OULU KV - Iloisen koiran näyttely 13.8.2016

Viime viikonloppuna kävimme pitkästä aikaa näyttelyssä. Suunnittelin jo kesän alussa, että kävisimme ainakin yhdessä näyttelyssä koko porukalla. Tarkoituksena hakea harraste-H:t Arwenille ja Galalle ja tietysti kokeilla Monan ja Lexien kanssa, josko ERI-polku aukeaisi. Viime kerroilla oli aika haastavaa. / Last weekend it was a show time. I planned in the beginning of this summer that we will attend in one show with the whole group. Arwen and Gala needs those hobby-H's for agility, and of course I have to try to get ERI with Mona and Lexie, if our ERI path could open up. Recently it has been quite challenging.

Oulu KV eli Iloisen koiran näyttely järjestettiin Oulun Äimäraution raviradalla. Olin edellisenä iltana ollut pystyttämässä kehiä ja purkamassa palkintoja. Näyttelyn tekivät paikalliset koirayhdistykset yhdessä, joten senkin takia oli tärkeää mennä maksamaan kannatusmaksu. / Oulu INT aka Joyful Dog's show was held in Oulu Äimärautio racetrack. The previous night I had been there putting it together and dismantling prize boxes. The show is made with local dog associations together, so it was important to go and attend to it.

Lauantaiaamu aukesi kauniisti vesisateisena ja synkkänä. Tiesin, että tästä ei tule kyllä kesää, mutta sinne me suuntasimme Petrin kanssa ja mietimme, onko tässä järkeä. Uutiset Shetlanninlammaskoirien erikoisnäyttelystä Helsingistä olivat samanmoiset. Vesisade oli molemmissa läsnä ja vahvasti. Saavuimme näyttelypaikalle melko hyvissä ajoin ja haimme teltallemme sopivan paikan läheltä kehäämme. Petri laittoi teltan pystyyn sateen piiskatessa meitä ja tavaroitamme. Tunnelma oli todella kostea... / Saturday morning opened up beautifully rainy and gloomy. The atmosphere was really moist ...

Tuomarina toimi Igoris Zizevskis. Harmitti hieman, että viikolla tapahtui tuomarivaihdos juuri kehässämme, mutta tällä mentiin. Se on pelin henki. Mona oli hieman luimuna vesisateesta ja ei todellakaan tehnyt parastaan. Tuloksena oli EH. Koska ERI-tuloksia ei tästä kehästä tullut neljää, kaikki ERI:t ja EH:t pääsivät vielä kerran pyörähtämään kilpaluokassa. Oli hirveä odottaa vesisateessa kilpakehää. Tuuli piiskasi vettä melkein vaakasuorana päällemme, ja kastuimme hiljalleen ihoa myöten. Tulosta ei kilpakehästä tullut, joten juoksin Monan kauhealla vauhdilla takaisin telttaan. / Our judge was Igoris Zizevskis. I was a little bit annoyed that there was a change of judge in our ring. But it is the spirit of the game. Mona was a little annoyed of the rain and do not really do her best. The result was very good aka EH. Because there were not enough ERI results, all the ERI's and EH's were called in the competing ring. It was terrible to wait for it in the rain. The wind whipped the water from almost horizontal upon us, and slowly we got wet all the way down. We just went for a spin in there and after that I ran with terrible pace back to the tent with Mona.

Tässä täytyy sanoa, että onneksi Petri oli pyytänyt Maiju Mertalan ketyksemme tuuraamaan, jos en ehdi nakata Monaa telttaan ajoissa. Petri ja Maiju menivät etukäteen hakemaan trikkityttömme kehään ja lennosta annoin Maijulle näyttelytaluttimeni. Tässä vaiheessa sattui jokin ihmeellinen sekaannus, koska ajattelin, että minulla olisi enemmän aikaa ennen kehää, mutta näin ei ollut. Maiju ja Petri kierrättivät koiramme kehässä alkupyörähdyksessä. Onneksi se meni hyvin, ja tämä mokailuni ei kostautunut minulle. / Here I must say that, fortunately, Petri had asked Maiju Mertala to fill in, if I do not have time to toss Mona to the tent in time. Petri and Maiju went to get our tricolor girls into the ring and I gave Maiju my show leash. At this point occurred one of the marvelous confusions, because I thought that I had more time before the ring, but it was not the case. Maiju and Petri rotated the dogs in the ring in the first showing. Fortunately, it went very well, and this didn't backfire for me.

Petri ja Arwen menivät yksilöimään ekana. Petri pääsi kokeilemaan oikeaa näyttelyä ensimmäistä kertaa, ja täytyy sanoa, että mätsärit kutsuvat enemmän tätä paria eli harjoittelua tarvitaan. Petri ja Arwen olivat molemmat sateesta ns. ahdistuneita ja tulos oli sen mukainen - EH. Pian pääsimme Lexien kanssa lentämään kehään. Vettä satoi yhä enemmän ja enemmän. Onneksi Lexie on viilipytty kaikessa tällaisessa ja pyörähdyksemme meni loistavasti. Tuloksena ERI. Tässä välissä juoksin Lexien sylissäni takaisin telttaan. Neiti piti saada lämpimäksi ja kuivaksi, joten pyyhin tassut ja harjasin turkin ilmavammaksi. Odottelimme teltassamme sateensuojassa kilpaluokkaa. / Petri and Arwen went to their invidual showing first. Petri got to test the showing for the first time, and I must say that we need lots of match show's ie. training is needed. Petri and Arwen were stressed out of the rain and the result was in accordance with it - EH. Soon, we were able to fly into the ring with Lexie. It was raining more and more. Fortunately, Lexie is always so calm in the ring and it went brilliantly. The result was ERI. In the meantime, I ran back to the tent Lexie in my arms. I had to get her warm and dry, so wiped her paws dry and brushed her coat airy. We waited for the competing class in our tent.

Kilpaluokka alkoi ja siellä seisoimme taas vesisateen piiskaamana. Lexie seisoi nätisti paikallaan asennossa. Tuomari kävi usein luonamme ja katseli meitä tarkasti. Pian hän aloitti sijoittamisen. Kun lopussa hän huusi, että toinen kohdallamme, olin ihmeissäni. Mitä! Mekö sijoituimme toisiksi! Pian kuulin kehäsihteerin huutavan, että AVK 2. ja SA. Olin innoissani! Pääsisin PN-kehään! / Competing class began, and we stood there while the rain was whipping us. Lexie stood neatly in her position. The referee often went to stay with us and watched us closely. I was thrilled! PN ring was calling us!

Juoksin tässä välissä Hennan ja Maijun telttaan kuivaamaan Lexien ja hieman harjailemaan neitoa. Olin iloinen, vaikka olin luihin ja ytimiin asti märkä. Jotenkin en vain välittänyt vesisateesta. Pian PN-kehä alkoi ja siellä seisoimme jälleen rivissä. Tuomari kävi usein luonamme, juoksutti meitä kehässä tiuhasti ympäri. Hän kävi usein luonamme ja tutkimassa meitä. Kun tuomari huusi 3. kohdallemme, olin ihmeissäni! Mitä!?! Kolmas? Sinne kävelimme kolmenneksi ja saimme vara-SERTin kouraamme. Kiitin tuomaria tästä, ja siellä seisoimme. Oli hilkulla serti, mutta ehkä jo ensi kerralla! Lexie oli loistava ja kulki hienosti! / I ran to Henna's and Maiju's tent to get a little bit dry and to brush Lexie. I was happy, even though I was wet to the bone. Somehow I just didn't seem to mind the rain. Soon PN ring started and there we stood in a row. The referee often went to stay with us, runned us around the ring many times. He often went to stay with us and study us. When the judge cried 3rd to me, I was amazed! What!?! Third? There walked on our place 3 rd and we got res-CC to my hand. I thanked the judge of this, and there we stood. The certificate was close, but perhaps on the next time! Lexie was great and did well!

Muutama vinkki pysyä kiireisenä / Few Tips for Busy Life with Dogs

Kennel Elentarionissa on muutama kuukausi vain oltu ja tehty töitä. Kevät on kiireisintä aikaa niin opiskelijalle kuin opettajallekin, ja se on näkynyt. Keikkatyö Kemissä ja päätyö Oulussa eivät ole helpottaneet arkea. Petrikin on tehnyt niin opintojaan kuin sitten Valmennuskeskuksen opetuksiaan. Onneksi kesä tuli viimein!

Our kennel has live a very quiet life these past few months. All what we have done has been our daily work. Spring is the busiest time as a student and as a teacher, and we really have felt it. Working in two places - in Kemi and in Oulu - has not eased up our daily life. Petri has had his studies and teaching job too. Fortunately, the summer is here - now - enjoy!

