Kim Kurkisen agilitykoulutuksessa / Agility with Kim Kurkinen

Jokainen suomalainen agilityharrastaja tuntee varmasti Kim Kurkisen nimen. Viime viikonloppuna Oulun Koirakerho järjesti agilitykoulutusviikonlopun Haukkukeitaalla Evidensia Areenalla. Pääsimme Galan kanssa matkaan juuri ja juuri, koska koulutus oli ihan myyty loppuun. Onneksi ehdin varata paikan meille, koska Petri ja Arwen eivät enää matkaan mahtuneet. Lisäksi agilitykouluttajana sain hieman alennustakin, joten koulutussessiossa oli siten kannattavaa käydä.

Every Finnish agility enthusiast knows for sure name Kim Kurkinen. Last weekend Oulun Koirakerho organized a training weekend at Haukkukeidas at Evidensia Areena. I was lucky with Galan to get on that course, because it was booked solid. Unfortunately Petri and Arwen were not able to get on that course. In addition, because I am an agility trainer I got a little off the price, so the training session was worth to visit.

Teimme Galan kanssa radasta siniset pallot, koska vielä puhtimme ei riittänyt valkoiseen rataan. Sininen antoi meille sen, mitä kaipasimmekin. / Gala and I did the blue track, because there are still not enough speed for the white track. Blue gave us what we needed.

1. Alussa esteillä 3 - 5 meillä oli hieman ongelmia. Gala tulee kovalla vauhdilla putkesta ja saa minut kiinni ennen estettä neljä ja ehtii juosta esteestä ohitse. Otimme lähdön Kimin ohjeiden mukaisesti siten, että olin lähdössä noin puolessa välillä ensimmäistä putkea (2). Then Kim guided me to go and start from half way of the first tube (2). When I started there, I had time to comfortably take Gala with me and guide her to jump 4 and in to the tube 5. 

2. Toinen ongelma samassa paikassa oli, että Gala tarvitsee laskeutumistilaa eli Gala haluaa, että hypyssä on tilaa laskeutua, jos näin ei ole, hyppyäkään ei tehdä. Monta kertaa hyppy neljä tuli mentyä ohitse ja kurvattua suoraan putkeen 5. 3. Kepeille kaartamisessa hypyltä 10 täytyi ottaa todella tiukka linja. Tein siinä valssin hypyn 10 jälkeen. Sain tehtyä siten kaarroksen todella mukavasti. Galalla on pieni imu aina kepeille, joten se helpotti hommaa. Kepeillä huomasimme sen, että jos kuljen liian hitaasi, Gala hukkaa rytmin suorittaa kepit. Kun ylläpidin vauhtia, rytmi säilyi. Lisäksi meillä oli kolme ohjuria paikallaan - yksi alussa ja kaksi lopussa. She has a bit of a hunger to do them. With sticks, we found that if I walk too slow, Gala looses the rhythm and sticks fail. When I keep up the pace, the rhythm was maintained. In addition, we had three guides in position - one at the beginning and two at the end. That way I was able to train exiting towards jump 12.

4. Esteet 12 ja 13 tuottivat meille ongelmia. Gala on putkiherkkä eli putket ovat hänestä kivoja. Kuitenkin kääntö hypyltä 12 hypylle 13 ja siitä eteenpäin renkaalle 14 olivat vaikeita. Tässä Galalla oli hukassa, mitä minä haluan ja minne haluan mennä. Aluksi opettelimme hitaasti kaarroksen oikealle hypyltä 13 namikupin kanssa. After that, we started to add clear instructions where we head after the jump. Finally, we found that the Gala also carefully observes that there is no collision course for her and I. When I went around the tube 5, I ran too tightly towards jump 13. That way we were on a collision course. When I corrected my course, so that I ran first towards obstacle 12 and from there to jump 13, Gala flew like a dream. No problems whatsoever. 

Opimme jälleen siis paljon uusia asioita yhteistyöstämme. Suosittelen jokaiselle näitä kursseja, kun ulkopuolinen kouluttaja saapuu vieraaksemme. Omassa koulukunnassamme näämme asiat usein samalla tavalla, ja ulkopuolinen voi antaa siihen tapaan parannuksia. Kiitos siis Kimille koulutuksesta! Oli antoisaa ja mukavaa! / We learn so many new things of our cooperation. I recommend each of these courses, when an external trainer will arrive as our guest. In our own training sessions with familiar coaches we see things often in the same way, but an outsider can provide us lot of improvements. So thank you for Kim of the training! It was a productive and enjoyable!

Mikan ja Bablon kisamatkaa tuettu! / Pleasant way to help a friend!

Möllien rata / Track for the beginners.

Kävimme tänään tukemassa Mikan ja Bablon kisamatkaa Norjaan eli agiepiksissä OKK:n kentällä Haukkukeitaalla. Mika toimi siellä tuomarina ja teki myös radat. / We spent this evening at OKK's agility track at Haukkukeidas. There were unofficial agility competition to fund Mika Kangas and Bablo to Norway. Mika was the judge and did the tracks for us.

Kävimme Galan ja Monan kanssa myös kokeilemassa möllien rataa ja hauskaahan meillä oli. Teimme radat kaksi kertaa. Palkinnoille emme päässeet, mutta hauskaa meillä oli. Olin innostunut kahdesta asiasta: / I tried the beginners track with Mona and Gala. We did it twice, but we didn't made to top three. It is ok, because we went there to train and I was all excited about two things: 
1) Gala pysyi paikallaan niin, että pääsin aloituksessa melkein putken suulle eli esteelle kaksi ottamaan neidon vastaan. / First! Gala sat still and I was able to walk to almost to the obstacle two and start from there. 
2) Mona rallatteli radan omalla tavallaan, mutta loppuun asti. / Second! This was Mona's first ever competition, so I was proud that my little girl ran the track with her own way but all through!

Hieman Mona oli hämillään paikasta, koirista ja ihmisistä, mutta tykkäsi hommasta, joten hauskaa oli. Olen onnellinen näistä kahdesta. Taas kerron saman virren, mutta kunhan saan oman kuntoni kohdilleen. Eräs agilitykaverimme olikin sanonut Petrille, että aina, kun katson radalle, Henna on kisaamassa siellä. Montako koiraa teillä oikein on? / Mona was a bit overly excited about the place and all the people and dogs, but I was so happy. Now I tell the same tale all over again - I need to get into a shape. I need to use my legs properly and get to that speed which I had in my old times. 

Alla vielä tuloskorttimme. Enää Galan kanssa emme tehneet sitä 90 + virhettä, vaan pääsimme 10 ja 5 virheellä tällä kertaa. Aikakin oli aika hyvä molemmissa. / At the bottom of this post you can find pictures of our track papers. Gala didn't do any magical numbers like last time, but we survived the track with only 5 and 10 - no 90 +. Time was quite good too. 

 

Petri ja Viivi 3. luokkaan / Petri and Viivi Got the Ticket to 3rd Class in Agility

Niinhän siinä kävi, että Petri ja Viivi pääsivät viimein kolmanteen luokkaan agilityssä. Olihan se taistojen takana, mutta nyt Virpiniemessä kesäkuussa tämä tapahtui. Tuomarina oli Salme Mujunen ja aika -14,92 ja vauhti 4,47 m/s. / Finally Petri and Viivi rose to 3rd class in agility and now the real competing can start. There was some struggles, but it happened. Judge was Salme Mujunen. Winning time was -14,92 ja speed 4,47 m/s.

Siitä alkoikin kovat suunnittelut, mitä sitten, mitä lähdetään tavoittelemaan seuraavaksi. Haaveena ovat SM-kisat ja MM-karsinnat. Niillä kisoilla on tietyt vaatimukset. / Now we started planning, what next. Petri has a dream of competing in the Finnish Championships and take part in World Cup qualifiers. These competitions have their own requirements.

Nollatuloksia pitää olla saatu vähintään kolmelta (3) eri tuomarilta. / A dog must reach during the next 12 months in 3rd class at least seven (7) zero results. Two of them (2) can be from the jump track. Zero results must contain at least one (1) double zero result. Zero results must be obtained from at least three (3) different judges.

MM-karsintoihin vaaditaan seuraavaa: / You can compete in the World Cup qualifiers if:

• Koirakon tulee olla saavuttanut vuoden aikana 3. lk:ssa vähintään seitsemän (7) nollatulosta. Nollatuloksista kaksi (2) saa olla hyppyradalta. Seitsemän nollatuloksen pitää sisältää vähintään yksi (1) nollavoitto ja kaksi (2) tuplanollatulosta. Nollatuloksia pitää olla saatu vähintään kolmelta (3) eri tuomarilta. / A dog must reached during the next 12 months in the 3rd class for at least seven (7) zero results. Kuinka ottaa erinomainen kuva koirista? / How to Get A Perfect Picture of Your Dogs?

