I thought that Viivi would be afraid of the gray man. Fortunately my touch calmed jher, so she was pretty relaxed and allowed the judge to do his thing in peace. In our walking there where a little thing to correct, because she lifted her tail up a little. Fortunately, we were standing very nicely when judged and we got a grade Very Good. Now we were waiting for further judges evaluations. If the judge does not give the four ERI's at the ring, then would have to go back into the ring. That did not happen, so Viivi was left free at the end of the afternoon. The evaluation can be read from Viivi's own page.

Kasvattajaluokka - Breeders Class

Kasvattajaluokkaan oli ilmoittautunut kuusi kasvattajaa. Mukaan itse ryhmään pääsivät arvostelujen pohjalta kolme ryhmää: Helsko, Kråkeslottets (Lindan kennel) ja Dash'ing (Maaritin kennel).

There were six breeder groups at the Breeders class. According to the group ratings there were only three groups: Helsko, Kråkeslottets (Linda's kennel) and Dash'ing (Maarit's kennel).

Kasvattajaluokassa olivat mukana tosiaan molemmat koirani - Viivi Maaritin ryhmässä ja Lexie Lindalla. Linda halusi esittää Lexien ja annoin neidin hänelle, koska olisin Viivin kanssa Maaritin ryhmässä samassa kehässä. Minulla ei ole koskaan ollut kokemusta kasvattajakehästä, mutta nyt olin siellä molemmilla koirillani. Hyvä ensimmäinen kerta. Ehkä olen joskus tulevaisuudessa omalla ryhmälläni siellä.

Both of my dogs were at Breeders Class - Viivi in Maarit's group and Lexie in Linda's. Linda wanted to take Lexie there and I gave my girl to her, because I would have Viivi in the same ring. I've never had an experience of the Breeders Class and now I was there with both of my dogs. A good first time. Maybe sometime in the future I'll have my own team out there.

Kasvattajaluokan voiton vei Helskon porukka, toiseksi tuli Lindan ryhmä ja Maaritin sijoittui kolmanneksi. Ruokapussin sain siis tästäkin kehästä.

Breeder Class was won by Helsko's pack, the second was Linda's pack and on a third place Maarit's pack. Again I got a dog food bag.

Pääerikoisnäyttelystä muuten

Paikkana Martinniemen työväentalo oli hieno. Tilaa oli niin yleisölle kuin koirakoillekin. Kehät olivat avarat ja niissä oli hyvä esiintyä. Tuntui, että palvelut pelasivat kaikin puolin ja lisäksi meillä oli tulospalvelu, jota päivitettiin nettiin kaikkien ryhmien jälkeen. Meidän talkooväki oli kyllä tehnyt mahtavaa työtä. Iso hatunnosto heille!

The Martinniemi's community hall was very nice place. There were lots of space for the public and dogs. The rings were spacious and it was good to show your dog there. It felt that the services were playing in every way, and in addition we had a results service, which was updated in the net after each ring. Our organizers had certainly done a great job. 

Viimeinen lomaviikko ja Kuopion KV - Last week of holiday and Kuopio International

Viimeinen lomaviikko alkoi sitten kuitenkin. Vielä muistan ajan, kun aloittelin ensimmäistä lomaviikkoa kovan kouluvuoden jälkeen. No, ei anneta sen masentaa. Elämään tulee taas mukavaa vaihtelua, kun pääsee ns. "ihmisten ilmoille".

Sadly last week of holiday started. I still remember the time, when I started my holiday after hard school year. Well, we won't let that put us down. I'll get some new winds to my life, when I go there where other people are.

Kuopio KV 7.8.2011 - Kuopio International

Sunnuntaina oli Kuopiossa kansainvälinen koiranäyttely. Lähdimme kokeilemaan Viivin ja Lexien kanssa taas onneamme. Lexie tosin nyt ensimmäisen kerran junnuna. Tuomarina Kuopiossa olisi Rainer Vuorinen - tunnettu tuomari ja etenkin näyttelykäyttäytymisen asiantuntija.

There was international dog show at Kuopio on Sunday. We decided to go and try our luck there with Viivi and Lexie. Lexie went in the ring as junior for the first time. Judge was Rainer Vuorinen - known judge and expert on show behavior.