Viivi 6 vuotta - Our little Geisha turned 6 years old

Viivi täytti 16.5. 6 vuotta. Nyt esikoisshelttineitimme alkaisi olemaan aikuisen naisen iässä. Turhat pentumaisuudet on karistettu pois (ainakin luulemme niin), ja harrastuksissa keskittymiskykyä voisi olla enemmän. Aika kuluu nopeasti. / Our Geisha - Viivi - turned 6 years old on 16th of May. Now our first sheltie starts to be a full grown sheltie woman. There is no puppy like behavior anymore (or we think so), and when doing things, the concentration is high. Time really flyes...

Agility

Kesäkauden treenit on aloitettu ja pääsimme viimein viime viikolla ensimmäisen kerran kokeilemaan treenaamista. Taukoa pidimme ihan tarkoituksella, että josko kaikki typerä käyttäytyminen unohtuisi. Lisäksi Gala aloitti nyt viimein oikean aksaamisen eli ohjatun treenaamisen. Ensimmäinen kertamme ei ollut helppo, koska samassa ryhmässä on myös Himppu. Alussa tytöt laukkasivat toistensa luokse aina, kun siihen avautui mahdollisuus. Ei ohjaajaa kannata kuunnella.

Summer training season has started and we were able to start them too finally last week for the first time. We took a little break deliberately that if all the silly behavior of ours could be forgotten. In addition, Gala is now finally starting  her road to stardom in agility. Our first time was not easy, because in the same training group we also have our "little" sister Himppu. In the beginning the girls raced over to each other whenever there opened up an opportunity to do so. They didn't listen at all. "Thou shall not listen thou master".

Gala oli kuitenkin aika nopea tyttö oppimaan ja saimmekin tehtyä putki- ja hyppytreeniä hieman. Kovasti pitää tehdä töitä, että saamme neidin edes lähellekään Himpun tasoa. Himppu oli treeneissä kyllä ihan primustavaraa. Oli ihana katsoa neidin menoa kentällä. Vauhtia piisaa, vaikka pieni neitokainen onkin. Samalla mieleeni hiipivät ajatukset Velhosta, ja siitä, kuinka Velhon agilityura etenee. Silmä tai ei, jos koira nauttii hommastaan, sen pitäisi sitä tehdä. Toivottavasti Pialla on ollut aikaa harrastaa. Pia lähettikin muutaman kuvan Velhostamme. Iso poika siitä on kasvanut, vaikkakin pystykorva.

However, the Gala was pretty fast learner and we got the girl in pipe and do couple of jumps after a little workout. There is lot of hard work ahead, so that we can be anywhere near the level of the little lady Himppu. Himppu is so good at it - so good. It was amazing to look at that little girl to do the track. Lots of speed in those little legs. At the same time my mind started to think about Velho, and how Velho's agility is proceeding. Two eyes or one, if your dog enjoys it, then you should do it. Hopefully, Pia has had time to practice agility with Velho. Pia sent some pictures of Velho. Big boy already, although pointy ears...

Lexien kanssa menimme myös treenaamaan samana päivänä. Teemu kävi edellisellä viikolla hieromassa neitiä, ja olimmekin sitten treenivalmiita tämän viikon koitoksiin. Olin yllättynyt, kuinka kivasti meillä meni yksiin. Kun ohjaaja muistaa pitää selkänsä suorana, Lexie ohjautuu nätisti esteille. Puomi ja A menivät todella hienosti, kun askellus menee oikeisiin kohtiin. Lopussa myös keinullekin mentiin omaehtoisesti, eikä enää pelätty. Autoin tosin alaslaskussa kädelläni niin, että tömähdys oli pehmeä, ei kova. Meillä menee yksiin mukavasti. Vauhtiakin tuli lisää, kun nostin tosiaan itseni pystyyn.

With Lexie we had our own training group on the same day. Teemu had massaged our lady in shape the week before, so we were ready to do our workout. I was surprised how nicely we did all. When I remember to keep my backs straight, Lexie goes nicely to the obstacles. Bridge and the A went really well, as long as the contact surfaces are touched correctly. At the end of session the swing was done on her own, and no longer with fear. I helped a bit though when the swing went down, so that the thump was soft, not hard. We have paired up nicely. We have bit more speed, when I lift myself up.

Näyttelyt - Dog Show's

Ilmoitin viimein kesälle tyttösemme ensimmäisiin näyttelyihin. Tyttösillä tarkoitan Monaa ja Lexietä. Lähdemme nyt takaisin näyttelymaailmaan pienen tauon jälkeen. Katsotaan, mitä tulokset tuovat tullessaan. Lexie olisi kiva saada ainakin kahden sertin tytöksi. Monalle taas olisi mukava saada näyttelymaailma auki. Ensimmäinen näyttelymme on siis Muhos kesäkuun alussa. Pidetään peukkuja. Koitamme saada isomman neidin kiinteytymään lihaksistoltaan, joten se tarkoittaa kovaa treeniä vielä kuukauden ajan. Toivottavasti ponnistelumme tuottavat tulosta.

I announced our girls - Lexie and Mona - in the first dog show's for this summer. We're going to back there after a little break. Let's see what the results will bring on our way. It would be nice to hunt down the second certificate for Lexie. To Mona it would be nice to show the dog show world. Our first show is at the beginning of June at Muhos. All of you - keep your fingers crossed. We try to train and enhance Lexies muscles, so it means hard training sessions for her. Hopefully, our efforts are giving results in the summer.

Monan kanssa kävimme harjoittelemassa näyttelyä Kaakkurin mätsärissä Vappuna. Olimme aiemmin harjoitelleet pöydällä olemista, mutta emme sitten sitä juoksentelua niinkään. Siellä pääsimme oikeassa paikassa harjoittelemaan liikkumista kehässä. Monan kanssa hilputtelimme sitten pienten sinisten ykköseksi ja lopulta BIS-kehässä olimme 8. Ihan mukavaa, koska tämä oli ensimmäinen show'mme. Oli ihana saada kisan jälkeen muutamalta tuomarilta kehuja kypsästä pennusta, rohkeasta pennusta ja hyvin rauhallisesta pennusta. Päänuppi on siis kohdallaan neitokaisella, mikä on taas yksi ihana sulka jalostustulevaisuutta ajatellen. (Mukavaa merlepoikaa tai trikkipoikaa siis metsästämään...)

We went to practice show behavior with Mona to Kaakkuri match show on Vappu. We had previously been practicing being on the table, but not the running around so much. There we were in the right place to practice the movement in the ring. With Mona we showed ourselves to number one in small blue ring and finally in Best In Show ring we were 8th. It was really nice, because this was the first time in a show for us. After the show It was wonderful to get praises from some of the judges: what a mature puppy, what a brave girl and what a peaceful puppy. Her head is in a right place, which is another lovely feather to our hat of breeding plans. (We are hunting a nice merle boy or tricolor boy...)

Muuta elämää - The other side

Pohjois-Suomen Shelttien puheenjohtajana toimiminen on alkanut hiljalleen luonnistua. Hallituksemme on ihanan ahkeria tyyppejä täynnä, joten uskon, että syksyllä meillä saadaan monta sulkaa hattuumme tapahtumien myötä. Lisäksi nuorkauppakamaritoiminnassa olemme myös hieman kehittyneet ja huomanneet, mitä haluamme saavuttaa. Petri mm. lähti tavoittelemaan henkilökohtaista kunniaa ja saavutti sen - Sanan Säilä 2015 -voitto ei ole pieni juttu. Edessä kesäkuussa reissu Istanbuliin ja EM-voitto on melkein taskussa. Petrin valmistautumista voit seurata Petri Eklundin tie JCI:n puhekilpailussa -blogissa.

Working as a chairman in Northern Finland Sheltie Club has begun to slowly work out. Our board is full of wonderfully hard-working people, so I think that in the fall we have obtained many feathers in our cap with all those events we are going to have. In addition, working in the Junior Chamber activities, has also given a bit of things and we have found out what we want to achieve. Petri wanted to pursue personal glory and reached it - He is the winner of national speech competition Sanan Säilä 2015. The win was not an easy job, but my man nailed it! In the beginning of June he has a trip to Istanbul to compete in European Championship - I can smell the victory already. You can follow Petri by reading his blog about it. It is in Finnish, but hopefully he will translate it in English too.