Kesä tekee todella tuloaan. Ilmat ovat lämmenneet, ulkona ei tarvitse enää montaa kerrosta vaatetusta ja hanskatkin saa jättää kotiin (Viivi rakastaa sitä, koska tietää, että nyt on helpompi antaa niitä nakkeja eli koulutuskuukaudet alkavat). Ihanaa aikaa siis tämä alkukevät, kun vielä ei ole niitä verenimijöitä liikenteessä. Lisäksi koirat ovat nauttineet aivan valtavasti siitä, kun ns. "polut ovat auenneet" eli saa juosta muuallakin ja ei uppoa sinne hankeen. Mona etenkin on ottanut siinä vetovastuun ja pienillä näteillä loikkalaukoillaan vetää aina porukkamme mukaan ihmeelliseen mätäsmaailmaan. "Kuka saa minut kiinni, katsotaan!" Lexie siihen vain aina, että: "Nämä sinun häntäkarvasi maistuvat tosi pahoille."

You have to agree, that summer is really coming. The weather has warmed, you don't have to wear outdoors many layers of clothing and even the gloves you can leave at home (Viivi loves it, because she knows that it is now much easier to get those treats and there will be training on the jogs). So this time of early spring is wonderful time, when there is none of those bloodsuckers around yet. In addition, dogs have enjoyed enormously from this so-called "Paths are open" season, when you can run around freely and there is no fear of sinking in the snow. Mona particularly, has taken the lead with her long legs and taken our little gang on nice runs, off-road of course. "Who can catch me, let's see!!" Lexie just says to that: "These tail hairs of yours taste nasty."

Kilpailukuulumisia

Jälkikasvusta on aina ihana lähteä liikkeelle. Himppunen on niin ollut ylpeyteni aihe viime aikoina. Erika ja Lauri ovat pitäneet tästä neitokaisesta huolta uskomattomalla tavalla. Himppuahan ei tietystikään voi olla rakastamatta, ja neidolle ei voi olla antamatta kaikkea sitä hellyyttä, mitä Himppu kaipaa. Nolla-jahti on aloitettu ja toivottavasti pian saamme syödä luokkanousukakkuset.

Telling nice tales of the offspring is always a wonderful way to start. I am so proud of our little Himppunen. Erika and Lauri have taken care of this young lady in an incredible way. Himppua of course, can not but love, and you have to give her all the affection, what she needs. Himppu and Erika has starten their zero race and hopefully we will soon eat a class rise cakes.

Agilityssä Himppu ja Erika ovat vauhdilla edenneet eteenpäin. Tosin tässä näkee kaiken sen työn, mitä tämä parivaljakko on tehnyt harrastuksen eteen. Toisaalta on ilo katsoa sitä vauhtia, mikä sillä neidolla on. Ilmeisesti tuulisen miehen jälki näkyy jälkikasvussa eli kiitos Vind vauhtigeeneistä. Samaa on myös kaikissa Alfa-pentueemme pennuissa - Galassa, Arwenissa ja Velhossa.

In agility Himppu and Erika are rapidly made progress. However, in this progress we see all the hard work, what this duo has done. On the other hand it is a pleasure to look at the speed with which Himppu has. Apparently, windy man has gives his best speed genes to this lot, so thanks to Vind of this pace. The same is also with all Alfa-litter puppies - Gala, Arwen and Velho.

Kävimme Galan kanssa kokeilemassa OKK:n epävirallisissa agilitykisoissa menoamme. Sitä menoahan neidissä on, ja paljon. Valitettavasti emännän jalat eivät ole tarpeeksi nopeat, että pysyisin perässä. Radalla ei tarvita kuin yksi pieni herpaannus ohjauksessa ja se on menoa. Näin meille sitten kävi - 90 + virhettä. Olihan katsojilla hauskaa! Me emme luovuttaneet ja tulleet radalta pois.

I tried an unofficial agility competition with Gala. There is lots of speed in this girl. Unfortunately, my legs are too slow, so that I could keep up with her. When we are on the track, we need just one distraction and all goes to hell. That is what happened and the result was 90+ points. After all, viewers had lots of fun! We didn't give up. 

Viivi ja Petri kalastelevat myös viimeistä nollaansa 2. luokasta. Heillä nousu ja kehitys on ollut loistavaa. On ollut ihana seurata miestä ja hänen innostustaan lajiin. Koira on loistava ja toisaalta miehellä on treenattavana toinen loistava koira eli Arwen. Siellä on vauhtia ja vaarallisia tilanteita tulossa, mutta Arwen on Galaan verrattaen huomattavasti helpompi tapaus eli adhd puuttuu.

Viivi and Petri are now fishing their last zero in the 2nd class. They have development a lot this winter again. It's been wonderful to follow a man and his enthusiasm for the sport. The dog is brilliant, and on the other hand man has another great dog, Arwen, on the training track too. There is speed and dangerous situations coming, but when you compare Arwen to Gala, she is much easier case - ADHD is missing.

Lexien kanssa olemme myös kehittyneet kovasti eteenpäin. Ennen talvea ongelmamme oli kepit ja keinu ja yleensäkin kontaktit. Lähdimme sitten treenaamaan niitä tosissamme. Kiitos ihanalle ohjaajallemme Tiina Sauvolalle kovasta työstä kanssamme. Nyt kepit menevät ilman ohjureita ja keinulle uskallamme nousta jo omalla tavallamme. Se oli ilo huomata epävirallisissa kisoissa, vaikka lelun tippumisen takia saimme hylätyn suorituksen.

With Lexie, we have also developed much further. Before winter we were struggling with the swing and with the poles. We wanted to train those a lot. Thank you for our wonderful instructor Tiina Sauvola of all the hard work she did with us. Now we do poles without guides and the seesaw we dare to do on our own style. It was a pleasure to note in that unofficial agility competition, although due to the drop of the toy we got disqualified.

Samoissa kisoissa pääsimme Sarin kuvattavaksi. Sari oli pystyttänyt kokeilumielessä esteen ja kuvauspisteen erääseen nurkkaan hallia. Siellä sai käydä kokeilemassa vauhtikuvaa koirastaan. Kävimme tietysti kokeilemassa tyttöjemme kanssa siellä, ja tulos (kuten aina Sarin kanssa) oli loistava. Ainoina kokeilimme parihyppyä. Tämä piti tilata kotiin kopioksikin. At the Animagi Areena there were a place where you could take a agility style photoes. Our friend Sari had set up an experimental photobooth with an obstacle, flashes on the both side of it and a camera pointing up to the obstacle. Anyone was able to go there and try it out with Sari. We did it too with our both girls - Viivi ja Lexie, and I must say that the result (as always with Sari) was fantastic. We were the only ones who tried a duojump. Kennelkuulumisia

Punkeista on varoiteltu paljon ja niitä olemmekin seurailleet tehokkaasti. Valitettavasti tämä ei riittänytkään, jonka huomasin tässä alkuviikosta. Meidän laumastamme Lexie on aina ollut innostuessaan aivastelija. Maanantaina olimme lähdössä lenkille ja tytöthän innostuvat siitä aina. Lexie pärski normaaliin tapaan, mutta samaan kuoroon liittyivät myös Arwen ja Gala. Silloin ihmettelin, että mikä nuha meille on tullut. Aluksi mietin, että viikonloppu oli ollut kuuma ja kuiva eli ilma oli todella pölyinen ja tunkkainen kaikkialla. Sama jatkui sitten tiistaina, mutta illalla alkoivat myös röhinät. Lexie aloitti sen ensin, sitten Gala ja myös Arwen. Tämä vahvisti epäilyni - nenäpunkkitartunta. Keskiviikkona soitinkin eläinlääkärille, ja puhelinkonsultaation kautta saimme nenäpunkkilääkkeet suoraan lähiapteekkiimme - koko laumalle. Tämmöisessä tapauksessa ei voi lääkitä vain yhtä, vaan samalla pitää hoitaa koko lauma. Lisäksi meillä menee nyt sitten pyykkiin ja pesuun kaikki punkat ja alustat. Lisäksi häkit ja kaikki saavat tehodesifioinnin. Lääkekuuri kestää sen vaivaiset 4 vk, joten hei hei kaikki harrastukset siksi aikaa. Eipä mennä mätsäreihin, eikä agilitykisoihin. The season of ticks has started and we have been keeping our eyes open. Unfortunately, this was not enough, which I noticed in the beginning of this week. Our Lexie has always sneezed when she gets excited. On Monday we were getting ready for a run and our girls always get really excited. Lexie made sneezes in the normal way, but at the same time Arwen and Gala started to do it too. Then I wondered, that do they have some common cold or what. At first, I wondered, that the weekend had been hot and dry, so the weather outside was really dusty and musty everywhere. The same thing then continued on Tuesday, but in the evening they started to do those swine kind of oink oink's. Lexie started it first, then Gala and also Arwen. This confirmed my suspicion - nose tick infection. On Wednesday, I called to veterinarian, and we did a phone consultation about those nose ticks. After the call we god a subscription directly to our nearest pharmacy - for the whole gang. In these cases you can not medicate just one, but at the same time you have to care the entire herd. In addition, we are going to wash all the bunks and platforms. In addition to the cages and all those will get power disinfection treatment. The course of medication will last four weeks, so bye-bye to all our hobbies. We cannot go to a match show or to an agility competitions. We want to think about the others. Our medication is MILBEMAX Vet. We eat one tablet / week / dog. I hope this is an effective drug.

