OULU KV - Iloisen koiran näyttely 13.8.2016

Viime viikonloppuna kävimme pitkästä aikaa näyttelyssä. Suunnittelin jo kesän alussa, että kävisimme ainakin yhdessä näyttelyssä koko porukalla. Tarkoituksena hakea harraste-H:t Arwenille ja Galalle ja tietysti kokeilla Monan ja Lexien kanssa, josko ERI-polku aukeaisi. Viime kerroilla oli aika haastavaa. / Last weekend it was a show time. I planned in the beginning of this summer that we will attend in one show with the whole group. Arwen and Gala needs those hobby-H's for agility, and of course I have to try to get ERI with Mona and Lexie, if our ERI path could open up. Recently it has been quite challenging.

Oulu KV eli Iloisen koiran näyttely järjestettiin Oulun Äimäraution raviradalla. Olin edellisenä iltana ollut pystyttämässä kehiä ja purkamassa palkintoja. Näyttelyn tekivät paikalliset koirayhdistykset yhdessä, joten senkin takia oli tärkeää mennä maksamaan kannatusmaksu. / Oulu INT aka Joyful Dog's show was held in Oulu Äimärautio racetrack. Lauantaiaamu aukesi kauniisti vesisateisena ja synkkänä. Tiesin, että tästä ei tule kyllä kesää, mutta sinne me suuntasimme Petrin kanssa ja mietimme, onko tässä järkeä. Uutiset Shetlanninlammaskoirien erikoisnäyttelystä Helsingistä olivat samanmoiset. Vesisade oli molemmissa läsnä ja vahvasti. Saavuimme näyttelypaikalle melko hyvissä ajoin ja haimme teltallemme sopivan paikan läheltä kehäämme. Petri laittoi teltan pystyyn sateen piiskatessa meitä ja tavaroitamme. Tuomarina toimi Igoris Zizevskis. Harmitti hieman, että viikolla tapahtui tuomarivaihdos juuri kehässämme, mutta tällä mentiin. Se on pelin henki. Mona oli hieman luimuna vesisateesta ja ei todellakaan tehnyt parastaan. Tuloksena oli EH. Koska ERI-tuloksia ei tästä kehästä tullut neljää, kaikki ERI:t ja EH:t pääsivät vielä kerran pyörähtämään kilpaluokassa. Oli hirveä odottaa vesisateessa kilpakehää. Tässä täytyy sanoa, että onneksi Petri oli pyytänyt Maiju Mertalan ketyksemme tuuraamaan, jos en ehdi nakata Monaa telttaan ajoissa. Petri ja Arwen menivät yksilöimään ekana. Petri pääsi kokeilemaan oikeaa näyttelyä ensimmäistä kertaa, ja täytyy sanoa, että mätsärit kutsuvat enemmän tätä paria eli harjoittelua tarvitaan. Juoksin tässä välissä Hennan ja Maijun telttaan kuivaamaan Lexien ja hieman harjailemaan neitoa. Olin iloinen, vaikka olin luihin ja ytimiin asti märkä. Jotenkin en vain välittänyt vesisateesta. Pian PN-kehä alkoi ja siellä seisoimme jälleen rivissä. Tuomari kävi usein luonamme, juoksutti meitä kehässä tiuhasti ympäri. Hän kävi usein luonamme ja tutkimassa meitä. Viime viikolla kävimme pitkästä aikaa agilitykisoissa Petrin ja koiriemme kanssa. Teemu kävi hieromassa Viivin ja Lexien kuntoon viikolla, joten oli hyvä mennä kisaamaan paikat varmoina. Nostin kesän lopulla Viivin 2. luokkaan, joten nyt Petrillä oli helppo aloittaa oma tekeminen puhtaalta pöydältä. He tekivätkin hyvää tulosta viikonloppuna. Mona kävi tiistaina tällä viikolla perusrakennetutkimuksissa - polvet, kyynärät, lonkat ja silmät. Niistä enemmän kohta. Last week, we went to an agility competition in Oulu with Petri and the dogs. Teemu massaged our girls - Viivi and Lexie - so they were up to the challenge. Agilitykisat - OKK 12. - 13.3.2016

Oulun Koirakerho järjesti maaliskuun kisansa viimeisenä hiihtolomaviikonloppuna. Petri oli ilmoittanut Viivin kolmeen starttiin 2 luokassa, ja minä Lexien kahteen starttiin 1 luokassa. Tuomareina oli Allan Mattsson ja Tomas Berglund. Petrin kanssa osallistuimme Allanin radoille. Lisäksi viikonloppuna kisaamassa oli myös kasvattimme Himppu (Elentarion Luthien Tinuviel). Erika ja Himppu aloittivat urakkansa 1. luokassa.

Petrin kisat olivat loistavat - 2 nollatulosta ja 1 rata pienellä virheellä. Samalla mies sai kalastettua 2 LUVAa sijoittuen hyppyradalla 2. ja perusradalla hän vei Viivin kanssa luokkavoiton. Alla radat ihasteltavaksi.

Oulu Dog Club held an agility competition on the last weekend of our ski holiday. Petri announced Viivi to three starts in 2nd class, and I took two starts with Lexie in the 1st class. The judges were Allan Mattsson and Tomas Berglund. We had the opportunity to anntend only on Allan's tracks. In addition, one of our puppies from A-litter, Himppu (Elentarion Luthien Tinuviel), attented in the competition too. Erika and Himppu began their career through 1st class . Lexien kanssa meillä radat eivät sujuneet niin helposti, mutta saimme erään saavutuksen tehtyä radalla eli keinun suoritettua omatoimisesti. Our competiton with Lexie wasn't that good. But if you have to find something positive, then I could say, that our swing went amazingly. It was her first time to do it on her own. Hopefully we can correct it in the future.

Mona ja terveystarkki 15.3.2016, Eläinsairaala Evidensia

Älkää pelästykö nimeä, koska Animagi vaihtui toiseksi Oulussa. Ella Saarenpää oli pistänyt pystyyn joukkotarkastuksen, ja ilmoittauduimme mukaan. Odotukset olivat korkealla ja jännäriä oli omistajallakin ilmassa, kun kävelin sisään ovesta. Paikalla oli muutama shelttikaverikin, jotka heti kiinnostivat. Maksupäätteellä asioinnin jälkeen aloitimme lomakeurakan. Lisäksi, koska silmätarkastus oli ensimmäisenä, piti meidän saada turrutustipat laitettua silmään. Pian olikin meidän vuoromme astua sisään ja tutkittavaksi. Polvet käytiin lävitse ensin. Molemmat olivat hyvässä kunnossa. Odotusaulassa ei kestänyt kauaa, kun neiti nukahti unten maille. Lääkäri kävi koppaamassa neidin mukaansa ja vei tutkittavaksi. I didn't have to wait in the lobby long, when our little one fell asleep. Then the doctor came and took our little sleeping beauty for examination. I don't remember, when have I been this nervous last time, while I was waiting for the results and notice that the lady is in the recovery room. Soon the call was made and I was able to have a look at the x-rays and our little lady in recovery room. Hip photos were good and elbows excellent. Kennel Club will give their opinion of them. Mistä meidät löytää? / Where to find us?

On taas tullut aika päivittää asioita tänne meidän blogiimme. Elämä on joskus hiljaista ja mitään ei tapahdu - tai tapahtuu, mutta kauhealla vauhdilla. Työkiireiden ja kaiken muun sekamelskan takia aika kuluu siivillä. Kesä on ollut hyvin rauhallista aikaa näyttelyineen ja agilitykilpailuineen. Lisäksi olemme ehtineet hieman nautiskellakin ja ottaa rennosti. Syksykin on hurahtanut ihmetellessä asioita. Kasvattajan näkökulmasta on ollut ihana seurata Monan kasvua, toisaalta oppia uutta edellisen pentueemme tyttösistä. Sheltti on upea koira - sen on huomannut tänä vuonna niin monella tapaa.