Kävimme koko poppoolla taas perinteeksi jo muodostuneella Posion reissulla huhtikuussa. Oli ihana lähteä viettämään muutama päivä hiljaisuudessa. Kiitos taas Eerolle, että hän jaksaa meidän kanssa lähteä sinne. Reissu toi taas mielenrauhaa ja ajatukset saivat levätä. Koirat saivat juosta rauhassa maailmassa, missä ei ollut rajoja. Lisäksi järvi oli jäässä, joten jäällä oli ihana laukata sydämensä kyllyydestä. Varsinkin Mona ja Gala nauttivat ravaamisesta. Oli ihana seurata tyttöjen menoa.

We had our traditional weekend at Posio in April. It was wonderful to go to spend a few days in silence. Thank you again to Eero that he wants to take us with him there always. The trip brought back the peace in our minds and all the stress was taken away. The dogs were allowed to run free in a world where there was no boundaries. In addition, the lake was covered with ice, so ice was wonderful place to gallop with their heart's content. Especially Mona and Gala enjoyed running a round and chase each other. It was wonderful to follow the girls.

Kirjoitin muutama vuosi sitten seuraavat sanat: "Ihminen kokee harvoin irtautumisen tunteita nyky-yhteiskunnassa. Jotenkin kiire ja arjen vauhti tempaisevat mukaansa oravanpyörään, jota voi jarruttaa vain työntämällä jalkansa tai kätensä pyörästä ulos ja toivoa, että mitään ei mene rikki siinä jarrutuksessa. Ympäristö kohahtaa moista tekoa, mutta sinä olet lopulta ainoa, joka nousee pyörästä pois, vaikka selkääntaputtelijoita oli jonoksi asti. I wrote a few years ago the following words: "One rarely experiences the feelings of breaking free in the modern society. Somehow all the hurry and everyday pace snatch you with in to the mouse wheel, which you can only slow down and stop by pushing your feet or hands out and hope that nothing breaks in the process. People around you will look at you with horrified faces, but you are ultimately the only one who will take the step out of the wheel, even though you had around you lots of back patters. When you look back, you will see that wheel soon speeds up and no one came out but you. My destiny was not the same when I stepped out of the mouse wheel, because with me stepped out my heart, my peace and my refuge - Petri". What the future holds, we get to decide and experience it together. Words have not gotten older, even though time has elapsed.

Elämänviisauksia / Facts About Happy Life

Pentueemme täytti viimein 6 kk 2.5. Jotenkin sitä ei koskaan uskonut näiden saavuttavan ko. ikää, mutta ihme tapahtui. Kiitos edelleen suuresti Tuijalle, joka auttoi meitä silloin, kun hätä oli suurin. Nämä 6 kk ovat olleet todellakin ihmettelyn aikaa. On ollut upeaa seurata näiden pienokaisten kasvua, tutustumista maailmaan, erilaisiin ihmisiin ja kaikkeen ympärillään. Toisaalta tämä on ollut myös hyvin raskasta aikaa eli tulevaisuudessa ei ole kuin aina yksi pentu kotona kasvamassa. Ei koskaan enää kahta samaan aikaan. Syynä on esimerkiksi sisäsiisteyskasvatus, käytöstavat, ruokailut ja kaikki muu mukava - niihin on käytettävä tuplasti enemmän aikaa. Jos yksi pentu oppii sisäsiistiksi 3 kk ikään mennessä, toivottavasti nämä olisivat sisäsiistejä 7 kk ikään mennessä...

On 2nd of May our Alfa litter had its 6 month birthday. Somehow, I never believed back then that this lot will reach this age, but a miracle happened. I truly thank Tuija again, who helped us when we needed the help most. These six months have been really amazing time. It has been wonderful to watch these little ones growth, exploring the world and all kinds of things and people around them. On the other hand, it has also been a very difficult time. In the future we will not take two puppies at home at the same time. Never again two at the same time. The reasons are, for example, indoor toilet training, manners, meals, and all the other nice things related - they use twice as much time in all of those. If one puppy can learn house-traided in 3 months, hopefully these two would be house-trained by the age of 7 months...

Pentusemme - Arwen Undomiel ja Galadriel

Tyttösemme, Arwen ja Gala, ovat nyt n. 33 cm korkeita ja painavat 6 kiloa kappale. Eli jäämme hieman alamittaisiksi. Kaikki tosin sanovat, että eipä sitä tiedä, mutta semmoista se on. Alkutaipaleen kamppailu verotti kuitenkin kasvua, vaikka aluksi ei näyttänytkään siltä.

The girls, Arwen and Gala, are now about 33 cm high and weigh 6 kg each. So, they will be a little undersized. Everyone says that we do not know it yet, but this is the reality liked we it or not. Because we had those struggles at start, it must have taken a toll on growth, even if at first it did not seem that way.

Millainen pentu Gala on? - What kind of puppy is the Gala?

Jos Galaa pitäisi kuvata jollakin tavalla, olisi Gala sellainen ilopilleri. Gala on aina iloinen, aina lähdössä mukaan kaikkeen ja hyvin hyvin aktiivinen. Gala kiusailee koko sakkia siten, että mustat ovat varmasti kimpussa viimeistään metsässä ja antavat neidille kunnolla köniin. Gala tosin pitkillä jaloillaan pääsee kiihdyttämään itsensä kauheaan vauhtiin, joten kiinniottajien tulee tosissaan ajattaa neitiä. Ainoastaan Viivi pääsee rinnalle, mutta toisten pitää tarttua häntään kiinni, koska siihen Lexie ja Arwen korkeintaan yltävät ajattaessaan Galaa. Gala on minun oma mussukka, jonka kanssa lähdemme kokeilemaan agilityä, kun ikä antaa periksi. Vauhti on Galan toinen nimi, joten katsotaan, miten onnistumme siinä. Sen vauhdin eli tuulen Gala on ilmeisesti perinyt isältään Vindiltä.

If I had to describe Gala in some way, I would say that she is a happy pill. Gala is always happy, she is always ready for everything and she is very very active dog. Gala teases the whole gang all the time. So our blacks gang up and give Gala a proper fight back when we go to forest to run free. Gala however with her long legs can accelerate in such a pace, that the catchers must seriously run. Only Viivi is able to get alongside her, but others catch her only by biting her tail. Gala is my own little pumpkin, with whom I will go and try to do agility when the time is right. The speed is Gala's middle name, so we'll see how we can use it. The speed of the wind Gala has apparently inherited from her father Vind.

Keholtaan Gala on todella upea ja sopusuhtainen. Kaula on upean pitkä, jota korostaa valkoinen kaulus. Kulmaukset ovat hyvät, jotka antavat Galan keholle sen ryhdin ja vauhdin, jota koira tarvitsee. Kun osat ovat hyvin paikoillaan, vauhtia ja kestävyyttä löytyy. Naama on kaunis tan-merkkeineen ja laikkuineen. Galas body is a truly stunning and well proportioned. The neck has a great length of which a white collar supports. She has good angulations, which provide the great posture and the speed what a dog needs. When these parts are in right place, pace and endurance can be found. Her face is a beautiful with those tan signs and spots. Merle color could be bluer, but the coat has a great color, it is smoothly mottled, like a good merle should be. I am thinking of taking her to a few shows that we know what kind of girl she really is.

Millainen pentu Arwen on? - What kind of puppy is Arwen?

Jos Gala oli vauhtityttö, Arwen on haaveilija. Arwen on ottanut paljon emostaan eli on hyvin omapäinen, omistava ja nousemassa hiljalleen tämän lauman valtiaksi Lexien jälkeen. Arwenilla on sitä rohkeutta haastaa isommat, joten aina, kun on mahdollisuus, sen se neiti tekee. Arwen on myös hyppijä ja loikkija, jonka ei välttämättä tarvitse koskea maahan, kun hän vaihtaa paikkaa olohuoneessa. Sama hyppiä sohvalta nojatuoliin ja takaisin. Eli jos Gala on juoksukuningatar, Arwen on hyppykuningatar. Tämäkin on varmaan peritty isäktä Vindiltä.

If Gala is a girl with a speed, Arwen is a dreamer. Arwen has taken a lot from her mother - she is a very headstrong, owning and rising slowly higher and higher in this flock, but not over Lexie. Arwen has the courage to challenge the bigger ones, so every time she has a chance to do so, she will not miss it. Arwen is also a leaper and a jumper, she does not have to necessarily touch the ground when she changes her place in the living room. She can jump on the couch and to the chair and back. So, if Gala is the Queen of running, Arwen is the Queen of jumping. Again, this is probably inherited from her dad Vind.