Asiointi oli hauskaa niin eläinlääkärin kuin sitten apteekkarienkin kanssa. Eläinlääkäri lupasi lääkkeet torstaina apteekkiin. Tästä piti tulla ilmoitus tekstiviestinä. En ollut saanut sitä klo 16 mennessä torstaina, joten päätin soitella eläinlääkärille. Aluksi vastaanottotäti oli hieman epäileväinen, ja ei oikein muistanut asiaa. Sitten, kun käytin avainsanaa "sheltti", täti sanoi heti sen jälkeen: "Ai niin! Se shelttilauma, jossa oli lääkkeet kaikille." Tämän jälkeen sain vahvistuksen, että se oli toimitettu lähiapteekkiin. On the other hand it was fun to talk with the veterinarian and with the pharmacists. The vet promised medicines for Thursday. He would call to the pharmacy. They would inform me about that with a message. I had not received it on Thursday at 16 o'clock, so I decided to phone to the vet. At first, the woman in the reception was a little skeptical, and did not remember our case. Then, when I used the keyword "Sheltie" the womand immediately said: "Oh yeah, that sheltie heard - medicines for all." Subsequently, I received confirmation that it had been delivered to the nearby pharmacy. Since Kempele has two pharmacies - center and Zeppelin, I had to call to both of them, whether our prescription was there. I had it right with the first call, but also there the woman at reception was a bit skeptical at first, while I used the keyword "Sheltie". This woman also said immediately: "Oh yeah! The herd of five dogs. Yes, the recipe is here." When we went to pick it up on Thursday afternoon from the pharmacy, even then our dog family was a special thing. "We don't have enough of those medicines in stock. If we give this first batch now, and then you can come and pick up the rest next week? You had such a big number of these dogs."

Nyt olemme siis tauolla 4 viikkoa. Katsotaan juhannukselta tai oikeastaan varmaan juhannuksen alta sitten treenejä. Sen aikaa teemme siis vain kotitreenausta omalla alueellamme. Kesäloma alkaakin 3. kesäkuuta, joten minulla ei ole muuta kuin aikaa.

Now we are on a break for 4 weeks. Let's try it out near the midsummer or actually probably before it, and think about rehearsing. Before it, therefore, we only do home training in our own area. Summer vacation starts on June 3, so I have all the time I need.

Pidimme myös pienen arkitrimmauskurssin kasvattiemme omistajille eli Erikalle. Sai muutkin tulla, mutta osanotto oli harmillisen vähäistä. Saatiin käytyä läpi, miten leikataan koiralta tassukarvat ja korvakarvat. Miten hoidetaan tassut ja muut. Erika otti ihan tosissaan treenin ja oli kyllä loistava oppilas.

We also kept a small trimming lesson for our puppy owners - in other words for Erika, because she was only one who attended. There I showed how to trim ears and paws correctly for basic needs. Erika took lessons seriously and was certainly a brilliant student. 

Yllättäviä tuloksia! / Surprising Results!

Viime viikolla kävimme pitkästä aikaa agilitykisoissa Petrin ja koiriemme kanssa. Teemu kävi hieromassa Viivin ja Lexien kuntoon viikolla, joten oli hyvä mennä kisaamaan paikat varmoina. Nostin kesän lopulla Viivin 2. luokkaan, joten nyt Petrillä oli helppo aloittaa oma tekeminen puhtaalta pöydältä. He tekivätkin hyvää tulosta viikonloppuna. Mona kävi tiistaina tällä viikolla perusrakennetutkimuksissa - polvet, kyynärät, lonkat ja silmät. Niistä enemmän kohta. Last week, we went to an agility competition in Oulu with Petri and the dogs. Teemu massaged our girls - Viivi and Lexie - so they were up to the challenge. I did the last zero with Viivi, so she could move to the 2nd class, so now Petri had an easy start for making his own zeroes. He did a good job in that this weekend. Mona was checked out on Tuesday this week, the basic structure of the body - knees, elbows, hips and eyes. I'll tell more later. Otherwise, life at the Elentarion kennel has been quite ordinary and full of doggy things.

Agilitykisat - OKK 12. - 13.3.2016

Oulun Koirakerho järjesti maaliskuun kisansa viimeisenä hiihtolomaviikonloppuna. Petri oli ilmoittanut Viivin kolmeen starttiin 2 luokassa, ja minä Lexien kahteen starttiin 1 luokassa. Tuomareina oli Allan Mattsson ja Tomas Berglund. Petrin kanssa osallistuimme Allanin radoille. Lisäksi viikonloppuna kisaamassa oli myös kasvattimme Himppu (Elentarion Luthien Tinuviel). Erika ja Himppu aloittivat urakkansa 1. luokassa.

Petrin kisat olivat loistavat - 2 nollatulosta ja 1 rata pienellä virheellä. Samalla mies sai kalastettua 2 LUVAa sijoittuen hyppyradalla 2. ja perusradalla hän vei Viivin kanssa luokkavoiton. Alla radat ihasteltavaksi.

Oulu Dog Club held an agility competition on the last weekend of our ski holiday. Petri announced Viivi to three starts in 2nd class, and I took two starts with Lexie in the 1st class. The judges were Allan Mattsson and Tomas Berglund. We had the opportunity to anntend only on Allan's tracks. In addition, one of our puppies from A-litter, Himppu (Elentarion Luthien Tinuviel), attented in the competition too. Erika and Himppu began their career through 1st class . Petri's tracks were superb - 2 zero tracks and one track with a small error. At the same time Petri got two LUVA aka results, what you need before you can compete in 3rd class. On more to go! Lexien kanssa meillä radat eivät sujuneet niin helposti, mutta saimme erään saavutuksen tehtyä radalla eli keinun suoritettua omatoimisesti. Aluksi kieltäydyimme sinne menemästä, mutta sitten menimme ja teimme sen omin avuin. Tätä lähdemme tehostamaan, että Lexie ottaisi oman tavan suorittaa keinu, koska vauhtia meillä on paljon.

Our competiton with Lexie wasn't that good. But if you have to find something positive, then I could say, that our swing went amazingly. It was her first time to do it on her own. Hopefully we can correct it in the future.

Erika and Himppu did an amazing job too and got the breeder to cry out of joy. They took first zero and LUVA. They gave me more than I hoped for. Here's the track to see it yourself.

Mona ja terveystarkki 15.3.2016, Eläinsairaala Evidensia

Älkää pelästykö nimeä, koska Animagi vaihtui toiseksi Oulussa. Ella Saarenpää oli pistänyt pystyyn joukkotarkastuksen, ja ilmoittauduimme mukaan. Odotukset olivat korkealla ja jännäriä oli omistajallakin ilmassa, kun kävelin sisään ovesta. Paikalla oli muutama shelttikaverikin, jotka heti kiinnostivat. Maksupäätteellä asioinnin jälkeen aloitimme lomakeurakan. Lisäksi, koska silmätarkastus oli ensimmäisenä, piti meidän saada turrutustipat laitettua silmään. Onneksi Mona on sen verran mukava veijari, että tippojen laitto ei ollut ongelma. Neiti iloisesti tarjosi päätään ja minä tipautin tipat silmiin.

Do not be alarmed of the name, because Animagi changed its name to that one in the beginning of this year. Ella Saarenpää arranged a group audit, so we jumped right in it. Expectations were high and the owner had chills when we walked in the door. There were a few shelties there, who immediately interested our Mona. After the payment transactions, we started to fill those forms. In addition, since the eye examination was first, I had to put eye drops to Mona 3 times before going in for that examination. Fortunately, Mona is so nice critter that putting those drops in was not a problem. Miss cheerfully offered her head to me and I drip drops in her eyes.

