Niin se aika kuluu ja hiljalleen elämä alkaa muuttua kokonaisemmaksi. Valitettavasti mielessä pyörivät edelleen kysymykset ja pohdinnat, teinkö oikein ja olihan se oikea päätös. Onneksi kaikki nämä päivät ovat vastanneet ainakin vielä, että: "Kyllä! Teit oikean päätöksen." On ollut ihana lukea kaikkien ihmisten kannustavia ja lohduttavia viestejä. Ne ovat auttaneet jokaisena päivänä. Toisaalta töiden teko viime viikolla irroitti minut noista masentavista ajatuksista. Kiitos siis kaikille niille kannustaville ihmisille, jotka ovat tukeneet minua tänä vaikeana aikana. The time continues to move ahead and our live begins to feel more normal than week ago. Unfortunately, the mind still wonders, did I made the right choice and was it the right decision. Fortunately, all of these days have shown me, that: "Yes! You made the right decision." It has been wonderful to read of all those encouraging and comforting messages. They have helped me every day. On the other hand I went to work last week and that pulled me off those nasty thoughts. So, thank you to all of those encouraging people who have supported me during this difficult time. It hasn't been easy. In addition, thanks to all my wonderful students at Tornio and Kemi, you have given me something completely different things to think about.

Hieman vastatuulta on tässä viime päivinä ollut muutenkin elämässä. Olemme odotelleet uutta autoamme saapuvaksi jo kuukauden päivät. The last few days haven't been easy on different areas of my life either. We have been waiting for our new car to arrive for the past month. The worst part was the fact that we sold our former car a long time ago, so we have now been driving with Petri's friend's car - a lovely old car, which depresses me every time I ride it. Alfa-pentueessammehan kasvavat hyvää vauhtia Kaulus (kaunis syvämusta trikkinarttu), Viiru Pesonen (pienikokoinen kaunis syvämusta trikkinarttu), Mustis (kaunis monivivahteikas merlenarttu) ja Valle (komea monivivahteikas merlepoika). In Alpha litter there are growing four very nice puppies: Kaulus (a beautiful deep black tricolor bitch), Viiru Pesonen (a small, but beautiful deep black tricolor bitch), Mustis (a beautiful multicolored merle bitch) and Valle (a handsome multicolored merle boy). These are still at working titles, because the correct names will come to them later. These, however, are now in use.

Substitute mother Nasu has been very active with the puppies, she has pushed and encouraged them to walk and do many things. On the other hand, when you think about litter's father and the mother, it would be surprising if they had not done things in advance.

Viiru Pesonen on ollut enimmäkseen mielessäni - heikon terveyden takia. Nasu kuitenkin teki oudon asian alkuviikosta. Luulimme alkuviikosta, että Viiru on hiljalleen vaipumassa ikuiseen uneen. Viirun lämmöt olivat laskeneet, hengitys heikentynyt ja elinvoima oli kadonnut. Tuija (keinoemon omistaja) antoi sitten Viirun Nasulle, että se antaa viimeiset hyvästit pennulle. Viiru Pesonen has been mostly in my mind - the one with poor health. Nasu, however, did a strange thing with her in the beginning of the last week. We thought that Viiru slowly fades into eternal sleep. Viiru's temperatures were decreased, breathing decreased and vitality was lost. Tuija (the owner of the substitute mother) then gave Viiru to Nasu, that she could give the last goodbye to our little one. Nasu had then snatched the puppy from Tuija, massaged it and given hard care for a while, after which the puppy was back among the living. The colors returned, temperature as well. We were amazed at what Nasu did, but Viiru lives today, she still eats aidedly, but also sucks a little herself. Dog mothers know something that we people do not.

Pentujen ulostehan oli aluksi vihreää ripulimaista tuotosta. Nyt väri on palautunut normaaliksi ja muuttunut sellaiseksi, millainen sen pitääkin olla. Samoin pissailu on normaalia, joten elimistö toimii näillä pienillä nyt hyvin. Ruokahalukin on näillä pienillä hyvä, koska painot ovat kasvaneet aivan huimaa vauhtia. Puppies poo was at the beginning a green diarrhea. Now the color has returned to normal, and become to what it should be. Similarly, peeing is normal too, so intestines work now as well. Puppies appetite is very good, because the weights have increased with a quite phenomenal rate. We have agreed with Tuija that the puppies would come back home, when they are 5 to 6 weeks. Depends heavily on how they are doing on their own. So, let's just wait and see.