Keholtaan Arwen jenkkimäisen tanakka eli turkki on todella tuuhea ja runsas. Naamassa näkyy jenkkimäinen ilme eli ei niin kaunis ja siro kuin Galan pää. Tan-merkit antavat ilmeelle paljon ja neiti on todella kaunis. Kaula saisi olla pidempi, mutta muuten keho on kiva kokonaisuus - sopusuhtainen. Kulmaukset voisivat olla myös hieman paremmat, koska niiden takia kävely on hieman sellaista tepsuttelua. Kaunis neiti on kuitenkin ja hänetkin olisi tarkoitus viedä näyttelyyn tutkittavaksi, että tiedämme, mitä neidistä sanotaan.

Arwen's body is a more american than european. Her coat is really thick and rich. On her face there is a bit of an american look, so the face ain't as beautiful and graceful as the Gala's head. Tan markings give a lot to the expression and she is really pretty. The neck could be longer, but otherwise the body is a nice package - a well-proportioned. Angles could also be slightly better, because they reflect in walking. She is a beautiful lady however, and she too I will take to a few shows, that we know what they say of her really.

Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:llä hommissa

Koska Petristä tuli nyt Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n puheenjohtaja, tarkoittaa se erilaisia vastuita tuoda yhdistys esille ja olla mukana toiminnassa.

Since Petri became the chairman of the Northern Finland Sheltie's Association, it means a different kind of responsibilities to bring the association known and be a part of the action.

Oulun Koiramessuilla 3. - 4.5. - Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n hallitus oli päättänyt osallistua Oulun Koiramessuille, jotka järjetettiin Haukiputaalla. Petri ja minä olimme Smartteamsin porukan kanssa sitä pistämässä pystyyn. Siellä seisoskelimmekin viikonlopun ja teimme ihmisille tutuksi shelttiä. Mukanamme olivat meidän kaksi pientä palleroamme ja Lexie. Moni ajatteli sheltin nähdessään, että ne ovat sellaisia haukkukoneita. Nähdessään Galan ja Arwenin moni ihmetteli, miten nämä koirat voivat olla näin rauhallisesti täällä kaiken hälyn keskellä. Meiltä kysyttiin mm. seuraavia asioita rodustamme: ”Haukkuuko sheltti paljon?” ”Miten sheltti tulee toimeen lasten kanssa?” ”Ai, eikö sheltti kasvakaan tuota isommaksi?” ”Pitääkö sheltin kanssa harrastaa koko ajan jotakin?” ”Paljonko sheltti maksaa?” ”Ovatko nuo myytävänä?” Oli ihana rikkoa myyttejä, ja toisaalta oli antoisaa nähdä ihmisten reaktiot, kun he näkivät kasvattimme ständillämme. Koiramessut olivat antoisa kokemus. Oli ihana tutustua erilaisiin ihmisiin, vastailla heidän kysymyksiinsä ja tiedusteluihinsa. Lisäksi pääsimme Rantapohjaan, koska paikalle sattui eräs tuttu reportteri juuri oikeaan aikaan.

Oulu Dog Fair 3. - 4.5. - Northern Finland Shelties Association's Board decided to participate in Oulu Dog Fair, which was held at Haukipudas. Petri and I were there with Smartteams people to arrange it. We stood there the whole weekend and we made shelties familiar to the people. With us were our two little ones and Lexie. Many thought when seeing a sheltie that they are some kind of barking machines. After seeing Gala and Arwen many wondered how these dogs can be so calm here in the middle of all the noise. We were asked a lot of questions, and here are few of them: "Does sheltie bark much?" "How sheltie gets along with the kids?" "Oh, sheltie doesn't grow any bigger than that?" "Do you have to do things with sheltie all the time?" "How much does a sheltie cost?" "Are those for sale?" It was wonderful to break the myths, and on the other hand it was rewarding to see people's reactions when they saw our dogs in our stand. Dogs fair was a rewarding experience. It was wonderful to get to know different kind of people, to answer their questions and requests for information. In addition, we were able to get in a local paper, because we had a visit from a well-known reporter at the right time.

Äitienpäivän match show 11.5. - Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry järjesti perinteisesti mätsärit äitienpäivänä. Tänä vuonna ne järjestettiin Muskettikoiran pihassa Maikkulassa. Vaikka päivä oli hieman kolea, tuli paikalle kuitenkin ihan mukavasti ihmisiä ja saimme pidettyä leikkinäyttelyn mukavissa merkeissä. Meillä oli niin arpamyyntiä, makkaroita ja lettuja, joten sivutoimintaa oli myös näyttelykehien lisäksi. Päivä oli mukavan rento ja leppoisa, koska sitä tekemässä olivat mukavat tyypit. Tästä oli kiva kerätä kokemusta, koska olisimme Peten kanssa kesäkuun alussa menossa mätsäreihin tuomareiksi.

Mother's Day match show 11.5. - Northern Finland Shelties Association organized the traditional match show on Mother's Day. This year it was held in the yard of Muskettikoira at Maikkula. Although the day was a bit chilly, a lot of people came there and we were able to arrange a nice unofficial exhibition. We had a great group doing it there, so it was really fun to do everything. It was nice to get this experience, because Pete and I are going to be judges in a match show in the beginning of June.

Agilityä

Teimme nyt keväällä raskaita päätöksiä perheessämme. Petri päätti aloittaa agilityn ja mietimme koiraa, jonka kanssa Petri sitä harrastaisi. Aluksi ajattelin antaa Petrille Lexien, mutta Viivin reaktion nähtyäni teimme kuitenkin niin, että Lexie olisi minulla ja Viivi menisi Petrille. Kävimme nimittäin talvella treenaamassa kerran, ja Viivi oli niin Petrin perään radalla, että päätin luovuttaa. Lexiellä ja minulla on haasteita voitettavana, joten me jatkaisimme treenaamista yhdessä, kun taas edistynyt ja kisavalmis Viivi antaisi paljon Petrille helpotusta, kun mies harjoittelee tekniikoita ohjaamisessa.

We made some difficult decisions in the spring. Petri decided to begin agility and we thought about which dog should he take. At first, I thought of giving Lexie to Petri, but after seeing Viivi's reaction when she saw what he did with Lexie, I decided to give Viivi to Petri and I will train with Lexie. We went training once in the winter and Viivi was so after Petri on the track, so I decided to give her up. Lexie and I have challenges to overcome, so we should continue our training, while Viivi (advanced and ready to race) would give a lot of help to Petri, when he is practicing the techniques in controlling a dog on a track.

Haimme kesätreenipaikat OKK:lta koirillemme ja saimmekin ne samasta ryhmästä. JEE! Petri treenaa siis Viivin kanssa ja minä Lexien kanssa. Treenipäivämme on keskiviikkoiltaisin. Olemme myös suunnittelemassa muutamaa omatoimitreenikertaa viikkoon lisää, että saamme tuon Petrin oppimaan tekniikan ja ohjaamaan Viiviä paremmin. Minä pääsen samalla harjoittelemaan agilityohjaajan pestiä, kun koulutan Petriä. HIH! Tavoitteeksi otamme, että pääsisimme molemmat kisaamaan kesän loppuun mennessä eli viimeistään elokuussa.

We both applied for a summer training place's from OKK and we got them from the same group. JEE! Petri, therefore, is training with Viivi and I with Lexie. Our training is on Wednesday evenings. We are also planning to go and train on our own, so that we can train Petri to guide Viivi better. I get a chance to be a agility instructor for Petri. HIH! We are going to train so, that we could both be competing in the end of summer at the latest or by the end of August.

Petri kävikin Viivin kanssa harjoittelemassa kisaamista muutaman radan epävirallisissa agilitykilpailuissa Oulunsalossa 13.5. Kävimme myös Lexien kanssa tekemässä supermölliradan, missä oli vain hyppyjä ja putkia. Opin taas sen, että Viivihän irtosi todella hyvin, mutta Lexie kaipaa taas tarkempaa ohjausta. Ohjausvirheitä siis tuli sillä radalla. Se ei kuitenkaan haitannut, koska kävimme Lexien kanssa kisaamassa saman tapahtuman mätsäreissä ja olimme punaisten neljäs omassa luokassamme. Saimme hieman leluja ja herkkuja lahjaksi - molemmat. Agilitypuolella Petri ja Viivi onnistuivat kisoissaan todella hienosti: supermölliradalla pari oli 2. ja aloittelijoiden radalla 3. Tässä pitääkin vielä mainostaa, että koirat, jotka olivat heidän edellä molemmilla radoilla, kilpailevat oikeasti 3. luokassa, joten aika hyvin meidän parivaljakolta. Petri olikin kisailujen jälkeen todella innoissaan ja haluaa lisää kilpailla. Tähän annamme todellakin mahdollisuuden. Katsotaan, kisaavatko he jo kesän lopulla 2. luokassa tai jopa 3. luokassa. Olisihan se mahtavaa!