Pian olikin meidän vuoromme astua sisään ja tutkittavaksi. Polvet käytiin lävitse ensin. Molemmat olivat hyvässä kunnossa. Ehkä toisessa oli lääkärin mielestä pientä väljyyttä, mutta ei mainitsemisenarvoisesti. Seuraavaksi vuorossa olivat silmät. Mieleeni muistui Arwenin tutkinta, kun lääkärit ihmettelivät yhdessä silmiä. Nyt kuulin ihanat sanat: "Kirkkaat silmät, ei haituvia. Ei ylimääräisiä ripsiä." Soon, it was our turn to step in and be examined. Knees were first. Both were in good condition. Perhaps the second was a bit loose, but not so much that to be mentioned. Next were the eyes. It reminded me of Arwen's examination, when the doctors were checking her eyes, and then one of them said something about oddness in her eyes. Now I heard the wonderful words: "Bright eyes, not fluffs. No extra lashes." Then the doctor gave a sedative to Mona in the butt cheek, so that the dog lady could be exported to x-ray and to hip and elbow check unconscious.

Odotusaulassa ei kestänyt kauaa, kun neiti nukahti unten maille. Lääkäri kävi koppaamassa neidin mukaansa ja vei tutkittavaksi. I didn't have to wait in the lobby long, when our little one fell asleep. Then the doctor came and took our little sleeping beauty for examination. I don't remember, when have I been this nervous last time, while I was waiting for the results and notice that the lady is in the recovery room. Soon the call was made and I was able to have a look at the x-rays and our little lady in recovery room. Hip photos were good and elbows excellent. Kennel Club will give their opinion of them. Mistä meidät löytää? / Where to find us?

On taas tullut aika päivittää asioita tänne meidän blogiimme. Elämä on joskus hiljaista ja mitään ei tapahdu - tai tapahtuu, mutta kauhealla vauhdilla. Työkiireiden ja kaiken muun sekamelskan takia aika kuluu siivillä. Kesä on ollut hyvin rauhallista aikaa näyttelyineen ja agilitykilpailuineen. Lisäksi olemme ehtineet hieman nautiskellakin ja ottaa rennosti. Syksykin on hurahtanut ihmetellessä asioita. Kasvattajan näkökulmasta on ollut ihana seurata Monan kasvua, toisaalta oppia uutta edellisen pentueemme tyttösistä. Sheltti on upea koira - sen on huomannut tänä vuonna niin monella tapaa.

It is again time to update things from our world here to our blog. Life is sometimes quiet and nothing will happen - or happens, but with a terrible pace. Due to the pressures of work and everything else the time flies. Summer has been very restful time with some dog shows and agility competitions. In addition, we have been able to enjoy a little bit and take it easy. Autumn has been the time for wondering about things. From breeder's point of view, this time has been wonderful. I have had lots of time to follow Mona's growth, on the other hand to learn new things out of our girls from previous litter. Sheltie is gorgeous and wonderous dog - I have noticed this in so many ways.

Puheenjohtajana Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:ssä

Tänä vuonna olen toiminut puheenjohtaja Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:ssä. Mukanani toiminnassa ovat olleet upeat hallituslaiseni. Heidän kanssaan on ollut ihana tehdä töitä ja saan kiittää heitä paljosta. Tänä vuonna tehokkaimmaksi ajaksi voisi katsoa nimenomaan kesän ja syksyn. Keväällä teimme ns. kurssitoimintaa, ja harjoittelimme yhteistyötä hallituslaisten kanssa. Kesä meni suunnitellessa syksyä ja syksyllä toteutimme paljon. Teimme yhdessä Shetlanninlammaskoirat ry:n kanssa sivuerikoisnäyttelyn Nallikarissa, järjestimme agilityviikonlopun yhdessä kouluttajamme Iina Asunnan kanssa, järjestimme luonnetestin Haukiputaalla sekä vielä suuren suuren match show'n Oulunsalossa Kalakaverin kanssa. Mukana oli ihania ihmisiä, joiden panosta edelleen arvostan niin suuresti. Siten olenkin tässä vuoden aikana kypsytellyt mielessäni ajatusta, että voisin jatkaa ensi vuoden puheenjohtajana, jos yhdistysläiseni näin haluavat. Toimintaa olisi mukava kehittää nyt entisestään. Saada siihen pysyvyyttä ja selkeän rungon.

This year I have served as Chairman of the Northern Finland Shelties Association. With me in action there has been a spectacular board of members. With them I have had the pleasure to work with and I truly like to thank them for that. This year, the most effective period of time has been the summer and the autumn. In the spring, we made the so-called course activities and practiced the new job at hand together. Summer went into designing the autumn and in the autumn we carried out a lot. We worked together with The Finnish Shetland Sheepdog Association and did a side special exhibition at Nallikari, we organized an agility weekend, together with the trainer Iina Asunta, we organized a nature test for dogs in Haukipudas, and yet we did a great great match show in Oulunsalo with Kalakaveri. There were wonderful people, whose input I still appreciate so much. Thus, I have been thinking about it a lot, and I think that I would like to continue as chairman next year, if other members wish so. It would be nice to develop our association further - make the organization stabile and build a clear frame to it.

Mona - Susadan Freya

Mona täytti syyskuussa 1 vuotta. Niin tämä meidän neitokainen kasvaa. Täytyy sanoa, että tytöstä on kasvanut varsinainen kaunotar niin mieleltään kuin ulkonäöltään. Harmillisinta tytössä on koko, mutta se olkoot hyve, kun ajattelemme jalostuksellisia tavoitteitamme.

Mona celebrated her first birthday in September. So this is how fast our young lady grows. I must say that the girl has grown to be an actual beauty queen - in mind as in appearance. One fault which I hate is the size, but I will let it be a virtue, when we think of the breeding goals.

Kesällä kävimme Monan kanssa muutamassa näyttelyssä (Ylivieska, Oulu, Muhos), mutta meitä rankaistiin aina koosta. Se hieman jäi harmittamaan, ja siksi emme käyneetkaan kovin monessa näyttelyssä. Annamme neidin kehittyä - tosin tuskin se tuomareiden ajatus koosta muuttuu edes iän mukana. Seuraavana mielessä jalostuksellisesti tietysti silmä-, lonkka-, polvi- ja kyynärkuvaus. Jos niistä saamme vihreää valoa, alkaa todellinen metsästys poikakaverille.

In the summer we went to few shows with Mona (at Ylivieska, Oulu, Finland and Muhos), but we were always punished for our size. It was a little bit disappointed, and that why we did not do so very many shows. We let our little lady to evolve - although hardly the ​​judges will not change their opinion about the size, even with age. The next obstacle before breeding are of course the eye, hip, knee and elbow x-rays. If we get the green light, we will begin the actual hunt for groom.

Mona aloitti syksyllä myös agilityn alkeet Petrin kanssa. Heillä tuntuu toimivan tuo yhteistyö hyvin ja Mona näyttää nauttivan siitä tekemisestä. Hieman korkeat paikat pelottavat, mutta se on ihan normaalia pienelle pennulle. Kaikkeen tottuu treenin myötä.

Mona began the agility with Petri this autumn. They seem to hit it off well and cooperation works well with Mona. Our little girl seems to enjoy it. High places seems to be frightening, but it is quite normal for a small puppy. She will get used to it after time and training.


Viivi - Dash'ing Glamourous Geisha

Viivi nousi kuin nousikin 2. luokkaan kesän lopulla. Petri on yrittänyt pitkään nollaa, mutta aina se on jäänyt pienen virheen taakse (kerran jopa virheettömästä suorituksesta ei saatu nollaa). Petri on treenannut neitiä todella paljon koko kesän ja yhteistyö alkoi lopulta toimia. Harmillisesti Petri loukkasi jalkansa, ja jalka jouduttiin kipsaamaan. Tämä tarkoitti pientä taukoa kisaamisesta. Henna sitten otti ohjat käsiin ja viimeisteli kesken jääneen työnsä eli nosti neidin kakkosiin, että Petri pääsee puhtaalta pöydältä tekemään tulosta. Upeasti neiti liitelikin, vaikka hieman hakemista olikin. Ohjaajalla ei vain vauhti meinannut pysyä päällä.

Viivi rose to 2nd class at the end of the summer. Petri has been trying for a long time to get the last zero, but always there has been a little mistake on the track (once even a flawless performance was not a zero). Petri has been working out a lot with Viivi this summer, and their co-operation has developed a lot during the summer. Unfortunately Petri hurt his leg, and the leg had to be plastered for two weeks. This meant a small break from racing. Henna then took the lead and finished her unfinished work with Viivi and lifted her to 2nd class so that Petri can start from clear table. On track Viivi exquisitely flew, although there were a bit more searching that with Petri. The pilot had a hard time to keep up with the dog.