Lähdimme aamuisella ajelemaan vähää ennen kuutta kohti Kuopiota. Olin pessyt ja trimmannut tytöt edellisenä iltana, joten kaikki oli valmista itse näyttelyä varten. Shelttien kehä alkoi klo 9, joten olisimme paikalla ihan ajoissa. Yleensähän aloituksessa menee aikansa ja urokset olivat ensin kehässä, joten saisin puunata tytöt rauhassa kehää varten. Ehtisimme myös hieman totutella ympäristöön.

Early on Sunday morning we left and headed towards Kuopio. I had washed and trimmed girls last night, so everything was ready for the show. Shelties ring would start at nine o'clock, so we would be there on time. Usually the starting takes time and males are the first one to go, so I will get some time to ruffle the girls for the ring. We could even get to know the area.

Matka meni mukavasti ja rauhallisesti. Mitään ihmeellisempiä ei tapahtunut. Tytöt nukkuivat rauhallisesti koko matkan häkissä. Olimme noin yhdeksän maissa siellä ja lähdimme tavaroinemme kohti kehää. Uroskehä oli juuri alkanut, kun kävelimme ohitse sen pystyttämään teltan. Petri lähti teltan pystytyksen jälkeen katsomaan, mikä kehä olisi menossa ja kuinka kiirus meillä olisi. Sitten selvisikin, että tuomari oli hyvinkin nopea, koska uroskehä oli ohitse melkein puolessa tunnissa. Teltan pystytyksen jälkeen aikaa ei koirien puunaukseen ollutkaan kauaa ja meillä tuli kiire.

Ride to Kuopio went nicely and calmly. Nothing much happened. Girls slept calmly in the cage the whole trip. We were at Kuopio around nine o'clock. We headed to ring with our stuff. Males had started already, when we passed by the ring. We put up our tent and Petri went to
see, which male ring was on and how should I hurry. Then it came clear that the judge was very fast, because he had done males in half an hour. After putting up the tent I had not much time to ruffle up my dogs.

Kehät menivät vauhdikkaasti ja molemmat tytöt saivat erittäin hyvät arvosanat. / Both rings went past quickly and our both girls got very good grades. 

Tämän näyttelykerran jälkeen aloitan varmemman tuomariselvityksen. Taidan pyytää erään serkkutytön apua ko. asian kanssa. Loppusyksystä olisi tarkoitus lähteä myös sille kasvattajakurssille, että pääsisimme hieman erilaiseen maailmaan tutustumaan muutenkin.

After this show I will start to keep my own judge register. I will ask some advice from my one special cousin. In the late autumn I will go to breeder course.

Heinäkuun hurahti nopeasti - July passed by with speed

Joskus aika kuluu nopeasti, mikä tapahtui varsinkin nyt kesälomalla. Petri aloitti kesälomansa heinäkuun ensimmäisinä päivinä ja siitä se sitten lähti. Aika kului uskomattoman nopeasti, kun puuhastelimme yhdessä ja koirien kanssa kaikkea mahdollista maan ja taivaan väliltä.

Sometimes time fly, which happened now on our summer vacation. When Petri started his summer holiday at the beginning of July, flying started. Time went by so fast, when we did things together and with our little doggies.


Koiranäyttelyt - Dog shows

Heinäkuussa ei ole ollut kuin Oulun isot KV-näyttelyt 16.-17.7. Äimäraution raviradalla. Niihin veimme Viivin vain, koska Lexiellä oli vielä paljon kehittämistä kehossaan. Toisaalta hieman mietitytti aluksi jättää Lexie kokonaan käyttämättä, mutta jälkeen päin ajatellen trikkityttö ruskealla selällä ei ehkä ole kaikkein paras vietäväksi, jos haluaa menestystä. Seuraava etappi on meillä Lexien kanssa Kuopio viikon päästä.

On July there was only one big international show - Oulu International on 16th and 17th of July in Äimärautio racetrack. We took there only our Viivi, because Lexie has a little development to do. On the other hand I thought about it much did I do a right thing, but maybe a tricolor girl with brown back wouldn't show of well, if you aim for success. Next show in our calendar is in Kuopio next weekend.

OULU - lauantai 16.7. - Tuomarina Andrew Brace

Lauantai oli "ihanteellinen" päivä koiranäyttelylle. Koko päivän satoi vettä kaatamalla, joten koirien näyttäminen parhaimmillaan, varsinkin pitkäkarvaisilla roduilla, oli todella vaikeaa. Tämä päti siis myös sheltteihin. Miten saisit pörröiseksi koiran, joka on kauttaaltaan märkä ja kostea?