Petri wanted to try agility with Viivi, so they went to an unofficial agility competition at Oulunsalo on 13th of May. I wanted to try it too, so I did super easy track with Lexie, which had just jumps and pipes. I learned once again that Viivi is race-ready and Lexie needs a lot more guidance. I did some errors on the track. It didn't matter, because our main target was to train showing with Lexie in the same event. There was a match show and we got the red and we were fourth in our class. We got some toys and snacks - both. On agility track Petri and Viivi did really well: On super easy track they were 2nd and on a beginner's course they were 3rd. I shouldn't advertise, but the other dogs who were ahead of Petri and Viivi are competing for real in 3rd class, so Petri and Viivi did pretty well. After the race Petri was really excited about it and wants to compete more and more. To it, we will give him a real possibility. Let's see, will they compete near the end of summer in 2nd class or even in 3rd class. It would be soooooo great!

Näyttelyitä - Shows

Aloitimme tälle vuodelle näyttelykiertueemme Oulun KV:sta. Tuomarina näyttelyissä oli Monica Blaha Itävallasta. Näyttelyyn oli ilmoittautunut 77 shelttiä, joten iso kasa koiria oli paikalla. Ilma oli aivan upea ja aurinkoinen. Lexie oli myös todella hyvässä turkissa ja tuulella, joten olin oikeastaan innoissani näyttelystä. Valitettavasti emme saaneet sitä, mitä tulimme hakemaan eli ERInomaista, vaan ainoastaan Erittäin Hyvän. Siitä on kuitenkin hyvä lähteä liikkeelle mammaloman jälkeen. We started this year exhibition's from Oulu International dog show on 18th of May. The judge was Monica Blaha from Austria. There were 77 shelties, so there were a big pile of dogs on the spot again. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and sunny. Lexie had also a very good coat and mood, so I was really excited about the show. Unfortunately, we did not get what we came for (excellent), just only very good. It is, however, a good place to begin after the maternity leave. You can read the show review from Lexie's page.

Olimme myös järkkäilemässä näyttelyä perjantaina ja lauantaina, koska Äimärautio oli ko. viikonlopun koiratapahtuman mekka. Perjantaina olimme OKK:n porukoiden kanssa tekemässä OKK:n ryhmänäyttelyä, ja lauantaina olimme mukana parkkipirkkoina opastamassa autoilijoita parkkipaikalla. Koska ilma oli mitä loistavin, porukka mitä hauskin, oli mukava työskennellä ne päivät ja hankkia niitä arvokkaita talkoopisteitä ensi talvea varten, koska ensi talvena OKK:lla olisi se himoittu halli viimeinkin - ei enää kupolia, vaan oikea halli. Lisäksi Petri haluaa nyt tehdä kaikkensa, että hän saa mahdollisimman paljon pisteitä tienattua, että treenaamaan pääsee kunnolla + ilmaiset lähdöt ovat kohteena myös. Ihana nähdä Petri niin innostuneena!

We were also putting up the show arena on Friday and on Saturday, because Äimärautio at Oulu was the dog event mecca on that weekend. On Friday, we were there as a stuff from OKK with others to build up OKK's group show for Saturday, and on Saturday we attended as parking assistants to guide all those visitors to the right parking lots. Because the air was sunny and warm and people with us were fun, it was nice to work on those days and get those valuable point for next winter, because next winter OKK would have that covered training hall for real - no longer the ugly dome, but a real hall. In addition, Petri now wants to do everything that he wants to get as many points he can have so he can train with Viivi + get those free starts to races. Lovely to see Petri so excited!

Kesäkuulumisia ja poikakaverin hakua - Summer Info and Boyfriend Adds

Kävimme tosiaan viime päivityksessä harjoittelemassa näyttelyssä olemista hienoin tuloksin. Kulkeminenkin alkoi sitten luistaa ja palasimme näyttelyissä perinteiselle paikallemme kärkikahinoihin. Joten harjoittelu tekee mestarin. Katsotaanpa, minne se kantaa tulevaisuudessa.

On my last update I told that we went and practiced showing with good results. So it seems, that practice makes perfect. Let's see, where does it take us in the future.

Agility

Agilitykuulumisista sellaista, että olemme nyt aloittaneet kesätreenit uusissa ryhmissä. Viivi treenaa sunnuntaisin ja Lexie maanantaisin. Ohjaajat ovat ihania ja innokkaita nuoria tyttöjä, joiden kanssa olen kyllä taas saanut kokea ahaa-elämyksiä. Viivi-neiti on hiljalleen valmistumassa oikeaksi agilityrallikoiraksi, jonka kanssa nyt toivon, että voisimme saavuttaa jo kohta nolliakin. Lexie on myös edennyt niin paljon, että lähdemme kokeilemaan hyppyratoja ja hiljalleen muitakin.

We have now started summer training in new groups. Viivi has her group on Sundays and Lexie has hers on Mondays. The instructors are wonderful and eager young girls with whom I have been able to learn a great deal of new things. Viivi is slowly becoming a true agility dog, which now hopefully will give more zero tracks. Lexie also has advanced so much that we can go to try those easier jump tracks, and gradually move to harder ones.

Kävimme OKK:n kisoissa 6.6. kokeilemassa, miltä se kisaaminen maistui. Lexien kanssa kävimme hakemassa valitettavan hylsyn hyppyradalta. Viivin kanssa tosin onnistuimme saavuttamaan oman luokkamme 3. sijan, vaikka saimme 5 virhepistettä pienestä erheestä. Olin onnellinen - saimme ajan. Se riitti - ainakin nyt.

We went to OKK's agility races on 6th of June to try out, how fast can we run. With Lexie unfortunately we got disqualified of the jumping course. With Viivi we managed to achieve 3rd place, even though we had five penalty points from a small error. I was happy - we got something else than disqualified. That was enough - for now.


Näyttelyt

Vaasan katastrofin jälkeen en juuri halunnut käydä näyttelyissä ennen kuin sain askelluksen kuntoon. Kävimme tosiaan sitä treenaamassa oman kuntamme mätsärissä ja voittohan sieltä napsahti. Aikaisemmin luulin, että en osaa esittää koiraa lainkaan, mutta sen jälkeen itsetunto sai kyllä sellaista kultaa, että sillä oli omat vaikutuksensa.

After the disaster at Vaasa, I just didn't want to go to shows before I got my walk into shape. We went and practiced that in a unofficial show at Kempele and we got the first price. Previously, I thought that I can not show a dog at all, but after that my self-esteem got what it needed.

Kävimme kokeilemassa näyttelyä sitten Kemissä 8.6. Tuomarina oli puolalainen Miroslaw Redliki. Koska Lexie on jo "iso tyttö", kilpailimme jo avoimessa luokassa. Onhan se villiä olla siellä "isojen" koirien kanssa. Saimme sieltä kotiaviemiseksi ERIn SA:lla ja sijoituimme luokassamme kolmanneksi. Arvostelun voi lukea Lexien meriiteistä.

After that we went to try showing at Kemi 8th of June. The judge was polish Miroslaw Redliki. Since Lexie is already a "big girl", we competed in the open class. After all, it is wild to be in the ring with those "big" dogs. In the end we got ERI and SA and finished third in our class. You can read Lexie's review from her merits.

Loppuviikosta saimme myös kivan yllärin postissa eli Shetlanninlammaskoirat ry:n ykkösruusukkeen. Haluttomasti olimme kuvassa, koska viikon ajan meidän neiti on ilmeisesti riuhunut tuolla Rajakylän kylillä, joten uni maistui aika hyvin... "Tämänkö takia herätit mut?"

End of the this week we also had a nice surprise in mail from Finnish Shetland Sheepdogs Association - National Show 1st Rosett. We got enough ERI's last year. Reluctantly Lexie was in the picture, because our little missus had apparently run a round Rajakylä the whole week, so sleep tasted pretty good ... "And this was the reason, why you woke me up?"

Viivin kanssa emme näyttelyissä tosiaan enää hirveästi juokse. Päätimme sen aikoinaan, kun huomasimme, että neitimme ei oikeastaan ole mikään ERI-kone. Keskitymme sporttiprinsessamme kanssa agilityyn. Siitä me nautimme.

With Viivi our shows are done. We chose it once when we realized that our missus ain't an ERI machine. We focus on agility with our little sport girl. That is what we really want.