Lexie life as a mother did not really started, as it should have. Maternal instincts were in there somewhere, but the puppies did not wake up to those feelings at any stage. We tried many things, such as putting butter, grease, gravy and a substitute milk on puppies to lick, but unfortunately, she did not lick and taken care of the puppies even then. Fortunately, Nasu has replaced Lexie many times over as a substitute mom. For that I am still very grateful. In our hands the puppies would have died.

Lexie's antibiotics ended last week and the hormone care as well. She eats her food quite well. Furthermore on jogs she has power more than enough. Therefore, our little one is a very active girl, and the scars are beginning to heal. I love this little dog so much, that I am happy to see that she is getting back her joy and zest for life. All I can do now is to write, that everything didn't go as we expected. I've been in one sort of coma for a week now, which I never imagined I could be in. At least not with my first litter. I assumed that the mother would begin to nurture the puppies and the milk would flow. Small deaths could be, but the most important thing would be that the mother would take care of the puppies, lick them, and enhance their blood circulation.

Where was the other one? We tried our moment to turn the puppy, but we did not succeed. We had to call to the emergency, and then we left in a hurry to drive towards the on-call station. At the on-call stations lobby we got a puppy out and still alive, fortunately, but the string was inside the mother attached to ending. Soon, two more were born alive. Therefore we had two tricolor and one a very small merle. Then we had to wait. We waited and waited, until Lexie began thrusting again. Out pops a smaller merle and a one big merle. Then we had to start waiting for the sixth. Was there a sixth? Thoughts wandered. We X-rayed Lexie to confirm, that there's was only one and not two, as the doctor thought first. Finally it was confirmed that there was one very big puppy, who was not moving out. We thought about caesarean section, but then Lexie began to push it out and the puppy came farther and farther, until it was in our hands and being cared for.

Something which I did not really expect to do with my first litter. The next morning, the weakest - 70 g puppy - had died. After that, we decided that it is necessary to get a substitute mother. We did not have any talent to be that. We took our puppies to another mom, which would give them nursing and milk. This is what happened successfully and all the puppies - five still - ate and drank from her. Unfortunately, there was not enough milk, and the puppies weight decreased and decreased. We took the pups back to Lexie, and thought that she would give the nutrient-rich milk to them. We tried our time, but Lexie was not taking care of those little ones, did not give attention to the puppies. Lexie was just lying on the pin. The next morning, before first light, second smallest of the puppies began to cry, and that too in the morning had to be put down. Then we took the whole group to a vet for hydration and inquiry, which concluded that the Viiru - the smallest tricolor - was the weakest - fluid in the lungs and heart sounds weak. Vet gave diuretic for Viiru, and all the others was given antibiotics, hydration as well. We had to wait and see. The world did not change neither.

Kyllä välillä voi nukkuakin...

Sitten käsissämme oli enää neljä - kaksi trikkiä ja kaksi merleä. Kaikki kohtuullisen elinvoimaisia ja kovia imemään. Emon tissejä rettuutettiin ankarasti. Kakatus ja pissitys onnistuivat vielä, mutta sitten kakka muuttuikin hiljalleen vihreäksi. Tämä merkitsi joko pöpöä mahassa ja vähäistä ruokaa. I made a difficult decision and fed puppies full, then I grabbed them in to a box and started to drive towards Äänekoski and Tuija. At Shell Pihtipudas we gave the puppies to her and in the evening she send me images, where foster mom took care and licked puppies. Puppies ate and grew.

Nyt viikon jälkeen olo on ollut kuin koomassa. Pennut ovat hyvässä hoidossa, koska niiden painot kasvavat. Kakka on muuttumassa hiljalleen oikeanväriseksi, mutta on edelleen löysää. I have been in a coma for a week. Puppies are in good hands, because of their weight increases. Poop is slowly turning into the right color, but it is still loose. Viiru's weight has stopped growing and little one has become cool, so the heart can stop any day now. There is a big chance that Viiru Pesonen will sleep away soon. The remaining three are doing well and the biggest puppy - a merle bitch Mustis - is gaining weight and growing well with others, tricolor girl Kaulus and merle boy Valle. I'm trying to stay positive, but many things wander in my head. What did I do wrong? Why Lexie is not taken care of the puppies? How it all went like this? Did I make all the decisions too slowly? I was all locked up and tired and clueless. Now let's see how all this will turn out.