It is again time to update things from our world here to our blog. Life is sometimes quiet and nothing will happen - or happens, but with a terrible pace. Due to the pressures of work and everything else the time flies. Summer has been very restful time with some dog shows and agility competitions. In addition, we have been able to enjoy a little bit and take it easy. Autumn has been the time for wondering about things. From breeder's point of view, this time has been wonderful. I have had lots of time to follow Mona's growth, on the other hand to learn new things out of our girls from previous litter. Sheltie is gorgeous and wonderous dog - I have noticed this in so many ways.

Puheenjohtajana Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:ssä

Tänä vuonna olen toiminut puheenjohtaja Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:ssä. Mukanani toiminnassa ovat olleet upeat hallituslaiseni. Heidän kanssaan on ollut ihana tehdä töitä ja saan kiittää heitä paljosta. Tänä vuonna tehokkaimmaksi ajaksi voisi katsoa nimenomaan kesän ja syksyn. Keväällä teimme ns. kurssitoimintaa, ja harjoittelimme yhteistyötä hallituslaisten kanssa. Kesä meni suunnitellessa syksyä ja syksyllä toteutimme paljon. Teimme yhdessä Shetlanninlammaskoirat ry:n kanssa sivuerikoisnäyttelyn Nallikarissa, järjestimme agilityviikonlopun yhdessä kouluttajamme Iina Asunnan kanssa, järjestimme luonnetestin Haukiputaalla sekä vielä suuren suuren match show'n Oulunsalossa Kalakaverin kanssa. Mukana oli ihania ihmisiä, joiden panosta edelleen arvostan niin suuresti. Siten olenkin tässä vuoden aikana kypsytellyt mielessäni ajatusta, että voisin jatkaa ensi vuoden puheenjohtajana, jos yhdistysläiseni näin haluavat. Toimintaa olisi mukava kehittää nyt entisestään. Saada siihen pysyvyyttä ja selkeän rungon.

This year I have served as Chairman of the Northern Finland Shelties Association. With me in action there has been a spectacular board of members. With them I have had the pleasure to work with and I truly like to thank them for that. This year, the most effective period of time has been the summer and the autumn. In the spring, we made the so-called course activities and practiced the new job at hand together. Summer went into designing the autumn and in the autumn we carried out a lot. We worked together with The Finnish Shetland Sheepdog Association and did a side special exhibition at Nallikari, we organized an agility weekend, together with the trainer Iina Asunta, we organized a nature test for dogs in Haukipudas, and yet we did a great great match show in Oulunsalo with Kalakaveri. There were wonderful people, whose input I still appreciate so much. Thus, I have been thinking about it a lot, and I think that I would like to continue as chairman next year, if other members wish so. It would be nice to develop our association further - make the organization stabile and build a clear frame to it.

Mona - Susadan Freya

Mona täytti syyskuussa 1 vuotta. Niin tämä meidän neitokainen kasvaa. Täytyy sanoa, että tytöstä on kasvanut varsinainen kaunotar niin mieleltään kuin ulkonäöltään. Harmillisinta tytössä on koko, mutta se olkoot hyve, kun ajattelemme jalostuksellisia tavoitteitamme.

Mona celebrated her first birthday in September. So this is how fast our young lady grows. I must say that the girl has grown to be an actual beauty queen - in mind as in appearance. One fault which I hate is the size, but I will let it be a virtue, when we think of the breeding goals.

Kesällä kävimme Monan kanssa muutamassa näyttelyssä (Ylivieska, Oulu, Muhos), mutta meitä rankaistiin aina koosta. Se hieman jäi harmittamaan, ja siksi emme käyneetkaan kovin monessa näyttelyssä. Annamme neidin kehittyä - tosin tuskin se tuomareiden ajatus koosta muuttuu edes iän mukana. Seuraavana mielessä jalostuksellisesti tietysti silmä-, lonkka-, polvi- ja kyynärkuvaus. In the summer we went to few shows with Mona (at Ylivieska, Oulu, Finland and Muhos), but we were always punished for our size. It was a little bit disappointed, and that why we did not do so very many shows. We let our little lady to evolve - although hardly the ​​judges will not change their opinion about the size, even with age. The next obstacle before breeding are of course the eye, hip, knee and elbow x-rays. If we get the green light, we will begin the actual hunt for groom.

Mona aloitti syksyllä myös agilityn alkeet Petrin kanssa. Heillä tuntuu toimivan tuo yhteistyö hyvin ja Mona näyttää nauttivan siitä tekemisestä. Hieman korkeat paikat pelottavat, mutta se on ihan normaalia pienelle pennulle. Kaikkeen tottuu treenin myötä.

Mona began the agility with Petri this autumn. They seem to hit it off well and cooperation works well with Mona. Our little girl seems to enjoy it. High places seems to be frightening, but it is quite normal for a small puppy. She will get used to it after time and training.


Viivi - Dash'ing Glamourous Geisha

Viivi nousi kuin nousikin 2. luokkaan kesän lopulla. Petri on yrittänyt pitkään nollaa, mutta aina se on jäänyt pienen virheen taakse (kerran jopa virheettömästä suorituksesta ei saatu nollaa). Petri on treenannut neitiä todella paljon koko kesän ja yhteistyö alkoi lopulta toimia. Harmillisesti Petri loukkasi jalkansa, ja jalka jouduttiin kipsaamaan. Tämä tarkoitti pientä taukoa kisaamisesta. Henna sitten otti ohjat käsiin ja viimeisteli kesken jääneen työnsä eli nosti neidin kakkosiin, että Petri pääsee puhtaalta pöydältä tekemään tulosta. Upeasti neiti liitelikin, vaikka hieman hakemista olikin. Ohjaajalla ei vain vauhti meinannut pysyä päällä.

Viivi rose to 2nd class at the end of the summer. Petri has been trying for a long time to get the last zero, but always there has been a little mistake on the track (once even a flawless performance was not a zero). Petri has been working out a lot with Viivi this summer, and their co-operation has developed a lot during the summer. Unfortunately Petri hurt his leg, and the leg had to be plastered for two weeks. This meant a small break from racing. Henna then took the lead and finished her unfinished work with Viivi and lifted her to 2nd class so that Petri can start from clear table. On track Viivi exquisitely flew, although there were a bit more searching that with Petri. The pilot had a hard time to keep up with the dog.

Lexie - Kråkeslottets Miss Lexus

Lexien kanssa on ollut hieman hankalaa ja taistelua, vaikkakin agilityhommat ovat hiljalleen alkaneet rullata eteenpäin. Neidistä on vaikka mihin, mutta ohjaajasta ei. Ohjaaja tuntee olonsa todella huonokuntoiseksi ja ylipainoiseksi. Haaveena olisi talvikaudella saada pois painoa. Sitten olisimme terveempi tiimi. Nyt tuntuu jotenkin, että molempien jaksaminen hidastaa meidän hommaa. Yritämme keksiä keinoja saada asia kuntoon.

With Lexie we have had a little bit difficulties and struggle, although agility has slowly begun to roll forward. Our little lady has it in her, even though the pilot does not. Pilot feels really unfit and overweight. Our dream would be during the winter season to lose the extra weight. Then we would have a healthier team. Now I feel somehow that our both endurance slows our development. We are trying to come up with a plan how we are able to win this fight.

Näyttelyissä Lexie selvisi kesällä keskinkertaisesti. ERI-linjalle pääsimme takaisin kesän viimeisissä näyttelyissä, mutta jokin Lexiessä on, mikä ei tuomareiden silmää miellytä. Sitä pyrimme nyt hakemaan. Ehkä laihduttaminen antaisi neitiin uutta eloa.

In shows Lexie survived the summer averagely. We got back to EXC-line in the last summer's exhibitions, but there seems to be something in Lexie, which doesn't meet the eye with judges. We now try to find it out, what that may be - weight, movement? 