Muuta elämää

Kevät meni tosiaan omistajalla omien henkilökohtaisten saavutusten hankinnassa. Hankinnassa onnistuinkin ja olen nyt tyytyväisesti siitä työstä erossa. Nyt voin keskittyä koirahommiin paremmin työajan ulkopuolella. Kävimme viime viikolla pienellä kesälomareissulla Etelä-Suomessa. Kohteena olivat Ruisrock ja etelän sukulaiset. Koiria emme voineet ottaa mukaan, joten neidit olivat taas Suvin ja Jukan hellässä huomassa viikon. Sitä ennen saimme nauttia neljän koiran seurasta omassa kodissamme, kun Suvi tarvitsi hoitajaa Vilmalle ja Lillille. Hommat menivät taas siis kuin käsikirjoituksessa, joten ei stressiä eikä ongelmia. Neljän koiran kanssa eläminen ei ollut sen ihmeellisempää kuin kahdenkaan. Valitettavasti vesisateet ja ukkoset häiritsivät lenkkeilyämme, mutta onneksi saimme pakolliset lenkkimme tehtyä niiden lomassa + järjestettyä muuta aktiviteettia neideillemme.

Spring really went by fast because of owner's own personal project. I finally got it finished and now I am happy to say that I can now focus on the dog affairs better outside working hours. Last week we went on a summer vacation trip in southern Finland. We visited at Ruisrock and at Petri's relatives. We could not take the dogs with us, so our ladies were again at Suvi and Jukka's being looked after. Before that, we were able to enjoy the company of four dogs in our own home, when Suvi needed a carer for  Vilma and Lilli. Things went like it was on the script, so there was no stress and no problems. Four dogs living with us was not that different than with two of them. Unfortunately, the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms disrupted by jogging, but fortunately we made the mandatory jogs easily + did some other activities.

Näyttelyssä toimimista harjoittelemassa

Olen jo pitkään Petriä suostutellut näyttelyharjoitteluun. Nyt siinä onnistuin ja vein miehen Lexien kanssa kokeilemaan näyttelyssä toimimista paikalliseen mätsäriin. Näyttäminenhän onnistui ihan hyvin, joten voin ehkä ajatella, että Pete voisi joskus kehään muiden kepojen lailla mennä.

For long I have been persuaded Petri to do some show training. Now finally I was able to take my man and Lexie to try out showing at a local match show. Showing went well, so I may be able to think that Pete would sometimes go to the ring the with others.

Mätsäreissä huomasi taas Lexien erään upean ominaisuuden. On ottanut ilmeisesti omistajastaan mallia eli voi nukkua missä vain milloin vain haluaa. Ei haittaa, vaikka ulkona sataisi ja salamoisi. Uni tulee.

At the match show I noticed that our Lexie has a great feature. It is apparently taken from its owner, ie the girl can sleep anywhere, anytime she wants. No matter if it is raining and lightning. Sleep will come.


Sulhon metsästys on alkanut

Niinhän se menee, että jos ei ensimmäisellä yrittämällä onnistu, aina on toinenkin kerta. Se tapahtunee nyt syksyllä, jos kaikki menee hyvin. Astutamme Lexiemme nyt syksyllä ja sulhoa nyt metsästämme.

So it goes that if the first attempt does not succeed, there is always another one. It's taking place now, in the fall, if all goes well. We'll breed our Lexie this fall, and now we are seeking a male for her.

Lomailua ja siviilielämää

Viime kerrasta on taas aikaa, mutta sitäkin enemmän sanottavaa on taas. / It's been a while again, but I have even more so to say after this while.

Agility

Viivin kanssa tosiaan kilpailimme alkuvuodesta hieman, jota jatkamme nyt sitten viikon päästä OKK:n kisoissa. Ilmoitin neidin ehdoille radoille lauantaille eli kaksi lähtöä. Päätimme jättää hypärin välistä tällä kertaa, koska siitä jo luva on. Toiveet ovat taas korkealla, mutta hieman treeneissä on alkanut häiritä tuo  esteiden eli hyppyjen korkeus ei oikein aina neitiä miellytä tai sitten ne vain tuntuvat jotenkin oudoilta meidän Viivistä. Pitää muistaa kisoissa ohjata ne mahdollisimman läheltä, koska silloin ne suoritetaan. Lisäksi keinun kanssa pitää vielä hieman treenata, koska sen lonksahdus aiheuttaa ongelmia sitten puomin kanssa. Samantyyppiset esteet ovat vaikeita.

We started competing with Viivi again this year, which process we continue next weekend on OKK's agility competition. I informed our girl on two starts on Saturday. We decided to leave jump track off this time, because we have that luva from there already. Hopes are again high, but in rehearsals I have noticed that we have a little problem with obstacles or jumping heights. I haveo to keep in mind on track to guide her on those points as close as possible, because then she'll jump them. In addition, we need more work with the swing, because its sound causes problems to us still. Swing and dog walk look alike, so not so good thing. The same types of obstacles are difficult.

Lexien kanssa agilitytreenaaminen on sujunut hieman huonommin. Juoksut sotkivat hommia ja toisaalta neidillä on ollut aina mielenkiinto siellä hieman muualla, vaikka tykkääkin hommasta kovasti. Haukkuminen ja esteiden suoritus yhtäaikaa on aina kivaa. Toisaalta, kun neiti tietää tarkkaan, mitä tekee, haukku loppuu. Viime viikolla kauhein tilanne oli, kun neiti päätti tehdä lentokeinun - kaksi kertaa peräkkäin. Kolmattakin yritettiin, mutta onneksi olin laittanut Lexien hihnaan. Agility training with Lexie has gone a little bit worse. Her heat disrupted our training and on the other hand our girl has always been interested on track of other things than doing the track, though she loves to do those obstacles. Barking and running at the same time is always fun. On the other hand, when she knows exactly what she is doing, barking stops. Last week, the worst situation was when our little lady decided to run over a swing - two times in a row. She tried to do it third time, but luckily I had put Lexie in a strap. The result was plowing the field with her muzzle.  She got a wound on her muzzle and upper jaws long teeth sank in lower lip and did two nice notches there. Fortunately, they were not anything cosmetically undesirable, and will heal on their own well after cleaning.


Näyttelyt - Shows

Lexien kanssa olemme lähdössä Vaasaan katsomaan, miten pärjäisimme. Sinne oli ilmoitettu paljon koiria taas - 33 narttua. Vilskettä siis riittää. Tämä vuosi on siitä huono vuosi näyttelyllisesti, että suurin osa niistä on Etelä-Suomessa tai pitkän ajomatkan takana, joten aina välillä se ajaminen mietityttää. Erkkariin emme ole lähdössä. Tiputimme sen pois listaltamme.

We are going to Vaasa International with Lexie to see how we'll do. Again there are lots of dogs reported - 33 females. Lots of hassle. This year is a bad year for shoe wise, because most of them are in southern Finland, or you have to take a long drive, so every now and then driving puts us to wonder about it. On Shelties Special Show we are not going. We decided to drop it off our list.


Muuta elämää - Other things

Kävimme tosiaan hiihtolomalla Kööpenhaminassa pienellä neljän päivän reissulla kaveriporukan kanssa. Lisäksi ennen reissua kävimme mutkan Tallinnassa ja kävimme katsomassa Helsingissä Queen-musikaalin. Reissu oli upea hienon porukan kanssa. Säät olivat melkein kohdillaan sekä siellä ei lunta ollut. Rentouttava reissu! Nähtävyyksiä, kahviloita, ravintoloita ja museoita!

We had a really nice skiing holiday in Copenhagen. We took a four-day trip there with a small group of friends. In addition, before Copenhagen we took a boat trip to Tallinna and went to see Queen musical at Helsinki. The trip was fantastic with that lot. The weather was almost at its best, and there was no snow. Wonderful trip! Sightseeing, cafes, restaurants and museums!

Loman aikana Viivi ja Lexie olivat koiratuttumme Suvi Viitasaaren luona. Teimme pienet vaihtokaupat eli meidän neidit olivat siellä loman ajan ja hänen koiransa Vilma oli meillä sitten vuorostaa nyt edelliset kaksi viikkoa.

During our trip Viivi and Lexie were staying at our dog friend Suvi Viitasaari's house. We made a small trade, during our trip our ladies were there and after our trip her dog Vilma was at our place. Now two weeks are almost up.

Elämä kolmen koiran kanssa on mennyt loistavasti. Tähän kolmen kirsun tuhinaan ja touhuun on niin tottunut jo. Lenkkeillessä ei ole ollut ongelmia - Vilma on unelmakoira tottelemaan ja tekemään niin kuin pitää. Lisäksi Vilma on antanut upeasti vauhtia meidän neideille villikohtauksineen. Jotenkin siis kirpaisee syvällä sydämessä, kun tietää, että lähenee kohta aika, että Vilmastiina, Vimpula, Vippe (rakkaalla monta nimeä) pitää antaa takaisin omaan kotiin.