Lexie - Kråkeslottets Miss Lexus

Lexien kanssa on ollut hieman hankalaa ja taistelua, vaikkakin agilityhommat ovat hiljalleen alkaneet rullata eteenpäin. Neidistä on vaikka mihin, mutta ohjaajasta ei. Ohjaaja tuntee olonsa todella huonokuntoiseksi ja ylipainoiseksi. Haaveena olisi talvikaudella saada pois painoa. Sitten olisimme terveempi tiimi. Nyt tuntuu jotenkin, että molempien jaksaminen hidastaa meidän hommaa. Yritämme keksiä keinoja saada asia kuntoon.

With Lexie we have had a little bit difficulties and struggle, although agility has slowly begun to roll forward. Our little lady has it in her, even though the pilot does not. Pilot feels really unfit and overweight. Our dream would be during the winter season to lose the extra weight. Then we would have a healthier team. Now I feel somehow that our both endurance slows our development. We are trying to come up with a plan how we are able to win this fight.

Näyttelyissä Lexie selvisi kesällä keskinkertaisesti. ERI-linjalle pääsimme takaisin kesän viimeisissä näyttelyissä, mutta jokin Lexiessä on, mikä ei tuomareiden silmää miellytä. Sitä pyrimme nyt hakemaan. Ehkä laihduttaminen antaisi neitiin uutta eloa.

In shows Lexie survived the summer averagely. We got back to EXC-line in the last summer's exhibitions, but there seems to be something in Lexie, which doesn't meet the eye with judges. We now try to find it out, what that may be - weight, movement? 

Gala ja Arwen - Elentarion Galadriel ja Arwen Undomiel

Gala ja Arwen ovat koko kesän juosseet mukanamme agilitytreeneissä. Kehitystä on tapahtunut, vaikkakin takapakkiakin on tullut. Saimme molemmille talvitreenipaikankin, joten olemme nyt kehittyneet huomattavasti. Arwen ja Petri ovat loistavia, samoin Hennalla ja Galallakin on alkanut luistaa homma. Tytöt kehittyvät valtavasti koko ajan. Heidän luontaisia vaistojaan moneen asiaan on ihana seurata. Toisaalta molemmilla heistä on todella kylmä pää moneen asiaan eli mikään ei kauheasti pelota kumpaakaan. Galan bravuureita on irtoaminen. Kun Lexie on kiinni aina ohjaajassaan, Gala on ihan päinvastoin. Voin sanoa kentän toiselta laidalta puomin ja neiti juoksee sinne. Aika hienoa?

Gala and Arwen have run throughout the summer with us in agility training. We have made a lot of progress, although there have been few setbacks. We got groups for both in winter training, so we have now evolved considerably. Arwen and Petri are great, as well Henna and Gala have found the same language. Girls develop tremendously all the time. Their natural instincts to many things is wonderful to follow. On the other hand both of them are very cool-headed. There are not so many things they are afraid of. Gala is good at independent work. When Lexie is close or near the pilot, Gala is just the opposite. I can say from the other side of the track "a bridge" and Gala runs and does it. Sounds great, does it?

Arwen osoitti liitotaitoja tuossa aikaisemmin syksyllä. Petri ja Arwen harjoittelivat A-kontaktia. Arwen juoksi A:n muutaman kerran ylitse normaalisti, mutta sitten alkoi neiti hieman kuumentua. Seuraavaksi A juostiin vauhdilla, ponkaistiin korkeimmalta kohdalta ilmaan niin, että liito jatkui n. 2,5 metrissä kauas A:sta. Arwen showed off her flying skills in the autumn. Petri and Arwen practiced the A-contact. Arwen did the A over a couple of times normally, but then she started run a bit hot. Next time she speeded up the A, and then at the highest point of the A, she jumped in the air, so that she continued to fly in the air - about in 2.5 meters - away from the A. Then she dropped down from there, and we were both startled with Petri that she must have broken something when she hit the floor. This did not happen, but she went towards A like nothing happened. We christened her "reikäpää" - our little flying black girl.

Muutama vinkki pysyä kiireisenä / Few Tips for Busy Life with Dogs

Kennel Elentarionissa on muutama kuukausi vain oltu ja tehty töitä. Kevät on kiireisintä aikaa niin opiskelijalle kuin opettajallekin, ja se on näkynyt. Keikkatyö Kemissä ja päätyö Oulussa eivät ole helpottaneet arkea. Petrikin on tehnyt niin opintojaan kuin sitten Valmennuskeskuksen opetuksiaan. Onneksi kesä tuli viimein!

Our kennel has live a very quiet life these past few months. All what we have done has been our daily work. Spring is the busiest time as a student and as a teacher, and we really have felt it. Working in two places - in Kemi and in Oulu - has not eased up our daily life. Petri has had his studies and teaching job too. Fortunately, the summer is here - now - enjoy!

Viivi 6 vuotta - Our little Geisha turned 6 years old

Viivi täytti 16.5. 6 vuotta. Nyt esikoisshelttineitimme alkaisi olemaan aikuisen naisen iässä. Turhat pentumaisuudet on karistettu pois (ainakin luulemme niin), ja harrastuksissa keskittymiskykyä voisi olla enemmän. Aika kuluu nopeasti. / Our Geisha - Viivi - turned 6 years old on 16th of May. Now our first sheltie starts to be a full grown sheltie woman. There is no puppy like behavior anymore (or we think so), and when doing things, the concentration is high. Time really flyes...

Agility

Kesäkauden treenit on aloitettu ja pääsimme viimein viime viikolla ensimmäisen kerran kokeilemaan treenaamista. Taukoa pidimme ihan tarkoituksella, että josko kaikki typerä käyttäytyminen unohtuisi. Lisäksi Gala aloitti nyt viimein oikean aksaamisen eli ohjatun treenaamisen. Ensimmäinen kertamme ei ollut helppo, koska samassa ryhmässä on myös Himppu. Alussa tytöt laukkasivat toistensa luokse aina, kun siihen avautui mahdollisuus. Ei ohjaajaa kannata kuunnella.

Summer training season has started and we were able to start them too finally last week for the first time. We took a little break deliberately that if all the silly behavior of ours could be forgotten. In addition, Gala is now finally starting  her road to stardom in agility. Our first time was not easy, because in the same training group we also have our "little" sister Himppu. In the beginning the girls raced over to each other whenever there opened up an opportunity to do so. They didn't listen at all. "Thou shall not listen thou master".

Gala oli kuitenkin aika nopea tyttö oppimaan ja saimmekin tehtyä putki- ja hyppytreeniä hieman. Kovasti pitää tehdä töitä, että saamme neidin edes lähellekään Himpun tasoa. Himppu oli treeneissä kyllä ihan primustavaraa. Oli ihana katsoa neidin menoa kentällä. Vauhtia piisaa, vaikka pieni neitokainen onkin. Samalla mieleeni hiipivät ajatukset Velhosta, ja siitä, kuinka Velhon agilityura etenee. Silmä tai ei, jos koira nauttii hommastaan, sen pitäisi sitä tehdä. Toivottavasti Pialla on ollut aikaa harrastaa. Pia lähettikin muutaman kuvan Velhostamme. Iso poika siitä on kasvanut, vaikkakin pystykorva.

However, the Gala was pretty fast learner and we got the girl in pipe and do couple of jumps after a little workout. There is lot of hard work ahead, so that we can be anywhere near the level of the little lady Himppu. Himppu is so good at it - so good. It was amazing to look at that little girl to do the track. Lots of speed in those little legs. At the same time my mind started to think about Velho, and how Velho's agility is proceeding. Two eyes or one, if your dog enjoys it, then you should do it. Hopefully, Pia has had time to practice agility with Velho. Pia sent some pictures of Velho. Big boy already, although pointy ears...

Lexien kanssa menimme myös treenaamaan samana päivänä. Teemu kävi edellisellä viikolla hieromassa neitiä, ja olimmekin sitten treenivalmiita tämän viikon koitoksiin. Olin yllättynyt, kuinka kivasti meillä meni yksiin. Kun ohjaaja muistaa pitää selkänsä suorana, Lexie ohjautuu nätisti esteille. Puomi ja A menivät todella hienosti, kun askellus menee oikeisiin kohtiin. Lopussa myös keinullekin mentiin omaehtoisesti, eikä enää pelätty. Autoin tosin alaslaskussa kädelläni niin, että tömähdys oli pehmeä, ei kova. Meillä menee yksiin mukavasti. Vauhtiakin tuli lisää, kun nostin tosiaan itseni pystyyn.