Gala ja Arwen - Elentarion Galadriel ja Arwen Undomiel

Gala ja Arwen ovat koko kesän juosseet mukanamme agilitytreeneissä. Kehitystä on tapahtunut, vaikkakin takapakkiakin on tullut. Saimme molemmille talvitreenipaikankin, joten olemme nyt kehittyneet huomattavasti. Arwen ja Petri ovat loistavia, samoin Hennalla ja Galallakin on alkanut luistaa homma. Tytöt kehittyvät valtavasti koko ajan. Heidän luontaisia vaistojaan moneen asiaan on ihana seurata. Toisaalta molemmilla heistä on todella kylmä pää moneen asiaan eli mikään ei kauheasti pelota kumpaakaan. Galan bravuureita on irtoaminen. Kun Lexie on kiinni aina ohjaajassaan, Gala on ihan päinvastoin. Voin sanoa kentän toiselta laidalta puomin ja neiti juoksee sinne. Aika hienoa?

Gala and Arwen have run throughout the summer with us in agility training. We have made a lot of progress, although there have been few setbacks. We got groups for both in winter training, so we have now evolved considerably. Arwen and Petri are great, as well Henna and Gala have found the same language. Girls develop tremendously all the time. Their natural instincts to many things is wonderful to follow. On the other hand both of them are very cool-headed. There are not so many things they are afraid of. Gala is good at independent work. When Lexie is close or near the pilot, Gala is just the opposite. I can say from the other side of the track "a bridge" and Gala runs and does it. Sounds great, does it?

Arwen osoitti liitotaitoja tuossa aikaisemmin syksyllä. Petri ja Arwen harjoittelivat A-kontaktia. Arwen juoksi A:n muutaman kerran ylitse normaalisti, mutta sitten alkoi neiti hieman kuumentua. Seuraavaksi A juostiin vauhdilla, ponkaistiin korkeimmalta kohdalta ilmaan niin, että liito jatkui n. 2,5 metrissä kauas A:sta. Alas tultiin tietysti vetovoiman mukaisesti, ja säikähdimme Petrin kanssa molemmat, että neiti hajottaa itsensä. Niin ei käynyt, vaan A:lle piti päästä uudelleen. Reikäpääksi ristimme meidän pienen mustan tyttösemme.

Arwen showed off her flying skills in the autumn. Petri and Arwen practiced the A-contact. Arwen did the A over a couple of times normally, but then she started run a bit hot. Next time she speeded up the A, and then at the highest point of the A, she jumped in the air, so that she continued to fly in the air - about in 2.5 meters - away from the A. Then she dropped down from there, and we were both startled with Petri that she must have broken something when she hit the floor. This did not happen, but she went towards A like nothing happened. We christened her "reikäpää" - our little flying black girl.

Muutama vinkki pysyä kiireisenä / Few Tips for Busy Life with Dogs

Kennel Elentarionissa on muutama kuukausi vain oltu ja tehty töitä. Kevät on kiireisintä aikaa niin opiskelijalle kuin opettajallekin, ja se on näkynyt. Keikkatyö Kemissä ja päätyö Oulussa eivät ole helpottaneet arkea. Petrikin on tehnyt niin opintojaan kuin sitten Valmennuskeskuksen opetuksiaan. Onneksi kesä tuli viimein!

Our kennel has live a very quiet life these past few months. All what we have done has been our daily work. Spring is the busiest time as a student and as a teacher, and we really have felt it. Working in two places - in Kemi and in Oulu - has not eased up our daily life. Petri has had his studies and teaching job too. Fortunately, the summer is here - now - enjoy!

Viivi 6 vuotta - Our little Geisha turned 6 years old

Viivi täytti 16.5. 6 vuotta. Nyt esikoisshelttineitimme alkaisi olemaan aikuisen naisen iässä. Turhat pentumaisuudet on karistettu pois (ainakin luulemme niin), ja harrastuksissa keskittymiskykyä voisi olla enemmän. Aika kuluu nopeasti. / Our Geisha - Viivi - turned 6 years old on 16th of May. Now our first sheltie starts to be a full grown sheltie woman. There is no puppy like behavior anymore (or we think so), and when doing things, the concentration is high. Time really flyes...

Agility

Kesäkauden treenit on aloitettu ja pääsimme viimein viime viikolla ensimmäisen kerran kokeilemaan treenaamista. Taukoa pidimme ihan tarkoituksella, että josko kaikki typerä käyttäytyminen unohtuisi. Lisäksi Gala aloitti nyt viimein oikean aksaamisen eli ohjatun treenaamisen. Ensimmäinen kertamme ei ollut helppo, koska samassa ryhmässä on myös Himppu. Alussa tytöt laukkasivat toistensa luokse aina, kun siihen avautui mahdollisuus. Ei ohjaajaa kannata kuunnella.

Summer training season has started and we were able to start them too finally last week for the first time. We took a little break deliberately that if all the silly behavior of ours could be forgotten. In addition, Gala is now finally starting  her road to stardom in agility. Our first time was not easy, because in the same training group we also have our "little" sister Himppu. In the beginning the girls raced over to each other whenever there opened up an opportunity to do so. They didn't listen at all. "Thou shall not listen thou master".

Gala oli kuitenkin aika nopea tyttö oppimaan ja saimmekin tehtyä putki- ja hyppytreeniä hieman. Kovasti pitää tehdä töitä, että saamme neidin edes lähellekään Himpun tasoa. Himppu oli treeneissä kyllä ihan primustavaraa. Oli ihana katsoa neidin menoa kentällä. Vauhtia piisaa, vaikka pieni neitokainen onkin. Samalla mieleeni hiipivät ajatukset Velhosta, ja siitä, kuinka Velhon agilityura etenee. Silmä tai ei, jos koira nauttii hommastaan, sen pitäisi sitä tehdä. Toivottavasti Pialla on ollut aikaa harrastaa. Pia lähettikin muutaman kuvan Velhostamme. Iso poika siitä on kasvanut, vaikkakin pystykorva.

However, the Gala was pretty fast learner and we got the girl in pipe and do couple of jumps after a little workout. There is lot of hard work ahead, so that we can be anywhere near the level of the little lady Himppu. Himppu is so good at it - so good. It was amazing to look at that little girl to do the track. Lots of speed in those little legs. At the same time my mind started to think about Velho, and how Velho's agility is proceeding. Two eyes or one, if your dog enjoys it, then you should do it. Hopefully, Pia has had time to practice agility with Velho. Pia sent some pictures of Velho. Big boy already, although pointy ears...

Lexien kanssa menimme myös treenaamaan samana päivänä. Teemu kävi edellisellä viikolla hieromassa neitiä, ja olimmekin sitten treenivalmiita tämän viikon koitoksiin. Olin yllättynyt, kuinka kivasti meillä meni yksiin. Kun ohjaaja muistaa pitää selkänsä suorana, Lexie ohjautuu nätisti esteille. Puomi ja A menivät todella hienosti, kun askellus menee oikeisiin kohtiin. Lopussa myös keinullekin mentiin omaehtoisesti, eikä enää pelätty. Autoin tosin alaslaskussa kädelläni niin, että tömähdys oli pehmeä, ei kova. Meillä menee yksiin mukavasti. Vauhtiakin tuli lisää, kun nostin tosiaan itseni pystyyn.

With Lexie we had our own training group on the same day. Teemu had massaged our lady in shape the week before, so we were ready to do our workout. I was surprised how nicely we did all. When I remember to keep my backs straight, Lexie goes nicely to the obstacles. Bridge and the A went really well, as long as the contact surfaces are touched correctly. At the end of session the swing was done on her own, and no longer with fear. I helped a bit though when the swing went down, so that the thump was soft, not hard. We have paired up nicely. We have bit more speed, when I lift myself up.