Saturday was "ideal" day for dog show. It rained all day really heavy, so showing a dog at her best, specially with long coated dogs, it was a little bit difficult. This with shelties was same thing. How could you puff up a dog, which was all wet and damp?

Lauantaina shelttien kehä oli nro 36 ja se sijaitsi nurmikolla keskellä ravirataa. Hieman pelotti, miten tallautunut ja mutautunut nurmikenttä olisi lauantaina. Toisaalta kaikki koiraihmiset olisivat samassa jamassa. Shelttien näyttäminen alkoi klo 10.30 ja nartut olisivat kehässä klo 12 alkaen. Lauantaina shelttejä oli ilmoittautunut näyttelyyn huimat 72 kappaletta: 2 pentua, 23 urosta ja 47 narttua.

On Saturday shelties ring was number 36 and it was in the grass in the middle of racetrack. I was a little bit scared of how muddy would a grass field be on Saturday. On the other hand, every dog owner was at the same situation as us. Sheltie show started at 10.30 and bitches were at the ring at 12 o'clock. On Saturday there were lots of shelties in the ring - total 72: 2 puppies, 23 males and 47 bitches.

Saavuimme Peten kanssa kentälle noin tuntia ennen narttujen kehää. Tuomari oli ollut todella nopeana, joten aikataulussa oli pysytty hyvin. Tämän vuoksi ei onneksi tullut mitään turhaa odottelua. Pystytimme telttamme ja huokaisimme hetken koirien kanssa suojassa sateelta. Paikalla oli ihmeellisesti useampi teltta, joten pystytimme sen jonon jatkoksi kehän ympärille. Aloin laittaa Viiviä kuntoon pian sen jälkeen ja Petri lähti kuvailemaan koiria ja aluetta.

We arrived with Pete at the ring about an hour earlier than the bitches ring started. Judge was a very speedy man, so there wouldn't be any vain waiting. We put up our tent and took a minute out of the rain with our dogs. Amazingly there were lots of tents in the area, so we put up ours in the line with others around the ring. I started to make up Viivi and Petri went and started to photograph the dogs and the area.
Toivoin välillä, että pahin sade menisi ohitse meidän vuoron ajaksi, mutta toive oli turha. Vettä satoi yhä vain enemmän ja enemmän. Harjoittelin hieman hetken Viivin kanssa telttojen takana eli palautin mieleen, miten täällä toimittiin. Tämän jälkeen Petri tuli ilmoittamaan, että nyt menkää kehään. Juoksimme paikalle ja seisoimme jonossa muiden koirien kanssa. Avoimessa luokassa oli 13 narttua.

I hoped time to time, that the worst rain would be over by the time it was our turn, but the hope was vain. It started to rain more and more. I practiced with Viivi a little while at back of tents or I tried to memorize her how to behave in a ring. After that Petri came and told me that it was show time. I ran at the ring and went standing in the line with others. There were 13 bitches in the open class.

Yleisesti kehämme meni mainiosti. Viivi osasi olla pöydällä hyvin minun "pienellä avustuksella". Mies-tuomari on aina pelon aihe, mutta nyt "pieni nipistys" kainalosta poisti pelon. Viivi osasi olla pöydällä hyvin ja antoi tuomarin hipelöidä sen, minkä hän halusi. Tämän jälkeen vuorossa oli kävely ympäri kerran sekä edestakainen liike. Ne menivät aivan uskomattoman hienosti. Tuloksena olikin siten ERI eli erinomainen. Kilpailuluokassa kiersimme kehää yhdessä kaikkien muiden ERIn saaneiden kanssa. Juoksimme hetken neljäntenä, mutta sitten Seija Sandran kanssa siirrettiin eteemme neljänneksi. Tämä ei haitannut, koska saimme ensimmäisen ERIn tänään.

Generally our ring went very well. Viivi knew how to stand on the table with my "little assistance". Male judges are always a scary thing, but now my "little pintch" under the arm pit removed that fear. Viivi stood on the table well and let the judge to examine her. After that we walked around the field once and then went fort and back. Those both walks went great and result was ERI as excellent. In competing class we runned around the ring with others ERI's. We ran a while as fourth but then Seija with Sandra tood our place. It was ok, because we got our first ERI today.