With Lexie we had our own training group on the same day. Teemu had massaged our lady in shape the week before, so we were ready to do our workout. I was surprised how nicely we did all. When I remember to keep my backs straight, Lexie goes nicely to the obstacles. Bridge and the A went really well, as long as the contact surfaces are touched correctly. At the end of session the swing was done on her own, and no longer with fear. I helped a bit though when the swing went down, so that the thump was soft, not hard. We have paired up nicely. We have bit more speed, when I lift myself up.

Näyttelyt - Dog Show's

Ilmoitin viimein kesälle tyttösemme ensimmäisiin näyttelyihin. Tyttösillä tarkoitan Monaa ja Lexietä. Lähdemme nyt takaisin näyttelymaailmaan pienen tauon jälkeen. Katsotaan, mitä tulokset tuovat tullessaan. Lexie olisi kiva saada ainakin kahden sertin tytöksi. Monalle taas olisi mukava saada näyttelymaailma auki. Ensimmäinen näyttelymme on siis Muhos kesäkuun alussa. Pidetään peukkuja. Koitamme saada isomman neidin kiinteytymään lihaksistoltaan, joten se tarkoittaa kovaa treeniä vielä kuukauden ajan. Toivottavasti ponnistelumme tuottavat tulosta.

I announced our girls - Lexie and Mona - in the first dog show's for this summer. We're going to back there after a little break. Let's see what the results will bring on our way. It would be nice to hunt down the second certificate for Lexie. To Mona it would be nice to show the dog show world. Our first show is at the beginning of June at Muhos. All of you - keep your fingers crossed. We try to train and enhance Lexies muscles, so it means hard training sessions for her. Hopefully, our efforts are giving results in the summer.

Monan kanssa kävimme harjoittelemassa näyttelyä Kaakkurin mätsärissä Vappuna. Olimme aiemmin harjoitelleet pöydällä olemista, mutta emme sitten sitä juoksentelua niinkään. Siellä pääsimme oikeassa paikassa harjoittelemaan liikkumista kehässä. Monan kanssa hilputtelimme sitten pienten sinisten ykköseksi ja lopulta BIS-kehässä olimme 8. Ihan mukavaa, koska tämä oli ensimmäinen show'mme. Oli ihana saada kisan jälkeen muutamalta tuomarilta kehuja kypsästä pennusta, rohkeasta pennusta ja hyvin rauhallisesta pennusta. Päänuppi on siis kohdallaan neitokaisella, mikä on taas yksi ihana sulka jalostustulevaisuutta ajatellen. (Mukavaa merlepoikaa tai trikkipoikaa siis metsästämään...)

We went to practice show behavior with Mona to Kaakkuri match show on Vappu. We had previously been practicing being on the table, but not the running around so much. There we were in the right place to practice the movement in the ring. With Mona we showed ourselves to number one in small blue ring and finally in Best In Show ring we were 8th. It was really nice, because this was the first time in a show for us. After the show It was wonderful to get praises from some of the judges: what a mature puppy, what a brave girl and what a peaceful puppy. Her head is in a right place, which is another lovely feather to our hat of breeding plans. (We are hunting a nice merle boy or tricolor boy...)

Muuta elämää - The other side

Pohjois-Suomen Shelttien puheenjohtajana toimiminen on alkanut hiljalleen luonnistua. Hallituksemme on ihanan ahkeria tyyppejä täynnä, joten uskon, että syksyllä meillä saadaan monta sulkaa hattuumme tapahtumien myötä. Lisäksi nuorkauppakamaritoiminnassa olemme myös hieman kehittyneet ja huomanneet, mitä haluamme saavuttaa. Petri mm. lähti tavoittelemaan henkilökohtaista kunniaa ja saavutti sen - Sanan Säilä 2015 -voitto ei ole pieni juttu. Edessä kesäkuussa reissu Istanbuliin ja EM-voitto on melkein taskussa. Petrin valmistautumista voit seurata Petri Eklundin tie JCI:n puhekilpailussa -blogissa.

Working as a chairman in Northern Finland Sheltie Club has begun to slowly work out. Our board is full of wonderfully hard-working people, so I think that in the fall we have obtained many feathers in our cap with all those events we are going to have. In addition, working in the Junior Chamber activities, has also given a bit of things and we have found out what we want to achieve. Petri wanted to pursue personal glory and reached it - He is the winner of national speech competition Sanan Säilä 2015. The win was not an easy job, but my man nailed it! In the beginning of June he has a trip to Istanbul to compete in European Championship - I can smell the victory already. You can follow Petri by reading his blog about it. It is in Finnish, but hopefully he will translate it in English too.

Kävimme koko poppoolla taas perinteeksi jo muodostuneella Posion reissulla huhtikuussa. Oli ihana lähteä viettämään muutama päivä hiljaisuudessa. Kiitos taas Eerolle, että hän jaksaa meidän kanssa lähteä sinne. Reissu toi taas mielenrauhaa ja ajatukset saivat levätä. Koirat saivat juosta rauhassa maailmassa, missä ei ollut rajoja. Lisäksi järvi oli jäässä, joten jäällä oli ihana laukata sydämensä kyllyydestä. Varsinkin Mona ja Gala nauttivat ravaamisesta. Oli ihana seurata tyttöjen menoa.

We had our traditional weekend at Posio in April. It was wonderful to go to spend a few days in silence. Thank you again to Eero that he wants to take us with him there always. The trip brought back the peace in our minds and all the stress was taken away. The dogs were allowed to run free in a world where there was no boundaries. In addition, the lake was covered with ice, so ice was wonderful place to gallop with their heart's content. Especially Mona and Gala enjoyed running a round and chase each other. It was wonderful to follow the girls.

Kirjoitin muutama vuosi sitten seuraavat sanat: "Ihminen kokee harvoin irtautumisen tunteita nyky-yhteiskunnassa. Jotenkin kiire ja arjen vauhti tempaisevat mukaansa oravanpyörään, jota voi jarruttaa vain työntämällä jalkansa tai kätensä pyörästä ulos ja toivoa, että mitään ei mene rikki siinä jarrutuksessa. I wrote a few years ago the following words: "One rarely experiences the feelings of breaking free in the modern society. Somehow all the hurry and everyday pace snatch you with in to the mouse wheel, which you can only slow down and stop by pushing your feet or hands out and hope that nothing breaks in the process. People around you will look at you with horrified faces, but you are ultimately the only one who will take the step out of the wheel, even though you had around you lots of back patters. When you look back, you will see that wheel soon speeds up and no one came out but you. My destiny was not the same when I stepped out of the mouse wheel, because with me stepped out my heart, my peace and my refuge - Petri". What the future holds, we get to decide and experience it together. Words have not gotten older, even though time has elapsed.

Alkuvuoden kennelissämme on kuhissut omalla tavallaan niin positiivisessa kuin negatiivisessakin mielessä. Siitä enemmän kohta. Petri ja minä olemme palanneet agilityn pariin ja kisoissa olemme olleet ahkerasti. Lisäksi yhdistysmielessä olemme toiminnassa ahkerasti mukana eli Hennasta tehtiin Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n puheenjohtaja vuodelle 2015 ja Petri on mukana hallituksessa sihteerin ja taloudenhoitajan hommissa. Lisäksi toivomme, että saisimme yhdessä edustaa Shetlanninlammaskoirat ry:n hallituksessa. Uusi perheenjäsenemme Mona on kasvanut ja kasvanut sekä hampaatkin ovat onnistuneesti poistuneet huolien listoilta. Pian edessä on 6 kk maaginen raja. Toivottavasti juoksut alkavat pian...

At the beginning of this year, our kennel has had both positive and negative news and tales. More about that soon. Petri and I have returned to the agility ring and we have done couple of races. In addition, we have been very actively involved in activities with the local association, because in February Henna was named as a Chairman of the Northern Finland Shelties Association for the year 2015, and Petri is involved in the board as a secretary and financial manager. In addition, we hope that we can be involved in Main Shetland Sheepdog Association's Board of Directors. A new member of our family Mona has grown and grown up, and her teeth have successfully changed. Soon is time for 6 month celebrations. I hope the heat will start soon...