Näyttelyt - Dog Show's

Ilmoitin viimein kesälle tyttösemme ensimmäisiin näyttelyihin. Tyttösillä tarkoitan Monaa ja Lexietä. Lähdemme nyt takaisin näyttelymaailmaan pienen tauon jälkeen. Katsotaan, mitä tulokset tuovat tullessaan. Lexie olisi kiva saada ainakin kahden sertin tytöksi. Monalle taas olisi mukava saada näyttelymaailma auki. Ensimmäinen näyttelymme on siis Muhos kesäkuun alussa. Pidetään peukkuja. Koitamme saada isomman neidin kiinteytymään lihaksistoltaan, joten se tarkoittaa kovaa treeniä vielä kuukauden ajan. Toivottavasti ponnistelumme tuottavat tulosta.

I announced our girls - Lexie and Mona - in the first dog show's for this summer. We're going to back there after a little break. Let's see what the results will bring on our way. It would be nice to hunt down the second certificate for Lexie. To Mona it would be nice to show the dog show world. Our first show is at the beginning of June at Muhos. All of you - keep your fingers crossed. We try to train and enhance Lexies muscles, so it means hard training sessions for her. Hopefully, our efforts are giving results in the summer.

Monan kanssa kävimme harjoittelemassa näyttelyä Kaakkurin mätsärissä Vappuna. Olimme aiemmin harjoitelleet pöydällä olemista, mutta emme sitten sitä juoksentelua niinkään. Siellä pääsimme oikeassa paikassa harjoittelemaan liikkumista kehässä. Monan kanssa hilputtelimme sitten pienten sinisten ykköseksi ja lopulta BIS-kehässä olimme 8. Ihan mukavaa, koska tämä oli ensimmäinen show'mme. Oli ihana saada kisan jälkeen muutamalta tuomarilta kehuja kypsästä pennusta, rohkeasta pennusta ja hyvin rauhallisesta pennusta. Päänuppi on siis kohdallaan neitokaisella, mikä on taas yksi ihana sulka jalostustulevaisuutta ajatellen. (Mukavaa merlepoikaa tai trikkipoikaa siis metsästämään...)

We went to practice show behavior with Mona to Kaakkuri match show on Vappu. We had previously been practicing being on the table, but not the running around so much. There we were in the right place to practice the movement in the ring. With Mona we showed ourselves to number one in small blue ring and finally in Best In Show ring we were 8th. It was really nice, because this was the first time in a show for us. After the show It was wonderful to get praises from some of the judges: what a mature puppy, what a brave girl and what a peaceful puppy. Her head is in a right place, which is another lovely feather to our hat of breeding plans. (We are hunting a nice merle boy or tricolor boy...)

Muuta elämää - The other side

Pohjois-Suomen Shelttien puheenjohtajana toimiminen on alkanut hiljalleen luonnistua. Hallituksemme on ihanan ahkeria tyyppejä täynnä, joten uskon, että syksyllä meillä saadaan monta sulkaa hattuumme tapahtumien myötä. Lisäksi nuorkauppakamaritoiminnassa olemme myös hieman kehittyneet ja huomanneet, mitä haluamme saavuttaa. Petri mm. lähti tavoittelemaan henkilökohtaista kunniaa ja saavutti sen - Sanan Säilä 2015 -voitto ei ole pieni juttu. Edessä kesäkuussa reissu Istanbuliin ja EM-voitto on melkein taskussa. Petrin valmistautumista voit seurata Petri Eklundin tie JCI:n puhekilpailussa -blogissa.

Working as a chairman in Northern Finland Sheltie Club has begun to slowly work out. Our board is full of wonderfully hard-working people, so I think that in the fall we have obtained many feathers in our cap with all those events we are going to have. In addition, working in the Junior Chamber activities, has also given a bit of things and we have found out what we want to achieve. Petri wanted to pursue personal glory and reached it - He is the winner of national speech competition Sanan Säilä 2015. The win was not an easy job, but my man nailed it! In the beginning of June he has a trip to Istanbul to compete in European Championship - I can smell the victory already. You can follow Petri by reading his blog about it. It is in Finnish, but hopefully he will translate it in English too.

Kävimme koko poppoolla taas perinteeksi jo muodostuneella Posion reissulla huhtikuussa. Oli ihana lähteä viettämään muutama päivä hiljaisuudessa. Kiitos taas Eerolle, että hän jaksaa meidän kanssa lähteä sinne. Reissu toi taas mielenrauhaa ja ajatukset saivat levätä. Koirat saivat juosta rauhassa maailmassa, missä ei ollut rajoja. Lisäksi järvi oli jäässä, joten jäällä oli ihana laukata sydämensä kyllyydestä. Varsinkin Mona ja Gala nauttivat ravaamisesta. Oli ihana seurata tyttöjen menoa.

We had our traditional weekend at Posio in April. It was wonderful to go to spend a few days in silence. Thank you again to Eero that he wants to take us with him there always. The trip brought back the peace in our minds and all the stress was taken away. The dogs were allowed to run free in a world where there was no boundaries. In addition, the lake was covered with ice, so ice was wonderful place to gallop with their heart's content. Especially Mona and Gala enjoyed running a round and chase each other. It was wonderful to follow the girls.

Kirjoitin muutama vuosi sitten seuraavat sanat: "Ihminen kokee harvoin irtautumisen tunteita nyky-yhteiskunnassa. I wrote a few years ago the following words: "One rarely experiences the feelings of breaking free in the modern society. Somehow all the hurry and everyday pace snatch you with in to the mouse wheel, which you can only slow down and stop by pushing your feet or hands out and hope that nothing breaks in the process. People around you will look at you with horrified faces, but you are ultimately the only one who will take the step out of the wheel, even though you had around you lots of back patters. When you look back, you will see that wheel soon speeds up and no one came out but you. My destiny was not the same when I stepped out of the mouse wheel, because with me stepped out my heart, my peace and my refuge - Petri". What the future holds, we get to decide and experience it together. Words have not gotten older, even though time has elapsed.

Syksy on aktiivista aikaa / Best Ways to Have The Perfect Autumn Activities

Syksy tosiaan on vilahtanut nopeasti. Uuden työpaikan myötä aika on mennyt niissä merkeissä, mutta nyt tuntuu, että voin hetkeksi istua, huokaista sekä kirjoittaa, mitä maailmassamme ja kennelissämme on tapahtunut. Ehkä isoimpia asioita ovat Petri ja Viivin agilityhuuma ja pentujen kehittyminen kohti aikuisuutta. Lisäksi Lexie on käynyt osteopaatilla, ja siten olo ja olemus ovat parantuneet huimasti. Niitä tarkemmin alla.

Autumn has been a very busy time. The new job has taken a lot of time, but now I feel that I can sit down for a moment, sigh and write what has happened in our world and in our kennel. Perhaps the biggest news are Petri, Viivi and agility and puppies development towards adulthood. In addition, Lexie has been going to an osteopath, and thus she and her essence have improved dramatically. More below.

Alfa-pentue - 11 kuukautta lähenee kovaa vauhtia!

Erika ja Himppu paimentamassa

Melkein jokainen pentueemme pentu on aloittanut agilityn harrastamisen. JEEEE!!! Vind isän jalanjäljillä mennään siis. Velho on käynyt Piian kanssa ahkerasti treeneissä Raumalla. Himppu on aloittanut Erikan kanssa treenaamisen alkeis- ja pentukursseilla, ja nyt talveksi varmistui paikka OKK:lta mölliryhmään! Lisäksi Himppu eli kirppumme on aloittanut paimentamisen treenauksen. Osasi ensimmäisellä kerralla jo ohjata lampaat ulos ja sisään. Sai kuulemma paljon kehuja ohjaajalta. HUIPPUA! Alfa-pentueemme voi siis nimensä mukaisesti olla Alfa Romeo -pentue - "Beauty is not enough. Power for your control."

Almost every puppy from this litter has started agility as a hobby. JEEEE!!! They are on the footsteps of their Father - Vind. Velho has been doing agility training with his owner Piia at Rauma. Himppu has started elementary and puppy classes with Erika, and now it was confirmed that they got a training place from OKK! In addition, Himppu ie our little monster has started herding classes. Already on their first time Himppu was able to herd the sheep out and in the pen. Himppu received a lot of praises from the instructors. AMAZING! Alfa-litter is, therefore, named again as Alfa Romeos - "Beauty is not enough. Power for your control."