Häivyimme paikalta pian tämän kehän jälkeen, koska minä vapisin kylmyydestä läpimärkänä. Toisaalta siellä sateen keskellä ei kiinnostanut seisoskella kauaa oleskeli sitä teltassa tai ei. Vaikka olin märkä, olin onnellinen, koska tämä oli mahtava päivä Viiville. Saamme lisätä punaisen nauhan pakettiimme. Iloa ei haitannut myöskään se, että illalla kotona minulle nousi vilustumisesta pieni kuume - 38 astetta. Seuraavan päivän osallistuminen olisi siis vaarassa. Onneksi kuume laski seuraavaksi aamuksi ja pääsimme näyttelyihin osallistumaan.

After our ring we took off quite fast, because I was all wet and I shivered because of the coldness. On the other hand who would want to stand in the rain? Although I was all wet, I was happy, because this was a great day for Viivi. We can now add a red ribbon in our show package. My joy lasted though in the evening I developed a fever - 38 degrees. Attending the next show on Sunday was in danger then. Happily the fever went away during the night and we were able to go to the show.

Sunnuntai - 17.7. - Tuomarina Lena Danker

Sunnuntai oli päinvastainen päivä lauantaihin verrattuna. Aurinko porotti pilvettömältä taivaalta ja tuuli viilensi mukavasti ilmaa aina pienillä puuskillaan. Ilma oli siis täydellinen koiranäyttelylle: ei liian kuuma, mutta ei liian kylmäkään. Lauantaina jouduimme kehään 23, joka sijaitsi uloimmalla reunalla ravirataa. Pääsimme nyt kulkemaan onneksi hiekalla emmekä märällä nurmella. Sunnuntaina esittelyssä oli yhteensä 47 shelttiä: 2 pentua, 15 urosta ja 30 narttua.

Sunday was an opposite day compared to Saturday. Sun was shining from cloudless sky and little wind cooled nicely the air with little whirls. Weather was perfect for a dog show: not too hot and not too cold. On Saturday shelties were in the ring 23, which was on the outer ring on the racetrack. We could now walk on the track and not on the wet grass. On the Sunday show there were 47 shelties: 2 puppies, 15 males and 30 bitches.

Lena Danker oli tiukka tuomari, mutta hidas. Hänellä oli vielä mukanaan aputuomari, joka hidasti hommia todellakin. Shelttien kehä alkoi klo 10 ja narttujen kehän piti alkaa klo 11, mutta oikeasti pääsimme kehään vasta noin tunnin päästä siitä. Hän ja aputuomari kävivät koirat perusteellisesti lävitse, joka toisaalta oli hyvä juttu, mutta toisaalta aikaa vievä asia. Tuomarissa ei tänään nähnyt hyviä trikkejä lainkaan eli yksikään tricolor ei saanut sunnuntaina ERIä, vaan jopa EH:n tai H:n. Meidänkin tuloksemme oli EH eli Erittäin Hyvä. Saimme kuitenkin onneksi EH:n, koska osa parhaista trikeistä sai jopa H:ta.

Lena Danker was a very strict judge, but slow. She had with her a judge student learning the judging which slowed all the thing. Sheltie ring started at 10 and bitches ring was supposed to start at 11, but it started about an hour later. Lena and judge student examined the dogs thoroughly which on the other hand was nice, but on the other hand a time spender. The judge didn't see any good tricolors - not a one tricolor got an ERI that day, but they got EH or even H. We got EH as very good too. I was glad that we got EH, because some of the best bitches earlier got even H.

Rinkimme meni todella mukavasti. Viivi liikku hyvin, mutta hieman oli hermostuneisuutta ilmassa enemmän. Se voi johtua siitä, että ympärillä oli nyt enemmän ihmisiä, kun lauantaina kehän laidalla ei ollut ihmisiä juuri lainkaan. Viivi täten kiinnitti hirveästi huomiota kaikkiin tapahtumiin kehän laidalla. Yritin parhaani saada Viivin huomion itseeni, mutta ilmeisesti emme siinä onnistuneet kovin hyvin. Tuomari kävi Viivin todella perusteellisesti lävitse ja kuuntelin samalla arviointia. Tulos ei ollut huono, mutta hieman pettymys.