Alfa-pentue - Velho - Elentarion Legolas

Kuten sanoin johdannossa, meille on sattunut niin positiivisia kuin negatiivisiakin asioita kennelissämme. Negatiiviset vievät valitettavasti voiton tässä jaksossa. Alfa-pentueemme ainoa uros Velho on kokenut kovia. Ensinnäkin Velholla oli peitsari, kuten jo aiemmin sanoinkin. Nyt Velho aloitti eräänä päivänä ihmeellisen siristelyn vasemmalla silmällään. Omistaja Pia vei Velhon lääkäriin ja lääkäri totesi Velhon vasemman silmän olevan melkein sokea ja paineet silmässä olivat vaarallisen koholla. Velho sai lähetteen Turkuun Koira-kissaklinikalle. Velho kävi Turussa tutkimuksissa, mutta diagnoosi ei muuttunut - diagnoosina silmäpainetauti eli glaukooma, jonka käynnisti silmätulehdus. Voitte kuvitella oloni, kun kuulin asiasta. Velho on nyt sitten puolisokea. Kaiken lisäksi pieni poikaseni joutuu mahdollisesti loppuelämäksi tippakuurille, että silmissä paineet pysyvät sopivissa mittasuhteissa. Itkin kurjaa tuuriamme.

As I said in the introduction, we have had both positive and negative news in our kennel. Negative news unfortunately take the upper hand of them all. From our Alfa litter, the only male Velho has taken an another physical blow. First of all, Velho had lance tooth, as we have already told. Now on one day Velho began squinting his left eye. Owner Pia took Velho to the doctor and the doctor said that Velho's left eye was almost blind, and the pressure of the eye was dangerously elevated. Velho got remittance to Turku to Koira-kissaklinikalle. Velho went to the studies at Turku, but the diagnosis did not change - diagnosis was eye pressure disease ie glaucoma, which was initiated by the inflammation of the eye. You can imagine how I felt, when I heard of the matter. Velho is now then half blind for the rest of his life. Moreover, my little boy has will be on a lifelong drip regimen, that the eye pressures will remain in suitable proportions. I cried our miserable luck.

Toinen kenneliämme kohdannut huonohko uutinen oli, että Lexiemme on voinut hieman huonosti. Aina rasituksen jälkeen neidistä on tullut todella vaisu ja apaattinen sekä hieman äreäkin. Kävimme tutkimuksissa ja lääkärimme Kamila Bernasiewicz kuvautti sitten Lexien koko selän. Tuloksena oli, että selästä paljastui lieviä muutoksia selkärangassa eli spondyloosimuutoksia Th3-Th4-rintarangoissa. Kokeilimme lääkärin määräyksestä kipulääkekuurin Lexielle. Oman näkemämme mukaan Lexien olo ei muuttunut suuntaan eikä toiseen. Tämän takia päätimme, että emme lääkkeellä jatka hoitamista turhaan. Laitoimme Lexien laihdutuskuurille. Vuoden alussa paino oli 8 kg. Nyt viimeisimmässä mittauksessa paino oli 7,4 kg, joten alas olemme tulleet ja koirasta on tullut energisempi ja tekevämpi. Jopa leikkiminen nuorempien kanssa on alkanut kiinnostamaan. Toivomme siis parasta, että saisimme viettää vielä muutaman vuoden kipuvapaana. 

Another bad news in our kennel encountered with Lexie. We saw that she has been a bit down and ill. Each time after hard exercise our lady had become really pale and apathetic, as well a little cranky too. We took her to examinations and doctor Kamila Bernasiewicz x-rayed Lexie's whole back. The result was that the back of the shoulder revealed slight changes in the spine, ie spondylosis in 3rd and 4th thoracic spine. We tried out prescription pain medicine at first as a course of treatment. After the treatment we saw that Lexie was feeling same - no change in direction or the other. For this reason, we decided that we do not continue the drug treatment. We decided to put Lexie on a diet. At the of the year weight was 8 kg. Now, the latest survey weight was 7.4 kg, so we have come down a lot and the dog has become more energetic and lively. She is even playing with the young ones. We hope, therefore, that we could spend a few more years pain-free.

Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry

Kennelimme omistajista ovat nyt molemmat toimineet Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n puheenjohtajina - Petri viime vuoden ja minut valittiin vuosikokouksessa tälle vuodelle pj:ksi. Edessä on siis paljon uutta omaksuttavaa ja opittavaa. Mielenkiintoista ja otin haasteen mielelläni vastaan. On ihana päästä tutustumaan tällaiseen yhdistystoimintaan paremmin.

Our kennel owners have now both worked as Chairman of the Northern Finland Shelties Associationr - Petri last year and I was elected at the annual meeting this year. We are therefore facing a lot of new information and studies. It is interesting and I will gladly accept the challenge. It is wonderful to obtain access to such association activities.

This year we are planning a lot of activities. I hope you all are reading our web pages, so you will know what we are doing this year. Especially our Easter Match Show is a one happening that where you should come and attend.

Agility

Olemme tosiaan Petrin kanssa ahkeroineet agilityn parissa. Omilla treenivuoroillamme torstaisin saamme opastusta suoraan ohjaajalta, mutta sitten olemme nyt maaliskuun alusta sijoittaneet omaan vuoroomme ja pyrimme käymään treenaamassa vielä n. 1 - 2 kertaa viikossa lisäksi. Riippuu paljolti ajasta ja voinnista, miten paljon jaksamme treenata.

We have really been busy with Petri in agility. We have our own guided training sessions on Thursdays, where we have a trainer, but then we have rented our own privat time for us to train from OKK and we are trying to go and train on ourselves 1 to 2 times per week in addition. Much depends of the time and how much we have strength to work out.

Viime viikonloppuna kävimme taas kokeilemassa, miltä tuntuisi kisata. Me molemmat, Petri ja minä, teimme kolme rataa. Vielä hieman on hiomista heillä menossaan, että se viimeinen nolla sieltä tulisi ja oikeuttaisi nousun 2. luokkaan. Me Lexien kanssa teimme kuitenkin tulosta taloutemme puolesta eli teimme valitettavat kaksi hylättyä suoritusta perusradoilta, mutta hyppyradalta otimme ensimmäisen 0-tuloksen ja LUVA:n eli luokanvaihtoon oikeuttavan tuloksen. Lisäksi sijoituimme ensimmäisiksi mini-luokassamme. Aikamme oli hurja -10,02 s alle ihanneajan.

Last weekend we went to try out again, how would it be like to race in a real competition. We both, Petri and I, did three tracks - 2 basic and 1 jump. Petri and Viivi have to do little bit more fine-tuning to their co-operation, so they will get that last zero and rise to the 2nd class. We, Lexie and I, however were able to succeed - after two fails on the basic tracks, we took the first 0-result and LUVA ie 1st result which would qualify us to rise to 2nd class. We need 2 more 0-results from basic tracks. In addition, we ranked first in the mini-class ie we won! Our time was rattling -10.02 seconds under the ideal time.

Kun juoksin aiemmin radalla, tuntui, että en pysy Lexien perässä, mutta hyppyradalle kokosin itseni ja päätin rataa läpikäydessäni, miten toimisin tässä ja tuossa kohdassa. Kun kävelimme Lexien kanssa lähtöviivalle, jännitys tuntui kurkussani. Eniten minua pelotti se, pysyisikö Lexie paikallaan. Pylly neidillä irtosi ja jouduimme lähtemään liikkeelle pienellä varastuksella. Ohjasin Lexien putkeen ja lähdin pinkomaan eteenpäin. Lexie suoritti hienosti renkaan ja hypyn. Seuraavaksi oli kaarre kepeille. Varmistin menomme menemällä helpommalle puolelle eli oikealle, koska siitä olisi helppo ohjata koira putkeen. Kun Lexie meni putkeen, lähdin juoksemaan jo seuraavalle. Vedin Lexien perässäni toiseenkin putkeen. Putken jälkeen oli vuorossa vaikein este - PUSSI. Lexie oli aikaisemmin tehnyt sen, että se oli kieltäytynyt suulla muutaman kerran. Vedin Lexien kuitenkin vauhdilla lävitse pussista ja ihmeeni oli suuri - Lexie teki sen! Siitä innostuin ja huusin: "Mahtavaa!" Seuraavaksi kaarsimme hypyille ja hyppyjen jälkeen tei turhankin varmistelevan valssin ennen putkea. Putkesta Lexie kävi suorittamassa oikeassa tahdissa muurin ja hypyt. Hypyltä kaarsimme taas viimeiselle putkelle ja loppusuoralle. Kun Lexie meni putkeen, lähdin kiitämään kohti loppusuoraa. Tuntemus oli, että nyt on tulossa upea tulos. Huusin Lexielle: "Nyt mennään!" Siinä kiidimme sitten yhtä matkaa kohti maaliviivaa ja tuloksena oli 0 - virheetön rata! Huusin onnesta! Otin loppusuoralla irti itsestäni kaikki mehut ja lysähdin maahan maaliviivan ylitettyäni. Jalat lopettivat kantamisen. Tunne oli upea! Usko meidän kahden yhteispeliin palautui. Koppasin Lexien lopulta syliin ja kävelimme kohti häkkiämme. Matkalla ihmiset onnittelivat upeasta radasta. Kun seisoimme palkintosijalla yksi, toiseksi tai kolmanneksi tullut kilpailija sanoi vielä hienot sanatkin, jotka jäivät mieleeni: "Helppoa se on, kun se osaa." En tosin allekirjoita sitä ihan juuri nyt, mutta oikealla asenteella, oikeana päivänä, kaikki on mahdollista.