Niin Lexie kuin Viivikin saivat myös aksapaikkansa OKK:lta. Meitä odotteleekin mahtava talvikausi, koska pääsemme treenaamaan uudessa hienossa OKK:n hallissa hiekkatekonurmella. Petri ja Viivi pääsivät treenaamaan 2 - 3 lk koirakoille tarkoitettuun ryhmään, joka sopii loistavasti tuolla parivaljakolle. Ryhmän ohjaajina toimivat Anna-Maria Niemelä ja Henna Mikkonen. Me Lexien kanssa treenaamme samaan aikaan 1 - 2 lk koirien ryhmässä, jota ohjaa Tuulikki Rajala.

Our bigger girls Lexie and Viivi also received a training place from OKK. We're waiting for a great winter training season, as we get to rehearse in a nice new OKK's hall with artificial grass. Petri and Viivi are going to be training in group, which is for 2nd to 3rd class dogs, which is ideal to that duo. The group is instructed by Anna-Maria Niemelä and Henna Mikkonen. With Lexie we are training at the same time in a group, which is for 1st to 2nd class dogs, and our group is instructed by Tuulikki Rajala.

Petri ja Viivi - Agility

Vuosi sitten esittelimme Lindan kanssa Petrille agilityn ihmeellisen maailman Piteåssa agilityleirillä. Siellä agilitykärpänen puraisi Petriä toden teolla, ja mies innostui hommasta. Kun näin, miten hyvin Petri ja Viivi tulivat toimeen keskenään radalla, päätin antaa Viivin Petrille harjoituskaveriksi.

A year ago, Linda and I introduced the wonderful world of agility to Petri at Piteå agility camp. There he was bitten by the agility bug. When I saw how well the Petri and Viivi got along with each other on the track, I decided to give Viivi to Petri as a training buddy.

Nyt kesän he ovat treenanneet aktiivisesta agilityä, ja Petri ja Viivi ovat kehittyneet loistavasti. Meno on upeaa katsottavaa ja upeaa yhteispeliä. Petri onkin ollut kesällä tuttu kasvo epävirallisissa agilitykisoissa ja ovat he tehneet muutaman lähdön virallisissakin kisoissa. Tosin pieni virhe on puhtaan radan aina 5 rikkonut. They have trained actively the whole summer now, and Petri and Viivi have developed a lot. Flow is stunning and they have fantastic teamwork. Petri has been a familiar face in all the unofficial agility competitions this summer, and they have done a few outputs in official competitions. However, a small error has always ruined the clean zero track. When we train those away, the couple could well soar this season to 3rd class, because the pace is so good. We keep our fingers crossed!

Lexie ja Henna - Agility

Lexie on tosiaan ollut vielä aika heikossa kunnossa johtuen lihomisesta ja synnytyskomplikaatioista. Vuoden olemme neitiä kuntouttaneet nyt. Viimeisimpänä hoitona ovat olleet osteopaatin hoitokerrat Uudessa Olossa. Osteopaatti löysikin Lexieltä ison kasan paikkoja, jotka aiheuttivat olemisessa ongelmia. Synnytyksen jättämät traumat kummittelivat vieläkin siis kehossa. Lihashuolto Teemulta oli korjannut kyllä lihaspuolen, mutta sitten tuo toinen alue eli hermot vaativat vielä huoltoa. Nyt neito onkin hieman reipastunut ja lenkilläkin Lexie saa ns. hepuleita normaaliin tapaan. Ehkä me saamme tuosta terveen tytön.

Lexie has indeed been in poor condition due to the weight gain and birth complications. This year, we have rehabilitated her a lot. Most recent treatment has been the osteopathic treatment at Uusi Olo. Osteopath found a big pile of places that caused the problems in her wellness. Giving birth related traumas haunted still her body. Muscle maintenance from Teemu repaired the muscular side, but then the another area - the nerves - still required maintenance. Now, our girl is a little bit happier and on walks Lexie gets those play speedings the normal way. Maybe we'll get a healthy girl out of her after all. 

Toisaalta olemme Lexien kanssa olleet molemmat kipeinä melkein koko kesän. Aluksihan minulla oli tuo sappirakkoleikkaus. Nyt loppukesästä minulla napsahti oikean käden olkapää pois paikoiltaan, joka piti käydä sairaalassa asti laittamassa paikoilleen. Joten toipuessa on aika mennyt meillä Lexien kanssa. Olemme maanneet sohvalla kahdestaan paljon. Lexie on maannut mahani päällä ja minä olen lukenut kirjaa. Mikäs siinä siis ollessa.

On the other hand, both Lexie and I have been acutely sick almost the whole summer. At first I had that gall bladder surgery. Now at the end of the summer, I snapped my right shoulder out of place, which had to be put in place at the hospital. So, we have been recovering with Lexie. We have lain on the couch. Lexie has been lying on my stomach, while I read the book. Things could be worse.

Kesällä tosin voitimme erään kammomme - pussin! Lexiehän ei ole aikaisemmin sitä mennyt, mutta nyt neiti vilahtaa sen vauhdikkaasti lävitse. Lisäksi päätimme kokeilla Lexien kanssa käskytöntä ohjaamista eli koira seuraa kehoani ja sen antamia vinkkejä suunnasta. Lexien kanssa se toimii, ja vauhti kasvaa suunnattomasti siitä, mitä se on aikaisemmin ollut. Lexiehän on ollut kova räksyttämään kentällä, mutta käskyttömässä ohjauksessa räksyily lähtee kokonaan melkein pois. Ei tarvitse vaatia käskyä, vaan ohjaajan keho näyttää suunnan. Se toimii siis meillä.

In the summer, however, Lexie won one of her fears - the bag! Lexie has not previously gone in, but now our little one flashes rapidly through it. In addition, we decided to try wordless guidance with Lexie - the dog follows my body movements and get tips of the right direction that way. With Lexie it works, and the speed has grown tremendously from what it previously was. Lexie has been barking a lot on the field, but now it has almost completely stopped. There is no need to ask (read: bark) the way anymore, my body shows the direction.

On taas mennyt hetki viime kirjoittamisesta. Tarkoituksena oli, että joka kuukausi saisin ainakin yhden tarinan kirjoitettua tänne, mutta mönkään meni. Kesäkuu oli kylmä ja hyinen kuukausi, jolloin ei juuri mitään saanut aikaiseksi. Oli muutama epävirallinen agilitykisa, missä Petri kävi taas kokeilemassa. Lisäksi olemme treenanneet taas agilityä Petri Viivin ja minä Lexien kanssa. Pennut ovat kasvaneet nätisti, koko vaihtelee noin 33 cm tienoilla +/- 0,5 cm eli jäävät hieman pieniksi. Painoa on noin 6 kg.

It's been a while since last writing. I had an idea that every month I'd get at least one story written here, but it went sour. June was so cold and terrible month, when almost nothing got done. There were a few unofficial agility competitions, where Petri went to try it out. In addition, we have started to do agility again - Petri with Viivi and I with Lexie. The puppies are growing nicely, ranging in size from about 33 cm with +/- 0,5 cm, which means that they are going to be a bit small shelties. Their weighs range around 6 kg. 

Alfa-pentue - Alfa-litter

Saimme viime viikolla kotiimme täydennyksen eli Himppu tuli hoitoon kahdeksi viikoksi omistajan lomamatkan ajaksi. Tarjouduin hoitopaikaksi sillä silmällä, että pääsisin vähän näkemään, millainen tohottaja Himppu oikeasti on. Himpulla on lisäksi juoksut, joten olisi mukava seurata, miten se hoitaa ja toimii. Millainen Himppu sitten on? Neidin haukku on mitä omalaatuisin - kimeä ja kova yhtä aikaa. Silloin, kun Himppu äännähtää, tarkoittaa se todellakin jotain. Onneksi sitä ei satu usein. Erikan varoituksista huolimatta, emme ole vielä saaneet kokea aamuserenadia. Luonteeltaan neiti on hyvin leikkisä ja tekisi sitä koko ajan kavereidensa kanssa eli Galan ja Arwenin kanssa. Ruokakin syödään hyvin, koska ympärillä on neljä nälkäistä suuta, joille maistuisi mielellään Himpunkin ruoka. Yhteiselo toisten kanssa on Himpulla mennyt siis todella hyvin. Neiti on otettu laumaan jäseneksi.