Our show went quite nicely. Viivi moved well, but there was a little nervousness in the air. It may be it, that there were more people standing around the ring now than on Saturday. Viivi noticed every little thing around the ring. I tried to make a contact, but we didn't do well in that. Judge examined Viivi very thoroughly and I listened. Result was not bad, but it was a bit of a disappointment.

Koska sunnuntai oli mukavan aurinkoinen päivä verrattuna lauantain sateiseen päivään, unohdimme tietysti aurinkorasvat kotiin. Tuloksena oli meillä molemmilla kaunis rusketus, joka muutaman päivän päästä kuoriutui pois.

Because Sunday was a nice sunny day compared to Saturdays rainy day, we forgot to take sun lotion with us. As a result we both got nice tan, which pealed off couple days later.

Reissussa Lapissa ja Norjassa - On trip to Lapland and Norway

Näyttelyitä ennen kävimme pienellä lomareissulla Karigasniemessä ja Norjassa. Vietimme pienen viiden päivän loman siellä suunnalla. Ohjelmassamme oli ulkoilua ja matkailua Norjaan. Koirat pääsivät myös harjoittelemaan pidempää ajomatkaa. Valitettavasti Norjan puolelle emme koiriamme voineet viedä passien puuttumisen takia, mutta ne pääsivät viettämään aikaa Lapin luonnossa siitä edestä. Matkan aikana pysähtelimme tietysti aina välillä, jotta nestehukka ei iskisi tai sitten pissat eivät tulisi autoon.

Before shows we took a holiday trip to Karigasniemi and Norway. We spend a little five day holiday there. On schedule was being outdoors and traveling in Norway. Our little ones got some training of long road trips. Unfortunately they couldn's come to Norway with us because of the passport problem, but they got to spend some time with us in the Lapland. On our road trip we stopped once and a while to pee and to drink.

Ensimmäinen pysähdyspaikkamme olikin Tornio. Petri lähti hakemaan Haaparannan puolelta meille matkaevästä, joten minä otin tytöt ja kävelimme sitten Torniossa pienen päivälenkin. Petri jätti meidät Suomen puoleiselle rannalle sillan kupeeseen. Sieltä kävelimme kaupungintalolle, kirkolle, museolle ja På Gränsen -ostoskeskuksen ohitse liikenneympyrälle rantaan. Matkalla oli paljon ihmeellistä nähtävää: piisami juoksi tien ylitse veteen edestämme, rannassa oli paljon sorsia ja niiden poikueita sekä tietysti ihmisvilinä ostoskeskuksen ympärillä aiheutti ihmetystä.

Our first stop was in Tornio. Petri went to pick up some food and drinks for us from Haaparanta so me and girls took a day walk around Tornio. Petri left us on the beach near the brigde. From there we first walked to city hall, church, museo and past På Gränsen shopping mall to the beach near the round-about. On out walk we saw some amazing things: a muskrat ran over the road in the water in front of us, on the beach there were lots of ducks and ducklings and of course we were amazed of the fuss around the shopping mall.

Seuraavaksi pysähdyimme Rovaniemellä. Siellä kävimme katsomassa Pukin pajaa ja tietysti ylittämässä "virallisesti" napapiirin. Joimme Peten kanssa myös kahvit sekä hieman nautiskelimme taas yhteisestä ajasta pitkästä aikaa. Mottomme oli, että meillä ei ole mihinkään kiirus.

Next stop was at Rovaniemi. We went to see Santa's Workshop and of course we crossed over "officially" the Arctic Circle. Me and Pete we drank some coffee and enjoyed our time together at last. Our motto to this trip was that we won't hurry around at all.

Teimme tämän jälkeen vielä muutaman pissapysähdyksen, mutta ne eivät enää olleet niin mainitsemisen arvoisia. Saavuimme lopulta myöhään maanantai-iltana perille kohteeseemme Karigasniemelle. Kyllä meitä oli jo odotettukin, joten oli kiva päästä sinne. Purimme tavarat, vaihdoimme tärkeimmät kuulumiset ja häivyimme nukkumaan. Suunnittelisimme ohjelman seuraavana päivänä.

After that we stopped few times to pee, but those were not a stops worth of mentions. At last we arrived to Karigasniemi at late on Monday evening. We were very welcomed, so it was nice to be there. We unpacked our car, talked of the most important things in our lifes and after that we went to bed. We could plan the program next day.