Life with three dogs have gone brilliantly. I have gotten used to these three noses and hustle. Jogging has not been a problem - Vilma is a dream dog to obey and do as she is told. In addition, Vilma has given lots of action to our own girls with her crazy running. So it hurts a bit deep in the heart, when you know that the time is approaching, when Vilmastiina, Vimpula, Vippe (loved one has many names) must go back to her own home.

Kahden viikon aikana olemme kolunneet lähimaastot useaan otteeseen. Lisäksi olemme tutustelleet toisten shelttien kanssa, kun olemme tehneet yhteislenkkejä maastoomme naapurin Sarin tyttöjen kanssa. Jopa Olga-collie sai kunnon vauhtia Vilmasta, kun neiti juoksutti koko laumaa. Sitä oli upea katsoa. Lisäksi shelttilenkki Letonniemeen viime viikonloppuna oli hieno reissu. Olimme mukana koko porukalla.

For two weeks, we have run around local terrain on several occasions. In addition, we have got to know the other shelties when we have made trips with our neighbor Sari's girls. Even Olga-collie got a good friend of Vilma, when she ran with the whole flock. It was amazing to look at. In addition, local shelties made a trip on ice to Letonniemi last weekend. We were there with the whole group.

Tätä neitiä katsellessa on vain vahvistunut seuraavan koiran väri - kyllä se merle on. Vilma on niin kaunis väritykseltään ja tuo turkki on ihanan pöyhkeä ja runsas. Jos jostain saisi sellaisen kompaktin kokoisen neitokaisen perheeseemme tai sitten Lexien seuraavasta pentueesta voisimme jättää itsellemme sellaisen, olisin todella onnellinen. Tätä pitää alkaa miettiä tarkemmin. Pentukuumeisen ihmisen elämä on vaikeaa...

When I am watching this lady, it has made clearer our next dog's color - yes it is a merle. Vilma has such a beautiful color and her coat is wonderfully rich and full. If I could get a beautiful merle puppy from somewhere, I would be in heaven. We should buy it or wait one of Lexie's litter. This is a thing I must start thinking more... My life isn't easy with these little fever...

Näyttelykausi 2013 avattu - Kajaani KV 13.1.

Näyttelykausi on täten avattu! Kävimme Peten ja Lexien kanssa pyörähtämässä Kajaanin Tamminäyttelyssä eli 1. kansainvälisessä näyttelyssä tälle vuodelle. Näyttely järjestettiin perinteisesti Kajaanin Pallohallissa, joka on paikkana aina yhtä eksoottinen kuin voi kuvitella: paineilmahalli, jossa on sorapohja. Pienellä plussakelillä voitte kuvitella, millaista mäskiä lattia on ja pakkasella saattaa pikkaisen ehkä vilustuttaa. Näyttelymerkeissähän sinne mennään, joten kunhan kehässä on kaikki kunnossa, kaikki ok.

Show season opened! We went and took a spin at Kajaani Tamminäyttely ie. at 1. international dog show for this year. The dog show was organized traditionally at Kajaani's Football Hall, which is always as exotic as you can imagine: compressed-air hall with a sandy ground. When it is a little warmer weather you can imagine what kind of mash the floor can be, and when it is cold weather you freeze your ass there. You go there to show your dog, so there you go as long as the ring is all right, everything is ok.

Tuomarina Kajaanissa toimi Carin Åkesson Ruotsista. Kehämme oli nro 3, joka oli mukavasti juuri sellaisessa paikassa, että siitä ei ollut pitkä matka minnekään. Lisäksi näyttelyyn oli tulossa Lexien kasvattaja Linda koirineen, joten oli mukava nähdä taas Lindaa pitkästä aikaa. Pystytimme paikkamme kehän laidalle ja laitoin häkin ja pöydän valmiiksi. Lexie kilpailee tästä eteenpäin avoimessa luokassa, koska neiti täytti jo joulun alla 2 vuotta.  Täten tunnukset AVO eli avoin luokka ja AVK eli avoimen luokan kilpailuluokka vilisevät varmasti usein päivityksissämme.

The judge at Kajaani was Carin Åkesson from Sweden. Our ring was no. 3, which was a very good place to be i.e. you were almost in the middle of everything. Before show we heard that Lexie's breeder Linda was coming there with their dogs, so it was nice to see Linda again after a long time. We put up a place for us near our ring and I put everything ready for us. Lexie is competing in the open class from now on, because our little lady turned 2 years just before Christmas. Thus, the letters AVO i.e. open class and AVK i.e. open class competition class certainly will appear frequently on my updates.

Tähän näyttelyyn oli ilmoittautunut 78 shelttiä, joista uroksia oli 31 ja narttuja 47. Narttujen avoimen luokan kehässä oli tänä vuonna 15 koirakkoa. Kehämme meni hyvin ja näyttelimme itsemme hienosti erinomaisen arvoiseksi eli AVO ERI. Kilpailuluokassa olisimme toivoneet korkeampaa sijoitusta, mutta tuomarin ilmeestä näki, että emme valitettavasti korkeammalle pääsisi. Sijoituksemme oli siis AVK 4. Turkkimme ruskeat kohdat loistivat niin hyvin esiin tässä kelmeässä valossa. Kimi Räikkösen sanoin: "Teimme parhaamme ja tänään se riitti tähän." Seuraavalla kerralla teemme paremmin. At this show there were 78 shelties: 31 males and 47 females. At the bitches open class there were 15 dogs. Our ring went well and we showed ourselves worthy of the excellent EXC. In competitive class, we would have preferred a higher ranking, but we saw of the judges look that, unfortunately, we do not reach higher. Our placement was 4th. Lexie's furs brown points shone out well in the pallid light. As Kimi Raikkonen said: "We did our best today and this was all we got." Next time we'll do better. (Review.)

Oli kiva, että Lindakin oli paikalla. Hän kävi antamassa hyviä vinkkejä minulle eli oma henkilökohtainen tuki on aina hyväksi pitkän tauon jälkeen. Tilailin häneltä myös erään olennaisen näyttelytarvikkeen, koska haluamme olla eduksemme. Seuraavassa näyttelyssä toivottavasti voimme sitä näytellä.

It was nice that Linda was there. She came and gave me good tips for me i.e. I had my personal support  there which is always good after a long break. I ordered from her a one very essential show equipment, because we want to show in our favor. In the next show, hopefully we can show it to everyone else.


Muita kuulumisia

Viivin poika Sisukin oli harjoitellut ensimmäisiä näyttelyitään Rovaniemellä lapsi ja koira -kisassa. Mätsäreissä pikkumies oli sijoittunut toiseksi. Hienosti siis on poikaa hoidettu ja treenattu. Kuvassa pikkumies ja kuvaajana Kati Määttä.

Viivi's son Sisu had practiced show behavior in the first exhibition at Rovaniemi in a child and a dog competition. At that match show the little man was second. The boy is in good hands and trained well. In the photo is our little man and the photographer is Kati Määttä.

Hieno viikonloppu - infoa, koirakavereita, pentuja sekä serti!

Tämä viikonloppu oli todellakin tapahtumarikas. Kävimme lauantaina 25.8. Susadanin kasvattipäivillä Haukiputaalla Häyrysenniemessä sekä sunnuntaina 26.8. Rovaniemellä Elo-Show'ssa. Olimme mananneet suuria asioita Kuopiosta lähdettäessä, joten ne piti lunastaa. Toisaalta viikonloppuun mahtui myös hieman surkeampiakin asioita, mutta iloisissa merkeissä. Viivi-mammamme lähti sunnuntaina äitiyslomalle kasvattajan eli Maaritin tykö. Neiti on nyt kotoa poissa 2 kk.

This weekend was certainly eventful. We went on Saturday 25.8. to Susadan's breeder meeting at Haukipudas Häyrysenniemi and on Sunday 26.8. we went to Rovaniemi August-Show. We had maid some promises beforehand, so they had to be redeemed. On the other hand the weekend also included miserable things, but in joyful marks. Viivi-mom went on maternity leave on Sunday to the breeders house. She is now 2 months away from home.

Susadanin kasvattipäivät

Heli haistelee pentuhajuja...

Kävimme lauantaina toisen kerran jo Susadanin kasvattipäivillä. Toivottavasti tästä muodostuu perinne, ja voimme viedä neitimme tulevaisuudessakin tällaisille päiville. Toisaalta siellä päivillä ollessani huomasin, että kaipaisimme muutenkin shelttiseuraa aina viikottain esim. lenkkien parissa. Taidamme siis aktivoitua uudelleen noille shelttilenkeille.

We went on Saturday for the second time to Susadan's breeder meeting. Hopefully, this comes a tradition, and we can take our girls there in the future too. On the other hand there at the meeting, I noticed that we miss sheltie company every week. So I think we're going to re-active our visits at Sheltie Jog every Sunday.