Our dog count went up last week when Himppu came to stay with us because of the owners two week vacation. I offered to be her caretaker, because I wanted to see what kind of sheltie Himppu really is. Himppu also has her runs, so it would be nice to see how she manages herself and operates while on them. What kind of sheltie Himppu is then? Her bark is the most peculiar one - a high-pitched and hard at the same time. When Himppu lets out a cry, she really means something. Fortunately, it does not happen so often. Despite Erikas warnings, we have not had the pleasure to experience it in the mornings. By nature, she is very playful and would do it all the time with her friends Gala and Arwen. She eats well, even though Erika said otherwise. This could be caused by those four hungry mouths around her, which would happily eat her food too. Co-existence with others, therefore, has gone really well. She has been taken in as a member of the herd. 

Agility

Hankin Petrille nimipäivälahkasi agilitylisenssin, joten nyt odottelemme ensimmäisiä kisoja, joihin Petri uskaltaisi osallistua. (!!!) Hieman meinaa jännittää, mutta kyllä se siitä. Kävimme OKK:n järjestämissä epävirallisissa agilitykisoissa viime viikolla. Petri halusi treenata kisaamista, joten sinne siis suuntasimme. Otin samalla Arwenin mukaan tutustumaan tähän koiramaailmaan. Ihaninta oli huomata, että Arwen on todella ihmisläheinen ja on heti huomiota osoittavan tyypin kainalossa, jos vain mahdollisuus annetaan. Lisäksi Arwen seurasi hyvin kiinnostuneena agilityä kentän laidalta, tassut aitapalkin päällä. Tuleva agilitytyttö siis hänkin eli se on veressä. Petri kävi kisaamassa niin mölliradan kuin sitten kilpailevien. Möllissä tuli tehtyä pieni aloittelijoiden mokia, mutta muuten ohjaaminen meni ihan hyvin. Kisaavien radalla Petri halusi tehdä nollatuloksen, joten siinä tarvittiin kolme lähtöä, että näin kävi. Onneksi uusintalähdöt olivat sallittuja, joiden paras jäi sitten voimaan. Nollatuloksella Petri ja Viivi kipusivat sitten lopuksi kisan 2. JEE!

I bought Petri an agility license as a name day gift, so now we are waiting the first race, in which Petri would dare to attend. (!!!) He is a bit nervous, but he will do it. We went to OKK's organized informal agility competition last week. Petri wanted to try out competing, so there we headed. I took Arwen with me so she could see this new dog world. Most wonderful thing was that Arwen likes attention a lot and she goes straight to there were she gets it. Furthermore, Arwen followed with great interest every agilitytrack from the side of the field, paws on the fence beam. Future agility girl, therefore, she has it in her blood. Petri went and competed in beginners track and in the competers track. On beginners he did a few little mistakes in guiding, but otherwise the steering went pretty well. From competers track Petri wanted to have a zero result, so it needed three outputs, that this was the case. Fortunately, re-departures were allowed, and the best result was counted in. With that zero result Petri and Viivi climbed to second of the mediums. JEE! 

Muuta

Täytyy nyt kirjoittaa tännekin tästä pienestä epäonnesta, mikä sattui kohdalleni. Onneksi vaiva on nyt leikattu ja entistä ehommaksi sitä kai tästä tulee pienen levon kautta. Mahakivut olivat kovat tässä alkuviikosta ja menin sitten lääkärille tutkittavaksi. Tuloksena sappirakon tulehdus ja iso sappikivi siellä rakossa. Heti leikkaukseen ja rakon poistoon. Nyt tuloksena on tähystysleikkauksen jäljiltä pienet reiät vatsan seudulla, joista navan ja ylävatsan reiät ovat suurimmat. Sappirakossa oli majaillut sellainen halkaisijaltaan 3 cm kokoinen pieni sappikivi. Se, miten se sinne on kasvanut noin isoksi huomaamatta, on mysteeri. Nyt se on kuitenkin sieltä pois ja uusi alku edessä.

Now I have to write here as well of this small misfortune, which happened to me. Fortunately, the discomfort is now cut out, and I can start to heal to be a better. Early this week I got really hard stomach pains and then I went to the doctor for examination. As a result I got an inflammation of the gallbladder, and a large gallstone there in the gallbladder. Immediately I was ordered to surgery, and gallbladder removal. Now I have 3 small and 2 bigger endoscopic holes in the abdominal region. The gallbladder was keeping in a gallstone of which was 3 cm of diameter. The reason or why, how it got there and how it was so big, is a mystery. Now, however, it is not there anymore, and I can have a new beginning.

Elämänviisauksia / Facts About Happy Life

Pentueemme täytti viimein 6 kk 2.5. Jotenkin sitä ei koskaan uskonut näiden saavuttavan ko. ikää, mutta ihme tapahtui. Kiitos edelleen suuresti Tuijalle, joka auttoi meitä silloin, kun hätä oli suurin. Nämä 6 kk ovat olleet todellakin ihmettelyn aikaa. On ollut upeaa seurata näiden pienokaisten kasvua, tutustumista maailmaan, erilaisiin ihmisiin ja kaikkeen ympärillään. Toisaalta tämä on ollut myös hyvin raskasta aikaa eli tulevaisuudessa ei ole kuin aina yksi pentu kotona kasvamassa. Ei koskaan enää kahta samaan aikaan. Syynä on esimerkiksi sisäsiisteyskasvatus, käytöstavat, ruokailut ja kaikki muu mukava - niihin on käytettävä tuplasti enemmän aikaa. Jos yksi pentu oppii sisäsiistiksi 3 kk ikään mennessä, toivottavasti nämä olisivat sisäsiistejä 7 kk ikään mennessä...

On 2nd of May our Alfa litter had its 6 month birthday. Somehow, I never believed back then that this lot will reach this age, but a miracle happened. I truly thank Tuija again, who helped us when we needed the help most. These six months have been really amazing time. It has been wonderful to watch these little ones growth, exploring the world and all kinds of things and people around them. On the other hand, it has also been a very difficult time. In the future we will not take two puppies at home at the same time. Never again two at the same time. The reasons are, for example, indoor toilet training, manners, meals, and all the other nice things related - they use twice as much time in all of those. If one puppy can learn house-traided in 3 months, hopefully these two would be house-trained by the age of 7 months...

Pentusemme - Arwen Undomiel ja Galadriel

Tyttösemme, Arwen ja Gala, ovat nyt n. 33 cm korkeita ja painavat 6 kiloa kappale. Eli jäämme hieman alamittaisiksi. Kaikki tosin sanovat, että eipä sitä tiedä, mutta semmoista se on. Alkutaipaleen kamppailu verotti kuitenkin kasvua, vaikka aluksi ei näyttänytkään siltä.

The girls, Arwen and Gala, are now about 33 cm high and weigh 6 kg each. So, they will be a little undersized. Everyone says that we do not know it yet, but this is the reality liked we it or not. Because we had those struggles at start, it must have taken a toll on growth, even if at first it did not seem that way.

Millainen pentu Gala on? - What kind of puppy is the Gala?