When I ran on previous tracks, I felt that I did not stay ahead of Lexie, but at the jump track I compiled myself and I decided when I went through the track with others, what steps are appropriate here and there. When we walked with Lexie to the starting line, I felt the tension in my throat. I only thought that Lexie would steal the start. Bum occurred and she stole the start, so we had to move and start the track. I helped Lexie to pipe and went forward to wait her. Lexie carried out well the tire and the jump. Next we had to do a curve to the sticks. I made sure that I would be on the easy side ie on the right side, because from there it would be easy to guide your dog into the next pipe. When Lexie went into the pipe, I ran for the next one. I pulled Lexie to the other pipe. The pipe was followed by the most difficult obstacle for us - THE BAG. Lexie had refused  to go in it in the earlier tracks. I pulled Lexie in to it and however, she went rapidly through the bag - Lexie did it! I was inspired, and I yelled to her: "Awesome!" Next we curved the two jumps and after those I did an unnecessarily waltz before the pipe. Lexie performed it correctly and made to the wall and jumps. After the jumps we had to curve to the last pipe and to the finnish line. When Lexie went into the pipe, I started to run towards the finish line. I acknowledged that we are going to have an amazing result. I shouted to Lexie: "Now let's go!" So we ran together towards the finish line and the result was 0 - flawless track! I cried out of happiness! On the last obstacles I took out of myself all the juices and collapsed to the ground after finish line. My legs literally stopped working. The feeling was amazing! Faith in to our team resumed. After a while I took Lexie finally into my arms and walked towards our cage and seats. On the way, people congratulated us of our magnificent race. As we stood in the pole one of the other competitors said something that remained in my mind: "When you have the skills, it is easy." I do not sign it right now, but when you have the right attitude and the right day, everything is possible.

Joulua odotellessa - Christmas, here we come!

Syksyn aikana on tapahtunut paljon. Elentarionin ensimmäiset pennut ovat täyttäneet vuoden verran ja ovat kasvaneetkin vallan upeasti. Mineiksi jäävät ainakin Oulun seudulla asuvat tapauksemme, mutta Velhosta en tiedä. Kuulemma kasvua on tapahtunut valtavasti siellä. Ikävä on valtava.

During the fall a lot has happened. The first puppies from our kennel had their one year birthday already and have grown up amazingly well. In agility terms, all females belong to mini class, but I don't think thats the case with Velho. Reportedly he has done tremendous growth there in the south. I so miss him and would want to see him.

Elentarion Alfa 1 v.

Niinhän siinä kävi, että vuosi tuli täyteen pennuillamme 2.11. Arwen, Gala, Himppu ja Velho selvisivät kuin selvisivätkin tänne asti. Vuosi sitten en ollut ollenkaan niin varma. Onneksi edelleen avuksemme laskeutui Tuija Äänekoskelta, jonka hellässä huomassa pienemme saivat upean avun juuri silloin kuin sitä kaivattiinkin.

Year ago I didn't even think that all of them would have this day, but on 2nd of November Arwen, Gala, Himppu and Velho had their 1 year birthday. I still am grateful for the help which Tuija from Äänekoski gave us then, in her loving bosom our little ones got their second chance.

Pidimme marraskuun alussa syntymäpäivän kunniaksi pienen kokoontumisen kotonamme. Oli harmi, että Velho ei Piian kanssa päässyt paikalle. Himppu tosin tuli vieraaksemme Erikan ja Laurin kanssa, ja meillä oli mukava päivä. Joimme kahvit ja kävimme lenkillä Kempeleen maastossa koko porukalla sekä tietysti otimme vuosikaskuvat.

We had a small birthday party at our place in the beginning of November. It was a pity that Velho and Pia couldn't make it. Himppu however was our guest with Erika and Lauri, and we had a nice day. We drank some coffee and went to take a walk with the whole group and of course, we took the one year old pictures.

When Arwen was 7 weeks old, I write the following about her: "Arwen is the boss of this gang. If someone does not go like this little lady was expecting, she tells it with a loud noise. She wants to be cuddled first, if someone gets it before her, she expresses it with a bark and irritated growl. Arwen is also a referee. When the playing goes too wild, Arwen will come and stop it. If Viiru is bullied too much, Arwen will come and defend. However, that doesn't stop her from harassing Viiru, but Arwen makes it more gently. Arwen's face looks also like it would melt the world's worst bad guys, because this lady has just so incredibly big eyes. Arwen is also playful and she runs around with others. Tämä sama jatkuu edelleen. Äänellä on alettu enemmän ja enemmän ilmaista oma mieli ja tahto. Jos ulos ei pääse, se kuullaan kyllä. Viirua Arwen ei enää pääse puolustamaan, koska Viirusta on tullu city-sheltti, mutta Galan kanssa paini on jatkunut aina näihin päiviin asti. Vieläkään ei ole varmaan saatu selville, kumpi on pomo tai parempi. Arwenin puolustusvietti on iso. Kun vahtikoira tepastellee takapihalla, ohikulkijat eivät pääse ohi huomaamatta tai ilman ilmoitusta.

This is still the same. She has started to use her voice more and more to express her needs. If she can not get out, she will tell it loudly. Arwenista on kasvanut myös lintukoira. Vierailimme tässä eräs viikonloppu vanhempieni luona Kellossa. Kello on yksi koiriemme lempipaikoista: iso piha, juoksutilaa valtavasti - saa pinkoa niin lujaa kuin haluaa, eikä puita ole esteenä missään. Vauhti kasvaa siis hurjaksi. Isäni on ruokkinut lintuja (ja oravia) aina. Nyt viime vuosien aikana paikalle on ilmaantunut myös fasaaneja. Tällä hetkellä niitä on varmaankin se kaksi urosta ja seitsemän naarasta. Kun Arwen näki ko. linnut, ne piti ajattaa heti tiehensä. Arwen oli ainoa, joka neideistämme teki näin. Arwen juoksi niiden perässä niin lujaa, että sai melkein pyrstösulat napattua yhdeltä suuhunsa ennen kuin tämä ko. yksilö keksi, että hänellä on siivet. Viime viikonloppuna kävimme taas kylässä. Arwen ran after them so hard, that she almost grabbed one of them from the tail feathers. Fortunately this bird discovered that he has wings. Last weekend we went to Kello again. We were wondering why Arwen sang at the back door and shouted demands to get out. I thought that she had an emergency, but in reality Arwen knew immediately that there were those pheasants again eating and ran straight there where the birds were, and chased after them. Ears disappeared immediately, and all the command disappeared in the air. There she disappeared and with speed. After a while Arwen came back a happy smile on her face - she had done her "job".

Viivi ja Lexie - Agilityä ja muuta oloa

Olemme nyt Petrin kanssa käyttäneet syksyn treenaamiseen. Olemme kulkeneet Oulun Koirakerhon hallilla treeneissä torstaisin Viivin ja Lexien kanssa. Petri ja Viivi ovat 2. luokan treeniryhmässä ja hakevat koko ajan yhteistä säveltä. Viivi on nyt päässyt sinuiksi Petrin kanssa, ja vauhti on kasvanut huimaksi. Petrillä on vaikeuksia pysyä perässä ja ohjata. Hieman harmittaa, että näin on käynyt, koska kesällä heidän elonsa synkkasi niin hyvin yhteen. Toisaalta arvokasta treeniä se on ollut molemmille. Petri saa kertoa lisää. :)

We have now used our time with Petri in training. We have had our training hour on Thursdays in a Dog Club of Oulu's hall. Petri and Viivi are in a 2nd class training group and they are still looking for perfect pace together. Viivi is now a pair with Petri, and the pace has increased a lot. Petri has difficulties keeping up and control over her. Slightly annoying that this is the case, because in the summer their speed really hit it off so well together. Lexien kanssa olemme edistyneet huimasti. Kepit menevät meillä jo upeasti. Ei tarvitse hakea enää jokaista väliä kuten vuosi sitten.