Karigasniemellä pörräsimme vähän siellä täällä. Petri kävi hoitamassa muutaman atk-ongelman, kävimme katsomassa Oskua kalastamassa ja sitten tietysti kävimme ulkomaanreissulla Norjassa. Reittimme kulki Karigasniemi-Kararjok-Lakselv(E6)-Tana Bru(98)-Nuorgam-Utsjoki-Karigasniemi. Matka oli hieno, ilma oli mainio ja kuvaus onnistui Petriltä aivan uskomattoman hienosti. Mahtavia kuvia tuli otettua useampia. Matkan ajan Viivi ja Lexie olivat hoidossa Helga Asikaisen luona. Hän on luokanopettaja Inarissa. Hänellä oli kaksi narttuirlanninsetteriä itsellään, joten tytöt pääsisivät koiraseuraan. Hoitopaikka oli myös mitä loistavin, koska se sijaitsi vähän omassa eristyksessään keskellä metsää luonnon keskellä.

At Karigasniemi we drived aroud the town. Petri fixed some computer problems, we went and watched Osku, when he was fishing and then of course we took that trip to Norway. Our route went like this: Karigasniemi-Kararjok-Lakselv(E6)-Tana Bru(98)-Nuorgam-Utsjoki-Karigasniemi. Trip was amazing, weather was great and Petri shoot some really nice photoes. When we were at Norway, Viivi and Lexie was taken care by Helga Asikainen. She is a teacher at Inari. She's got two Irish Setter bitches so Viivi and Lexie was there with company. That place where they lives was a good place for dogs to be, because it was isolated place in the middle of forest surrounded by wild nature.

  

Koiravieraita ja Susadanin kasvattipäivät - Dog Visitors and Kennel Susadan's Bred ups day

Saimme leikkivieraita pitkästä aikaa kotiimme, kun Suvi Ylisaari saapui Taiston kanssa meitä katsomaan. Taisto on nuori kääpiöpinseripoika (5 kk), jonka Suvi oli vasta saanut itselleen toiseksi koiraksi. Taistossa riitti virtaa ja hän saikin iltapäiväksi Lexiestä kovan kaverin. Yhdessä ne leikkiä telmivät leikkimisen ilosta. Viivi katsoi vain vierestä ja murisi, jos Taisto yritti tulla Viivin reviirille. Viivistä on tullut kauhea roturasisti, joka pitää vain omanlaisistaan koirista eli shelteistä ja niiden pitää olla myös mielellään trikkejä. Muut eivät kiinnosta meidän isoa neitiä. Iltapäivä meni nopeasti, kun Taisto leikitti Lexietä ja toisin päin. Tämän voisi ottaa joskus uudestaankin kylään tai me voisimme mennä käymään kylässä. Kiitos siis Suville ja Taistolle mukavasta iltapäivästä!

We got our first dog play mate to our home, when Suvi Ylisaari brought Taisto to see us. Taisto is a young Miniature Pinscher male (5 months), which Suvi got a while ago as her second dog. Taisto had a lots of power and he got a buddy of our Lexie. They played together joyfully all afternoon. Viivi didn't warm up to Taisto as Lexie did. Viivi watched them play and showed her teeths if Taisto came close to her. Viivi has got a little racist in her. She is only interested of other shelties, other breeds don't interest her. I hope Taisto and Suvi will come to our place or we go there another time. It was so fun to watch youngster to play. Thank you Suvi and Taisto!

Heinäkuun loppupuolella Susadanin kennelin omistajat Tiina ja Aini Kaltakari järjestivät kasvattipäivät Martinniemessä Haukiputaalla. Osallistuimme tietysti tapahtumaan, koska Viivi ja Lexie saisivat olla siellä oman rotunsa seurassa. Ohjelmassa on syöpöttelyä, valokuvausta, pientä luennointia koirista sekä tietysti uimakokeilua sekä yleensäkin koirien leikkimisen seuraamista. Paikalle saapui iso kasa ihmisiä sekä koiria. Laskimme, että paikalle olisi tullut noin 30 koiraa omistajineen. Aika kului siivillä ja ilta tuli nopeasti. Oli todella kiva osallistua tällaiseen juttuun ja mielellämme osallistumme tällaisiin vastakin.