Jos Galaa pitäisi kuvata jollakin tavalla, olisi Gala sellainen ilopilleri. Gala on aina iloinen, aina lähdössä mukaan kaikkeen ja hyvin hyvin aktiivinen. Gala kiusailee koko sakkia siten, että mustat ovat varmasti kimpussa viimeistään metsässä ja antavat neidille kunnolla köniin. Gala tosin pitkillä jaloillaan pääsee kiihdyttämään itsensä kauheaan vauhtiin, joten kiinniottajien tulee tosissaan ajattaa neitiä. Ainoastaan Viivi pääsee rinnalle, mutta toisten pitää tarttua häntään kiinni, koska siihen Lexie ja Arwen korkeintaan yltävät ajattaessaan Galaa. Gala on minun oma mussukka, jonka kanssa lähdemme kokeilemaan agilityä, kun ikä antaa periksi. Vauhti on Galan toinen nimi, joten katsotaan, miten onnistumme siinä. Sen vauhdin eli tuulen Gala on ilmeisesti perinyt isältään Vindiltä.

If I had to describe Gala in some way, I would say that she is a happy pill. Gala is always happy, she is always ready for everything and she is very very active dog. Gala teases the whole gang all the time. So our blacks gang up and give Gala a proper fight back when we go to forest to run free. Gala however with her long legs can accelerate in such a pace, that the catchers must seriously run. Only Viivi is able to get alongside her, but others catch her only by biting her tail. Gala is my own little pumpkin, with whom I will go and try to do agility when the time is right. The speed is Gala's middle name, so we'll see how we can use it. The speed of the wind Gala has apparently inherited from her father Vind.

Keholtaan Gala on todella upea ja sopusuhtainen. Kaula on upean pitkä, jota korostaa valkoinen kaulus. Kulmaukset ovat hyvät, jotka antavat Galan keholle sen ryhdin ja vauhdin, jota koira tarvitsee. Kun osat ovat hyvin paikoillaan, vauhtia ja kestävyyttä löytyy. Naama on kaunis tan-merkkeineen ja laikkuineen. Galas body is a truly stunning and well proportioned. The neck has a great length of which a white collar supports. She has good angulations, which provide the great posture and the speed what a dog needs. When these parts are in right place, pace and endurance can be found. Her face is a beautiful with those tan signs and spots. Merle color could be bluer, but the coat has a great color, it is smoothly mottled, like a good merle should be. I am thinking of taking her to a few shows that we know what kind of girl she really is.

Millainen pentu Arwen on? - What kind of puppy is Arwen?

Jos Gala oli vauhtityttö, Arwen on haaveilija. Arwen on ottanut paljon emostaan eli on hyvin omapäinen, omistava ja nousemassa hiljalleen tämän lauman valtiaksi Lexien jälkeen. Arwenilla on sitä rohkeutta haastaa isommat, joten aina, kun on mahdollisuus, sen se neiti tekee. Arwen on myös hyppijä ja loikkija, jonka ei välttämättä tarvitse koskea maahan, kun hän vaihtaa paikkaa olohuoneessa. Sama hyppiä sohvalta nojatuoliin ja takaisin. Eli jos Gala on juoksukuningatar, Arwen on hyppykuningatar. Tämäkin on varmaan peritty isäktä Vindiltä.

If Gala is a girl with a speed, Arwen is a dreamer. Arwen has taken a lot from her mother - she is a very headstrong, owning and rising slowly higher and higher in this flock, but not over Lexie. Arwen has the courage to challenge the bigger ones, so every time she has a chance to do so, she will not miss it. Arwen is also a leaper and a jumper, she does not have to necessarily touch the ground when she changes her place in the living room. She can jump on the couch and to the chair and back. So, if Gala is the Queen of running, Arwen is the Queen of jumping. Again, this is probably inherited from her dad Vind.

Keholtaan Arwen jenkkimäisen tanakka eli turkki on todella tuuhea ja runsas. Naamassa näkyy jenkkimäinen ilme eli ei niin kaunis ja siro kuin Galan pää. Tan-merkit antavat ilmeelle paljon ja neiti on todella kaunis. Kaula saisi olla pidempi, mutta muuten keho on kiva kokonaisuus - sopusuhtainen. Kulmaukset voisivat olla myös hieman paremmat, koska niiden takia kävely on hieman sellaista tepsuttelua. Kaunis neiti on kuitenkin ja hänetkin olisi tarkoitus viedä näyttelyyn tutkittavaksi, että tiedämme, mitä neidistä sanotaan.

Arwen's body is a more american than european. Her coat is really thick and rich. On her face there is a bit of an american look, so the face ain't as beautiful and graceful as the Gala's head. Tan markings give a lot to the expression and she is really pretty. The neck could be longer, but otherwise the body is a nice package - a well-proportioned. Angles could also be slightly better, because they reflect in walking. She is a beautiful lady however, and she too I will take to a few shows, that we know what they say of her really.

Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:llä hommissa

Koska Petristä tuli nyt Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n puheenjohtaja, tarkoittaa se erilaisia vastuita tuoda yhdistys esille ja olla mukana toiminnassa.

Since Petri became the chairman of the Northern Finland Sheltie's Association, it means a different kind of responsibilities to bring the association known and be a part of the action.

Oulun Koiramessuilla 3. - 4.5. - Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry:n hallitus oli päättänyt osallistua Oulun Koiramessuille, jotka järjetettiin Haukiputaalla. Petri ja minä olimme Smartteamsin porukan kanssa sitä pistämässä pystyyn. Siellä seisoskelimmekin viikonlopun ja teimme ihmisille tutuksi shelttiä. Mukanamme olivat meidän kaksi pientä palleroamme ja Lexie. Moni ajatteli sheltin nähdessään, että ne ovat sellaisia haukkukoneita. Nähdessään Galan ja Arwenin moni ihmetteli, miten nämä koirat voivat olla näin rauhallisesti täällä kaiken hälyn keskellä. Meiltä kysyttiin mm. seuraavia asioita rodustamme: ”Haukkuuko sheltti paljon?” ”Miten sheltti tulee toimeen lasten kanssa?” ”Ai, eikö sheltti kasvakaan tuota isommaksi?” ”Pitääkö sheltin kanssa harrastaa koko ajan jotakin?” ”Paljonko sheltti maksaa?” ”Ovatko nuo myytävänä?” Oli ihana rikkoa myyttejä, ja toisaalta oli antoisaa nähdä ihmisten reaktiot, kun he näkivät kasvattimme ständillämme. Koiramessut olivat antoisa kokemus. Oli ihana tutustua erilaisiin ihmisiin, vastailla heidän kysymyksiinsä ja tiedusteluihinsa. Lisäksi pääsimme Rantapohjaan, koska paikalle sattui eräs tuttu reportteri juuri oikeaan aikaan.

Oulu Dog Fair 3. - 4.5. - Northern Finland Shelties Association's Board decided to participate in Oulu Dog Fair, which was held at Haukipudas. Petri and I were there with Smartteams people to arrange it. We stood there the whole weekend and we made shelties familiar to the people. With us were our two little ones and Lexie. Many thought when seeing a sheltie that they are some kind of barking machines. After seeing Gala and Arwen many wondered how these dogs can be so calm here in the middle of all the noise. We were asked a lot of questions, and here are few of them: "Does sheltie bark much?" "How sheltie gets along with the kids?" "Oh, sheltie doesn't grow any bigger than that?" "Do you have to do things with sheltie all the time?" "How much does a sheltie cost?" "Are those for sale?" It was wonderful to break the myths, and on the other hand it was rewarding to see people's reactions when they saw our dogs in our stand. Dogs fair was a rewarding experience. It was wonderful to get to know different kind of people, to answer their questions and requests for information. In addition, we were able to get in a local paper, because we had a visit from a well-known reporter at the right time.

Äitienpäivän match show 11.5. - Pohjois-Suomen Sheltit ry järjesti perinteisesti mätsärit äitienpäivänä. Tänä vuonna ne järjestettiin Muskettikoiran pihassa Maikkulassa. Vaikka päivä oli hieman kolea, tuli paikalle kuitenkin ihan mukavasti ihmisiä ja saimme pidettyä leikkinäyttelyn mukavissa merkeissä. Meillä oli niin arpamyyntiä, makkaroita ja lettuja, joten sivutoimintaa oli myös näyttelykehien lisäksi. Päivä oli mukavan rento ja leppoisa, koska sitä tekemässä olivat mukavat tyypit. Tästä oli kiva kerätä kokemusta, koska olisimme Peten kanssa kesäkuun alussa menossa mätsäreihin tuomareiksi.