Tiina ja Aini olivat varanneet meille Koljun majan Koljun venesataman kupeesta. Se on hieno paikka viettää aikaa. Siellä on iso pirtti, jonne voi mennä sateelta suojaan ja iso piha, missä koirat voivat telmiä, ihmiset voivat seurustella sekä paistaa makkaraa. Lisäksi siellä on sauna, jota voi myös lämmittää. Sääkin osui kohdalleen, joten oli mukava viettää ko. päivää. Mikäs oli sen mukavampaa kuin katsoa koirien telmimistä keskenään tai haistella pentuja pentuaitauksessa.

Lexie ja isä Pepsi

Tiina and Aini had booked us Kolju's hut near Kolju's marina. It's a great place to spend time. There is a big living space, where you can go in case of rain and a big yard, where the dogs can have fun, people can socialize, as well as grill sausages. In addition, there is a sauna, which can also be heated. The weather fell into place, so it was nice to spend time there. What would be nicer than to smell puppies or watch shelties play together. 

Katsetta ei voinut vastustaa...

Kasvattipäivät eivät ole vain istumista ja seurustelua, vaan siellä saa aina uutta infoa kaikesta tiedosta, mitä koiramaailmaan on tullut. Tällä kertaa saimme tietoa ravinnoista ja ruokinnasta sekä trimmausapua Tiinalta halutessamme. Mehän käytimmekin tätä palvelua hyväksemme, koska seuraavana päivänä menisimme Rovaniemelle. Tarvitsimme serti-trimmin. Tiina sen sitten antoikin ja laittoi Lexien parhaaseen paraatikuntoon. Iltapäivä meni nopeasti näissä merkeissä. Valitettavasti seuraavan päivän laittamiset odottivat, joten lähdimme kotiin pesemään koiramme seuraavaa päivää varten.

The meeting are not just sitting and socializing, but there is always new info for us of all the information, what the dog world has produced. This time we got the information about nutrition and feeding, as well as trimming help from Tiina. We used this service, because the next day we would go to Rovaniemi. We needed a certificate-trim. Tiina then gave it and put Lexie in best shape. Afternoon went quickly. Unfortunately, the next days things waited for us, so we went home to wash the dogs for the next day.

Rovaniemen Elo-Show

Sunnuntaina kävimme pyörähtämässä Rovaniemellä ryhmänäyttelyssä. Tämä näyttely olisi meidän viimeinen tälle kesälle ja vuodelle, koska tämän jälkeen ajattelimme jättää Lexie-neitimme lomalle. Tavoitteena oli lopettaa kesä tyylikkäästi ja sehän onnistui!

On Sunday, we went to a group show at Rovaniemi. This would be our last show for this summer and for the year, because then we thought we'd leave our Miss Lexie on holiday. The aim was to end the summer in style, and in that we succeeded!

Rovaniemen näyttely järjestettiin Puistolammin pallokentällä. Mukana näyttelyssä olivat FC1- ja FC2-ryhmät. Tuomarina shetlanninlammaskoirille toimi Eriksson Eva Ruotsista. Mukana oli 43 shelttiä, joista pentuja oli 4, uroksia 18 ja narttuja 25. Shelttijunnut arvioitiin kehässä 2 ja heidän tuomarinsa oli Elina Tan-Hietalahti. Kuitenkin shelttien pääarvioinnin teki Eva Eriksson.

Rovaniemi show was held at Puistolampi ball field. The exhibition was for FC1 and FC2 groups. The judge of Shetland Sheepdog was Eva Eriksson from Sweden. There were 43 shelties, of which four were puppies, 18 were males and 25 were females. Junior Shelties were evaluated in the ring 2 by judge Elina Tan-Hietalahti. However shelties main judge was Eva Eriksson.

Meidän kesämme oli mennyt tähän asti hienosti. Olimme saaneet tämän vuoden aikana kerättyä Lexielle hienon ERI-suoran, joten nyt olisi hyvä saada jotain kivaa vielä lopuksi, mihin olisi hyvä lopettaa. Tietysti toiveet olivat korkealla! Esimerkiksi naureskelimme Petrin kanssa, että lähdemme sertiä hakemaan Rovaniemeltä. Muuhun emme olisi tyytyväisiä. Hieman kyllä meinasi ehkä olla suuret luulot, mutta onneksi meidän ei tarvinnut tulla kotiin tyhjin käsin.

Our summer we had gone very well so far. We had received this year for Lexie a fine row of EXCellent, so now would be good to get something nice, where it would be good to end this summer. Of course expectations were high! For example, we were chuckling with Petri, that we went there to pick us up a certificate. Otherwise we would not be happy. A little bit high hopes, but fortunately we did not have to come home empty-handed.

Löysimme paikkamme ihan kehän laidalta, josta pääsimme seuraamaan tapahtumia + sitä, mistä tuomari tykkäsi. Mittatikku oli käytössä usein, joten ainakin koosta tuomari oli tarkka. Toisaalta en juuri ehtinyt seurailla muuta trimmatessani Lexiä kehäkuntoon. Lisäksi keskityin neitiin muutenkin, kun harjoittelimme kulkua ja käyttäytymistä kehässä.

We found a lovely place beside the circle, where we were able to follow the events + see of what judge liked. Dipstick was in use often, so of size the judge was very strict. On the other hand I just had no time to follow the others, because I was grooming Lexie to ring shape. In addition, I focused on our miss anyway, when we practiced walking and behavior in the ring.

Pian olikin narttujen vuoro astua kehään. Koska junnut arvioitiin toisessa kehässä, aloitettiin meidän kehämme heti nuorista nartuista. Kehässämme oli neljä narttua. Me kilpailimme nrolla 32. Tuomari kävi lävitse kaikki koirat tarkasti. Meidän kehämme meni hienosti. Lexie kulki taas kuin unelma ja käyttäytyi mallikelpoisesti koko ajan. Tämä toikin meille omasta vuorostamme ERI:n. Kilpaluokassa toimimme myös hienosti ja tuomari sijoitti meidät luokkamme voittajaksi eli olimme NUK1 ja ainoastaan me saimme luokastamme SA:n. JIHUU! Pääsisimme ainakin yrittämään sertiä!

Soon it was females turn to enter the ring. Because the juniors were evaluated in the second ring, we started our ring of the young females. At our ring there were four females. We competed on number 32. The judge went through all the dogs carefully. We did great at our turn. Lexie ran like a dream again, and behaved exemplary manner at all times. This behavior and moving gave us EXCellent. In competing class we also competed well and judge placed us in the first place so we were NUK1 and only we got worth a certificate badge aka pink ribbon. JIHUU! Now we could at least try to get that certificate.

Paras narttu -kehää odottelimmekin jonkin aikaa. Siinä ehtikin hieman rauhoittua kehävoitosta. Olin onnellinen, koska olimme matkalla oikeaan suuntaan. Aloinkin sitten lopulta laittamaan Lexietä paras narttu -kehää varten. Hieman pöyhintää ja menoksi. PN-kehässä meinasi hieman jännittää, miten nyt kävisi. Toiveena oli sijoittua mahdollisimman ylös. Tuomari näytti tykkäävän Lexiestä ja jäimmekin lopulta viimeisen neljän joukkoon. Lexie sijoittui PN-kehässä lopulta kierroksen jälkeen toiseksi. Koska voittaja oli jo valio, tippui sertifikaatti meille eli saimme kuin saimmekin sen! AIVAN MAHTAVA TUNNE! Tämä oli se juttu, mitä tulimme hakemaan. Arvostelu oli myös hieno!

Best Bitch ring we had to wait for some time. At that time I had time to calm down after our winning our ring. I was happy because we were on the right track. I began then eventually put Lexie at best for best bitch ring. A little combing and puffing and then on we go. BB-ring almost got us a little nervous, what would happen now. The hope was to rank as high as possible. The judge seemed to like Lexie so we were left at the ring finally as one of the last four. Lexie ranked eventually at BB-ring a second. As the winner was already champion, we got the certificate! JUST A GREAT FEELING! This was the thing what we came looking for. Our review was great too!

Hieman näyttelyn jälkeen nauratti, että emme me turhaan uhonneet hakevamme sertiä täältä. Niin vain kävi ja saimme sen, mitä halusimmekin. Kimi Räikkönen -asenne tehosi: "Teemme parhaamme ja katsomme, minne se riittää." Tulos oli riittävä.

After the show we giggled, that we did not unnecessarily spoke of getting that certificate from Rovaniemi. It just happened and we got what we wanted. Kimi Raikkonen attitude worked: "We'll do our best and see is that enough." Our performance was adequate.