In the end of July Kennel Susadan's owners Tiina and Aini Kaltakari invited us all to bred up days at Martinniemi Haukipudas. We went there of course, because it was nice to take Viivi and Lexie to spend some time with other shelties. That day we ate, we took some photoes, Tiina and Aini gave us some lectures about shelties and of course dogs played a lot and tried to swim in the ocean. We counted that there were about 30 dogs with their owners. Time fly and evening came fast. It was really nice to get together with others and we come to the next gathering for sure.

Hieman agilityä - A bit of agility

Viime viikolla järjestettiin Haukkukeitaalla epäviralliset agilitykisat. Päätimme Viivin kanssa ilmoittautua mukaan. Se olisi meidän ensimmäinen agilitykisamme. Onneksi se oli epis eli pääsimme harjoittelemaan mölleinä kisailua. Tuloksena oli hylly, mutta ei se mitään, koska nopeutta meillä oli ihan mukavasti ja Viivi osasi irrottautua sopivasti jo minusta. Omistaja tosin hieman sekosi jaloissaan ja siitä alkoi alamäki. Voitte katsoa itse ja tuomita.

Last week there were unofficial agilityrace at Haukkukeidas. Me and Viivi decided to go there. It was our first agilityrace. Luckily it was unofficial so we could go there to practice racing. Our result was a fail, but it's ok, because we had lots of speed and Viivi was able to put some pace between us - to be independent. Owner lost her pace on one spot and from there we went down hill. You can watch it your self and judge.

Kitkalla - At Kitka, Posio

Viikonloppuna lähdimme pienelle yllärireissulle Kitkalle, Posiolle. Kaverimme Eeron vanhemmat omistavat sieltä mökin, jonne sitten pääsimme lähtemään pienellä porukalla hieman nautiskelemaan viimeisistä lomapäivistä ja tietysti pelailemaan vähän lautapelejä. Tytöt pääsivät mukaamme tietysti nautiskelemaan pohjoisesta järvimaisemasta.

Last weekend we took of to Kitka, Posio. Our friend Eero's parents own a cottage there, where we were able to go with a small group to spend our last days of holiday and of course to play some board games. Girls came with us to enjoy of the northern lake scene.

Mökillä Viivi ja Lexie saivat olla ulkona suurimman osan ajasta. Yöksi tytöt tulivat tietysti nukkumaan kanssamme samaan tilaan, mutta muuten he saivat juoksennella ja leikkiä pihalla. Muurahaiset tuottivat aluksi hieman ihmetystä, koska ne menivät ilkeästi anturoiden väleihin karvoja pitkin. Kun Viivi tajusi, että hiekkaa kuopimalla ne lähtevät jaloista, ne eivät enää hidastaneet matkaa. Tytöt pääsivät esimerkiksi veneilemään. Aluksi valkoiseen paattiin meneminen oli hieman hankalaa, koska paatin pohjalla oli piskuisesti vettä. Tassut kastuivat, joka ei ollut mukavaa. Pian neidit kuitenkin rauhottuivat ja venereissu meni mukavasti. Rannalle oli kova hinku. Ahdistusta neidit kokivat, kun omistajatar lähti poistamaan talviturkkia. Kauheasti piti haukkua rannalta ja vinkua, kun pää katosi pinnan alle. Kun tulin rantaan, kaappasin vuorotellen molemmat kokeilemaan uimista. Uimisrefleksi löytyi onneksi ja neidit pääsivät rantaan asti.

At the cottage Viivi and Lexie spend most of the time outside. At night they slept at the same place as us, but on day they got to run around and play at the yard. Ants made girls life a little bit difficult at first, because they climbed up to paws, but after Viivi learned that by digging the ground you could get them of the paws, life was easier. Girls got to experience some boating. It was a little bit scary at first, but they settled quite well in the end. Being at boat was ok. Paws got little wet, but that's all. Next experience was swimming. First they barked and whined at beach, when I went to swim and take of my winter coat. After I came to ashore I took one a time to try swimming. It worked nicely and they got back to the beach.

Nyt tämän viikonlopun jälkeen Petri lähtee maanantaina töihin ja minulla loma jatkuu vielä pari viikkoa. Minne kesäloma katosi?

Now after this weekend, Petri goes back to work and I've got two more weeks of vacation. Where did the summer go?