Mother's Day match show 11.5. - Northern Finland Shelties Association organized the traditional match show on Mother's Day. This year it was held in the yard of Muskettikoira at Maikkula. Although the day was a bit chilly, a lot of people came there and we were able to arrange a nice unofficial exhibition. We had a great group doing it there, so it was really fun to do everything. It was nice to get this experience, because Pete and I are going to be judges in a match show in the beginning of June.

Agilityä

Teimme nyt keväällä raskaita päätöksiä perheessämme. Petri päätti aloittaa agilityn ja mietimme koiraa, jonka kanssa Petri sitä harrastaisi. Aluksi ajattelin antaa Petrille Lexien, mutta Viivin reaktion nähtyäni teimme kuitenkin niin, että Lexie olisi minulla ja Viivi menisi Petrille. Kävimme nimittäin talvella treenaamassa kerran, ja Viivi oli niin Petrin perään radalla, että päätin luovuttaa. Lexiellä ja minulla on haasteita voitettavana, joten me jatkaisimme treenaamista yhdessä, kun taas edistynyt ja kisavalmis Viivi antaisi paljon Petrille helpotusta, kun mies harjoittelee tekniikoita ohjaamisessa.

We made some difficult decisions in the spring. Petri decided to begin agility and we thought about which dog should he take. At first, I thought of giving Lexie to Petri, but after seeing Viivi's reaction when she saw what he did with Lexie, I decided to give Viivi to Petri and I will train with Lexie. We went training once in the winter and Viivi was so after Petri on the track, so I decided to give her up. Lexie and I have challenges to overcome, so we should continue our training, while Viivi (advanced and ready to race) would give a lot of help to Petri, when he is practicing the techniques in controlling a dog on a track.

Haimme kesätreenipaikat OKK:lta koirillemme ja saimmekin ne samasta ryhmästä. JEE! Petri treenaa siis Viivin kanssa ja minä Lexien kanssa. Treenipäivämme on keskiviikkoiltaisin. Olemme myös suunnittelemassa muutamaa omatoimitreenikertaa viikkoon lisää, että saamme tuon Petrin oppimaan tekniikan ja ohjaamaan Viiviä paremmin. Minä pääsen samalla harjoittelemaan agilityohjaajan pestiä, kun koulutan Petriä. HIH! Tavoitteeksi otamme, että pääsisimme molemmat kisaamaan kesän loppuun mennessä eli viimeistään elokuussa.

We both applied for a summer training place's from OKK and we got them from the same group. JEE! Petri, therefore, is training with Viivi and I with Lexie. Our training is on Wednesday evenings. We are also planning to go and train on our own, so that we can train Petri to guide Viivi better. I get a chance to be a agility instructor for Petri. HIH! We are going to train so, that we could both be competing in the end of summer at the latest or by the end of August.

Petri kävikin Viivin kanssa harjoittelemassa kisaamista muutaman radan epävirallisissa agilitykilpailuissa Oulunsalossa 13.5. Kävimme myös Lexien kanssa tekemässä supermölliradan, missä oli vain hyppyjä ja putkia. Opin taas sen, että Viivihän irtosi todella hyvin, mutta Lexie kaipaa taas tarkempaa ohjausta. Ohjausvirheitä siis tuli sillä radalla. Se ei kuitenkaan haitannut, koska kävimme Lexien kanssa kisaamassa saman tapahtuman mätsäreissä ja olimme punaisten neljäs omassa luokassamme. Saimme hieman leluja ja herkkuja lahjaksi - molemmat. Agilitypuolella Petri ja Viivi onnistuivat kisoissaan todella hienosti: supermölliradalla pari oli 2. ja aloittelijoiden radalla 3. Tässä pitääkin vielä mainostaa, että koirat, jotka olivat heidän edellä molemmilla radoilla, kilpailevat oikeasti 3. luokassa, joten aika hyvin meidän parivaljakolta. Petri olikin kisailujen jälkeen todella innoissaan ja haluaa lisää kilpailla. Tähän annamme todellakin mahdollisuuden. Katsotaan, kisaavatko he jo kesän lopulla 2. luokassa tai jopa 3. luokassa. Olisihan se mahtavaa!

Petri wanted to try agility with Viivi, so they went to an unofficial agility competition at Oulunsalo on 13th of May. I wanted to try it too, so I did super easy track with Lexie, which had just jumps and pipes. I learned once again that Viivi is race-ready and Lexie needs a lot more guidance. I did some errors on the track. It didn't matter, because our main target was to train showing with Lexie in the same event. There was a match show and we got the red and we were fourth in our class. We got some toys and snacks - both. On agility track Petri and Viivi did really well: On super easy track they were 2nd and on a beginner's course they were 3rd. I shouldn't advertise, but the other dogs who were ahead of Petri and Viivi are competing for real in 3rd class, so Petri and Viivi did pretty well. After the race Petri was really excited about it and wants to compete more and more. To it, we will give him a real possibility. Let's see, will they compete near the end of summer in 2nd class or even in 3rd class. It would be soooooo great!

Näyttelyitä - Shows

Aloitimme tälle vuodelle näyttelykiertueemme Oulun KV:sta. Tuomarina näyttelyissä oli Monica Blaha Itävallasta. Näyttelyyn oli ilmoittautunut 77 shelttiä, joten iso kasa koiria oli paikalla. Ilma oli aivan upea ja aurinkoinen. Lexie oli myös todella hyvässä turkissa ja tuulella, joten olin oikeastaan innoissani näyttelystä. Valitettavasti emme saaneet sitä, mitä tulimme hakemaan eli ERInomaista, vaan ainoastaan Erittäin Hyvän. Siitä on kuitenkin hyvä lähteä liikkeelle mammaloman jälkeen. We started this year exhibition's from Oulu International dog show on 18th of May. The judge was Monica Blaha from Austria. There were 77 shelties, so there were a big pile of dogs on the spot again. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and sunny. Lexie had also a very good coat and mood, so I was really excited about the show. Unfortunately, we did not get what we came for (excellent), just only very good. It is, however, a good place to begin after the maternity leave. You can read the show review from Lexie's page.

Olimme myös järkkäilemässä näyttelyä perjantaina ja lauantaina, koska Äimärautio oli ko. viikonlopun koiratapahtuman mekka. Perjantaina olimme OKK:n porukoiden kanssa tekemässä OKK:n ryhmänäyttelyä, ja lauantaina olimme mukana parkkipirkkoina opastamassa autoilijoita parkkipaikalla. Koska ilma oli mitä loistavin, porukka mitä hauskin, oli mukava työskennellä ne päivät ja hankkia niitä arvokkaita talkoopisteitä ensi talvea varten, koska ensi talvena OKK:lla olisi se himoittu halli viimeinkin - ei enää kupolia, vaan oikea halli. Lisäksi Petri haluaa nyt tehdä kaikkensa, että hän saa mahdollisimman paljon pisteitä tienattua, että treenaamaan pääsee kunnolla + ilmaiset lähdöt ovat kohteena myös. Ihana nähdä Petri niin innostuneena!

We were also putting up the show arena on Friday and on Saturday, because Äimärautio at Oulu was the dog event mecca on that weekend. On Friday, we were there as a stuff from OKK with others to build up OKK's group show for Saturday, and on Saturday we attended as parking assistants to guide all those visitors to the right parking lots. Because the air was sunny and warm and people with us were fun, it was nice to work on those days and get those valuable point for next winter, because next winter OKK would have that covered training hall for real - no longer the ugly dome, but a real hall. In addition, Petri now wants to do everything that he wants to get as many points he can have so he can train with Viivi + get those free starts to races. Lovely to see Petri so excited!
